Man’s 14K White Gold Wedding Band Lost in the Ocean – FOUND in the Sand at Litchfield Beach, SC

I got a call in the early evening on 8/19 from Kevin, who with his family, was visiting from Virginia. He told me he was body surfing and was knocked into his daughter by a wave when he felt his wedding ring slip off his finger. He said he pretty much gave it up as gone forever but then later saw how much difference there was between high and low tide and thought there might be hope. He found me through The Ring Finders site and asked if I could help try and find it.

He gave me the location and a description of the ring and after checking the tide tables, I saw that the low tide was at 5:33 am the next morning. So after doing the calculations of drive and search times I told Kevin I’d be there by 4:30 in the morning and that he didn’t have to meet me there that early and I’d call him when I found the ring. I set my alarm for 3 am, which is way to early and dark to start a search for a ring but it worked. I got there about 4:15 am and marched off the 75 yards Kevin said he paced from the dunes and added another 25 yards. Kevin also told me it was about 5-10 yards north of the stairs of the beach access and I made it 15 yards. Dragging my scoop behind me I made a nice little search grid that put me right in the middle of the mid-tide line. I’m thinking this is a good sign and there is hope in finding this ring.

After a north/south grid search and finding nothing, I started an east/west grid over the same area and on my first line I extended my search grid to the low tide line. Coming back on the 3rd line, I got the one and only signal I had and Bingo. The ring ended up being buried about 4-5 inches deep and about 105 yards from the dunes. Naturally my head lamp batteries were too weak to show enough light but luckily I had grabbed a flashlight out of the car before I hit the beach and what I had in the scoop matched his description. I texted him at 5:17 am saying “Good morning, does this look familiar?” and added a picture of his ring. Got a response in about a minute saying “Incredible”. I also told him I was going to go eat breakfast and I’d be back about 6:30, this would give him a chance to wake up. When I got back, him, his wife Kristi and 2 young daughters were walking towards the beach. We introduced ourselves and then proceeded out to the beach so he could see where I found it. He told me that since he was getting his ring back that it was such a great start to the day that he and the family would watch the sunrise. And what a sunrise it was!!

Total search time was 45 minutes.

Kevin did all the right things in ensuring he had the best opportunity in getting his ring back – he paced off the approximate location and had land marks to his lost ring.

Lost Tungsten Wedding Ring .. Found in aPark .. Irvine , CA.

Brandon was at the PGF softball platinum championships .. Illinois Sparks vs KC Sparks played at Barber Park, Irvine, CA. He helps out with the event. Just before the game started he rinsed of his hands with some ice water. Standing outside the announcer’s booth he shook his hands and his tungsten wedding band hit the cement walkway bouncing into the landscape shrubs which sloped 30 ft. downhill.
He asked me if I had a extension for my metal detector because he thought the ring may be far under the shrubbery. It’s hard to tell what conditions we are dealing with while talking on a cell phone. I grabbed a long extension pole and a rake throwing them in my truck. Possibly I could tape a pinpointer to long pole. I wouldn’t know till o get there.
The shrubs covered a whole area about 30ft. down a 45% slope. There was actually about 12 to 16 inches under the shrubs that allowed me to climb beneath with a pinpointer. After that we raked the leaves down the hill where I passed the detector over the leaves. Brandon was raking the last section of leaves to the bottom of the slope when I heard him yell out.. I found it!! As he raked the last pile of leaves the ring being heavier fell out on the clear ground, making it easy to spot. The ring had bounced or rolled more than 25 ft down the slope through partially leaf covered hard packed soil settling beneath the leaves. It was getting to be that time of the search where we only had one more place to try. Things were looking bleak. The whole search was about an hour and a half, but we didn’t give up. Sure glad I brought a rake. These searches get emotional especially when it gets close to giving up. Then that last minute surprise pushes all the built up pressure to a joy of the recovery!! I really don’t have the words to express this. Brandon did tell me that this would definitely put him in good standing with his wife..

Lost Platinum Wedding Band .. In Sand .. San Clemente Beach, CA.

I was checking my emails early Saturday morning when I found that Louis had sent me an email at 11:30pm Friday night. He had lost a ring at the beach and wanted to know if I could help him find it.
I immediately sent him a reply asking him to call me as soon as possible, it was going to be a big day for beach goers. I still had no idea of what beach or when and how it was lost. I waited for his call curious about which beach the lost ring could be. If I could get on the road before 9am., I could get to most the beaches before people started laying out their beach towels and umbrellas.
Just about 8am Louis called giving me the information I needed to get on the road. He had been at San Clemente beach pier surfing with some friends Friday about 7pm. He had wrapped his wedding band in his shirt leaving it on the beach with his towel.. When they came in his friend picked up the shirt and the ring disappeared in the sand. Louis verbally gave me the location so I took off to claim the search area.
Louis was across town on the west side of Los Angeles. He said he would be driving to meet me but it was maybe an hour and a half drive. I arrived San Clemente Pier and started gridding in front of the landmarks that Louis gave me. It wasn’t long before the ring showed up in my sand scoop. I took a picture of it sending it to Louis in a text message.
When Louis showed up he praised me telling me that I may have save his marriage. I know he was joking but I’m sure it makes life better not to have to tell your spouse that your ring is lost forever. It was another good day for all. “TheRingFinders Rule”.

Car Keys Found .. Mission Beach .. SanDiego, CA. .. Returned to Owner

Five members of TheRingFinders met up at Mission Beach in San Diego, CA. about the time the daily tourists were leaving the beach. Mark Ruby, Tony Eisenhower, with their wives, John Hughes, Curtis Cox and myself had dinner at a local restaurant. After eating we grabbed our detectors to enjoy a couple hours of detecting for pleasure.
We all took off in different directions planning to get meet up later. I tried a little water detecting, without much showing I moved to the dry dry sand. It was dark when I got a crazy signal from my CTX 3030 detector. I wasn’t hunting using a light, making it hard to see the set of keys on a lanyard. I usually turn keys into the lifeguards for their lost and found. The lifeguards were of duty,  so I put them in my pocket. A half hour later a police patrol car pulled up to me. They asked if I had found a set of car keys on a lanyard. Of course I gave them the keys, also taking advantage of the opportunity to tell them about TheRingFinders.com .
A little later a young lady with her friend walked up to me. She was the owner of the keys and wanted to thank me for finding her car keys. It had been a horrible two hours sense losing the keys. She didn’t have any spare keys. She was sincerely grateful. This was another opportunity to tell her and her friend about TheRingFinder.com website. It was a great get together with fellow members of TheRingFinders. As always it is awesome to be able to return something that was lost to its owner.

Wedding ring lost at Coronado Found!

Chase called me asking for help recovering his wedding ring lost in the surf at Coronado. He was out boogie boarding the day before when a wave stripped the ring off his finger in knee deep water. He saw someone on the beach with a detector and asked for help, but, the guy didn’t have a water machine, so, couldn’t help Chase. The guy (Chase didn’t get his name) recommended that Chase give me a call. Thank you, whoever you are! Low tide was just 1  1/2 hours away, so, we made arrangements to meet there ASAP. I met Chase and his wife on the beach at the location of the loss. Oh, did I mention that they had only been married a few days and that they were here on their honeymoon?! This ring just had to be found! I started a grid at ground zero and expanded out from there in all directions. After an hour and only 5 pennies to show, I started at one end of the probable search zone and headed back over the area I already searched doing a slightly different grid pattern. Another half hour into it, I got a real weak target sound in my Excalibur’s headphones on the slope in the wet sand. I figured it was just another penny but didn’t want to leave anything in doubt since I was searching in all metal. I dug down 14″ and the target was still in the hole! Using my Vibraprobe 580 pin pointer, I located the target right in the bottom and grabbed a handful of sand. Well, out popped his gold ring! It really surprised me that it had sunk that deep in less than 18 hours. A very happy couple to have that ring back in time for their flight back home today. A pleasure to meet you both, congratulations on your marriage, and thank you for the reward.

Heirloom Rings Lost at Malibu Beach, CA…Found.

After spending this morning having breakfast with fellow Ring Finder Stan Ross, in which we talked of the joy we are able to return to the people we help, I got a call from Sabrina later in the day. She had been at the beach with friends, and shook her hands, when she looked to find that two of her rings had come off. She and her friends searched for them, but were unable to find them. She then got on the internet, and was able to find The Ring Finders where she got my name.

I began to ask what had happened, where it happened, and how long ago did it happen. She said that she lost them in the dry sand, just a couple hours before she called. I told her to secure that area, and that I would be there as soon as possible, because I knew from what she explained to me, that the chances were good for finding her rings (it is so important to look for lost items as soon as possible to insure recovery). When I arrived Sabrina and her friends took me to the area of the loss, where I could see they had drawn a line in the shape of a box, about 10 x 10 feet. They felt real sure that the rings would be in that area. I asked her to show me exactly what she did, and when I saw her motion, I knew the rings would be right where she had been.

I put the headphones on, swung my coil a few times, and received a good sound. I scooped up the sand, and when I shook it out, there was a bottle cap, and one of her rings. I pulled out the bottle cap and said, “I don’t think this is what we were looking for”. She reached out and took it with a bit of disappointment, when reached back in the scoop to bring out her ring, and said, “but I think this is”. Her joy was incredible, I swung a few more times, and scooped up her other ring. It was great to see her so happy, as those rings mean a lot to her and her mother. Stan and I were so right this morning, to see the joy returned is a great reward.

Ring lost in the surf at Imperial Beach FOUND!

While scanning the local Craig’s List lost and found, I see an ad asking if anyone had found this particular ring in Imperial Beach, and if so, to contact Cat. I emailed back that if she would like someone to search for it, to give TheRingFinders.com a try. I offered my services and agreed to meet her father Bob down at the location early the next morning to take advantage of the low tide, as Cat lived in Las Vegas and had already returned home. It had been lost a few days earlier, at low tide, and in 4 feet of water. (figures huh?) I had my doubts that it could be found this particular morning because the tide was actually a bit higher than when she lost it, but, I wanted to see the search area and give it a try anyway. The sooner you search, the better the odds of a successful recovery. I figured I would probably have to plan a return trip at a huge minus tide to get out far enough to be in the search area but that wasn’t going to happen in the near future. This was going to be the lowest tide until the end of the month, so, it was now or wait.

Bob gave me directions to where he thought Cat lost the ring and I started a grid with my Excalibur just north of that point and worked my way south to where the rest of the family had camped in the dry sand. I made about six 100 foot passes from slope to chest deep in the surf when I got a strong signal at my deepest point before heading back toward shore. The 3-4 foot surf was roughing me up a bit and making it hard to scoop, but, after my 3rd try, the target was in my scoop. After sifting out the sand, A unique looking ring, that matched their description, was in my hand. I couldn’t believe it! I guess it was either lost in shallower water than she thought, or, the surf may have moved it in a bit before being buried. A call back to Bob, who lived close by, and he was there in a flash. We texted and called Cat with photos which made her day. Another satisfying recovery in less than ideal conditions. Great to meet you Bob and to talk to you Cat. May your ring have more stories to tell!

Wedding Ring Lost on Marina Del Rey Beach, CA…Found.

Bahram called me last night about 11:15 for his friend Vusal who had lost his wedding ring on the beach earlier in the day. Vusal is a physician from Azerbaijan who is here studying liver transplant medicine at UCLA. The two were at the beach about 3:00PM when Vusal had taken off his ring to enter the water. He put his ring in his bag, on top of his towel. They had originally been in front of the Lifeguard tower when they were asked to move because of the safety corridor the Lifeguard had created.

I told Bahram (he was helping translate for Vusal and myself) that I would like to try and find the ring as soon as possible and arranged to meet them in about 40 minutes. I arrived at about 12:00 AM and we walked out to the area to search. We searched the original area they were before the Lifeguard told them to move with no results. We then moved over to second area, and I began to grid the new area. It was then that Vusal told Bahram that he remembered the towel being in the bag until they arrived to this new area, when he removed it to lay out on the sand. That convinced me that we needed to focus on this area for the remainder of the search.

At about 12:45 a Police patrol came rolling upon us, and told us the beach was closed and we needed to leave. I explained what I was doing, and that Vusal had lost his ring, so they agreed to let us remain to continue the search. They went on to kick others off the beach while we searched. About 15 minutes later, a little outside of the area that Bahram and Vusal had shown me, I was able to find the ring, the ring Vusal had had for 8 years, something so important, he was willing to meet me on the beach in the early morning, after taking an UBER taxi from about 30 miles away; because of a phone call to a person he had never met. I am happy to have made his day, a day we will all three remember.

Kristy called me about 7pm from Venice Beach. She had lost he wedding ring believing it was in the sand at the beach. I was more than an hour and a half from her location. It would be dark before I got where she was. I asked for the details of how she lost it, before wasting her time waiting for me.
Kristy and her husband had spent the day with their two children at the beach. She put her two wedding rings in a pocket of her backpack. She believed that one of the rings may have fallen out sometime while getting things out of her backpack. She didn’t realize it was missing until she got back to the car. Returning to the lifeguard station near where they had been, the lifeguard on duty told her about TheRingFinders.
After I heard her story I told her there was a good possibility that the ring could be there. If she could wait to show me where they were sitting it could be an easy find.
Arriving at 8:30pm, we met in the Rose St.parking lot. Her husband had to stay with the kids who were sleeping in the car. Starting the search grid of about a 30 x 20 ft area. I drug my scoop down each side. I was looking for a small white gold wedding band. These can be tricky as they often sound like tin foil. The ring didn’t show up after covering that whole spot. Then Kristy told me that it could have fallen out at the nearby park. I told her to wait while I started to cross grid. I expanded 10ft outside the original box. The second pass north/south “Bam” a huge tinfoil sound. Wedding band in the scoop. I actually found it on the drag marker wher I had started my first pass. It’s game of inches as Chris Turner often says. A grateful lady smiling has her wedding back where it belongs. The family outing turned out to be a long day, but instead of a bad memory. Kristy and her family will remember this day as a good day at the beach. So will I . I hope I never get tired of seeing miracles.

Misplaced 18ct Gold Ring In A Downtown Edmonton, Alberta Canada

I received a call on Monday from an elderly lady who had misplaced her mother’s gold ring.

She and her house keeper had looked everywhere in her condo. The ring had been missing for approximately one week and they both felt that it must have gone in the garbage.

Upon arrival on Thursday morning they immediately showed me the garbage and recycle bags outside on the deck and so I went through both bags. The ring was not there.

Next I searched the couch, chairs, cupboards, drawers, book shelves, you name it. I looked under the bathroom sink and furnace registers, and still no ring. I proceeded into the bedroom and checked under and around the sides of the bed. I asked them both if they had looked in the closet and the dressing table drawers. They told me that they had taken everything out. I asked if they would mind if I checked in the drawers, and “BINGO”, there was the ring tucked in between a pair of socks. When I showed her the ring I saw in her face just how relieved she was, and how happy she was to have her mother’s ring back on her finger again.
