Lost Wedding Ring Redondo Beach…Found!

This morning at about 8:00, I received a call from a young lady telling me she had lost her wedding ring. I could hear the emotion in her voice, which let me know she was very distraught. She lost it the day before, and had searched for it herself and was not able to find it. We arranged to meet as soon as possible. I knew the area she lost it in, and also knew the beach cleaners worked that area meticulously, so I was a bit worried initially about being able to find it, knowing time is the enemy we deal with. When we walked down to the area she was in, and showed me the general location, I could see that the beach cleaners had not gone over that portion of the beach, so I was very encouraged. I set up a perimeter, and began my grid. I went out, and then came back, a foil lid, a dime, a penny, and then I heard that low growling sound in my earphones from my Minelab Excalibur ll. I was standing next to her when I pulled my scoop up to see what was inside, and looked at one of the most beautiful pieces of jewelry I have seen. I had showed her the foil, the dime, and the penny when I found them, so I imagine she expected the same when I reached into my scoop. All I can say is that the look of surprise, and joy which appeared on her face when I showed her what I had found was priceless. She and her husband had just gotten married last Summer, and there were some other things that made this ring very important to her. She said her husband had reassured her that it could be replaced, but she knew it would not be the same ring.

This nice young lady sent me the following email, wanting to share her experience as to what this recovery meant to her:

I lost my wedding ring at the beach on a Friday. My husband and I searched and searched the area with no success. It was a rough night to say the least. Early on Saturday morning I called the first 800 number I found after searching on the internet for help. I was in tears as the man I spoke with told me he could help me and gave me Steve Smith’s phone number. I was speaking with Steve minutes later and an hour later, Steve met me at the beach. Within ten minutes and three digs, I had my wedding ring back on my finger. I can’t even begin to express my gratitude for Steve. He was quick to respond, very professional, and successful in finding my ring. Thank you Steve!!!

So the story of this ring continues. I am so happy to be able to bring this joy to people.

Lost ring

I was detecting down at Huntington Beach, California when one of the Lifeguards riding an ATV came up to me and told me about a couple that were looking for their wedding ring, thinking I might be able to help them. I went down to see what had happened, and to ask if I could help. When I got to them, I could see that they had purchased a new metal detector, but one that would not work well in the wet sand. It was at that point that I realized I might be able to help them find their ring, yet I was not able to find it that evening.

At this point I will let them tell their story that they so graciously wrote to put into this blog…

 

What a miracle it was that we met you Steve!

Our 1 year anniversary was less than 2 weeks away.  My husband lost his wedding band while he was surfing in pretty rough conditions.  I immediately assumed that it was lost forever, somewhere in the belly of the sea.  But we still went back to look for it the next day, and that’s when we met Steve.  He graciously offered to help us look for the ring until he had to leave for the day.  In that short time, he wasn’t able to find the ring but we shared our information and told him about the inscriptions in case he was to ever come across it.

The next morning, we were surprised when my husband received a text from Steve telling us that he was going to go back and look for our ring.  That afternoon, my husband thought he’d swing by and do some more looking himself, and when he got there, he saw Steve was still there, waist deep in the water searching for our ring. My husband realized that if Steve wasn’t able to find it, that we probably wouldn’t either, and he left the beach.   A few hours later, Steve sent us a text to tell us that he’d found the ring!

The following night we met up with him and he shared the incredible story about how he’d found the ring.  It brought me to tears!  What a miracle it was that we met Steve!

Steve – we could never thank you enough for what an amazing blessing you were to us and how dedicated you were to finding our ring. Thank you a million times, from the bottom of our hearts – you’ll never know how much this meant to us!

Key ring lost in snow in Evanston, IL. Found for owner

Received a call about keys that had been lost in snow. Actually wasn’t sure if  that was  the case. Could have been lost else ware. Husband was using a snow blower. About 10 minutes later I found them in the snow bank. Used my CTX 3030. image image image

Diamond ring found for owner in Andersonville area in Chicago

imageimageReceived a text message at 7:30AM from the husband. Wife lost her ring while dusting off snow from her pants leg. They looked for 2 days with many people helping her. She was very worried. T searched the area w here she thought it had gone. Nothing. Lots of people had tried to find it unsuccessfully. I used my standard CTX coil. Nothing. I switched to my smaller coil and went close to a car parked on the corner. BINGO! The car had blocked signal to my standard coil.

Gold bracelet found for owner in Glenview, IL

While shoveling snow the owner lost 1/2 of his gold bracelet. This bracelet came unscrewed and fell off. His wife has the same bracelet.

The owner rented a detector but was unable to find it. I was the last resort. He had given up hope of finding it. I came out and searched in the late afternoon…nothing! I told him I would come back the next day. I took readings of the one part. They were all over the place!  Depending if the item was flat or on its side. No consistent read or sound.

I searched with all three coils and gridded the area several times. Because of the metal edging of the walkway I suggested that we use salt or water to melt the snow around the metal edging.

BINGO!!

Same ring lost twice and recovered twice Arlington Heights,IL

imageimagePerhaps this ring looks familiar! It should . I posted it about july 12th 2012 when I first found it in the garden for a customer. Well, today I received another call from the same customer. This time the ring came off while hanging Christmas lights. Ironically, it was found about 3 feet away from where I found it last year!
Maybe I should consider a package discount. 😉

Men’s platinum wedding band reunited with owner in chicago, IL

The ring was lost while cleaning out the back of his SUV. He had just transported a grill and it had some residue in the back that he was sweeping out with his hand. I searched the area that he told me that the ring had landed in. He said that he saw it bounce off the grill and it landed in a very specific area. Two and a half hours later, having gridded the area numerous times, NOTHING! I even hunted in all metal. Dug lots of junk.
I basically was giving up and walked over to tell him. The ring was sitting right on the surface in a completely different area!

14K Mens Wedding band Found in Streamwood, Illinois

Received a call from a gentleman who had lost his ring while mowing the lawn. When I arrived I asked him what type of mower he used and did it pick up the cuttings. Since it did bag the clippings, I asked him where he dumped the cuttings.He directed me to a compost and said that he had checked it. He pointed to the area that he had checked. I turned on my detector and searched the whole compost. I told him that I detected something metal six inches down. I used my handheld, reached into the grass and pulled out his ring. Total time on site 5 minutes or less.

Diamond Engagement Ring found in Fire Pit in Batavia Illinois

Received a call to look for an engagement ring that was lost on the lawn while collecting leaves.

The client was throwing some leaves onto a fire pit and later discovered that her diamond engagement ring was gone. She searched endlessly on her knees an even used a metal detector to search for it. They had dumped the ashes from the fire pit and could find nothing.

I arrived and asked her about what she was doing at the time. I immediately told her to put some water in the fire pit and we emptied the water. Nothing! I search the yard. I gridded it for over an hour, Nothing. Then I went back to the pit. The interior was metal so I could not use the handheld pinpointed. I looked very closely at the silt that remained in the pit. BINGO!!

Lost Ring … Dog Beach, Huntington, Beach, Ca… Found 3 weeks later

Summer is just about over and I just wanted to spend Sunday at sunset searching a part of dog beach doing a little pleasure detecting. They had a big dog surfing event today with a couple thousand people watching. Yes, dog surfing ..It’s a California specialty.

After an hour or so with very little finds, a nice elderly lady walked up to me and asked me if I could hear her with my head phones on.. I thought she was going to ask me what my best find was. ( which detectorsts get asked many times a day). To my surprise, she asked if I had found a gold wedding band within the last 3 weeks. Her son had lost a nice white/ yellow gold wedding band that had been passed down to him from his dad. I told her that I was a member of The RingFinders and I find and return rings for people.  I asked her if she knew where and she pointed down the beach. Then I asked here if her son was here on the beach. She said yes and we  walked over and talked to Darren. Three weeks ago he was walking his dogs and had a little sand on his hands. Darren brushed his hands together and against his pants. The ring flew off his finger into the soft dry sand. He told me that he spent a couple days searching. He even rented a metal detector with no success. He pointed down the beach describing a area that I thought I recognised. I got his contact information and gave him my contact information. Then I asked him if he had time to walk the 3 or 4 blocks to show me exactly. It was starting to get dark but I wanted to get a good location to possibly search later this week. After three weeks on this public beach it may have been found or pushed too deep for the detector to get a reading.  Darren showed me an area about 40ft by 60ft. At the last minute I told him I wanted to give it a quick try before dark. They wanted to leave and I assured them I was ok.  I normally start from the center and spiral for left to right. For some reason I started from the left side planning to work the 60ft. to the right. I went 6 feet and BOOM! there it was. I looked down the beach and Darren, his Wife and Dad were 100 yards away. They were close enough to hear me.. They came back with giant smiles and very grateful that the ring had been found. I was just as surprised as they were.  It’s not only having the top quality detecting equipment, smart phones and computers.  I’m learning that when I say “I WILL TRY ANYWHERE” it works out for the good.. Staying positive and asking the right questions works real well.
