This search was a difficult one. It was the second time I had been to recover some items that had been…well no easy way to say it but quite literally thrown in a lake.

The first visit was very difficult, it was just before Christmas and half the lake/ large pond was frozen which in some ways was helpful as the lost items would have been on the surface of the ice, so I only needed to look where the water had thawed. The water was extremely cold but I did have very high waders. that session I managed to recover one diamond ring and two bracelets before the cold really started to wear me down. Also I didn’t have the best sand scoop.

So I decided to return a couple of days ago with an all new sand scoop constructed by me using an old aluminium fire extinguisher. This thing worked great and was small enough not to grab masses of silt that was very heavy last time. The problem was this time there had been lots or rain and the water level was about a foot higher. this meant in the deepest parts the water would go over the top of my waders ( nearly 5 ft) and fill me up, very uncomfortable, also the control pod of my detector would have been submerged so that was cable tied to my shoulder strap. Anyway after a few hours and bits of trash I had a good signal, there was zero visibility in the water as one could imagine with the amount of silt, so retrieving that target was a challenge, what came out was part of a watch bracelet that was an item I had been tasked to recover. The rest of the watch had to be very close, another ten minutes and out came the rest of the the watch. It was diamond set ladies Omega Constellation with mother of pearl dial and diamonds for each numeral, and still working!

A very happy lady! and a very smelly drive home!

Lost Gold Wedding Band at Waikiki Beach…FOUND!!!

This ring find began when I got a call from Matthew who was on vacation in Waikiki from Australia with his wife Tania and son Jace. While rough housing with his son Jace in the shallow water at Waikiki he noticed his wedding band was gone. He tried briefly to snorkel for it but no luck. I was at home so I went down to Waikiki as Matthew was waiting for me at the zoo parking lot. I figured waist deep water this was going to be a cinch. Matthew showed me the area he was in and it was 30 feet from the Kapahulu wall and no more then 1/2 way out to the surf break wall. I searched until dark and we only found some change, 3 elongated cents and trash. Matthew decided I covered the entire area and we called it lost and not found. I told Matthew I’d ask my buddy Mike if he could check the area the next day. We didn’t think it would pay off but Miracle Mike has worked wonders before. Thankfully the water is getting cold and keeping out the fair weather detectorists. Well Miracle Mike did it again. Extending the search grid out towards the surf break wall at 3/4 the way out Mike came across Matthew’s ring in waist deep water. We figured when Matthew was rough housing with his son Jace he must have tossed the ring off without knowing hence it was much farther out then he expected. Mike brought the ring to my house so I could get it back to Matthew which I did as you can see in the photo. Another vacation ends on a happy note. Aloha to Matthew, Tania & Jace. Lost gold ring in Lake Dora, Mt. Dora, Florida….Found!

As Nick stood at the end of the dock looking out over the water, he realized he was getting rather warm. So he decided to take off his sweatshirt and as he pulled it over his head he felt his gold ring slip off of his finger and watched as it dropped into the water. This was a very special ring, given to him by his grandfather and he immediately felt his heart sink! What was he to do? How could he retrieve his special ring?
A couple of months passed as Nick tried to think of different ways to get his lost ring back. He finally came across theringfinders.com web site and saw that someone could help him and that I was located close by. After calling me and explaining what happened we met at the dock and Nick showed me exactly where the ring fell into the water. It was over 10 feet deep so I suited up and dove in. Right at 10 feet the bottom of the lake had a soft, silky, muddy like texture. As I reached my arm down into the soft silt and mud, my hand was not able to touch the actual bottom of the lake. I used my Garrett pro pointer to find a few targets in the mud but only came up with a handful of nails, screws and a few pieces of aluminum foil. So I figured there had to be another way to retrieve Nick’s lost ring. Two weeks later I tried out a new method for finding rings in the water. I had made up a basket and covered it with half inch hardware cloth and then fixed it to a 16 foot metal pole. My first attempt at dragging the sifter thru the mud and silt lasted 5 hours and still no ring. On Dec. 31st I searched again for only an hour and was asked to leave the dock so the city could set up for fireworks. The next day, Jan. 1st, I went back and after one and a half hours….I could hardly believe my eyes! There in the sifter was Nick’s lost gold ring! I sent Nick a photo and asked him if that was his ring? And as he showed the photo to his family, they all joyously celebrated together! It took 8 hours of hard work to find Nick’s ring and it was so very rewarding and satisfying to finally hand it over to him. Thank you Nick for calling me and for giving me the opportunity to help you recover your lost ring!

Diaper and Memories out the Window, Clarkton, NC

On January 27^th, I noticed I had a missed call and a voice mail on my cell phone. The voice mail was from Brent, saying that he found me through The Ring Finders website and that his wife had lost a ring. He asked if I would call him back. When I called him, I got the full story.

He had taken his wife and very young son out to dinner the evening before. On the way home, his son had one of “those diapers”, every parent knows exactly what I’m talking about, one of those been there, done that, moments. Brent’s wife, Allie was in the back seat and changed the baby. Unfortunately, it got to be a little overwhelming and Allie was compelled to toss it out the window. When she did, her beautiful 18K diamond clustered ring went with it. Allie commented to me, something like, she never does anything like that and she was being punished.

My understanding is they pulled over and immediately started searching for it. According to Brent, he went home and got a metal detector that he’d had as a boy. He also enlisted the help of his dad, Andy. He said, they were out there searching, along the side of the road, into the wee hours of the morning.

Brent text me the nearest address to the location and told me his dad would meet me out there. I plugged the address into my GPS and started the hour plus drive.

I got there a little before his dad and was driving slow along the side of the road looking for a diaper. I finally parked and was walking along the side of the road when his dad pulled up. I followed him down the road a little further where we parked, got out, and introduced ourselves. He walked me over to the spot where I started searching the ditch around the diaper. Andy was walking along the road looking for the ring and in less than a minute, Andy said, “Look what I found.” He was probably 10 feet from me and a foot off the road. I took a picture of the ring and sent it to Brent saying “look familiar” and telling him his dad found it. He quickly responded saying “Are u kidding me. That’s great!” We worked it out that I’d drop it off at his house and surprise Allie. I followed Andy to Brent’s house and waited about a minute for Brent to show up.

I met Allie and told her Brent had called me saying that she lost a ring and asked her to describe it to me. I had it over my little finger with my hand in my pocket and as she’s describing it I held my hand up in the air.

She was very excited.

Lost ring in Lake Eustis, Florida…..Found and Returned!

Danielle called me on a cold, wet Saturday morning in November, desperate for help. Apparently her sister’s fiance, Levi, had bought a beautiful engagement ring and wanted to do a practice run on the “Big Proposal” and somehow lost the ring. She explained that Levi had decided to go to Lake Eustis, with his older brother, and find the perfect spot to practice his proposal. Levi was standing along side of the rail and as he opened the ring box, to his horror, the ring popped out of the box, hit the concrete and dropped into the water below! He was stunned! His precious gift, the white gold ring with the .8 carat diamond was gone! He could not believe what just happened. He called his dear future sister in law, Danielle, and explained his dilemma. She immediately looked on line for someone to help and typed in “Lake Salvage” and nothing came up. Next she thought of “Ring Finder” and bingo, up came one of the ring finders stories.
I packed up my gear and headed for Lake Eustis. It was raining when I arrived and there was Levi, his brother and Danielle standing in the rain, anxiously awaiting my arrival. Levi told me exactly what happened and I could see he was upset….so I tried my best to give him hope and encourage him not to give up. After suiting up, I grabbed by gear and wadded into the murky water. Thankfully it was only 4 feet deep but the bottom was very uneven and full of weeds and debris. Right away I started finding targets. I retrieved a few coins, pull tabs and fishing lures…all the while trying to find Levi’s ring. After 30 minutes or so, I got a strong signal and up came a fish scaling tool. Then right in the exact same spot I got a clear, clean gold signal that proved to be Levi’s lost ring. I will never forget the look of relief on their faces and what a thrill it was to see their smiles. It was an honor to help you Levi, and I hope and pray the story of your lost and found ring brings smiles to your faces each time you recount the events of this day. Jewelry lost In West Los Angeles,CA. house for two years .. found

Two years ago Susan had asked her mother if she could leave some of her jewelry at her parents home because they had a better alarm system. Both Susan and her mother, Molly each put their jewelry pouches in the same box of cleaning supplies underneath a bathroom sink.
Last year Susan went to retrieve her jewelry and the box was not there. It had been replaced with spare lightbulbs by her father. No one in the house remembered throwing the cleaning supply box in the trash. Susan’s mother wasn’t sure if she had placed the jewelry in a different location. The worst possibility was that the jewelry had been thrown out because the box was no where to be found.

After a year of searching the house for other possible hiding places or hoping that Molly would remember if she had hidden the jewelry somewhere else, it was looking like the sentimental keepsakes could possibly be in a landfill somewhere miles away.

A couple weeks after suggesting to Susan how to search the house, she called saying they were overwhelmed with unsuccessfully searching the house. She convinced me to come to the house Tom help her and her mother.

When I arrived at the house I met Molly and she began by telling me the importance of her jewelry that were gifts from relatives in the Far East many years ago. We went upstairs where she showed me the original hiding place. She showed me several rooms and closets where the two pouches of jewelry could have been relocated.

I had a industrial search light and a hand held pinpointer detector that could be used indoors. My first thought was that the items may be on a high shelf. After an hour and a half of systematic searching two rooms and starting in a large closet, I found a plastic shoe box marked candles on a high shelf. When I opened it there was a small red box containing a gold necklace under the candles. When I pulled it out there were two other small boxes and the pink jewelry pouch that Susan had described to me. I went down stairs, asking Susan to come check something for me. Boom!! She exploded with Joy, her rings and other sentimental items she forgot about were safe.

I continued the search in that large walk-in closet. Fifteen minutes later passing my pinpointer detector by a bag of shoes I got a signal. Reaching in the bag, I felt a rolled up plastic pouch that was definitely Molly’s jewelry. It was unbelievable that both Susan and Molly’s items were found in a relatively short time. There was so many other rooms to search. Finally after a year of mental agony haunting everyone in the family, we had closure to the mystery of what happened to the jewelry.

Another special day for me to meet both Susan and Molly, also a pleasure to help them.

A Pair Of Shorts, A Dog, And Diamonds!

This pictured lady was frantic this morning to find out her husband placed her 3 piece white gold and diamond rings in his shorts last night before bed after she left them on the kitchen counter and woke up only to find 2 in his pockets! On top of all the mayhem he was scheduled to leave for out of town business this morning. When her and I started texting I mentioned I could come by but not until this afternoon and the metal detector would probably not work too well in the house and it would be her and I searching in places she and him could look in the meantime. I asked about his sleeping habits like did he get up during the night and was he a sleepwalker…things of this nature trying to get a better feel for the situation. Remaining calm and sensing the frustration I suggested some starting places to look hoping the ring would show up…. the sink drain garbage disposal, bathroom sink drain, along the bed rails, under kitchen appliances and basically just retrace his steps from the kitchen to the bedroom. Suspicion was also cast in their puppy’s direction with the possibility that it was eaten off the floor. She was a former law enforcement officer so naturally everything went on lockdown including the puppy while they searched. So in between texts I got a photo stating God is wonderful! and I knew they had found it! It just so happened that he remembered laying down on 4 pillows in the den playing with the dog and that’s where the missing ring was under the pillows. So I was happy that I could assist thru texts and a bit of detective work to help them find the ring and help save their marriage and get the puppy out of jail! lol

Keys found in Washington Park and returned

Alec was in Washington Park Monday night playing with his dog Slushy (that is really the dogs name, Slushy) in the freshly fallen snow when he lost his keys. He went back to the park that night to search the five inches of snow for the keys with no luck, searching till 1:30 AM. He went out and searched the area again for a few hours the next morning with the same results. He then found my profile on The Ring Finders and called me. Within an hour I was at the park getting the story of how the keys were lost. I set up my detector and began my search. A few minutes later I received a good signal on my detector, I kicked some snow away and there were Alec’s keys. Alec was pretty darn happy to get his keys back (Slushy have me a couple of doggy kisses).

Wedding band recovered near Elizabeth, CO

Colin was visiting his parents’ house near Elizabeth, Colorado for Thanksgiving. He went outside to play with his five year old son on the grassy hill in back of the house. He felt his carbon tungsten ring slide off his hand while wrestling with his son. He spent over an hour searching the grass with no luck.
Colin found my profile on The Ring Finders and called me Friday morning, we made arrangements for me to come and search for his ring later that morning. After two hours of searching the area that he swore the ring came off in I expanded my search location. I located his ring thirty feet or more from where he thought it would be.

Lost Tungsten Wedding Ring at Waikiki Beach…FOUND!!!

This ring find began when I got a call from one of the Waikiki Beach Boys. A young couple Joel & Alba from Maryland reported to him that Joel lost his Tungsten Wedding Ring in the dry sand on the beach. While applying suntan lotion Joel forgot he had taken off his ring and didn’t realize until after they had left the beach. After returning and not finding the ring the Beach Boy googled and found the ring finders. Joel asked if I could be there soonest and I said yes I’m only 10 minutes away. I packed my Excalibur & Scoop and actually got ther in five minutes without traffic. Joel met me on the corner and we walked to the spot on the beach they figured the ring would be. I turned on the Excal and 5 seconds later the ring was in my scoop. Rapid recovery and very grateful couple. Aloha to Joel & Alba!
