I was contacted by a person who was out fishing from his kayak when he accidently knocked his fishing pole into about 40ft of water, then while trying to make a quick grab also lost his sunglasses.  I met him down by the launch a few days later and was able to utilize my ROV (remote operated vehicle) to make the recoveries.  After about an hour and a half both items were recovered.  The visibility in the water was pretty clear which made using the ROV a lot easier.

After a four-hour search for a lost ring, we returned to Leighton’s truck. We listened to a voice message about a lost wedding band. As the loss was on the opposite tide side of Cape Cod, we were on our way, hoping for a better search result; it was not yet time to call it a day. Leighton and I have teamed up for a few reasons: 1) companionship while traveling, 2) it increases the chances to find a lost item, and 3) we can cover twice the area in the time it would take one of us to search it alone.

We met up with Doug. After some fancy parking and a short synopsis of the previous day’s happening Doug led us to the area where he had lost his wedding band while teaching his 3-year-old daughter the thrill of the summertime beach. Feelings of a great beach day got a bit more intense when Doug lost his balance and braced himself with his left hand on the sandy bottom of Nantucket Sound. His daughter stayed high and dry, more than Doug could say about his wedding band. It had slipped from his ring finger and was to stay submerged for a day.

Several searchers using snorkels and goggles were unsuccessful in locating the ring just after it was “lost”. As usual our searching started with a grid search around the area Doug was standing at when he felt the ring slip from his finger. A crisscross search failed in locating the hiding ring. About 40 minutes into the search, I started a diagonal search pattern going well beyond the center of our previous search area. I am glad, as is Doug, that I went some 35 feet closer to the shoreline where I heard an all too familiar tone in my ears. About 10 inches down into the moving sand the wayward ring was in my scoop. It stayed there until Doug came to look into the scoop and identify the ring. Yes, it was his.

After a walk and talk going back to the parking lot, a few pictures, and many Thank You gestures from Doug he was on his way home. Wearing his wedding band and a smile from ear to ear he was anxious to get home and tell his wife the ring had been found and returned to his finger. I may be wrong but I think I heard Doug mention something about letting his wife wait a bit longer for the news so he could show and tell about the find in person.

Leighton and I both felt much better than about 2 hours before. Earlier we had not given up on searching for the other ring we were searching for. We just needed to rethink our search technique, change our detectors and their coil size and return another day to continue the search…We Never Give Up Hope!

Lost Men’s Wedding Ring Recovered and Returned, West Falmouth, MA

James was enjoying the evening surf in chest-deep water when he realized that the platinum wedding band he’d been wearing for 15 years had gone missing from his hand.  An online search for help turned up The Ring Finders and in a short time I received a call.  I met him at the beach a half hour later to see what could be done.

Unfortunately the ring apparently had been lost in chest-deep water on an incoming tide, and the tide was now at neck-deep max.  The wind was kicking up waves of 2 feet or so over the sand bar where he thought the ring might have been dropped.  I didn’t have high hopes for a recovery in those conditions but wanted to give it a try before the ring started to work its way down into the sand.  After 45 minutes of riding the waves and being lifted off the bottom, I admitted that no matter how much ‘fun’ I was having I was on a fool’s errand, so I returned to shore.  We discussed other possible places where the ring might have been lost — in the dry sand where James had been ball playing, or near the water’s edge where he had a little tug of war with his daughter.  I covered these areas carefully with no luck and finally had to give up when it was too dark to see.

James and his family were leaving the next morning to return home to New Jersey, but I told him that I’d come back again at low tide that afternoon and resume the search.  Given the uncertainty about where the ring was lost I didn’t feel too optimistic but I was eager to try.  The next day proved to be beautiful, with low wind, sunshine, and relatively calm seas.  I started by gridding the nearshore area where the tug of war took place, then did a swath along James’ likely path when he went out to the sand bar.  Gridding on the bar yielded no targets at all until I found an inexpensive charm bracelet after a half hour or so.  Then another half hour went by without a single signal until…  a nice strong tone that was either a bottle cap or a ring came through the headphones.  One scoop and a good shake to clear the sand, and James’ ring was in hand!

I contacted James and needless to say, he and his family were thrilled to hear that the ring had been found, despite seemingly difficult odds.  His wedding band is now in the post on its way home.  Thanks James, for giving me the opportunity to help out and ultimately produce another Ring Finders success story!

Silver Father’s Day Ring Lost in the Ivy…Found and Happily Returned

I was doing some shopping in Costco when I received a call from Igor. It seems he had lost a ring, and was hoping I was available to help him. I let him know what I was doing, but told him that as soon as I was finished, and got the food home I would come to help. That sounded good to him, so I would let him know when I was coming.

When I got to his office area Igor showed me where he believed the loss occurred, and showed me what he did to make the ring come off of his finger. He also said that he had purchased a detector to find the ring, but to no avail. The loss happened about 3 weeks prior, but was in such an area that it was sure to still be there. The area was covered with a good cover of ivy and dead leaves. There were some metal objects,and wires that had to worked around, but there was not too many other metal signals coming from the search. I covered all of the area that Igor had shown me with no luck. With experience I have learned that rings do not do what they appear to do, but sometimes the opposite, so it was time to work out of the box. I began to search behind where he thought the ring went, and got a good signal, reached down with the trusty pin pointer finding Igor’s ring. He was very happy as this was given to him from his wife just a couple months ago. It was sure nice to make his day.

I received a call from a young lady who had lost her diamond engagement ring and her diamond wedding band but the only thing was she did not know where she lost them. This is when you have to ask a lot of questions to narrow down the search area, one thing that stuck in my mind was she was at the lake in Mission but did not remember ever taking her rings off. She went on to talk about watching her kids and her friends kids while she was at the lake, I asked her if she put on suntan lotion and she said yes, on her kids and herself. In my experience it’s very common when mothers are at the beach looking after kids and that’s all they think about, so I wanted to go and search the area she was sitting on the beach. The kicker was the rings had been lost for almost one week, the good thing was at this particular lake they do not permit people to detect there without permission.

We got the permission and headed down to the lake with high hopes but also realistic to the fact that these rings could’ve been lost in several different places, this would be a closure search so she could rest assure it wasn’t there and start the search in other places around her house maybe her vehicle. These rings meant absolutely the world to this young lady and after talking to her for a few minutes I could tell how bad she felt and how she also came to the realization that she may never see these rings again.

She took me to the area she was sitting at and within only a few minutes I found the first ring! I gotta tell you I’m as excited as the person I find it for, I absolutely love what I do and how it affects peoples lives in such a beautiful and positive way. The second ring was only a few feet away and the day was a success! It took an hour and a half to get there and less than three minutes to find her smile!

Diamond engagement ring found in Port Hope Ontario

I was contacted by Lisa last week due to having lost her diamond engagement ring at a beach near Port hope. She had actually placed four rings in her jean pocket and then into her beach bag. When it was time to leave, the kids had emptied the bag and Lisa flung her jean shorts over her shoulder, sending the rings flying onto the sandy beach. After searching for a while, a gentleman and his young daughter came over and asked what they were looking for. Lisa told them what had happened and then the little girl showed her a gold ring she had found earlier. It was one of the four missing rings. Remembering where she had found it, they were able to find two more rings in the sand. Unable to locate the fourth ring, her engagement ring, this is when she found me online to go and help. I met up with Lisa’s mom the very next morning at the beach to discover that the town’s beach combing machine had been through the whole beach overnight. Luckily, I was able to find her ring in less then five minutes for her. Another happy ending!!!

Lost Ring on the 4th of July

Kim contacted me on July 14th after receiving a referral for me on a local Facebook group. Over the 4th of July weekend, her son and family were playing soccer at our local high school. Her son put his ring on his gym bag during the game, but forget the ring was on there when he went to pick up the bag to leave.

Kim and her family tried searching for the ring themselves, even renting a metal detector and searching the field. Unfortunately, as the holiday weekend came to an end, her son and his wife had to travel back home, without his ring. As the search continued and the ring was nowhere to be found, Kim posted in a local group for help.

I met Kim and her husband at the soccer field where they showed me the area they believed the ring was lost 10 days earlier. I began my search and found the ring in 20 minutes.

I gave the ring to Kim and her husband and they couldn’t believe it was recovered. They  immediately Facetimed their son to give him the good news!

Lost Ring on Soccer Field

On June 18th, Josh contacted me regarding his lost wedding band. Josh was playing his weekly Wednesday soccer game with friends when he noticed his ring was no longer on his finger. Josh and his friends searched the field tirelessly, but had no luck. Josh googled “lost wedding ring” and found The Ring Finders website where he then contacted me.

I met him at the soccer field that day and he showed me where he believes he lost it. I then got to work, immediately searching the area where Josh believed he lost his ring. After about 15 minutes, I recovered the ring on the soccer field.

I called Josh to let him know that I found his ring and he was thrilled!

Christine called me yesterday about her engagement ring and wedding band that were lost in Ocean City, NJ on Sunday. She realized the rings were missing after she got home and thought they might have dropped in the sand while packing up her beach chair. She gave me the general location of where she sat on the beach and I went to go search. Within 20 minutes of using the metal detector, both rings were found.
