John called me Wednesday night explaining how he was playing volleyball, and lost his ring while going for a hit. He was still at the beach, and was willing to wait for me to come, so I gathered my gear, and was on my way. He met me and walked me over to the area of his lost ring. We talked about what had happened, what he was doing when the ring came off, and what direction the ring was most likely to have traveled. Having all of that information, it took about 5 minutes to find what had eluded John for hours. What a great opportunity to bring a smile back to John for his ride home.

Family Heirloom Returned at St Pete Beach, Florida

Who would have thought that a wedding band lost in the Gulf of Mexico would ever have been found again. This is a story with a wonderful ending thanks to the wonderful guys at SRARC.com. My husband an I were just married in April of 2014. My husband is very close to his family and especially a grandfather who has since passed away. He had his grandfather’s wedding band that had WM to BW 1946. They got married right after he got back from WWII. They were married for 46 wonderful years. We took the gold wedding ring and “soddered” it in the middle of two white gold bands from me. So there was an heirloom from his grandfather and a piece of me, we then added our own inscription to the existing inscription. CB to WS 4/2014. We had our own special love story. We dated for two years in NY and then I moved to Florida for work – Long story short, Bill stayed in NY, he was a teacher and wrestling coach and had a great teaching job in NY. We spent every holiday and vacation back and forth between Florida and New York. Bill showed up one day unbeknownst to me when I was visiting my father in Orlando to say he was here to stay, he was teaching in Tampa. We were married ocean-side in a beautiful ceremony just a few months later. I was so happy to put that ring on his finger.

So, on labor day, we spent a beautiful Monday at my favorite place, St. Pete Beach. We were in the water and all of a sudden I heard Bill say words that put my heart in my throat. “My ring just fell off in the water”. I knew too many people who have lost their rings in the water forever. We looked for hours and could not find it. Leaving the beach that night was heartbreaking. It felt like that was it, we will never see it again. We went home and got on the computer and after only one search I found the SRARC group. Stan contacted me really quickly and we made arrangements to meet in the eve. So I could show him where we were. After they asked me a whole bunch of questions which would help them ascertain where we were, they started looking even before I got there. Chris was already looking when he ran into Stan. I got a phone call later that day from Chris – he found the ring. If I could have kissed Chris on the spot I would have! I was elated!

When I went to pick the ring up, I met Chris and his wife. Two very lovely, sweet people. I did actually hug Chris. I was so happy, I was actually shaking. My husband had just started a new job and couldn’t be there to pick it up, but believe me he was more than ecstatic.

Who would have thought a ring in an ocean would ever be found and found the very next day. I am forever indebted. Not only did they find my ring, but the club does it for free. I did donate to the club itself, but nobody would take money individually. What angels you guys are!

I said a Novena to St. Anthony that day that it was lost – and he sent me you guys! Thank you

Ft Desoto, Florida Double the Fun Recovery

Marcus was enjoying Labor Day weekend with friends and family at Ft Desoto Park and he and a friend decided to toss the football around in the water. After a couple of throws Marcus noticed that his wedding ring was missing. He had stayed pretty much in the same place so he had one of his friends bring him some swim goggles and he started to look on the bottom for his ring. Keeping his wits about him, he had his friend stand in place so they would keep a good reference point. After a few minutes Marcus had a brilliant idea. He borrowed his friend’s wedding ring and proceeded to dive under water and set the ring on the bottom so he could see what it would look like when he searched for his own ring. You guessed it!!!!!!!  The second ring instantly disappeared and he could not find it either. So now we have two wedding rings, one gold, the other platinum lost in very close proximity. After a short while they decided that they had better establish some good landmarks and then find someone with a metal detector. Marcus contacted Ringfinders and we met him at the location the next morning. Four ringfinders, Tom Jones, Paul Hill, Mark Prue, and Mike Miller started the hunt at 9:00 am and by 9:15 am the rings had been recovered. Great work Team!!!!!!!!!. The smile on Marcus’s face says it all.

Platinum Wedding Band Lost at Manhattan Beach, CA…Found

I had just finished dinner when I received a phone call  at about 8:00 PM from Jeff. He had been at the beach playing volleyball, and not wanting to lose his rings, he put them in his shirt which he placed on his beach chair. It wasn’t until he went back to sit down and rest that he realized someone had moved the chair about 10 feet from its original location. The first thing he did was look for his rings, and found one, the other had fallen into the sand, and so began his search. He and his friends looked and looked for the ring, and could not find it. I told him I would get there right away, so they waited until I arrived. They showed me the area, and Jeff pointed to the area the chair had been moved to thinking that would be the place. I began my grid, and slowly worked my way to the area the chair had been moved to, and right in front of the chair was where I found Jeff’s ring. In 10 minutes, I was able to hand his ring back. He will be able to sleep well tonight. It was nice that Jeff’s friends waited with him until the ring was found, so we all celebrated together; a lot of “high-fives” going around.

“Priceless” Tungsten Wedding Band Lost at Playa Del Rey Beach, CA… Found

I received an email from Laura this morning regarding her husband’s lost wedding ring. They had been to the beach last night enjoying the warm night air, and having dinner. Her husband started digging in the sand, and soon realized his wedding ring was missing. They had gotten married two years ago, and honeymooned in Ireland. They were enjoying themselves when due to circumstances beyond their control, they had to abandon their original itinerary, and ended up in a small hamlet somewhere in Ireland. It was there where they met a jeweler in a small shop who took a liking to the newlyweds, and offered to engrave a special message of love on the inside of each ring in Gaelic. A ring with a story like this is irreplaceable, and therefore is priceless. We arranged to meet at the beach at about noon. When I got there, and she showed me the area of the loss, I set up and began my grid. I worked one way towards where they began, and then worked back picking up numerous bits of trash. It was then I heard the sound of something good in my earphones. I was able to give Laura back her husband’s ring after about 20 minutes. It was wonderful to see such joy return to Laura, and her husband through the text he sent to her when he saw the picture of his ring. Awesome day, the story of the ring continues.

Ring recovered at Honeymoon Island, Florida

81 year old James Mahaffery and his wife were down from Gainsville visiting their son and they decided to spend some time at the beach. Last Wenesday they headed out to Honeymoon Island and were enjoying the water. James was on his hands and knees playing in the surf when his hand slipped off a rock and his custom ring disappeared into the sand. They looked for quite a while but could not find it. The ring was a custom made heavy silver ring with 2 horizontal bands of gold and had been on his hand for many years. They gave up and a few days later contacted Howard Metts to see if he could help. Howard is member of the SRARC ringfinders team so he made arrangements for the team to do a hunt on today. Six hunters showed up and within 30 minutes the ring was recovered. James son met us at the beach and when Chris returned the ring he called his Mom and she was so surprised and pleased it was a joy to hear her reaction over the phone. A big thanks to Chris Duerden, Howard Metts, Paul Hill, Mark Prue, Stan Flack, and Mike Miller for helping with this recovery.

Lake Tarpon, Florida Wedding Ring Found

Ammi found us on Ringfinders and contacted Tom with a request to recover a special ring that had been lost under her dock on Lake Tarpon. We happened to be in the area when Tom called to see what we could do, so we headed over to Ammi’s house. We found out that Ammi’s daughter Jen, and a friend Marie, had laid a towel on the dock and Marie decided to put her ring on the towel so it could not be lost. The ring was handed down to her by her father. It had been his mother’s wedding ring and carried a very large sentimental value within the family. Later in the day Marie picked up the towel, forgetting there was a ring on it and sure enough the ring fell between deck boards.

The space under the dock was very tight so Paul went under alone and worked for about 45 minutes before finding the ring right next to one of the support posts. The girls were just overjoyed when they saw Paul holding the ring. Some more big smiles!!!!  Way to go Paul.

Soccer Field Wedding Ring Recovery, Palm Harbor, Florida

Brian was having a great Sunday Soccer game until he was headed home and noticed he no longer had his wedding ring. He returned to look for it and even considered renting a metal detector but then he  discovered there was a club that offered to recover lost items. He sent an email and Mike Miller responded and then set up a hunt of the entire soccer field for the following Saturday morning. Paul Hill, Howard Metts, Elmer Stennes, and Mike showed up for the hunt. We hunted the entire field and after 3 hours Paul found the missing ring. Brian could not believe the dedication we had in searching for the ring and was very pleased with the result. As you can see by his smile he is very happy to have his wedding ring back on his finger. Way to go guy’s !!!!!!!!

Platinum Engagement Ring Lost at Sunset Beach, CA…Found.

I received a call from Kellie last night at about 6:30 about losing her ring in the surf at the beach. She explained how this ring had an extreme sentimental value to her because of personal circumstances in her family. Well I looked at the tide charts, and realized that it would not be good to go at that time because the tide was rising, but arranged to meet her and her husband Anthony at the beach this morning, at 12:00 AM. We got to the spot, and Kellie had told me how the current was very strong when she went in. She had been about waist deep when the ring came off, so I knew that with the lower tide, and the weight of the ring, I would be able to get into the area the ring had settled in. They had a real good idea where the ring was lost, and even had a landmark (someone had dug a hole in the sand), from which I began my search at about 12:15 AM. I know this beach, and the current flows like a river that runs parallel to the beach with such power that it is hard to stand against it at times. I began my search working up and down the slope, and off into the direction the current was flowing, figuring the ring would have been carried in that direction as it sank. Well about 45 minutes later, I received a good signal down at the water’s edge, and in one scoop had her ring. They had gone to the lifeguard tower to wait, and as I walked up the beach I saw Kellie jump down and hurriedly come my way in the darkness. She was overwhelmed with joy at the sight of the once lost ring, and she and her husband were so thankful. What a pleasure it was to be able to return this joy to them. Kellie was referred to me by Stan Ross (fellow Ring Finder).
