In August, I got an email from Lindsay after she saw my listing in the Ring Finder’s directory. She lost the rings last year when a friend accidentally pulled them off her fingers. She had another detectorist do a search that summer, but he could not complete the recovery.

The access to the river is on private property. With all the variables of work, family, and the schedules of the owners, it was difficult to schedule a day. We finally got to the river on a beautiful Saturday morning. My wife who is a certified divemaster, acted as my safety diver. Lindsay’s husband Brett, met us in a nearby town and we followed him to the property. A pleasant gentleman who is one of the landowners met us at the river.

Brett paddled out from the small dock to where he thought the rings dropped. He gave me every detail he could remember and placed me within 15 feet of where I found the rings. Brett’s memory and ability to find the location was invaluable. Lindsay was tenacious and never gave up hope. I am so glad I could help them recover the rings.

I have been metal detecting above and below the water for many years. This is my first recovery through Ring Finders. Thank you to Chris Turner for creating the directory and getting us together!

Lost Engagement Ring Found In The Bay At Ocean City, Maryland

On 08/21/16, I received a call from Tom requesting my help in locating an engagement ring that had been lost in the waters of the bay in Ocean City, Maryland. I learned that Tom and Michelle had been engaged on 08/12/16 and while visiting the Ocean City, Maryland area the ring had been lost in the bay on 08/20/16 at 6:30 pm. Tom and Michelle had ridden a jet ski from the residence that they were staying at over to a local restaurant, while sitting on the jet ski Michelle decided to place her engagement on her necklace chain for safe keeping. Before Michelle could get the ring on her necklace chain it slipped out of her hand and fell into the water. Tom made arraignments with the local restaurant to allow me to search for the ring on 08/22/16 at 7:00 am as the ring had been lost in the water just off of the beach of the restaurant. Upon arriving at the search location, Tom and Michelle took me to the area where the ring had been lost. The ring had been lost in about two feet of dark murky water right in the area where  jet skis had been docked. After Tom pointed out the area of the lost ring I placed four markers in an area measuring about six feet by six feet. In that area I recovered four beverage pull tabs, during a search I dig all targets just in case. I also showed Tom and Michelle all four tabs as I recovered each one. I then started to work the area of deeper water away from the beach at which time Tom told me that he felt the that ring had been lost closer to the beach. I adjusted my search at which time I began to search the outside area of where I had placed the first marker. Just as I began to search next to the first marker the sound that I was waiting for came through my headset. I then recovered the ring and as I pulled it out of my sand scoop I revealed the prize to Tom and Michelle who were truly grateful for the return of the ring. Congratulations to Tom and Michelle on their engagement. seecrets-oc-md.

Lost ring at Coronado found

Laura was at the beach with friends and lost her wedding ring. She had taken off all her jewelry and had placed them in her bag. Through the course of the day she removed items from the bag and the ring must have accidentally come out with them. At one point, the blanket was dragged 30 feet downwind to get a good shaking to remove the accumulated sand. Once she realized that her ring wasn’t in the bag anymore, the search was on. Soft sand and fairly large possible search area = no success. One of her friends went online seeking help and TheRingFinders.com popped up. I got the call and gathered my gear for hopefully a quick search. I’d been out all morning detecting in the 100 degree heat, so, I was hoping for an easy one. After gathering all the info I could, I had them move a bit of their gear so I could start my grid. After a quarter and a few pieces of scrap metal, I got a low tone right at the edge of the supposed search area. After the sand drained out of my scoop, I see a nice diamond ring matching her description. Cheers go up as everyone realized that it had been found along with a couple of heartfelt hugs. A pleasure to meet you all and thank you for the reward. Now, time for A/C and a cold one!

Lost Silver Ring FOUND in Kerrville, TX. Louise Hays Park!

Late Tuesday afternoon I received a Facebook message from Annette saying she had lost her ring on Sunday in Kerrville’s Louise Hays Park. She explained that she actually lost three rings but was able to find only two of them. She said she knew the approximate area that the ring should be in. I told her I would be happy to attempt to recover her ring but I would have to get permission from the City Parks Department in order to use a metal detector in the park. I emailed the Parks Department for permission but it was too late in the day to get a response. We decided to meet that evening at the site of the loss just to go over the details and spot the exact location. Arriving at the location my wife and I both said “Wow, it looks like the grass was just mowed today!” Sure enough the grass in the area of the loss was freshly mowed. What if the mower picked the ring up and spit it out to who knows where?

Late Wednesday morning I received an email from Ashlea at the Kerrville Parks Department saying I have permission to look for the ring with conditions such as no disturbing the soil, etc. I wrote back my thanks to Ashlea and stated this would strictly be a surface search. At noon I went down to the park and went to work detecting with my Garrett AT PRO and Garrett Pro Pointer. Wow, there was a lot crackling through my headphones – lots of great tones coming from below the surface! This particular area was very near concrete picnic tables that were probably there since the park was built in 1950. (Interesting side note: The entire 35 acre Louise Hays Park was built by the citizens of Kerrville in 1 day http://joeherringjr.blogspot.com/2013/01/kerrvilles-louise-hays-park-built-in-day.html#.V9n94pgrKVM ). Knowing the ring would be on the surface and not buried, I concentrated on my depth meter and used my Pro Pointer to pinpoint good targets. About 45 minutes of swinging and pinpointing (and lots of bottle caps and a few pennies) BINGO! There was this little silver ring hidden in the grass and clover!

I sent this picture of the ring where I found it to Annette and she replied OMG! We set a time to meet so she could place the ring back on her finger where it belonged. As you can see in the picture, Annette had a huge smile while I smiled from behind the camera.

Ring lost in Carmel Valley, Found

Greg called me asking for help finding his wedding ring in the backyard pool area of a friend’s home. He had been playing pool volleyball, when he lost his ring sometime during the fun. When he got out of the water, he noticed his naked finger, and started a search. They dove back in the pool and scanned the bottom, checked the filter, and combed the surrounding area…..even that night with a powerful light, hoping to catch a glint of sparkle from one of the stones in the band. No luck, so, Greg found me online and arranged to meet me at the friend’s house. When I arrived, we discussed the events leading up to the present, and I started my search while they went and rechecked the pool filter one more time. I started my search at one end of the yard beyond the west end of the pool. Not 2 minutes later, I found the ring on the first signal. It was just 6 inches from the fence in some sand. Those are the ones we like! Quick and drama free! Good thing, as some of the yard would have been a challenge with rocks, bushes and other landscaping that would have been a lot harder to search. Platinum wedding band lost at Coronado, Found

John and his family were visiting from Las Vegas and enjoying the beach at Coronado when John lost his ring out in the surf. No way to visually find it once it hits the bottom and gets covered by sand. They saw a a couple metal detecting nearby and ask for their help, but, the ring still couldn’t be found. When I got the call for help from John’s wife Angela, I was planning another ring search at a nearby beach, so, I added John’s to my to-do list. They had already returned home, so, I  asked Angela to send me a map of the search area and a pin poked into the most likely spot. The next decent low tide was about 4am. I started with my first ring search (actually my third attempt for this ring) and after that turned out to be unsuccessful, I headed to Coronado to give that one a try. Armed with my map and a verbal description of the search area, I hunted for about and hour when I got a good signal at dead low in ankle deep water. Sure enough, after verifying the description, it was John’s ring. I sent a text to Angela who arranged for the ring to be shipped home to them. She didn’t tell John that it was found, but, instead, surprised him the following Friday night by handing him a present. When he opened it, he couldn’t believe what he saw! It was all caught on camera, so, I’ll try to figure out how to attach the video. For now, here’s a photo of the ring and of a very happy family. Lost ring found at The Silver Strand State Beach

Emily left a message on my answer machine, my voice mail, e-mail, and texted my phone about her engagement ring lost in the sand at the Silver Strand. I figured she must want it back! 🙂 We made arrangements to meet at the scene in a couple of hours so they could show me the search area. When I arrived, I got the story on how it was lost. She had caught a football and the ring popped off her finger. She immediately dropped to her knees and started sifting through the sand, but, couldn’t find it. She was joined by the rest of her group, but, the same result….no ring. Now, several days later, my concern was that someone else might have found it. There is a campground at the other end of the beach and many campers like to detect too. The good part was that they were in a less used area in front of the parking lot normally closed off during the week. She remembered where she was when she caught the ball, so, I started there and spiraled out from that point. I was finding a few good coin targets, so, I figured that nobody had beat me to the spot and gridded the area. After almost and hour and many promising foil targets, I got another weak foil signal and a couple of scoops later, saw a beautiful white gold engagement ring in my scoop. Needless to say, Emily was overjoyed to get it back and amazed that I found it, and that it was so far from where she had caught the ball.  That’s the way the ring bounces sometimes! Lost Silver Cross Necklace in Delaware, OH. “FOUND”

Jon Baughman, a Ring Finder, received an email about a lost silver cross necklace somewhere in his back yard. He was adding a patio on the back on his house. During his work he was using a skid steer to move dirt away from the house and also use a compactor to compact the gravel  by the house as he lost his silver cross necklace somewhere throughout the day which was handed down from his grandma. All of the dirt was mud which has harden to almost undigable ground. After searching in the dirt with only finding nails and strap tin from the house construction. I expanded my search to the next area which is compacting. And there the silver cross necklace hiding in the grass right as he started compacting. He was very happy that I was able to find the lost silver cross necklace that he almost started to cry in joy.

Lost Ring Cardiff California

I got a call for Milo’s search and recovery, something I started back in 1996.  Got the location and headed down to meet them.  20 min drive and his Mother inlaw moves her car so I can park, as its on coast hwy. We head to area of loss as he tells me how it came off.  I laughed and said, most of the calls are off by 10 to 20′.  I ask kind of metal and turn on the MX Sport.

Im running a 6 X 10 coil on it.  I always start outside edges of area cause I’ve had really fast recoverys by doing this.(?)  3/4 way though first pass and display screams  “gold”

Ha what a great feeling, people from down the beach came over and the SMILES WERE FLOWING.
