It was a rough search . I arrived at high tide, and the seaweed made the search impossible. but as the high tide went out the seaweed cleared. And over 5 hours I finally found the ring right where he said it was.

Sokni and her family will be moving into a new home. She was worried that there may be nails or sharp metal objects in the backyard where her young children would be playing. She called me asking if I could use my metal detector to remove possible dangerous metal objects.
I asked if she had any reason that there were such objects in the yard. She told me that she just had a feeling that there might be metal trash because the house was about 30 years old. ‘We agreed to meet her the next day figuring that this would be a quick little search that would give Sokni peace of mind.
After scanning the first 20 feet of lawn, I was surprised to find several sharp screws, nails and a old razor blade. The general area was loaded with ferrous and non ferrous signals near the surface. This was a challenge to me and a good chance to dig all metals. Normally I’m just searching for precious metals.
This search took several sessions to complete the project and I was able to spread it out over a couple 3 hour searches. The photos show what was in the backyard. I couldn’t believe how many sharp items were in that small yard.

Laura was at Huntington State Beach with her family all day Sunday. She believed that her Rose Gold Diamond engagement ring fell in the sand when she removed her sweater from her beach bag. Late Wednesday night she found TheRingFinders website while researching metal detectors on line.
It was almost midnight when she sent me an email. She was asking if I could help her. It was 9 am Thursday morning when I read and replied to her email, asking her to call me ASAP. Emails are nice but it was another couple hours till we were able to set up a meeting on the beach.
We were lucky that it wasn’t Huntington City Beach which has very efficient beach sifting equipment. Also this time of year there is always a chance that recreational detectorist may have found it, not knowing who to return it to.
As we walked towards the fire pits where the ring was lost. I tried not to tell Laura about the negative possibilities that could hamper our search. Laura showed me the first of two places it could be. Setting up my detector, I took a couple practice swings. Beginning my grid I got nice solid signal that didn’t quite sound like gold. After scooping the target, I could see the rose gold engagement ring in the scoop. Rose gold is a composite of metals that gives a little different ID reading than other precious metals.
Laura lit up like a light when she saw it in the scoop. She gave me a big smile for the photo as you can see. We walked back to our cars and she was full of joy all the way there. She had four miserable days worrying that her ring was gone forever. Now the ring was back where it belongs. It was definitely a pleasure to help her, it never gets old doing this. Well, I’m not sure if this counts as 2 rings or more but I am sure that Kelly and Bill are absolutely thrilled that I was able to put them back on her hands where they belong. Kelly and Bill have been married for 25 years and have been down vacationing from Michigan. Kelly folded her rings into her swimsuit early in the day for safekeeping and forgot they were there when she got up later to meet her sister. You can imagine her shock when she realized they were gone that evening. Kelly went ahead and called me even though it was nighttime and I’m glad she didn’t wait. Bill had gone out with a sand flea rake for fishing and combed the area already to no avail. I told him later that he had actually just made the rings go deeper and deeper every time he disturbed the sand because of the density of gold. Luckily for Kelly and Bill, I have a wonderful wife and even though we were at dinner 30 minutes away, she offered to ride with me and we immediately went home and grabbed my gear. I met Bill in the parking lot and he walked me down to the area he thought they had lost them. I could see all of the rake marks and I told Bill I would start my search there and then fan out if needed. I absolutely love night searches on the beach. It’s nice and cool and you can hear the waves over the hum of the machine in my headphones. You can enjoy the stars without bumping into sunbathers and it’s just a great time to enjoy what I do. I also knew that I had a very anxious couple waiting on the outcome so I was very glad that as I made my first pass I heard a faint gold sound. I was a little surprised at how deep it was even though I knew Bill had thoroughly raked the area. When my first gentle scoop to five inches came back empty I thought to myself that they were very lucky they called me and I had the machine that I was using. The second scoop was the charm and I reached down and dug the first ring out of the scoop to make sure I didn’t scratch it. When I saw that I had them both in the scoop, I smiled and handed them to Bill. With a shaky hand, he asked me to hold the light and he took a picture and sent it to Kelly in the room so she could stop worrying immediately. We walked back up and told my wife that I was already done in less than 10 minutes and Bill asked us both to come up and meet Kelly. When we walked in the door I was quickly reminded why I do this. Bill and Kelly both got choked up remembering how much those rings had been a part of over the last 25 years. I was glad that my wife got to witness that and I hope Bill and Kelly have many, many more happy years together. 👍😃
Greg has been at Will Rodgers Beach in Santa Monica, CA. He lost a very expensive high tech hearing aid. He called me asking if I had metal detectors that could find a hearing aid lost in the sand. I have several metal detectors that are specifically for finding small objects. The most important factor, is getting me to the general location as soon as possible.
I met him about 3pm in the afternoon with probably a couple hours of daylight left before dark. These hearing aids actually have gps locating capabilities and the last location was across the street near the bus stop. We went to search that location first without success.
Greg brought the matching hearing aid and it was quite easy to get a good signal. Now he pointed out an area of the beach where he had been flying a kite with his son.
It was a massive area, probably as big as a football field. Plan “A” was to start gridding 30’x 30’ quadrants. While starting the first 30 feet, Greg told me that he had fallen down at the other end of the search area.
I changed my search plan, deciding to start from the place where Greg had fallen.
We proceeded to walk over to that location. I left my detector on as we walked diagonally to a new starting spot 100 yards away. Stopping a slow grid and stepping up my pace, I only went 20 feet when I got a signal that was worth checking.
Unbelievable! There was Greg’s hearing aid. First target 20 minutes after starting a search that I felt was going to be possibly 3 or 4 hours.
Greg later told me that he had only been using these hearing aids for 4 months and the whole set was valued at more than $10k. We saved a whole lot of trouble getting it replaced besides the expense to get a replacement.
I believe in miracles, but they don’t happen if you don’t try.

Klara is a Arizona college student visiting Santa Monica Beach, CA. during spring break. She and her friends were at the Original Muscle Beach workout area. Before she decided do a few moves on the different bars, she took off her rings putting them in the pocket of her shorts.
Later that evening at the hotel she realized two of her silver rings were missing. They were special to her as they were gifts from her mother. The next morning she was flying back to Arizona. Doing a quick search on the internet Klara was able to get my phone number.
We talked, I agreed to do the search without out her if she could send me a google earth screen shot with areas marked up.
The most likely place for the rings to be lost were the workout bars but she said they had also sat on the sand to watch other athletes workout.
Most times successful recoveries happen in the location of the most activity. This time after an hour searching under and around the workout bars, I went to the place were they sat in the sand. Both rings showed up in the sand scoop just as I was running out of a space to search.
I was able to text a photo of the rings to Klara and the next morning I mailed them to her with a request for her to send me a photo of her holding the rings.

(March 2, 2019) While vacationing with her husband and family from Minnesota and spending the afternoon at a nice sunny Florida beach, Nicole discovered that her rose gold diamond wedding engagement ring she’d carefully hidden in a secure location was missing. Steven was fishing in the surf at Long Beach, CA. His hand got hung up in his fishing line and his ring came off his finger flying into the dry sand. After two hours of searching the sand with his hands, he did a google search for metal detector service. That was how he found my contact information.
When I talked to Steven I was sure that the ring could be found if he could meet me at the location. He was concerned that the tide was rising and it would soon be under water. I assured him that would not be a problem as I would be there within an hour. Even if it was in the water we still can find it. The most important factor is that he can be there to put me in the general location. Sometimes people leave the area and can’t get back to the location, especially on the beach.
When I walked out to meet Steven, he was a little frustrated as he and his friend had been sifting through the sand with their hands for a couple hours. He showed me what had happened when he felt his ring fly off his finger.
I set up my metal detector, beginning a short 15 ft. grid pattern. I got a nice signal on my third pass which turned out to be Steven’s platinum wedding band. He was ecstatic and surprised that it was more than 10 ft. from where he thought it would be. As usual he couldn’t believe how fast it was found. It has a lot to do with timing, also having the right tool (metal detector) for the right job.

I received a call from James, who had lost a hearing aid in his yard when bees attacked him as he was doing yard work. He had rented metal detector and it was not able get signal from his other hearing aid.
I was only a half hour from his home in Sherman Oaks which is part of the Los Angeles suburbs. We met and he was concerned that the bees may hamper my ability to search the hillside landscape. I was just happy that my high frequency metal detector could get a decent signal from an identical hearing aid.
The hillside was steep and was fairly free of vegetation. It was possible to search about 35 feet from the underground bees (wasps) nest without arousing them. After about a half hour with a few signals from pieces of wire and nails, I got a signal that turned out to be the missing hearing aid.
I used a XP Deus metal detector with a 74 kHz high frequency coil that has been awesome for finding small gold and platinum stud earrings. It was a fun hunt and pleasure to help James find such an important item that he desperately missed after three days without his hearing aid.
