Patrick lost his iPhone on the beach the night before in Avalon, NJ. He and his friends went swimming and Patrick placed his phone down somewhere in the sand. When he returned from the ocean, he could not find the phone. He called his mom who was at a party in Chester County and someone mentioned to give me a call. I spoke to her and met Patrick and his friends on the beach shortly after.

Some of his friends thought it was just like the show Outer Banks. We were going to look for the Royal Merchant gold treasure. The boys sat and watched for about 45 minutes while I scanned the beach with the metal detector. The iPhone was found after a great signal! The treasure was returned.

Cartier ring found in Lake in the Hills

  • from Rockford (Illinois, United States)

I receive a text from Yulia inquiring about a possible ring search.  Later in the day we spoke on the phone, she informed me that her husband  had lost his wedding ring somewhere in the yard while doing some yard work.  He had taken his ring off and put it in his pocket in fear of losing it while digging up some bushes. Within a half hour he noticed that his ring wasn’t in his pocket anymore.  He was using a tool in the garden and was keeping it in the same pocket as his ring. At some point he pulled the tool out of his pocket and the ring fell out at the same time. He had only been in two places in the half hour since he put the ring in his pocket. The front flower bed, and a raised garden in the backyard. When I arrived I did a thorough search of the flowerbed in the front yard. Nothing.  Yulia then showed me the area around the raised garden where her husband had been working.  No luck there either. Yulia then said that she remembered him walking from the raised bed into the back door of the house and asked if I could search his path. I said, of course. A few steps towards the house and I got a solid 13 on my Equinox 800. I didn’t see it at first glance. So I used the pinpointer and buried deep in the thick, plush grass was her husband’s Cartier ring!!

Success!!

Another smile for the book!

Tungsten Ring Lost in Sea at Tutukaka – Found!

  • from Paihia (New Zealand)

Bryans partner contacted me asking if I was able to assist with recovering his ring, lost while playing in the shallows at Kowharewa Bay near Tutukaka.
He had been larking around, and had thrown a clump of seaweed…and his tungsten ring.
Their efforts to find it visually were unsuccessful, and even as his partner messaged me, Bryan was out looking for it on the the low tide.
I arrived a while before they did the next day, and started the search in front of the popular swimming area, albeit on entirely the wrong section of beach – which is precisely why I always ask that someone always meets me on site.
Bryan duly arrived and indicated where he had been, and in which direction he had thrown the seaweed – This shifted the search area, and increased the odds of a successful recovery signficantly.
I did a cursory search of the beach above the waterline, before returning to the car and rekitting for a water search.
After returning to the search area, I was in around waist deep water and before long got that lovely ‘double hit’ return in the headphones.
The scoop came up with shell, gravels and sand which, when flushed, left a few shells and … Bryans tungsten ring.

I held it up to Bryan who was in the water a few metres away, which generated smiles all round.

Bryan wasn’t keen on a photo, so you’ll have to make do with me, sorry.

Gold Ring Found in Doubtless Bay Chicken Coop

  • from Paihia (New Zealand)

I was recommended to Kim and Kevin after Kevin had lost his Great Grandfathers ring, passed down to the eldest son through the generations. His father sadly passed away recently and Kevin became the new custodian.  Understandably, the ring carries a huge sentimental attachment.
Kevin wasn’t sure where, or when, he had lost it.
He just knew that it wasn’t beside the sink after he’d finished washing his hands after working in the garden that morning.
He had a few sleepless nights before the day of the search!

On site, I retraced Kevins activities. I made note of each area of interest and ranked them as to the likelihood of holding the ring as we wandered around the property.
There were three probable areas, but I had brought the remote camera with me, just in case it got all forensic with nooks and crannies (Or “Crooks and Nannies” as I like to call them).

First up was the garden where he had been planting seedlings and weeding. Lots of wisps of wire and assorted metal with the big coil, I switched to the small handheld coil.
This was better in among the random signals, but slow going to ensure every coil sweep was overlapped to avoid missing a single square inch.

Then I headed down to the chicken run where he had spread some hay out.
Several problems were encountered in here; The abundance of metal chicken mesh in close quarters, the fact that every time I stopped to investigate a target under the hay at least one chicken adopted me as a fancy perch with foot-warming function… and, let’s just say I was glad I was wearing disposable gloves as well!

Despite the assistance in removing various invertebrates, the chickens and I did not locate the ring in the run.Spotting fresh straw had also been placed in the nest boxes, I moved outside – thankful to be vertical and chicken-free.
I worked my way through each of the nest boxes, when my fingers closed on a heavy, round ring buried under the sawdust.

I left it under the watchful gaze of the chooks, while I took my gear back to the car then called out to Kevin.
“I’ve got something of yours!”,  and led him and his wife to the chicken run.

I opened up the nest box and Kevin reached in to retrieve the ring.

It remains a mystery how and why it came off here, as it is a tight fit on his finger and the nest box was not a ‘likely’ area.
We could only assume that the strings when carrying the bales had worked it down his finger without him noticing – only to drop off as he fluffed up the sawdust.

Regardless, Kevin had now been reunited with his Great Grandfathers ring.

Job done.

Christine called me yesterday about her engagement ring and wedding band that were lost in Ocean City, NJ on Sunday. She realized the rings were missing after she got home and thought they might have dropped in the sand while packing up her beach chair. She gave me the general location of where she sat on the beach and I went to go search. Within 20 minutes of using the metal detector, both rings were found.
