Mother’s Ring Lost While Pulling Weeds on Mother’s Day…FOUND Maysville, Alabama!

This was my second of two ring searches on May 9th, 2022.  This one was in Maysville, AL for a 14K white gold mother’s ring and the first one was in Lincoln, AL for a 14K yellow gold wedding band.  It’s about a 2 hour and 15-minute drive between the two locations.  I’m very happy to report that both rings were successfully found!  Ring search #2…

I received a text message from Heidi on Sunday, May 8th, 2022.  This happened to be Mother’s Day and Heidi said that she lost her mother’s ring that same day.  Heidi explained that she was weeding the side of the driveway earlier in the day and noticed that the ring was missing shortly after.  I thought that this was a typical mother’s ring where the ring contains the children’s birthstones, but this was not the case.  This ring actually belonged to Heidi’s mother and was passed on to her.  It was in their family for about 65 years!  Unfortunately, Heidi’s mother passed away 2 years ago.  Heidi’s sister had the smaller rows of diamonds added.  Their mother had a hinge added to the ring when she developed rheumatoid arthritis.  Heidi said that the hinge would sometimes pop open, and she believed that the white gold ring came off while she was pulling the weeds.  She wasn’t wearing gloves.  This ring is extremely sentimental to Heidi and her family.  It was imperative that I find it.

The search was scheduled for the following day (Monday, May 9th, 2022) around 5pm when I got there after work.  However, I ended up getting a call for another lost ring in the Coosa River in Lincoln, AL.  I ended up going to that one immediately, because it was lost in a public area.  I like to go to those types of search ASAP to avoid the potential of someone else finding the ring.  If that happened the owner may never see the ring again.  I went to that search in Lincoln.  I thought it would be a quick one and I would make it to Maysville around the time we originally scheduled, but that Lincoln search ended up taking around 2 hours.  I didn’t make it to Heidi’s house in Maysville until just after 8pm.  I apologized profusely, but Heidi said that she understood due to where the ring in Lincoln was lost.  Heidi said that I could come back the following day, but I had my high lumens headlamp and flashlight with me, so it would be no problem.  I told her that I would do a quick scan and if I didn’t find it, I would come back the following evening for a more thorough search.

Heidi took me to the area where she had been pulling weeds from the side of her driveway on Sunday.  I had told her not to throw anything away, so Heidi left all of the weeds in front of that spot.  The search area wasn’t too big, so I thought that I had a good chance for a recovery that night.  I turned on my Minelab Equinox 800 metal detector with the 10×5 Coiltek coil and started my search.  The first signal I checked turned out to be wires from an electrical pole.  I kept going and the next signal I had was a loud and solid tone in the lady’s gold range.  I bent down to check it with my Garrett AT Pro pin pointer.  I parted a couple of leaves and saw that shine of white gold beaming back at me!  I looked back at Heidi and said, “GOT IT!”  Heidi was shocked, because I had just started searching.  She quickly came over and her eyes locked on her mother’s ring.  She bent down, picked it up, and gave me the biggest hug!  I could feel the stress melt away and tears of happiness.  Best feeling in the world!  I’m so blessed that I get to do this.

We determined that the hinge had popped open and caused the ring to come off.  Heidi said that she was going to take it to the jeweler and get it fixed.  We walked over to the front porch to take some pictures.  Heidi’s husband, Bart, walked out and gave me a big fist bump.  He said, “thank you for making my wife happy!”  We chatted for a few minutes, and I got a few more hugs from Heidi.  Heidi is the owner of Flint Ridge Farm, a full-service horse boarding and teaching facility.  If you’re ever in the Maysville, Alabama area, please check them out!

While it was a long day between working half a day and going on 2 ring searches, the searches/returns are the thing that I love doing the most and were well worth the effort!  I praise God for another successful recovery!  I wonder what type of adventure the next call will bring…

FOUND with Metal Detector…Lost Gold Wedding Band in the Coosa River Lincoln, Alabama!

This turned out to be my first of two ring searches on May 9th, 2022.  This one was in Lincoln, AL for a 14K yellow gold wedding band and the second one was in Maysville, AL for a 14K white gold mother’s ring.  It’s about a 2 hour and 15-minute drive between the two locations.  I’m very happy to report that both rings were successfully found!  Ring search #1…

I received a call from Austin just before noon on Monday, May 9th, 2022.  Austin stated that he lost his 14K yellow gold wedding band the day prior (Mother’s Day) while walking to his boat in 2-4 feet of water in the Coosa River (part of Logan Martin Lake) in Lincoln, Alabama.  Austin told me that he’d been married less than a year and desperately wanted his ring back.  He also dropped his sunglasses in the water.  Austin spent about 2 hours searching for his sunglasses and wedding band.  He was able to find the sunglasses, but unfortunately, came up empty handed on the ring.  He went online for ways to recover it and came across a service he never knew existed…The Ring Finders!

I had the other ring search scheduled for when I got off work that day.  I thought I could leave immediately for Lincoln, AL and help Austin find his ring, then head to Maysville for the second ring search.  I put in a leave request at work and started gathering up my gear.  I arrived in Lincoln around 3pm and met Austin by the water.  I quickly changed into my wetsuit pants and grabbed my detecting gear.  Austin showed me where he was wading through the water, where his boat was parked, and where he found his sunglasses.  He said that he never saw or felt the ring come off his finger, but he noticed it was missing within 30 minutes after his boat ride.

I started a north/south grid search in the area Austin found his sunglasses at.  I then expanded my grid to where he walked towards the dock and then the other side by where his boat was parked.  Unfortunately, I only found some trash, fishing sinkers, and a nickel.  I then worked an east/west grid making sure I covered the entire area really well.  I asked Austin questions on whether he shook his hands, threw anything, etc.  Austin said no and that I had pretty much covered all the spots he was at.

I decided to continue searching towards the shoreline just in case Austin’s recollection was slightly off.  Within a few minutes I got a screaming signal in the gold range about 20 feet from the original search area.  I took one scoop and had a ring in my basket!  I told Austin that I got it.  He said, “NO WAY!!!”  With a big smile I replied, “there’s a yellow gold ring in my scoop!”  I picked it up and asked him if there was an inscription.  Austin quickly said, “all my love”.  This was it!  Austin couldn’t believe it, because he said he didn’t walk over that far.  I’ve had a couple of searches that turned out this way.  Just another great learning experience to remember– always keep expanding the grid!

I walked over to the dock where Austin was standing and handed him his wedding band.  He said that he thought he’d never see it again and this was the best thing ever!  I’m so happy that he has his ring back and it was honestly found at the last minute where it shouldn’t have been.  Thank you, God, for another successful recovery!  I’m so proud to be a member of Chris Turner’s online directory of metal detecting specialists, The Ring Finders!  Write-up of search #2 to follow…

Platinum & Diamond ring found

A Metal detector rental success :  Got a call from a gentleman who had innocently tossed liquid (melted ice)  into a planter box.  Out of a cup, into an area of vegetation, at a roadside rest along the highway.   As he made the throwing motion, he felt his ring launch off .  Into the dark, somewhere into the foilage.

 

Despite a long search, with flashlights, on his knees, he could not locate the ring.  He saw the metal detector service for hire “Ringfinders” and gave me a call.   We met the following morning.  Took an hour, but we found it.  It had apparently slid under a bush, hidden from view.

 

This retails for $10,000 he says.   Several big diamonds in a hefty base of platinum .   Glad I was able to help you !

Gold bracelet recovered from Hove beach

I got a call yesterday morning from Barry , who explained his wife had lost her gold bracelet which also contained a ruby and two diamonds , the bracelet had slipped from her wrist whilst cold water swimming at a Hove beach , which was about a mile from where I was detecting, Barry sent me a map of the area the loss occurred , and within 20 minutes of detecting I had successfully recovered his wife’s bracelet, I was able to reunite the very grateful owner with her precious and very sentimental bracelet about half an hour later , another successful recovery only made possible by ring finders .com

Silver Promise Found on Holden Beach, NC

I got a call from Aaron saying that Joe Denton had referred me to help find a lost silver promise ring. The story went that his girlfriend Olivia had tried to pass the promise ring to a friend to hold for safe keeping. Unfortunately, Olivia was standing in a trough that was about 5 feet deep while the friend was standing on top of the ridge. The handoff missed and the ring sank to the bottom of the ocean buried in sand and shells. At first I told Aaron I’d be there closer to low tide, which was about 3 hours later. After thinking about it, I called Aaron back and said I was on my way. I was hoping that by getting there early, I could work the outgoing tide and maybe come across the ring.

When I got there I met Aaron and Olivia in the parking lot. As we walked out to the beach, Aaron said that he had made a sand mound to mark the spot Olivia went into the water. As we got closer to the spot, the mound was gone. Where the spot was now 2 kids playing and unknowingly destroyed the mound. There was just enough of the mound left that Aaron was sure we were in the right spot. Not knowing what I’d be up against, I brought both my White’s PI and my Equinox 800. I grabbed the PI and headed out in the water to find the trough. About the same time I found the trough, I got smacked by a pretty good wave that soaked me and just about knocked me over. New plan, I grabbed my 800 and started working the slope and parallel with the beach. Aaron said they were going to go eat dinner and I assured them if I found it I’d give them a call. After about 20 minutes, I grabbed the PI again and started working the tide line seaward. The waves were still breaking with force, plus the current was stronger than I willing to fight with. I moved south to start a wider search and Boom!!! I hit a great signal, but with the PI it could be anything. I dug the target out, walk up the beach and dumped the scoop out. Ran the coil over the area and found the target again, pushed the smaller amount of sand in the scoop with my foot and shook it out in the surf. There it was, Olivia’s beautiful promise ring staring up at me. I called Aaron and he asked if I found it. I told him that I thought so and was sending him a picture. Bingo, he said it was Olivia’s. I told them I’d meet them at the restaurant they were at and drop it off. When I got there they were both waiting in the parking lot with huge smiles on their faces.

Grandfather gift a gold chain found on the Bavaro beach

This was a challenge to find a lost gold chain on the Bavaro Beach, Punta Cana. Because they called me in the evening at about 4 o’clock. Half an hour later I was there, and – good luck, in the evening the gold chain was found. Look at the happy face of a young man, because this is a very valuable thing for him – a grandfather gift!

Pero en este caso – me llamaron en la tarde, horas antes de anocheser. Llegue en mediahora – y – gran suerte- encontro la cadena de oro en la playa de Republica Dominicana – joven que me llamo quedo muy feliz – era regalo de su abuelo y estaba muy triste por perderlo en agua.

Lost Silver High School Ring at Ulua Lagoon Ko Olina Resort…FOUND!!!

This ring find began last Saturday while hunting in Ulua Lagoon. I found a Silver High School ring at the low tide mark of the lagoon. It was a screaming high tone on the Nox and I was able to recover it on the first scoop. I could see it was engraved but had to use my loop to see the full name. Fortunately, I was able to find Syann on Facebook so I left her a message. After a few hours with no response my daughter Jodi found her on Instagram. She IG’d Syann and she responded immediately. She told us she had lost the ring back in March while enjoying the day at the lagoon but wasn’t exactly sure where on the beach and wrote it off as gone. I got her address and mailed the ring to her in Kapolei. She now has the ring back on her finger. Precious ring returned and Syann was so thankful. Aloha to Syann!

iPhone Lost in the Dry Sand, Found and Returned North Myrtle Beach, SC

I got a call this morning from Sarah saying that she had contacted Joe Denton, Minelab Distributer in Little River, SC to buy a metal detector to find an iPhone. Joe recommended me and she was wondering if I could help. She said her friend Shelby had lost her phone in the dunes and they knew the exact area using the “find my phone” app. I told her I’d be there in 15 minutes.

When I got to the Cherry Grove Beach, Shelby and Sarah were waiting at the beach entrance. We walked out on the beach and directly to the area where the iPhone was lost. The story was that they were on the beach the night before and Shelby’s phone fell out of its “safe place” and disappeared in the sand. They searched in the dark with no luck and started again first thing this morning. Unfortunately, the phone was lost in the dunes, which can get you a nice little ticket if you get caught by the beach patrol. So, as I detected, I used extreme caution so I wouldn’t cause any damage. There was no doubt that her phone wasn’t there. In my head I thought this would be a quick and easy find, but it never works out that way. I kept expanding my search area north and south but wasn’t finding her phone. Finally, Shelby saw a wrapper she remembered from the night before that she thought was her phone. Sure enough, just a few feet away, buried in an upright position and covered with sand, I got a solid 15 on the VDI. Using my hands to dig under the sand, I pulled it out. Both Shelby and Sarah were thrilled to say the least. After I gave the phone back to her, she immediately opened the case to ensure her driver’s license was still there, thankfully it was.

The recovery that started it all: Lost diamond engagement ring lost in Milpitas, CA…Found!!!

I had seen the call for help go out over one of my many metal detecting groups.  When I offered my assistance I didn’t think I’d have the opportunity and thus went about packing for my Mount Diablo overnight with my boys and some friends.

When another md’ing friend asked if I was still available and that another of our piers had searched but had no luck, I again offered my assistance, packed some gear, and off I went.

The client took me to the 5th floor balcony from which the ring was lost and we observed the location from above.  After moving back down to ground level it was revealed that two rings went over the edge and one had been recovered that night from the planter bed.  Now, knowing that a searcher had previously swung over the area, I knew that if we were going to find it, it was going to be found within one of the many plants and bushes in the planter bed.

I offered the client the opportunity to assist by using a Garret pin-pointer to start probing the area including the foliage.  I did the same, and within 20 minutes or so, an ecstatic client exclaimed, “I’ve found it!”  It was indeed within one of the plants of the planter bed.  The stoke was high on both our parts and he requested “Can I give you a hug?” To which I replied “of course.”

The successful search and recovery sparked really good vibes that carried me throughout the weekend. This would serve as my first search as a member of The Ring Finders team and…we made the recovery!!!

DIAMOND WEDDING RING LOST IN HAMMOND, LA-FOUND

We were packed and ready to head to one ring hunt when the client called and said it had been raining. Since the ring had been lost over a year ago and it was in a grassy field, we decided to delay the hunt. After unloading the equipment, we received a call from Nicole. She had lost her ring in the concrete parking lot in front of her apartment and yes it had rained but was clear now. Carrie and I reloaded the equipment (knowing we probably would not be able to use them) and left for Hammond, a 2 hour drive. Arriving we found a distraught Nicole walking over the parking lot, searching as she did the previous day. Having not felt the ring fall from her hand, the whole parking lot was the search area. With detectors useless we started a visual search. Two hours later Carrie let out a victory scream. Rejoining Nicole and her ring was a great end for our efforts.
