I WANT TO PERSONALLY THANK CELEBRITY ACTOR, JON CRYER, FOR SHARING ON TWITTER, HIS OWN PERSONAL STORY OF HOW “THE RING FINDERS” HELPED HIM FIND HIS MISSING WEDDING BAND! NOW, MANY THOUSANDS AROUND THE WORLD WHO ONCE LOST THEIR SPECIAL RINGS AND KEEPSAKES ARE CONTACTING MEMBERS OF “THE RING FINDERS” LIKE ME! AS A RESULT, THESE PEOPLE ARE BEING SURPRISINGLY AND HAPPILY REUNITED WITH THEIR SENTIMENTAL JEWELRY FOR THE FIRST TIME IN YEARS!

Jenny is now one of many people around the world who have been personally affected by the recent Twitter feed of celebrity actor, Jon Cryer. Miraculously, he was able to recover his cherished wedding ring that was lost during his day off of work from filming the TV series ‘Supergirl’ on location in Vancouver, Canada. Cryer is recognized for his well-known acting roles, including the highly successful sitcom show ‘Two and a Half Men’ that ran for 12 seasons from 2003 to 2015, as well as the ever famous 1980’s classic movie, ‘Pretty in Pink’. Because so many around the globe have chimed in to Cryer’s Twitter story and are finding their lost treasures (thanks to the help of THE RING FINDERS), this amazing outcome has now been officially titled, “The Jon Cryer Effect”!

Coincidentally, as I was wrapping up a successful search in Alexandria, Virginia (which came together due to Cryer’s recent tweet), I received a call from a young lady named Jenny who was yet another Twitter follower of the famous actor Jon Cryer who shared on Twitter how THE RING FINDER’S CEO, Chris Turner, found his wedding band! She, like many others, thought that maybe she could reach out to a member of the elite metal detecting directory in Washington DC and hoped that perhaps maybe I could find her lost engagement ring that had been missing for just over a year! As I was packing up my gear, I listened to Jenny’s voicemail message and immediately called her back to gain more information about her particular situation.

THE BACKSTORY

Jenny shared with me that one year ago she was taking a walk through the woods of Glover Park, located in Washington DC near the National Cathedral, when all of a sudden she was attacked by dozens and dozens of hornets! She believed that she had stepped right into a nest whereby the angry critters viciously attacked her over and over again! She was left with over 25 hornets stings all over her body. She tried to get away from the attackers by running down a hill and into a clearing where she constantly swatted and batted them with her hands as she desperately attempted to fight them off! In the process of defending herself from those demonic insects, Jenny’s eyeglasses fell to the ground where she eventually stepped on them, causing the lenses to break into pieces. At that point she could barely see clearly, causing her to be quite disoriented. Unfortunately, the worst was yet to come! In the thick of the battle, while fighting off those flying beasts, the tortured woman felt her very heavy yellow gold, 1.75 carat diamond engagement ring fly off her finger! Though she was completely overwhelmed by what she was facing with her attackers, she somehow tried to search around for her missing keepsake. However, because she was hurt so very badly by so many stings, at some point she needed to leave the forest in order to receive medical attention at the nearby hospital. It was a terrible dilemma because she knew that she needed to get help for her hornet stings and yet she didn’t want to leave her most precious jewel somewhere out there in the woods where someone walking by may have the chance to spot the ring and walk off with it.

Once Jenny got help for herself and she was able to return back to the location where she lost her ring, she and her husband searched the woods the very next day but they still couldn’t find the solid gold betrothal piece anywhere. She first rented a metal detector but nothing turned up at the search site. Then, once she finally returned the rented machine, she was fortunate enough to borrow one of her children’s teacher’s metal detectors. Jenny and her family continued to make the trek back to the “scene of the crime”, hoping that something would turn up, but even those attempts ended up with empty hands. Hours of searching turned into days, and days eventually turned into weeks and months. Still, nobody could find her beautiful gold diamond engagement ring anywhere. It was as if it disappeared into thin air. They did everything possible at the time to hopefully find the missing ring. They used rakes to work through the many leaves that had fallen during that fall season of 2019, and over and over again the search team meandered through the wooded area, looking under and around the many tree limbs and logs that were scattered about the search site. Of course, there was a chance that somebody had already found the treasured item. Jenny and family realized that if the jewel landed somewhere along the path that was perpendicular to the trail that went down the hill where Jenny was attacked by the hornets, it was quite possible that at some point during the next few days following her horrible incident, somebody could have picked it up before the autumn leaves covered over the priceless ring. Even with their worst fears, Jenny and her husband reported the missing ring to the park ranger, hoping that if someone picked up the ring, it would be turned in and eventually reclaimed. She estimated that over the next year, 100 plus hours had been invested in all of her search efforts which included over 30 hours of metal detecting, and plenty of assistance from her husband, children and friends! Again, nothing ever turned up.

THE SEARCH

Jenny was absolutely devastated by the loss of something so special as this. However, she was a determined woman who never gave up hope that perhaps the ring was still out there somewhere, buried under downed trees or lost in the high grass and bramble. Finally, a beacon of hope was spotted on Jenny’s smartphone as she read actor Jon Cryer’s Twitter feed about the successful recovery of his own beloved wedding band! She went online to THE RING FINDER’S website and reviewed my profile listed under the Washington DC metropolitan area. Little did Jenny know that I had just discovered two other lost rings that had gone missing for 3 years and 1 year for people just like her who also read Jon Cryer’s Twitter feed and contacted me in the days that followed, asking if I could help them find their rings! I couldn’t wait to set up a time for me to travel out to the Washington DC forest to make a search attempt to recover Jenny’s lost gold diamond engagement ring!

While Jenny and I were talking on the phone, I asked her question after question regarding everything that transpired leading up to the ring flying off of her finger out in the forest. From what she described, I felt very confident that there was a strong possibility that nobody spotted the ring with the amount of “distracting nature” that surrounded that particular area. She mentioned that there was quite a bit of bramble and fallen trees that had rested in the location where she was once under attack by those vicious hornets. Also, she said that she lost the ring in October 2019 during the same autumn season exactly one year ago. That information gave me hope that the ring could still be out there because it could have easily been camouflaged by the golden colors of the leaves that had fallen from the trees above, causing her engagement ring to blend in perfectly with its surroundings.

Yes, there was plenty of metal detecting at the site, but in my mind, it didn’t mean that the gold ring hadn’t been missed. In my many experiences with other people using detectors that are made of cheap quality electronics and having lack of experience, those search attempts generally end up being futile, giving up no positive results. I remember telling Jenny on the phone how excited I was to hear that there was plenty of thorn bushes and overgrown weeds and trees that had fallen down all around that area. She couldn’t figure out why I was so encouraged by her description of that forsaken territory where her nightmare took place! I reiterated my positive thoughts about her description of the site by explaining that it gave more opportunities for the ring to hide as opposed to having only one or two scenarios as to where the jewel could have ended up (such as it being left on the path for somebody to pick up). Though Jenny was still in a mode of doubting the possibility that I may be the one to recover her lost keepsake, she was nonetheless enthusiastic for giving me a shot at finding her precious ring that she had missed so much.

I finished our second conversation that same night by encouraging Jenny with several search and recovery stories that had to do with me finding people’s rings that had gone missing for years. Jewelry that had been out there for the longest time, buried in the ground or hidden in a vehicle or house, just waiting to be found by me! Before we got off the phone, we tentatively set up a time to meet in three days on a Saturday afternoon. I told her I couldn’t wait to get out there into the woods and help her find the  lost engagement ring that she cherished so very much! Jenny didn’t know what to say to that declaration because so many hours had already gone into the search and every time she gave it her all, she came up with nothing. I told her if that ring was never picked up and it was still out there somewhere, I told her that I would indeed find it for her…guaranteed!

For the next three days, I couldn’t wait to meet up with Jenny in order for her to take me into the woods and show me where all of the drama took place a year ago this October. I pictured the ring buried somewhere out there, just waiting for me to come and return it to the finger that it still belonged to! She and her two dogs met me at one of the entrances to Glover Park located in Washington DC not too far from the National Cathedral. Jenny, who is very familiar with the paths and trails throughout the park (it was routine for her to walk her retrievers in that area quite frequently), led the way into the woods and down into the forest where she lost her ring on that one dreadful afternoon. As we walked to the spot, she gave me more details about that particular day and just how much effort she had invested in trying to find her beloved engagement ring.

After a good 5 or 10 minutes of walking over rocks, downed trees and across muddy spots, we eventually got to the top of a hill where Jenny was steps away from being attacked by those ruthless hornets. Her dogs led the way as she guided me down the slope, eventually stopping at the bottom where it started to level out. Another path could be seen to the left and right of us and I immediately wondered how busy this particular trail had been traveled. Jenny stood close to the intersection of the two paths and recounted what happened next. She showed me how she was swatting the insects profusely, trying with all of her might to get them off of her. She demonstrated for me just how she was standing and brought attention to the angle of how she was positioned when she tried to fight off her attackers. Jenny believed her left arm went forward and that the ring most likely went into the woods in front of her, towards some very large trees that had fallen many years prior. There was a gigantic tree trunk with its roots still intact, along with all kinds of huge branches, tree limbs, high grass, weeds and plenty of bramble growing wild everywhere. Just as she described to me on the phone days before, there was plenty of obstacles and area to search! The ring could have still been hiding just about anywhere! She actually ended up apologizing to me for such a complicated search site to have to investigate! I told her, “Please, there is no need to apologize because I am more encouraged about having this kind of environment as opposed to being in a public area where anyone could have easily spotted the ring on the day that it flew off your finger!”

Next, I asked Jenny to give me an account of all of the spots where her crew had metal detected so that I could have an idea of what pieces of real estate were already covered in the past year. She pointed out those locations, but I noticed that she didn’t mention the property behind where she was standing. I pointed to the hillside where we came down and over to the right another 30 to 75 feet, and asked her if anyone searched behind the section that she thought the ring had flown towards. Her response was that they had barely looked in those areas because she had believed that the ring had flown forward into where the trees and bramble rested based on how her arm moved forward during the brutal attack. I took close attention to those facts.

Once we covered all of the details regarding where she felt the ring flew and all the places that she, her family and friends searched over the past year, I was ready to return back to my car to gather up my gear and return to the search site to begin my recovery project. Jenny was kind enough to orient me to a closer entrance point which would help me pull my equipment wagon down into the woods where my travels to the site would be much faster than where we originally entered. She took some of my orange grid cones and placed them in key positions where I would be able to find my way out of the woods and back to my car once I finished the first leg of my search that day. We didn’t know how many trips it would take for me to wrap up the project because there was so much territory to cover. However, it was clear that I needed to have a way of identifying markers in order for me to make my way out of the park and back to my vehicle.

Jenny guided me back to the search site, showing me a little stream with lots of rocks and mud that I would need to cross over, and then eventually she pointed me to the largest landmark at the “scene of the crime” – that huge tree that was lying on its side just in front of where Jenny fought for her life last October.

Before she took off to walk the dogs deeper into the forest, I warned Jenny that upon her return to this location, she may end up observing me searching for the engagement ring in an area that most people would consider to be an illogical place to metal detect when searching for a jewel that went flying in an entirely different zone. She appreciated my words but assured me that she was putting what hope she had left into my care, wishful that I would use my expertise and experience to pull her ring from the park!

As she headed off with the dogs, I started setting up my gear for what I anticipated to be a very long and possibly difficult search project. Like I mentioned above, there was no way of telling whether or not the ring had already been picked up by somebody or not. All that I could do was to give it my all and hope for the best. Before I began setting grid cones up in a certain area on the hill side where she had originally ran down just after being attacked by the hornets, I prayed to the Lord and asked my beloved Creator to help me and guide me in the search efforts. I asked my Heavenly Father to give me wisdom and guidance in finding the hiding place where the ring had ended up, believing that it was still somewhere out there. Then, I put my metal detecting harness over my jacket, placed the headphones over my ears and finally started grid searching inside of the area where I placed the cones up and around a portion of the hill.

Generally, when one is metal detecting an area way out in the woods, there is very little metal that you will encounter in the ground. This scenario was no different. However, there were a few targets that I dug up because the metal detector was picking up a few shallow targets that were just below the ground. I knew that if the ring was still there on that property, it would be just slightly below the dirt and leaves with just a little bit of the halo showing up above the ground. It turned out that there was absolutely no ring to be discovered in the first section that I marked off with my orange cones.

By the time I finished grid searching that first area, Jenny had returned with her precious retrievers just to check on how things were going and to let me know that she was heading back to her place. I quickly showed her what I completed at that point and pointed to the area that was going to be surrounded by cones for my next grid search. Eventually Jenny left and I remained there at the site, continuing my efforts to reclaim my client’s lost beloved ring. Though there was so much pain, drama and sadness that took place in this region of the park, I still couldn’t help myself appreciate the surroundings which were absolutely beautiful that autumn day.

I would continue to work on the hillside, adjacent to where I had just finished the first section. Moving to the other side of the trail where she quickly ran down the slope as she was being attacked by the hornets, my aim was to hit that spot next. I set the cones up around that that territory and was then ready to begin that second phase of the search. For some unexplainable reason (which I now believe was true divine guidance by the Spirit of the Lord in answer to my earlier prayer), I began to just randomly metal detect the area that Jenny had pointed out where she and the others predominantly searched over the past year. I wasn’t thinking that I would necessarily find the ring, but I was just curious as to what I would discover and get an idea of how much metal was in the ground in the environment where all of the downed trees, high grass and bramble predominantly congregated around. I casually swung the detector in that particular zone and then slowly moved my way around and back towards the path that crossed the trail that goes up the hill. There was no ring to be found in any of those spots that I casually swung the coil over. One habit that I seem to typically implement while I am detecting an area is to keep swinging my detector over real estate until I get to the section that I intend to grid search next, just in case I come across something of interest along the way. This moment was no different. I crossed the path that divided the main section of where she had been searching for the past year over to the hillside section that would have been where her back was facing during the hornet attack. I didn’t get more than 6 feet off the path, moving up the slight incline (probably 8 to 10 feet over to my right which would take me towards the coned off area that I was about to grid) when I hit a pretty significant target signal that appeared to be buried just below the surface. Because the ground was covered with the most beautiful colors from the autumn season, I wasn’t able to observe whether or not this target was partially resting above the ground. However, I was about to find out! The VDI number (visual discrimination indicator) that appeared on my detector screen came up as a solid 18. First of all, that number is not a common number that comes up on my detector. Usually I find items made of lead that come into that range of 17 or 18. Therefore, this solid 18 number got me really curious. A typical lady’s yellow gold engagement ring would never register such a high number. In fact, I was only told that the target that I was looking for was a yellow gold solitaire diamond ring with the stone set into the band. I didn’t think much about the weight because usually lady’s rings aren’t designed with a bulk of extra gold. Most of the time I find that a lady’s yellow gold ring will fall into the VDI number range between 8 and13.

With this current target that I was about to investigate, I honestly was not thinking that I had found Jenny’s ring by any means. However, I am always hopeful in every situation because I have seen so many miracle stories take place with many of my searches. With this target signal, I was not going to discount that same possibility, as well. I got down on my knees to the ground and pulled out my handheld metal detector which helps to pinpoint the exact location of where the other metal detector had discovered the target. I waved it over the ground in the spot where the detector picked up the curious object and almost immediately I located the exact spot where the item was buried. Slowly, I used my left hand to start removing some of the surface dirt to see if I could make out exactly what the target was before having to use my digger to go farther down if necessary. Instantly my eyes caught the most beautiful image of something gold in color that was resting just below some brittle leaves and topsoil and on that hillside. I could not believe what I was looking at! Only a part of the object was protruding through the ground, but I knew very well that what I was going to pull from the earth in a moment’s time just had to be Jenny’s missing diamond engagement ring! There was no way that another piece of precious metal would have been lost in the same vicinity as the ring that I was on the hunt for! This had to be Jenny’s jewel! It was an unbelievable moment for me! I was only walking in the direction of where I was about to start my second grid search when I hit this home run! I couldn’t believe it! It was absolutely amazing! The cones were already in place for me to begin my grid lines and yet I never even made it over to that second zone! Why? Because I believe I was divinely guided by the hand to the very spot where Jenny’s beloved keepsake had landed and remained hidden for over a year! The ring was discovered 27 feet from where Jenny remembered feeling her priceless gem slipping off her finger! The keepsake flew from across Jenny’s left side, over her head and moved airborne in the direction behind her to the right on a 45 degree angle (4 o’clock position), slightly up the hill!

Once I Removed Some Top Soil and Leaves, This is What My Eyes Encountered!

I was now looking at a huge piece of gold exposed in front of my eyes! The rest of the ring was perhaps buried maybe a half-inch in the ground! Jenny had mentioned twice to me that she had searched for over 100 hours and even came back to the search site after the two of us talked on the phone the other day! So much time was invested in trying to find her precious ring, and yet nothing became of all of her efforts…until now! Her best decision was to contact THE RING FINDERS! The ring that she had attempted to recover in an entire year of searching, I was able to successfully find in 20 minutes! Though I would have eventually grid searched the spot where I stumbled upon that most priceless piece of artwork, the fact that I found the treasure so quickly and incidentally was beyond a surreal moment for me!

The moment was too amazing to believe that it was really happening! Yet, it really was a reality! I really did find Jenny’s beautiful solid gold diamond engagement ring! I was so excited that I actually fell to the ground and laid there on my back like a little kid with my feet and hands up towards the top of the trees! I couldn’t contain myself! I just took in the moment, thanking God over and over again and saying out loud, “I can’t believe that this is really happening that I actually found the diamond engagement ring and how quickly I discovered it!” When you know that somebody has been searching for something for over a year with metal detectors and with numerous people added to the hunt, you can anticipate searches like this to be a bit more complicated than some of the more simple scenarios that we ring finders have had to tackle. I loved the challenge of this particular case, but I had no idea that I would end up finding Jenny’s ring this quick and so easily!

I didn’t even pull the ring out of the ground before I walked 40 feet back to my equipment wagon, pulled out a white rag, placed onto the ground in front of me and worshipped the Lord down on my knees! Jenny would finally get this priceless and most sentimental piece of jewelry back on her finger soon enough! I knew that this was one more miracle story to be added to all of my others that I had experienced over the past couple of years! I wanted to give God the glory and thank Him before I held that ring in my hands for the first time!

The Engagement Ring Flew 27 Feet Behind Jenny During Her Horrible Hornet Attack!

As I was still on my knees, a gentleman who was walking his dog on the trail just feet from where I had found the ring, stopped and inquired about what was going on and what I was doing. His name was Lindsay. I explained to him that I was worshiping the Lord because I found something very special that belonged to someone and I couldn’t believe that I had found it so quickly! I explained that it was a ring that had gone missing for over a year! He was quite intrigued and asked if he could see the treasure that I pulled from the earth. I was more than thrilled to share my excitement with him! It was at that moment that I returned to the diamond ring that was still waiting for me to raise her up from the ground! Slowly and carefully I separated the piece of gold from the earth, exposing the most humongous diamond that was embedded into the actual band of the gold ring! It was simply exquisite! There were two accent lines of white gold that were wrapped around each of the sides of the ring and the artwork on this beautiful object was simply stunning! The weight of this jewel was extremely heavy for a lady’s ring, very non-characteristic of a lady’s engagement ring! It was a very special ring that was obviously custom-made in every which way. I would later find out that the ring was designed based on the need to have a diamond that would not rub or bump into things while the owner physically worked out and while regularly teaching yoga classes.

Lindsay was so taken back by the whole story of what I had searched for and so quickly discovered, that he asked if he could bring his entire family over to the site so that they too could witness the cool event!  I welcomed their visit and I told him that in the meantime I would be continuing my time of worship onto the Lord and then begin taking pictures of this incredible moment! He left and I returned to my white towel that was still laid out on top of the leaves near my wagon and I just continued to thank God for everything! The gratitude in my heart was overwhelming! I thought that I would most likely have to come back for consecutive visits to complete the search and hopefully find the ring in that process of time. I never thought in a million years that I would end up finding the engagement ring in such a short period of time! Once I finished my moment with God, I returned back to where the ring was found and documented the entire event with my still camera and video equipment.

By the time I wrapped up my photo session, my new friend’s family arrived at the search site and I got to share with them the whole search story from beginning to end! They were the nicest people! I could see it in the kids’ eyes just how intrigued they were to witness something as fantastic as this with me finding buried treasure out there in the middle of the forest! When you see something made of solid gold with a huge diamond set inside the precious metal, just lying on the ground where it should have never been lost, it’s pretty powerful to experience such a moment! This is what makes ring finders and metal detectorists like me so energized and beyond thrilled when we find someone else’s lost property in places such as this!

At some point, before the family headed off, they thanked me for sharing this special celebration with all of them. We said our goodbyes and though I took enough photos and video earlier, I decided to document a few more moments before it started getting darker outside.

Eventually, I began packing my things up. While I was still in the forest, there wasn’t a moment that I wasn’t still floating on cloud nine! I constantly thanked God and felt so grateful that I discovered the ring where I had found it and just how fast it was recovered! As I was collecting all of the cones that I had set up in that second zone where I had intended to start grid searching, I thought to myself just how innocent I was, metal detecting randomly in that first area where Jenny said that they had been looking for so very long. I recounted how I crossed over the trail and began making my way back towards the cones and how I just happened to stumble over the ring as I made my way to start the second zone! I could have just begun the grid search on that other part of the hill, but it never had to take place! Yes, as I shared before, I would have eventually found the ring because the area where it ended up was at some point going to be the third section that I planned to hunt. But, boy did I save a lot of time and energy! Oh yes! I could not have been more surprised!

Once I packed everything up in my blue wagon, I said goodbye to this very special search site that was a witness to Jenny’s attack and the loss of her precious ring during the October before this one. But now it became a beautiful place now that the earth gave up something that only belonged to Jenny and nobody else! I was so proud to be a part of such a search and recovery project and to be the one to eventually return the most beautiful and sentimental keepsake to its rightful owner. Returned to one who had been yearning for a reunion with this sentimental keepsake for so very long! Finally, this huge piece of gold with its amazingly large diamond was leaving the forest since October 2019!

It was a moment that I will never forget, the evening that I surprised Jenny and one of her children (who happened to be home at the time of the ring reveal)! She was absolutely stunned! So much so that she admittedly shared with me that she thought that the ring that I had surprised her with couldn’t possibly be hers! Why? Because I was able to find the keepsake so very quickly as opposed to all of the search attempts that she had made that added up to well over 100 hours and each one miserably failed! She thought, ‘How could this be?’ But she then eventually came around to realizing that there was no way that I could have produced a copy of such an incredible engagement ring because I had never seen a picture of what it looked like in the first place! Jenny was completely in a daze when I handed her that ring! The realization that it was finally back in her possession after all this time was something that she couldn’t fully describe with words! The same jewel that was placed upon Jenny’s finger by her beloved groom on the day of their marriage, was now back on that same ring finger, never to get away from this bride ever again for the rest of her life! During that reunion moment, you could easily see what was going on inside of that stunned young lady! Emotions of pure happiness were dancing within every chamber of her heart! Part two of Jenny’s horrible nightmare that took place one year ago this month had finally come to an end…her lost engagement ring had finally come home to her!

Found! Very special three part ring from the water at Orange Beach, Alabama

  • from Orange Beach (Alabama, United States)

This super nice couple came to Orange Beach from Atlanta. They normally vacationed in Panama City but damage from Hurricane Michael changed their plans. The rings were lost while wading about waist deep in the Gulf, but she didn’t know where it was lost for sure. Both she and her Husband were skeptical about someone being able to find a “needle in a haystack”, I assured them I would do my best and I don’t give up. I first searched around where they set their towels to no avail. Next I set flagging so I could accurately search a grid in water. I could tell they were gaining some hope in my ability. Because there were 3 different rings of unknown metallurgy I felt I needed to dig everything. On the first grid line I got a nickel signal, when I set the scoop they lit up with anticipation and unfortunately let down when I showed them the nickel. I think I dug 4 other items and half way through the third grid line I found the “needle”! I looked in the scoop with a big smile on my face and they knew it was recovered. They were all smiles and gratitude. What is so special about this ring set is the ring with the blue gem stones. Her Husband is a Law Enforcement Officer and always on her mind. It made my day that I could help them out. They went home happy with smiles on their faces, and that’s a success story for me!

Lost Men’s Tantalum Wedding Band- Duck– Outer Banks, NC – Found

  • from Ponce Inlet (Florida, United States)

I received a call from Brian early this morning.  I was doing my sunrise walk on the beach, which I do every day.  Brian informed me that he had lost his tantalum wedding ring.  I told him that it would take me about 30 minutes to make it up to Duck.

When I arrived I met Brian.  He told me that he had only gotten married 4 days ago!!  I told him that it’s never a good thing to lose a wedding ring but even worse when it’s in the first week.  I told him that I would do my best.

We headed for the beach and as we crossed the walk-over his wife Sophie was setting on a bench.  When I got down to the sand he indicated what he was doing and where he thought he might have lost the ring.

I fired up the Equinox 800 and on my second sweep…beep.  The detector rang up a solid 20.  I scooped up the ring and gave it to Brian.

What a wonderful couple.  I’m so glad to be able to return the ring to it’s owner!!

Silver and turquoise ring found

  • from Caroline (Alberta, Canada)

Nigel lost his ring, in a bitter mid October cold snap. He was opening the gate to his acreage and flipped the snow off his hand, then felt 2 rings slip off.  He found the smaller one of the 2, but the minus 20 temp and cold hands prevented him to dig through the snow any longer, for the other one.  This did not worry him too much, he knew he could find it in spring, he also knew me.  Nigel knew I am a member of The Ring Finders and has also accompanied me on various metal detecting outings. On Sunday evening Nigel arrived at my house, for coffee,,and mentioned he lost his ring.  I get Mondays off from work and a good old Alberta chinook was starting to blow in, I told Nigel, we will look tomorrow.  Monday afternoon we did a search and found the ring under 6 inches of snow,, took less than 10 minutes. My late Mother and Dad bought this ring for Nigel about 20 years ago, for his 30th birthday.  My parents adopted Nigel when he was 7 months old.

BRIAN RUDOLPH, LOST ITEM RECOVERY SPECIALIST (LAND, WATER, SAND, HOUSES & VEHICLES) WILL FIND YOUR LOST KEEPSAKE! CALL ASAP (301) 466-8644!

Maureen is now one of many people around the world who have been personally affected by the recent Twitter feed of celebrity actor, Jon Cryer.

Ironically, Maureen emailed me while I was searching for another platinum wedding band for a gentleman who also read the Jon Cryer Twitter thread which gave him the idea to reach out to me!

This is what she emailed to me:

“Hi Brian, I just read about The Ring Finders via a Jon Cryer Twitter feed and found your information as the Alexandria, Virginia contact. I actually lost my ring a year ago, but I lost it in my car. I know this sounds strange, but I think it must have rolled into some weird component of the car. I recognize that the metal detector tactic might not work in this scenario, but I figured it was worth a shot. Let me know if you’d be willing to give it a try! Thanks, Maureen”

After I successfully finished my other search, I immediately called Maureen to talk about the details surrounding the need to recover her lost wedding band. As I drove away from the other search site, Maureen began to share what happened on the day that she lost her most priceless platinum wedding band.

THE BACKSTORY

A year ago, she left work, got into her vehicle and drove straight home. She didn’t make any stops whatsoever. At some point during the drive home, she was fiddling around with her rings that were on her left hand ring finger. She believed that the car may have been idle at a light, waiting for it to turn green when her platinum wedding band fell towards the vehicle’s floor because she heard it hit something. Luckily, Maureen’s engagement ring still remained on her finger. She quickly looked around while she was still positioned in the driver seat to see if she could eyeball the ring, but the highly treasured and sentimental item did not come into view. Maureen assumed that as soon as she got home she could simply hop out of her Subaru Outback and be able to locate the ring much easier as she could scan the floor from the outside of the car. That’s exactly what she did. When she parked the vehicle in the garage, Maureen got out and immediately inspected the driver side area, expecting to find the ring. Unfortunately, it was nowhere to be found! It was as if it disappeared into thin air! The young lady checked under the car mat, on and under the seats but all of her attempts to find the ring led to no avail. The whole experience was completely perplexing to her.

Next, she called her husband out to the Outback at some point and he also looked everywhere, but he too could not find the wedding band anywhere! Their only conclusion was that it fell into a small opening or compartment somewhere, perhaps in the dashboard or maybe under the seat in a place where the eye just could not spot it. In any case, they would continue to look over and over again for the next year! Maureen was so convinced that the wedding band was still hiding somewhere in her Subaru, that when the lease ran out on the vehicle six months later, the couple decided to buy the car instead of trading it in! Maureen thought to herself that if she gave up the car, her wedding band would be sacrificed, as well. She didn’t want to see that happen! One of her most important motivations for keeping the vehicle was that she could continue to hold onto the hope that one day her precious wedding band would be discovered.

Though Maureen and her husband continued to search over the next year for the missing ring, it wasn’t until the Jon Cryer Twitter thread emerged that a sense of new hope had arisen for the bride of almost 10 years (coming up on November 1st, 2020, just a couple of weeks away). With the success story that was shared by Cryer regarding how THE RING FINDER’S CEO, Chris Turner, recovered the actor’s wedding band so valiantly, she thought to give THE RING FINDER’S member, Brian Rudolph, a shot at finding her lost wedding band, as well! I couldn’t have been more happy to have been handed such a challenge as we talked extensively about Maureen’s search needs on that cold and rainy October afternoon!

THE SEARCH

Once Maureen had finished sharing her story about the missing wedding band I began to ask her a slew of questions to gain more insight as to what may have possibly happened to her beloved keepsake. I needed to examine all of the clues available in order for me to have a chance at solving the mystery of the disappearing ring! This included: wanting to know who had been in that vehicle for the past year, such as family members, friends, detailers and valet parking attendants. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that she was the only one who predominantly drove the vehicle and that perhaps maybe once in the past year there was a parking attendant in the car, according to what she remembered. The car was never cleaned by anyone but the couple and they ruled out any possibility that the vacuum cleaner may have sucked up the ring!

My biggest question that would remain unanswered for the time being was whether or not the ring had traveled outside of Maureen’s vehicle and onto the garage floor when she was getting out of her seat. This would mean that the wedding band would have had to fall onto her lap first and then drop out onto the garage’s concrete slab once she removed herself from the Outback. I did ask Maureen if they checked the garage and she said that it was searched but not extensively. This was because she was very convinced that the ring had never left the vehicle in the first place and that she remembered hearing the ring hit something when it dropped from between her fingers.

After the two of us covered all of the details and questions that I could conjure up, we scheduled a time for me to come out the following day to see if this metal detecting specialist could crack the case as to where this wedding band had actually ended up! I couldn’t wait to get inside that Subaru Outback!

The next day, I arrived at Maureen and John’s property, ready to tackle this enormous challenge. I happen to love searches like this one! I am not only a metal detectorist, but a metal detecting specialist and item recoverist who searches for lost property, not only on land, but also in: houses, vehicles, sand and water. I love the variety of circumstances by which people end up needing my services to help them find their most precious keepsakes!

When I walked over to the infamous Subaru, Maureen came out to greet me and she asked if I needed anything before she slipped back inside to handle her day’s work. I told her that I was fine and that I would call her if there were any needs. I was hoping that the only call that I would have to make to her would be the one to inform her that I had successfully found her missing wedding band!

The first leg of my search dealt with exploring under all of the vehicle mats and seats. I took out my handy endoscope which can be placed into small crevices and spaces where the human eye cannot visibly explore. It allows me to search all around tight spaces in between seats and inside the machinery of the motorized systems that drive the seats back and forth. This device not only sends a video feed to my smartphone so I can see what’s going on in these places that I search, but it also records the video in order for me to later review what this electronic eye picked up throughout the entire search process. The endoscope has been highly effective in helping me recover other people’s lost rings in the past.

Once I finished searching under both front seats from the front and sides, I opened the rear doors and searched under the front seats from behind. It is so important that you don’t miss a single detail because that one spot that you might have missed could be the very place where the ring was hiding. Obviously, the couple had looked everywhere, so if they missed it, the ring would have most likely ended up somewhere where their eyes could not lock on to it. I eventually concluded that the wedding band was not under the front seats, nor in the seat rails or under the hardware that allows for the seats to slide back and forth. There was no point searching inside the rear seats or children’s car seats since Maureen lost the ring while driving the car. It was now time to start inspecting the dashboard.

I was really hoping that I would find the missing band under the seats, because the moment that I have to start poking around inside the dashboard, things can get rather complicated and time-consuming. Since I previously covered all of the facts with Maureen and she didn’t seem to waiver regarding her memory of what happened on the drive home that day from work and that she seemed pretty confident in what happened, it kept my mind mentally strong, knowing that the ring had to be in the car. Yes, there was the possibility that the Subaru was parked by an attendant at one time or another, but I told Maureen that since she couldn’t spot the ring in plain sight, the ring would not have been so visible to catch the eye of a potential thief either. She agreed with me. Maureen clearly heard the ring land somewhere. Therefore, it also made me confident that it did not fall on her lap which made it highly unlikely that it ended up outside of the vehicle and into the garage. My belief was that the band had remained somewhere inside the Outback.

Searching inside the dashboard is never an easy process. If Maureen’s hands were above the steering wheel at the time that the ring fell, I thought that maybe the band landed on top of the steering column which would have made a “ping” noise. It could have slid down into the narrow crevice of the dashboard and be lost somewhere in the electronics within. I carefully placed my endoscope into that crack along the top side of the column and began to search all of the places that the ring may have fallen into. This included bundles of wires, cables, relays, bolts that kept the plastic dash pieces together, and many other kinds of miscellaneous items that I had to maneuver around.

I can’t tell you how many pieces of metal in a vehicle tend to look like a silver, metallic ring and it really can get you excited, only to find out that what you were looking at was something completely different than what you were seeking after! I spent a very long time moving the camera about, searching for the very petite platinum wedding band that was no larger than a size 3.75 / 4.

After about two hours into my search, I contacted Maureen to let her know that things were moving along and that I was checking out two particular objects that may have some relevance with this mystery that I was trying to solve. I wasn’t sure if either one of these items that I had viewed on the endoscope could possibly be the ring. However, I was going to carefully inspect them to see if maybe the band got wedged into one of these two particular areas where these round targets were stationed.

Maureen came out to the car for a few minutes before she would have to return back inside for a conference call. I showed her what I was seeing with one of the objects using the endoscope and she too thought it could be her wedding band. The only problem was that the outer texture of this “ring” shaped object did not fit the description of a normal looking platinum ring. So, I tried to then show her the second object that I was investigating. Unfortunately, that attempt fell short when I couldn’t maneuver the endoscope to the exact region of where I first spotted the potential target.

Just before Maureen had to leave, I summarized my plan of action in attacking this search head on. First, I would complete my goal to determine whether or not those two potential targets that I was analyzing could be her ring or not. If neither one turned out to be what I was looking for, I would continue searching inside the dashboard. However, the next attempt would involve me placing the endoscope snake into the dash from down below where I pulled a lower instrument panel off to get better access. I told Maureen that there was nothing resting on that access panel which made me conclude that the ring did not drop down to the lower regions of the dashboard. So, this would lead me to inspect the higher spots where the ring may have gotten caught up alongside the steering column but deeper into the dashboard spaces than the zones that I had already searched.

If I still could not find the ring there, I would then have to search the only other area left for me to investigate. I pointed down to the vehicle’s fuel door release lever located on the left side of the driver’s side floor mat, just a few inches from the left door jamb molding. I shared with Maureen that earlier I poked my head down towards the floor and peeked at the lever from a particular angle in order to look down into the housing of that mechanism. I did observe that there was enough room for a small ring to slide down into it and potentially disappear under the housing that would lead to the floor of the vehicle. After checking that out as my last and final search spot by unscrewing the housing and observing the “underworld” of that floor area with the endoscope, I told her that I would have no other options left to consider. The hopeful owner of the Outback thanked me for what I had accomplished thus far and for what I shared with her in regards to the rest of my game plan if my other options didn’t pan out. Maureen then returned to the house to make her Zoom appointment.

For the next 30 minutes or so, I was able to search some more areas up into the dashboard before I too had to pack up and leave to make it to another appointment nearby in McLean, Virginia. I told Maureen that I would return back to her place to resume the search if I didn’t find the ring prior to leaving for my next client. Unfortunately, I was not able to find the wedding band inside the belly of the dashboard, so I resolved to return in a few hours to continue searching some more inside the large instrument panel. I wasn’t frustrated or deterred by not having the results I wanted to see and I wasn’t going to give up until I completed all of my objectives. I packed up my tools and texted Maureen to let her know that I had left her property.

Early that evening, I returned back to Maureen’s Outback to continue with part two of my investigation. It was completely dark outside but I didn’t care in the least. In fact, it’s an advantage to have less light during searches like this one. I called Maureen to let her know that I had arrived and she asked if it was okay for the children to accompany their mom and dad out by the car in order for the rest of the family to meet me. I laughed and said, “Of course!” in addition to asking her why I was such an interesting person to them, knowing that they were somewhere in the age bracket of five and eight years old. Maureen said that they were intrigued with the fact that I had a YouTube channel and they were interested in meeting me knowing that I was attempting a very unique recovery operation of mom’s most precious wedding band. I was quite delighted to soon meet the boys, as well as Maureen’s husband John.

All of us had a delightful time hanging out on the lawn right next to the driveway where the Subaru Outback was still parked. Before I showed the boys how my endoscope operated, I found out that one of them had a birthday just a few days earlier! I asked what his favorite gift was and he proudly ran back into the house and returned with the coolest frisbee! It would glow randomly with different LED colors! Because it was so dark outside, it was really neat looking to watch! I asked a couple of questions directed towards the other brother before I demonstrated some of my technology that helps me find rings for people. This little “pow wow”  also gave me an opportunity to interview John and ask him some questions about what he thought happened to the ring and where he attempted to search for the special item.

Before I returned to searching the vehicle, I shared with everyone that I was not moved in any way by the fact that I had not found the ring as of yet, and I told them that I don’t stop with my recovery efforts until every angle of my investigation has been effectively checked off my list! I then attended to the task at hand, which was to continue searching up into the dashboard once more to make sure that I did not miss anything during my last go around.

I may have searched the dashboard for another 30 minutes before I finally concluded that the ring was definitely not up inside the guts of the dashboard. It seemed clear of any rings so I re-fastened all of the pieces that secured the fuse box and the lower instrument panel that was fastened underneath the steering column.

After I reluctantly re-searched between the seat rails and under the hardware that powers the front seats to again find no platinum jewelry, it was at that point that I was hoping that my last search spot would expose the missing ring. Knowing the odds of this, I knew that the chances were very, very slim indeed. I threw my “hail Mary pass” in the direction of the fuel door release lever which I had pointed out to Maureen earlier in the day. I only had that one location left to check before I would have to call it quits.

I can’t count how many times my searches come down to the “final play of the game” so to speak! When I have exhausted almost all other possibilities left on the board, and I just about run out of all “real estate” to metal detect or search inside a house or vehicle (like in this particular case), sometimes I receive the breakthrough that I had been looking for for so very long! That was in fact what was about to happen once again!

I Remove the Fuel Door Release Lever Housing to Inspect Below

The whole time that I was inside the Subaru that evening, I was using my high lumens headlamp to illuminate certain areas in the vehicle while I placed my endoscope in position. I would then turn off the light in order to see the video feed better on my smartphone screen. Then, once I finished searching the dashboard and car seats for the last time, I needed the light to highlight the area that I would be searching next. So I aimed the beams down towards the fuel door release lever located on the floor, which is positioned to the left front side of the driver’s seat. I pulled the little plastic cover off of the top of the fuel door lever housing in order to expose the type of screw that was keeping the housing in place. Then, I took out my Phillips screwdriver from my toolkit and began to loosen the screw which kept the plastic piece fastened to the floor. Next, I carefully maneuvered the housing in different directions until I figured out how to remove it over the release lever mechanism that remained in place. With my headlamp on the highest lumen setting, I looked down into the exposed opening which was reinforced with some type of metal mounting bracket, attempting to view any round pieces of metal that may be visible before I would have to power up my faithful endoscope one last time.

The Endoscope is Placed Down Into the Center of a Metal Mounting Bracket Which Leads Under the Carpet

Just like the first time I checked, I couldn’t see any objects hidden in that small space that I was so limited to view. I then recalibrated the endoscope and placed the end of the snake into the center of a small open space that led down into the flooring of the vehicle. First, I placed it to my left, into the flooring, but it was completely clear of any metal debris or objects. Secondly, I turned the endoscope towards the other direction and followed it over to the right side of the opening underneath the carpet and through the metal reinforcement bracket. I kept looking at my smartphone screen which is paired with the endoscope lens, hoping to see something that may resemble a ring. Again, this would be my final opportunity to successfully recover the missing ring inside the vehicle because I had run out of all other options.

The Endoscope’s First Image of the Suspected Ring Find!

Seeing This Image Being Broadcasted from the Endoscope to my Smartphone, I Knew I Had Found Maureen’s Missing Platinum Wedding Band!

Just as I moved the snake back and forth on that right side of the opening, suddenly my eyes locked onto an object that appeared on the screen that resembled a thin small washer or possibly even a ring! I moved the endoscope closer and closer to the object, trying to keep it in view because it kept moving out of frame. However, once I stabilized the lens of the endoscope on a certain angle, roughly about 2 inches or so away from the mounting bracket opening, I was finally able to view most of what that particular object happened to be. I couldn’t believe what I was looking at! Without question, it was a ring! I had found Maureen’s wedding band! Even for someone like myself who finds rings for people all the time and sometimes in the craziest places, I was still experiencing a moment of utter disbelief! There it was! For over a year, the ring had been literally sitting under Maureen’s feet the entire time! Every time she pumped gas into her vehicle, her ring finger that had yearned to hold that priceless band once again, would pull the lever to open the fuel door which was literally a couple of inches away from where the ring had rested over this entire time! Unbelievable! My face lit up like a firecracker, displaying the biggest smile as I was hunched over towards the floor with half of my body hanging outside of the vehicle! I had the happiest feeling of excitement knowing that soon enough, Maureen was going to be wearing this wedding band once again! She was correct all along! The wedding band had never left the vehicle! Maureen’s account of her hearing the ring land on the floor of the car was also 100% correct! There was only one place on the floor that could have helped to make a “ping” sound like what she heard and that was when the ring hit the fuel door lever’s plastic housing! The odds that it would fall right into that housing and then drop farther down into the open gap which led into the flooring area was astronomical! It would require one perfect shot to fall into there and be lost under the carpet! Any other drop would have caused the ring to end up falling on top of the carpet and it would not have been heard, let alone ever be lost! This is why the ring disappeared into thin air…or so she thought! I was totally blown away by this discovery! I just had to laugh out loud, though quietly because I didn’t want to give up the surprise that I was about to spring on Maureen! It was at that moment that I was filled with so much gratitude to my Lord who I prayed to earlier, asking for guidance and wisdom in order to recover this lost property for her, which I knew had meant so much to Maureen! She and her husband also prayed that I would find success during my search for the missing wedding band! The Lord clearly answered! Because my knees were still resting upon the concrete driveway, I was in the perfect position to worship God, thanking Him for helping me find this lovely platinum wedding ring in the most unlikely of hiding places! It was a location where the jewel had resided for the past 12 months! And to think that the couple considered trading in the vehicle six months earlier! The ring would have never been recovered and Maureen would have never had the chance to wear it on her finger ever again! Ultimately, they would have left the band buried under the carpet for the rest of its life on the road until finally it would reach the “bone yard” to be scrapped! A terrible thought!

What a Beautiful Sight Indeed! I Was Even Able to Perfectly Read the Couple’s Wedding Date Inscribed Inside the Band!

The Very First Moment that I Recovered the Ring from Below!

My search for the missing ring had come to a successful end! Next, it was all about the reveal of this most precious keepsake! Maureen and her family were all absolutely blown away by the surprise that I laid before them that night! I don’t think anybody in that family, including myself, will ever forget that moment of excitement and celebration! The whole moment was completely surreal for everybody, including myself! I love what I do for people, and I certainly was grateful for the opportunity that was handed to me to attempt a successful search and recovery of this ring! This precious object was part of Maureen’s and John’s love story from the very beginning of their marriage and now it would stay with them for the rest of their lives together! I was so happy to be a part of the continuation of such a story!

Had it not been for the Jon Cryer tweet, Maureen may have never known about THE RING FINDERS, or about me and what I could provide for her in helping to recover the band. The roadmap to this ring recovery was nothing short of a happy-go-lucky story with a very happy ending! It started with Maureen reading Jon Cryer’s Twitter tweet about THE RING FINDER’S Chris Turner who found the actor’s beloved wedding band in Canada (almost 3,000 miles away from Alexandria, VA)! Then, an email is sent to me requesting my help in finding Maureen’s own ring, we talk on the phone to discuss the story of how the ring was lost, I examine all of the clues and tips, I ask my client endless questions and interview her once more upon my arrival at the search site. Then, I begin the “investigation” in the vehicle for Maureen’s beloved keepsake, and eventually after searching every possible place where the band could have possibly ended up, I successfully recover Maureen’s lost ring that had been missing for over a year in her car! WHAT AN AMAZING STORY! This is certainly one search that I will absolutely never forget, and its one ring that I feel pretty confident will never ever go missing again!

Lost earring in Highland: Found

Stephanie spent the afternoon playing ultimate frisbee in a park with her family. After they returned home, she discovered that one of her favorite earrings was missing. The next day, I spent an hour and a half with my metal detector, covering the large area where they had been playing. The weather had changed overnight, and it was cold, with snow and a 20 mph wind. Near the far end zone, I found the missing earring! I’m happy to help anyone that has lost a precious item, but I was especially happy to help Stephanie, because she is my daughter!

Lost Rose Gold Cartier Bracelet Found in Oakland Township Oakland County Michigan

  • from Detroit (Michigan, United States)

Hot To Trot!

When these two lovely ladies met it was love at first sight. This young horse jumper fell in love with Stacie’s beautiful chocolate eyes, brown coat and silky mane. They spent many hours practicing and bonding with one another. Having to take a break during quarantine her owner was excited once again to get back in the saddle. But little did she know that this jump session was gonna stirrup some trouble. Mounting up they could feel the excitement as they approached the base of the jump and taking off towards the sky, they made it over with a successful landing. Completing a few more rounds before dark settled in, she noticed her very much beloved bracelet given to her by a friend was missing. After chatting I giddyupped as fast as I could to the horse arena. When I arrived, I set up my MXT and started to grid search the path she took. Bit by bit I uncovered many horse hardware items and held them up to show her. I even tried to get info straight from the horse’s mouths of Stacie’s friends with my electronic carrot but the look they gave showed me that I had no horse sense whatsoever! Almost reaching the end of the circle I got a nice shallow signal. Pinpointing and scraping about 2 inches of gravelly sand revealed a portion of the bracelet! Sensing I was taking longer the horse jumper ran to me exclaiming…..Do you think that’s it? I’m beginning to wonder if it came off somewhere else! I said hay girl.. hold your horses….look at that strange horseshoe! Reaching down she slowly pulled the bracelet from the sand. As a sigh of relief came over her, she started jumping up and down wildly and it felt like the thundering hoofs of stampeding stallions. After a quick rinse and polish the pretty gleam of the rose gold bracelet came thru with flying colors. I turned and said my my, I love how these stables have turned!

Not just rings. Keys too!

  • from Cochrane (Alberta, Canada)

Got a call out last night. Lots of snow this week means lots of shovelling and the potential for all sorts of things to get lost. Rings, phones and keys.  Ryan was shovelling his driveway and when he was finished he realized his keys were gone. After checking inside the truck without luck, it left only one possibility; they were dropped between the truck and the house and most likely when he cleared the driveway.  We talked it over and he described his task as basically pushing the snow off the edge. So I checked the edge.  When that did not work, I expanded my search and eventually found the keys. It must have been one of the odd times he threw the snow because they close to 6 feet from the edge. No matter, Ryan has his keys and he can breathe easy. Keys aren’t cheap but even more, the hassle of replacing them is costly as well. Thanks for the generous reward.

Lost Ring Recovered Western Wisconsin.

  • from Chisago City (Minnesota, United States)

I received an email wondering if I could go up to a western Wisconsin lake and see if I could recover a lost ring. It was about 14o miles away. Wanting to ensure a successful recovery on the first trip we waited until both could meet on site to confirm the location of where it was lost.  The water in the lake is getting very cold around 36 degrees F. so waders were going to have to be used.  I was told that the ring came off while uncovering a boat. The ring slipped off and went into the lake near the end of the dock in about 4 feet of water. The lake levels can be lowered for the winter by conservation officials and was down about a foot from summer levels. This putting the search area in around 3 -4 feet of water.   This was about the maximum depth  that I could go before water would come over the waders and my hand would be submerged holding on to the metal detector.  I also use an aluminum scoop to recover targets to prevent from having to get wet this time of year. The search area was about a 15′ x 10′ area. Several attempts were made at finding the ring by the owner and friends and neighbor. They tried snorkeling, raking and tried a metal detector with no luck. I have in the past had searchers looking for lost items using rakes end up moving the rings to a new location, which expands the search area.   I started out with my primary search. A primary search is an initial search in the area of the highest degree of likelihood. It is usually just seeing how many targets are out in the location and if anything just screams hear I am.  The lost ring was platinum with some diamonds.  So you look for somewhat shallow targets, anything deeper then 4″ is kind of ruled out.  The bottom of lakes if real sandy might get pushed down by searchers stepping on it but in this case there was a hardpan layer about 2″ below the bottom sand so it was going to be shallow. I did pick up several targets that were in the range of the ring but turned out to be pop tops/ pull tabs, bottle caps and other misc. junk targets. After searching for 15 – 20 minutes I got a hit on pretty good signal but not jumping out, I had set my scoop down on the dock which was about 6-8′ away. When hitting that target I did not want to take my eye off the target location but I needed to go grab the scoop. Its not hard to loose the target by waves pushing you or currents in rivers. I identified a small white pebble on the bottom that I could come back to. I grabbed the scoop and found the white stone. took a scoop and missed the target, took and second scoop and I had whatever it was in my scoop. BAM there it was… The ring,  what a great feeling seeing the ring in your scoop.  It never gets old.  Now to reunite the owner to the ring.  When I walked back up the hill to the cabin, I mentioned to owner that was standing out on the deck – “boy a lot of junk targets out there”. He said yes he was afraid of that. When I extended my hand out with the ring, it took him by surprise. You found it. You could just see the emotion run across his face. The ring had such deep sentimental value that when reunited you can feel that everything is back in it place and the relief that you are complete again.  It’s so great to see that relief happen right before your eyes.

Never gets old.

Contact:

Kevin was at work placing a new culvert under the road. He was completing the clean-up and removing branches from the creek bed. After discovering his wedding ring of 25 years was missing he searched and searched. Having no luck his wife found me on the internet and convinced him to contact me. Note this ring was his fathers, so a very very special ring.
Kevin contacted me and we met up after my work shift and within 15 minutes he had his ring back were it belongs.

I love my job.

Kevin texted hours later to say “Don, I can’t tell you how happy I am that you found my ring.
I wish you all the best.
Kevin”
