September 2021 DJ and his wife Kim were enjoying a day on Ohop Lake doing some kayaking. Kim suggested to her husband to take all of his valuables off for safe keeping so he did and casually placed his wedding ring in his t-shirt pocket not thinking twice about it. It was a hot day so when he returned to the dock he took off his shirt off and in doing so he immediately head a few “tink” “think” sounds looked down and watched his gold wedding band of twenty-four hears fall though the slats of the dock into the lake below. In his disappointment as they went to the patio for a bite to eat he started Googling for “Under water ring recovery near you”. The search landed him on TheRingFinders.com directory listing. Within a minute he was able to locate my listing allowing him to reach out for an experienced underwater lost ring recovery specialist.

When he reached out to me I was on holiday in Hawaii but I gladly took his call and listened to his situation. After hearing the details of a lost wedding band under residential dock I reassured him that his ring wasn’t going anywhere and that as soon as I got back into town and cleared up a few previous searches he’d be scheduled as soon as possible.

That schedule did come and we were still in our warm season making for a wonderful day on the lake. Even though this was a shallow water recovery it had some additional points to work around. The lake was still very silty with a lot of particulate in the water and his ring was under a dock. Even with these additional safety concerns a proper dive plan was made taking care for all safety precautions for a successful outcome.

Watch the video for the exciting conclusion of a lost gold wedding band of twenty-four years under a dock.

Grandfathers Gold Ring Lost in Sea at Tutukaka, Found!

Ring Finder – Ring Recovery Specialist…Lost ring? Lost necklace? Lost keys?… Metal Detector Service – Call ASAP 021 401626
Erin was enjoying a swim at Kowharewa Bay, near Tutukaka when he lost his grandfathers signet ring.
The ring was given to his grandfather on his 21st birthday, and had been passed down to him. One of those things that is truly irreplaceable.
His wife contacted me, and I arranged to meet him at Tutukaka the following day to try and recover this precious part of his family history.
I was on site a little ahead of him, so set about lining up landmarks from a photo his wife had sent me and estimating how far out he would have been given the state of the tide and the 90 minute window they were there.
Kowharewa Bay has a very shallow contour below low water mark, so “waist deep” is potentially a huge area. The timestamp on the photo was invaluable as it told me exactly what the tide level was at the time around loss.
Once that was done, I headed back to the car to get the wetsuit on and make a start.
It was still well before low water, so did a quick calculation of how much extra depth to allow – which ultimately meant the curious onlookers on the beach could only see a pair of headphones and dive mask gliding backwards and forwards through the waves, occasionally sinking out of sight to investigate a potential target.
I finished the first search pattern out to one side of the estimated location and was just turning to head over and start a second run on the other side when the coil drifted over a solid tone off to my side .
Slipping underwater, I fanned the sand away to reveal a well worn signet ring.
Ring recovery is a “Game of Inches”. It’s a slow, methodical, extremely disciplined procedure, when there’s a lot of trash signals it can be extremely mentally fatiguing as well as you listen to and analyse every response.
Get lazy with just one sweep of the coil and you could miss the target and walk right past it.
Had the coil not just grazed the ring in this instance it could have been a long 4-6Hrs in the water into the night until the search pattern opened up far enough to include it.
I waded ashore and phoned to let Erin know I had something for him!
He turned up about 5 minutes later and quickly had the ring back on his finger.

September 2021 John was searching the internet for metal detector rentals and became concerned how successful he would be having not used one before. With a little more online searching he ran across a video from the TheRingFinders YouTube page where Chris Turner had recovered a diamond solitaire in the water. So, John decided to see what this was about. He went to TheRingFinders.com and found my list for the local area. He sent a txt asking four some assistance in searching for his lost wedding band. The next morning we had a quick discussion and the search was set for later that day.

He informed me that he had take his watch and ring off so he would not get any tan lines. He tossed them into the side pocket of his beach chair that only had a velcro flap. After reading a book and pickup to leave he forgot to put his ring back on his finger. After walking down the beach about a hundred yards he realizes his ring was missing. He remembered there was a man with a metal detector earlier that day on the beach but he was no where to be found. After a quick visual search John left the beach thinking he would need to find a way to search for his lost wedding band.

Watch the video for the exciting conclusion of the lost rose gold wedding band that slipped out of his Tommy Bahama beach chair side pocket.

Sammamish River Canoe Tip Over Lost Item Recovery Kenmore WA

September 2020 a young man reached out to me for some recovery assistance of some lost items out of his canoe. He went out to do some fishing with a buddy loaded up with fishing gear and their cell phones. Apparently the buddy was not so experienced in a canoe and wound up tipping the boat over. Of course nothing was tied off to the boat and at some point as the canoe drifted down stream all there goodies trickled out of the craft and sunk to the bottom of the channel.

This portion of the Sammamish River connects Lake Sammamish to Lake Washington. On this Septemeber day it is very docile with a very slow flow rate. The bottom of the channel is a fairly clean sandy contour due to the flow the visibility was not as bad as it can be in the bottom of our local lakes.  Never the less it was a slower process going foot by foot searching the channel from side to side visually searching for their lost items.

Check out the video to see the exciting recovery process in action. The iPhone having been in only seven feet of water actually survived. After drying the phone and charging, it turned on with no damage to the screen. In these situations I always urge people to take the opportunity to make a fresh back up incase the phone dies a few days later due to the corrosion process if any water made its way inside the phone. At least having a fresh backup ensure a happy stress free transition into a replacement phone.

Gold signet ring lost at Cable Bay – Found in the Sea

  • from Paihia (New Zealand)
Ring Finder – Ring Recovery Specialist…Lost ring? Lost necklace? Lost keys?… Metal Detector Service – Call ASAP 021 401626
Second recovery for the year and hot on the heels of Andys ring recovery at Tauranga Bay (which you can read below)
Shortly after Christmas, Caitie was enjoying her holiday at Cable Bay wearing a special gold signet ring gifted to her for her 21st with the family crest that dates back a few hundred years engraved into it.
Tragically, she lost the ring in the waves, and gave it up as lost.
Almost a week later, she contacted me.
She had been buying a couple of “make myself feel better” rings at a local jeweller in Mangonui, who suggested Caitie get in touch to see if I could reunite her with the treasured ring.
The beach at Cable Bay is a steep gradient ocean beach. It’s very dynamic being composed predominantly of small broken shell fragments and anything dropped has potential to sink through the layers quickly with the wave action. After a week, having Caitie be able to meet me on site would be critical to push the odds into our favour.
Unfortunately she was slightly  delayed getting to the beach, so I got started with the information I had to hand.
I cleared the area as described by Caitie, then started expanding out – focussing on the low tide mark and wash as the tide was due to turn and start coming in.
Some 20 metres further along the beach, knee deep in the water, I got a faint tone. Could be one of the thousands of flecks of aluminium foil that inhabit that beach… or a deep ring.
With ring finding, you have to confirm every single target. It’s not uncommon to finish a search for a ring in the sea with 50+ can pull tabs, bottle caps and old copper coins in the pouch. (any detected rubbish is bagged to help clean up the environment – and avoid digging it next time)
It took several scoops to catch up with the ring in the fluid sand at a depth of nearly 40cm.
I secured her wayward lost gold ring and continued hunting casually for the next few minutes while I waited for Caitie to arrive.
The reaction when you return a presumed lost for ever ring is always worth far more than the melt value to me.
There were screams, clapping hands and jumping with joy from Caitie.
Priceless.

Lost Wedding Ring in Draper: Found

Last fall (2021) Joe reached out me after noticing his wedding ring was missing. He was out coaching football in the rain and after practice noticed it was not on his finger. He reached out me shortly after and I went to the football field with him to try to narrow down the search area. A football field is a large area to cover with a 12 inch coil hahaha. I ended up making two trips to the area and found 3 rings before I found Joe’s beautiful platinum wedding band. The ring has rubies and diamonds representing their birth stones. Joe was so thrilled to get it back! The other rings did not having any engravings in them so unfortunately have no way of getting the rings back to their owners. I always recommend to those who reach out to get their rings engraved with their name or something that someone can search and find who it belongs to. You never know when that precious item might find its way back to you.

2022 started with building a snowman and losing a ring in Albany Park Illinois

  • from Las Vegas (Nevada, United States)
Contact:

Received a urgent request from a student who lost her mother’s ring while building a snowman in one of the first snowstorms of the year in Chicago. Distraught would be an understatement!  Panic stricken….Yes. To complicate matters, she had been throwing snowballs too. She had spent hours searching the snow not realizing she was also packing the snow and making it harder to find. It was 10 degrees out, so not the most enjoyable time to hunt. Took my XP Deus and hunted in 12 kHz in my ring program. Knowing it was a surface find made it easier by raising the coil. I knew it was gold so I expected it to fall in the 40-50 range. However I did not know what the Karat gold it was. First I searched the snowman figuring that it could have been picked up while rolling the snow..no luck. I moves about 2 feet from snowman and got a target at 60. BINGO!! 18K goes higher that 50 on a good sized ring.

Total hunt time…1 minute.

Got lot’s of hugs!!

Lost Silver Ring in Tauranga Bay Sand Dune – Found by the Ring Finders!

  • from Paihia (New Zealand)
Ring Finder – Ring Recovery Specialist…Lost ring? Lost necklace? Lost keys?… Metal Detector Service – Call ASAP 021 401626
First recovery for 2022.
Andy was enjoying New Years Eve on the beach at Tauranga Bay near Whangaroa Harbour, and as he kicked back to make himself comfortable in the loose sand of the dunes, he felt his jandals slip off his feet. Over the hours, they got progressively buried in the steep and mobile dry sand dune.
But this isn’t a story of a jandal recovery.
In the pitch black, as he sifted through the sand looking for his now buried jandals, he felt his precious silver ring slip off and vanish into the sand.
He gave me a call today just as I was getting prepped to leave for another lost ring in the sea at Cable Bay an hour further north.
I made an earlier start and detoured out to Tauranga Bay en route.
Searching the area was a matter of trying to maintain tight control of the coil in a controlled slide down the dune, followed by a hard three steps up- slide two back, slog up to the top again. Great exercise in the midday summer sun…
I cleared the initially indicated area, and as Andy wasn’t exactly sure where he had been, I started to open up the search pattern – keeping a half eye on the time as I had to catch low tide up in Doubtless Bay for the other lost ring recovery. If necessary I could return to this one, but time and tide waits for no-one.
Halfway down the dune, about 6 or 7 metres from where Andy thought he had been, I picked up a bright silver tone.
The scoop went in, the dry sand flowed out through the holes like water leaving a lovely bark-textured silver ring behind.
Holding it up to Andy, it was met with a huge grin!
Then into the car, and off to Doubtless Bay for recovery number two… leaving Andy to continue to look for his jandals buried in the sand at the new location where I had found the ring
.

Kia Key fob Lost! Oxford Neighborhood, N/E Edmonton. Alberta

  • from Edmonton (Alberta, Canada)
Contact:

I received a call from Chantel on Thursday requesting my service to locate her lost Kia key fob and house keys in her back yard or in neighbor’s yard. She explained that her five year old daughter had them and was playing with them in the back yard. The keys had been missing for all most two weeks and Chantel spent many hours looking for them with no luck. I told Chantel that since we have been in a very cold spell in the -40 Celsius for the past week, her keys were safe. I told her I would search on Saturday morning as the weather was going to be a little warmer at -26 and we both agreed.
I arrived at her residence at 10 am! Chantel showed me her back yard which was a small yard and explained that her daughter was playing and throwing the keys around the yard and that there was a possibility that they could also be in the next door neighbor’s yard. I did a thorough search but no keys were found so, with permission, I went to both neighbors’ yards and still no keys were found. Chantel was giving up so I said that they had to be here somewhere! In the corner of her neighbor’s yard was a garden shed and I asked Chantel if she had a ladder so I could check the roof of the shed. Bingo, there were the keys.
As we all know! Key fobs are very expensive to replace. Chantel was very happy to have her keys back.

Lost Platinum Ring at Loon Lake WA…FOUND!!!

  • from Spokane (Washington, United States)

On the eve of the New Year with a high temp of 5 degrees Fahrenheit, Whitney contacted me about her lost platinum ring. See Whitney had gotten a diamond and platinum ring for Christmas. Loving it dearly she wore it while sledding with her family. With a quick adjustment of her glove the ring said “see ya” as it decided to go sledding too. But like all rings during winter time they come off the hand warmer then the outside temperature and the snow. So Whitney’s platinum ring sunk into the snow and wedged itself in between the rocks below. After I arrived and said “hello”, Whitney and I climbed the little sled hill where the ring came off. Whitney demonstrated the ring toss and I started my grid. Two grid lines down the hill led me to a 16 vdi signal. Quickly pinpointing, the snow showed me a shiny rim and just as I found the ring Whitney had gone back into her house. So I walked quickly over to the back door and knocked. Whitney was still taking off her boots when I held up my hand with the ring. Her mask hid her smile but her words, “Logan he found it!” let me know she was super happy to have her Christmas present back.
