I received a call from Lisa asking if I would be able to help locate a ring she had lost earlier in the day while enjoying a beautiful afternoon in Seaside Park, New Jersey.

Lisa explained that while applying lotion, she had removed her ring and placed it in the cupholder of her beach chair. It wasn’t until later—after they had already driven home—that she realized the ring was missing. She and her group immediately began searching everywhere, and even made the drive back to Seaside Park in hopes of finding it. They tried using a metal detector, but unfortunately had no luck.

After hearing her story, I assured Lisa that if the ring was still in the area she described, I was confident I could recover it. I arrived shortly after and began searching the area after removing the chairs and belongings from the spot.

Within just a few minutes, I had Lisa’s beautiful ring in my scoop and back on her finger. Her relief and excitement said it all!

I got a call today from a fellow ring finder who covers the area further south of me. He had prior commitments and couldn’t make it to do search right away, so he asked if I could take the call for him. I agreed and reached out to the person in need, Robert.

On the phone, Robert explained that he had been doing yard work, digging in three different garden beds, when he noticed a hole in his glove and realized his wedding ring was missing. I told him I could be there in about an hour, and he said that would be perfect.

When I arrived, Robert showed me the first location where he had been doing some digging around , which was the same spot where he first noticed the ring was gone. I explained that rings are not always in the spot where people first realize they’re missing, but this is a good spot to start, as it’s the most likely. . After quickly searching the area, including the hole where the bush had been planted, I didn’t find anything.

Next, we moved to another small garden bed on the other side of the house. This area had a lot of metal interference. There was a four-inch metal border around the bed and a nearby gas meter causing all kinds of signals. Still, after carefully checking, I was fairly certain the ring wasn’t there either. We quickly move on to the last garden area, and had the same results there.

I explained to Robert that since his glove had a hole, the ring could have slipped off anywhere throughout his day. He had assumed it would be in the area where he was digging, but I told him that’s not always the case, and we needed to consider all locations where he had been making pulling, pushing, or tugging motions.

When I mentioned searching the whole yard, he looked a little overwhelmed. But I reassured him that my 15-inch coil would help speed up the process. Then I asked him where else he had been that involved movement that could have dislodged the ring. He mentioned being near the bird feeder but was convinced it wouldn’t be out there.

We walked to the backyard, and he showed me exactly what he had been doing. He had dumped water from the bird feeder in a specific area. I started scanning around the platform where the feeder sat with no luck. I then moved slightly to the left, swung my detector once or twice, and there it was, his wedding ring, just to the left of the bird feeder!

I suspect that when he dumped the water, his ring slipped off and fell into the garden bed. This is a great example of why it’s  so important to carefully retrace a persons steps and focus on motions that could have caused the ring to slip off. More often than not, lost rings aren’t where people expect them to be, they’re  hiding somewhere unexpected and just need to be tracked down.

Dan had placed his wedding ring in the cup holder of a beach chair while relaxing by the shore. At some point, the chair was unknowingly picked up, causing the ring to fall out and disappear into the soft Jersey Shore sand. Panic set in as Dan realized his wedding ring, a deeply sentimental piece, was missing. Wanting to recover it himself he purchased a metal detector and spent two days searching the beach, but despite his efforts, the ring remained lost.

Meanwhile, Julie, eager to help, took matters into her own hands by posting on a local Facebook page, asking for the local expert with a metal detector to come assist. The post quickly gained traction, and I was tagged multiple times as the NJ Ring Finder by people familiar with my previous successes. After two days of unsuccessful searching, Julie decided to reach out to me directly, hoping I could provide the expertise they needed.

I met Dan and Julie at the beach, where they walked me through the events leading to the ring’s disappearance. They pointed out the location where the chair had been picked up, explaining the area they believed the ring had fallen. After understanding the area, I got to work.

With my metal detector in hand, I methodically swept through the sand, focusing on the spot they had indicated. In less than 10 minutes, the detector gave off a steady signal, and I scooped up the sand to reveal Dan’s wedding ring glistening inside. Their relief and gratitude were instant and heartfelt. What had seemed like an impossible task was resolved quickly, and another precious memory was saved.

Originally, I had planned to head out the same night, but with low tide not until late, we decided on a search for the following morning, almost 48 hours after the ring was lost. I arrived early, set up my search grid, and began working in the rough surf. The process was slow, and it was tough to get signals, but I kept at it. It was a perfect day for the beach, so Nicole and her friends decided to spend the afternoon soaking up the sun. At one point, Nicole took off her rings to apply sunblock, and her friend tucked them into her pocket for safekeeping. Somehow, in the hustle of the day, the rings slipped out and disappeared into the soft white sand of the Jersey Shore. When they realized the rings were missing, panic quickly set in. Like many in this situation, they started searching frantically through the sand but had no luck. That’s when they realized it was time to call in a professional with a metal detector.

After speaking with Nicole, we agreed I should come down immediately to start the search. Her friend met me at the dune walkover and explained what had happened as we made our way back to their spot. Jessica reached out to me about a special ring her husband, Brian, had lost earlier in the day while they were enjoying a beautiful day at the beach. While I was at work, I received a phone call from Ashley. She explained that she, her husband David, and their kids had been enjoying a beautiful afternoon at the beach when she took off her ring to apply sunblock. It wasn’t until hours later that she realized it was missing, remembering she had left it in the cup holder of the chair. After unsuccessfully searching, they packed up and headed home. A quick Google search led them to find my name, and Ashley promptly gave me a call.

We agreed to meet on the beach, and she briefly described the ring. When I arrived, David met me at the dune walkover. Based on his recollection of where they had been sitting and the pictures he had taken earlier in the day, we determined the search area. It was getting dark, and David had to return to the local amusement park to be with his kids.

I searched the area, widening my grid with each pass but had no luck at first.
