I arrived 15 minutes later and turned on my detector, my first pass with the coil I was able to find her ring.
Chris and Michelle and their two Daughters and a friend were dining out at a beach restaurant and bar Saturday evening. It’s was great weather and they had dinner under a tiki hut on the sand beach. While wiping her hands, Michelle’s ring fell on the table, bounced, slipped through a crack, dropped to the sand and disappeared. They searched and searched with no Luck. Their friend was familiar with Pensacola and looked up my contact information and Chris called to ask if I could help. It was about 9:00pm when we talked. I asked lots of questions and based the very public nature where the ring was lost, I thought it best to go out right away. I arrived about 10:15 while staff was shutting down. Michelle was very sentimental about this ring. It was a gift from Chris on their tenth anniversary and had been on her finger every day for the past 10 years. Fortunately, the bartender agreed to stick around while I was doing a search and left the lights on. The area was small so it only took 10 minutes or so to find it. Both Michelle and Chris were very emotional and very thankful. Their Daughters smiled and cheered when Mom put her ring back on. The family was on vacation for the Labor Day weekend from Mississippi. I’m glad I could help, everybody’s happy now and they can continue their vacation with no worries.
This is kind of an unusual but very sweet story that was about two months in the making. I metal detect with my son in law, Dave Cartee, we share things we find and the stories all. The time. I was doing some random detecting in the Gulf at Pensacola Beach, testing out a detector, and just came across this silver ring. I got home and noted the ring was engraved with two names on the outside, Tori and Brock. On the inside was the engraving I love you. The first thing I thought was this is a promise ring and two young people are really missing this. That evening I was sharing what I found that day with Dave and described the promise ring. Immediately Dave asked me to sent a picture. I sent it and he called right back and told me that about two months prior Tori had reached out to him. That was late June. I asked Dave if he still had her contact information and he looked and found a phone number. I texted Tori with a picture of the ring and asked her to call. She was amazed, emotional and very grateful. We made plans to meet and return her ring a few days later. Both Tori and Brock were extremely grateful and told me they had given up hope on recovering that ring. But because of this was their original first ring, circumstance surrounding its return, the story of its lost, emotional let down and now return. That this promise ring had a very special meaning and story they would cherish and planned to pass this ring on one day as an heirloom. I assumed that meant there’s another yet to be written chapter to this story. Tori and Brock here’s wishing you the best and I am glad I could help and become apart or you story.

** I was called by Mikael asking for help to find his wife’s white gold diamond engagement ring. They are visiting from Belgium and will be returning in two days. His wife, Melanie had been standing in the patio of their hotel room, she picked up a leaf off a table, throwing it into the landscaping. Both rings of her white gold diamond wedding ring set went flying into the tall thick plants.
Mikael looked into the foliage and was able to find the wedding ring. The next day purchased a metal detector after two unsuccessful days of searching for the 1-1/2 ct. gold engagement ring he hired a guy with a metal detector to help him. Together they pulled more than half the thick 2 ft. high plants out of the soil. The planter was approximately 10ft. x 16ft. But there was a possibility if the ring took a odd bounce it could have gone into another planter or the patio.
I showed up to search the whole area hoping the ring may have been masked by large metal staples. It was also possible that they may have missed the ring with inferior metal detectors. It was important to me to get into searching with the mind thought that it had not been searched.
Three hours into the search, I was giving up hope. I actually told Mikael I only had a few places to eliminate before calling the search off. We had been concentrating on the area closest to where the wedding ring was found. I remembered a couple other searches where the engagement ring went quite a bit further that the smaller ring.
I crawled into the last remaining thick plants with my Deus 2 high-frequency coil and following up with the Garrett Pinpointer. My last signal was Melanie’s beautiful engagement ring totally lodged into the base of thick plants, more that 12 ft. from where the other ring was found.. Unbelievable for me, but such a relief and joy for Mikael and Melanie. They just have no idea how close I came to calling this a “no find”… Also, it’s not easy to crawl on your hands and knees in wet planter soil for three hours. Fatigued, frustrated and mentally defeated was taking over my stubbornness. Then the joy of the recovery kicks in and I forget how I almost gave up..

I got a call from Spencer saying he lost a very sentimental gold chain with a gold cross and an actual Spanish coin from the sunken Atocha! Both the cross and the coin were gifts to Spencer from his folks and he cherished them very much. Normally he would not wear his chain at the beach but on this particular day the organization he volunteers with had a large group of young children at the beach and they were playing in the sand and shallow water only. As the afternoon wore on Spencer was getting hot and decided to take off his shirt and as he pulled his shirt over his head his chain caught and came off along with his shirt. Spencer was standing on the wet sand and as his chain landed on the sand a rather large rouge wave washed over his feet and his chain instantly disappeared! Spencer was stunned and immediately dropped to his knees and tried to find his chain running his fingers back and forth through the sand hoping desperately to find his treasured possession! He spent that whole afternoon walking back and forth combing the whole area and all he had to show for his efforts was a bad sunburn!
Later that evening a friend on Facebook suggested he call one of the Ring Finders in the area and Mr Moye Howard suggested my name because I was the closest to that particular area. At first Spencer was discouraged about even asking me to come out and look because a family member was sure that the rough waves and surf had washed the chain way out into deeper water and it would be impossible to actually find. I tried to reassure Spencer that because his chain, cross and coin were gold and that gold is super heavy it would very likely still be buried in the sand close to where he dropped it.
My wife and I met Spencer the next morning early as the tide was going out and Spencer showed me exactly where he was standing the moment he dropped his chain. It was very high up on the beach and I set out my flags and began my methodical grid search across the sand. I explained to Spencer that I would be digging any and all signals just to be sure and my very first target was a large washer. Five minutes later I dug an aluminum pull tab and on the third signal I dug carefully and about 4 inches down I spotted a glimmer of gold and sure enough….right where Spencer had said he was standing….was his beautiful chain with the cross and the coin buried at least six inches further down in the sand! (Rough waves and soft sand equals deep targets!) Spencer was speechless and overcome with emotion and it was a moment of pure joy and relief that I will never forget. I thank God for the opportunity to be a blessing to young Spencer and his family and this is my hope and prayer for all who ask for my help!

Received a phone call from Anna about having lost her diamond engagement ring while at Sandbanks Provincial Park. Luckily, they were still at the park and we met up within the hour. Anna had secured her ring on her gold chain, not wanting to loose it. She was in the water with friends, playing in the waves with her floaty and figured that is where the ring was lost. Once they returned to their beach chairs, she noticed that her chain clasp was open and her chain was just dangling around her neck with the diamond ring missing. I started gridding the large area before the sandbars would swallow her ring due to high winds and waves. After an hour or so, and in need of a break, I headed back to where they were sitting. She asked if she could try my machine around where they were sitting while I rested. Having put the headset over ears, I started to swing the coil a couple of times to show her how to do so. Right away, she said she could hear a loud signal. Brushed away a bit of sand and she saw the glitter of gold. It was her beautiful diamond ring. Her reaction was priceless as she was so upset about having lost her ring. Another great recovery on a beautiful day at the beach. Life is good.

Friday at noon (September 1, 2023), I received a text message from Leigh stating she had lost her wedding band while painting lines on a band practice field at a local High School in Madison, Alabama. She had gotten paint on her ring, so she took it off and put it in her pants pocket. When she finished and had gotten back to her car, the ring was no longer in her pocket. I was off from work, so I was able to head there shortly after Leigh’s text message.
Leigh had told me that she thought it would be around the 50-yard line. I started my search there with my Minelab Equinox 800 with the 15-inch coil. I searched all the painted lines, but did not find her ring. I went back to the 50-yard line and expanded my search. Soon after, I had found Leigh’s ring! It had rolled to the middle of the field between the 50 and the 40-yard lines. Leigh texted that she had just finished teaching her class and was on her way down. When she got there, she asked if I had any luck. I opened up my hand and said, “is this it?” It was and she was so happy to see it! She thanked me numerous times. She told me that on Sunday it would be her 1-year anniversary. Happy anniversary!!!

A Diamond & the Ruff….
…..got a call from Vinnie that said his wife lost one of her diamond earrings and felt it was somewhere in the house. Sometime around 2am their dog was fussing about something so Claire got up and first went into the bathroom then headed in the dark to let the dog out into the backyard. Claire laid down on the couch for a few minutes and the dog finally returned. Returning to bed all was well until awakening and realizing the earring was missing. After chatting a bit to get more details, I did a walkthrough of the route that was taken to let the dog out. Visually not seeing anything, I started to scan the couch area with my orange Garrett carrot pin-pointer metal detector. Between 2 cushions I got a signal. Separating the cushions, I saw the earring stuck between them! Yelling to Claire that I found one of her best friends she came running over to reunite! Even though diamonds are formed under great pressure, when my Orange Garrett “karat” is under pressure, it makes finds that are a cut above the rest!

A lost diamond earring was found in the grass in Niantic, CT. The owner of the lost diamond earring was playing with the young family member when she felt the earring get pulled from her ear. The natural reaction is to grab for the ear, and good thing she did because she was able to catch the earring back. BUT not the gold and diamond stud. She helplessly watched the diamond earring roll down the front of the little girl’s dress and into the grass. This particular woman was a repeat customer, so she knew the drill! She planted a marking flag and called me right away to look for the lost diamond earring. Stud earrings only have a bit of metal, so the detection equipment must be very sensitive. I have an XP DEUS with a high-frequency coil used for gold prospecting, so I had the right equipment for this job. The very first signal was the lost diamond earring. Before picking it up, I noticed it worked its way down into the base of the grass and was pressing up against the soil. A lost gold wedding band was found in the yard in Westbrook, CT. Matt was cleaning the pool vacuum and went to toss some debris into the yard when he felt his gold wedding band slip off. The corner of the grassy backyard was a small area bordered by green bushes and a fence, so the search area was very small. Matt suspected the 10′ x 12′ area would be easy to search and find the lost wedding band with a Walmart metal detector. After 6 hours of searching, Matt could not understand why he wasn’t finding the wedding band. Blaming cheap detection equipment and being inexperienced with a metal detector, he found my website, rediscoverlost.com, and contacted me. I quickly followed Matt’s footsteps and covered the grassy area near the pool and under the bushes – no wedding band! Experience tells me most lost wedding bands are not in the exact spot where the owners thought they were. Thinking outside the box, I figured there was a chance Matt used more force than he realized and slung the heavy gold wedding band completely through the bushes and onto the other side of the fence. I walked around the garage and began to scan the grass on the other side. The first signal rang loud, so I knew the object was on the surface. I parted the grass and saw bright gold shining through the blades. Found it! Matt’s wedding band flew 10 feet further than he thought and through a set of bushes and a fence!
