Lost Key FOB Lost in the Sand – Found and Returned North Myrtle Beach SC

  • from North Myrtle Beach (South Carolina, United States)

I got a phone call around 8:15pm from my son-in-law (Donnie), a NMB policeman, about a lady who had lost her Key FOB on the beach. A few minutes later he texted me her phone number. I contacted Dana and found out the details of what happened with her keys . She said she was sitting on the beach and decided to go into the water to take some pictures of her daughters from an ocean view. After coming out of the water and walking back to her car she realized she didn’t have her key FOB any longer. She wasn’t sure whether she lost them on the walk out on the beach, in the area she was sitting or in the water. This all happened about 7:30pm with an incoming tide. I asked her if she’d like for me to come out and see if I could find them, she agreed and I was on my way. She really didn’t have many options considering a spare FOB was at home with her husband which is about 7 hours away.

I met Dana, her father, and 2 daughters in one of the public access parking lots and we walked out to the beach. By now it was a little after 9pm so I was concerned the keys might be under water. I told her I’d follow her out to where she thought the keys were at swinging the detector as we walked. We stopped about 25 yards from the access and she said this is about where she had been sitting, two swings over the area and bingo!!! Took a scoop of sand out of the hole, shook it over the ground and reached down, picked up her keys and handed them to her. She was in total disbelief.

Dana, thank you for trusting in me to help you find you lost keys, although not a diamond or gold ring, at the time that FOB was priceless.

Lost Platinum & Diamonds Wedding ring at Hale Koa Beach Waikiki…FOUND!!!

  • from O‘ahu (Hawaii, United States)

This ring find began when I received a call from Bebe who resides from Telluride, Colorado. Bebe explained that while she was holding her girlfriend Hannah’s Platinum & Diamonds Wedding ring for safekeeping while she went snorkeling…Bebe promptly lost it while throwing a football to her six year old nephew. It slid right off her pinkie and somewhere into the sand. Several beach-goers searched but no luck. Even a metal detectorist came through with a substandard machine and all it did was make noise. I told Bebe to stop searching and get rid of the detectorist. I would be there in 30 minutes time. She agreed and just guarded her spot on the beach. When I arrived we marked out a grid in the dry sand about the size of 16 parking stalls. First target was a quarter and then Boom the sound of Platinum. Its very distinct on the Excalibur. One scoop down and there was Hannah’s gorgeous ring. Elapsed time 3 minutes. These hunts are the best. Aloha to Hannah and Bebe best friends again!

Lady’s White Gold Wedding & Engagement Rings Lost, Recovered and Returned Myrtle Beach SC

  • from North Myrtle Beach (South Carolina, United States)

I got a call a little after 11am today from Jamil from NY asking if I could help find his wife’s two rings in the sand. This was another lost ring call from Myrtle Beach so I called Matt Fry, the TRF for Myrtle Beach. Matt and I discussed the situation and he told me to go ahead and take the call. I called Jamil back and let him know I was on my way.

I met Jamil and his wife, Khatira on the beach with their 2 small children. Khatira told me she had taken her rings off and placed them in her lap, forgot them and stood up causing her rings to fly into the soft sand. After about 10 mins of searching, getting the lifeguard to move an umbrella and chairs I got the first tone and scooped up her engagement ring. A few more passes with the detector and I got the second tone and scooped up her wedding band. A very happy and relieved couple!

Jamil and Khatira, thank you for trusting me to find your lost treasure and for the very generous gift. Have a great time with the rest of your vacation and a safe trip back home.

Please watch the video of the recovery below.

Lost Silver Eskimo Tribal Ring at Waikiki Beach…FOUND!!!

  • from O‘ahu (Hawaii, United States)

While finishing up a ring find at Lanikai Beach my wife Wendy texted me to call Vera in Waikiki. When I called Vera who was vacationing with her husband Joe from Anchorage Alaska told me her husband just lost his hand-made Silver Tribal ring in three feet of water near the Duke Kahanamoku statue in Waikiki. I told Vera I could be there in about 30 minutes as I was on the North side of the island. We met at the statue and proceeded down to the beach. The rollers were coming in quite steady from knee to overhead. It was all I could do to try and stay in one spot. I had a great high tone but the target kept escaping my scoop. I went ashore and got Joe to join me in the water so we could work together. Between sets I dug like a madman only to be thrown about after a few seconds. Finally on about the 15th scoop the tone was gone and there in my scoop was the Silver Eskimo Tribal ring. Incredible engraving. Vera & Joe had a matched set and Joe admitted when the ring came off he cried. He thought it was lost forever. These rings have very sentimental value to the Alaskan natives as he and Vera explained to me. I was only glad it finally ended up in my scoop after so many attempts. Aloha to Joe & Vera!

Lost 2.7 Carat Rock of Ages Diamond and Platinum Wedding Ring at Lanikai Beach…FOUND!!!

  • from O‘ahu (Hawaii, United States)

This ring find began when I got a tearful call from Sandy visiting Hawaii from Irvine, California. After finding the “Rock of Ages” That’s the name I gave the Diamond as it was the biggest I’ve ever seen or found. The client sent me a nice text and described their dilemma and the story is below.

Sent from my iPhone Sandy and Steve met in Hawaii in 1993- Steve was born and raised here, and Sandy was on a high school graduation trip from Orange County, CA. They kept in touch via letters and email until she came back out in 1999 and they began dating. They were married in Rancho Palos Verdes in 2005. Steve designed her engagement ring specifically, using a family heirloom center stone (a rare miner’s emerald cut 2.7 carat diamond from the 1920’s) and building around it with other diamonds, and a platinum band.

They were back visiting with their two kids, playing catch on Lanikai Beach when the ring flew off Sandy’s finger in knee deep water. A frantic three hour search ensued, with a number of good-hearted local residents helping out- but as the sun set they had no luck.

Sandy and Steve Googled lost rings and discovers Ring Finders. They called early the next morning and Joe said he would personally come out and take a look (probably feeling empathetic to Sandy’s tearful plea). After an exhaustive search of the area and right before giving up, Joe found the ring and set off a celebration and joyful tears from Sandy.

From Steve and Sandy- we would absolutely endorse Joe- not just because he found our ring but for how responsive and considerate he was. I don’t know what we would have done without him- he saved our trip and a family jewel that we can now pass on to our kids. Thank you so much Joe!!!=

I couldn’t have said it any better. Aloha to Sandy & Steve!

Wedding Ring Lost in the Sand at Hermosa Beach, CA…Found With a Fun Return.

  • from Redondo Beach (California, United States)

Russell called me this afternoon after he had lost his ring. He was hoping I would be able to help. I asked a few questions, and said that it take me about an hour to get there because I was out of town, and he was willing to wait. Russell had taken his daughter to the beach to play on the swings. While he was watching his daughter , there was a group of young ladies playing volley ball near him, and the balls would sometimes come to where he was sitting. He would then pick up the ball and toss it back to the ladies, when the last time he did, his ring popped off and disappeared into the sea of sand.

When I got to the area, I could see Russell surrounded by a group of ladies all in the sand. I came to find out that the lady volley ball group was from China, and barely spoke any English, but when they realized what had happened to Russell, wanted to help him find his ring. By the time I got there they had been searching for at least 45 minutes scouring the sand where the loss took place. When they saw me and my equipment, they were very intrigued, and followed me as I searched. Each time I would get a signal, the ladies would huddle around as I brought up the find, and I would give each one of them the find to hold; a screw, a pull tab, a pin, etc. I then got a good signal in the head phones, and the ring was in the scoop. All the ladies clapped and Russell gave each one of them a big hug for their helpfulness. All of them wanted to take a lot of pictures, and this one just captures the moment with Russell’s great smile, surrounded by his helping crew. Great day!

Russell sent the following to include on this post:

Walking to and around the Strand in Hermosa with my daughter has become routine over the past couple years. From the Baby Bjorn at just a few months, to the hip, an occasional seat on the shoulders overseeing what probably feels like sitting on top of the world, to now, keeping up with the little Olympic sprinter, one thing is certain, I am in love. Having married three years ago, my wife and I were blessed with a beautiful daughter and our lives were forever turned upside down from the moment she arrived.

Recently, walks to the Strand have one general purpose, the swing.  We wake up, we eat breakfast, maybe take in a little PAW PATROL and then we’re out the door.  April 10th started as usual business.  We crossed the street and I asked my daughter if she wanted down to walk. Of course, she declined.  I asked if she were ready for the swings and she nodded while looking at me knowing I had the answer.

As we approached our stomping grounds, on this morning, we would have company. Not paying mind to the closeness of the action, I put my daughter in the swing where she immediately focused on the volleyballs flying in and around our direction.  As usual, I would give her a few pushes, move back a bit, drop to my knees and begin building my princess her sand castle that she eagerly awaits to climb, stomp, smash and use as a slide.

We had been at the beach for no more than ten minutes. While constructing the castle, a ball zipped in my direction that I caught and without hesitation, threw back to one of the girls training.  Moments later, another ball would find its way in my direction that I would catch, again, throw back however this time, would throw with it my wedding ring.  I immediately felt its weight “fly off” my finger.  Happening so quickly, I couldn’t see the exact direction the ring would travel however, my world stopped spinning. Flashbacks of my wedding day resurfaced.  Forgotten faces would reappear, and the sentiment of life would take new ownership.  The beach became a sea of memories and with it carried a feeling of unexplainable loss.

I called my wife to share with her what happened. She would soon show up to help aid in the search.  The volleyball team would literally come into play as well. A morning fit for a father and his daughter would become without notice, a search and rescue effort.  After forty-five minutes without discovery, a couple had approached the swings and learned of my story. Not too focused on their involvement, I would overhear the woman conversing with her partner that she was going to look for a metal detector.  Having no success at a local restaurant on the Strand, she walked to the Lifeguard unit where she was provided a yellow piece of paper with a gentleman’s phone number on it.  That gentleman would happen to be Steve Smith.

Not losing hope, but confidence, I reluctantly dialed Steve who would answer and agree to meet with me.  What would feel like an eternity, Steve would arrive a little over an hour after having talked on the phone with gear in hand and new life.

I shared with him my story, he mapped out a grid, began to detect and the rest is history.

As Steve searched, I pondered at the women’s volleyball team standing in a circle with me while waiting for any sign of good fortune.  I was thinking about how they were here from another country training to be Champions but yet became so concerned with finding my ring.  I was just a father searching for a piece of metal.  What mattered most?  Becoming a champion or a ring?  I guess in sports, one comes with the other.  I was so touched, honored and thankful for their selfless act of kindness, I had never before experienced anything like it in my lifetime.

What joy and happiness erupted once Steve turned up the ring will never be forgotten.  My world began to turn again, I felt like I had an army of angels around me and maybe I did.  I will find comfort in that for the rest of my life and will be forever grateful to the men and women that helped save not only the day, but the memory and meaning of watching my wife slide my wedding ring on my finger the day we married.

Lost Gold & Diamond Wedding Ring at Waikiki Beach…FOUND!!!

  • from O‘ahu (Hawaii, United States)

This ring find began when Gareth from Auckland, New Zealand called. It was already dark but as always I wanted to get this ring before the band of detectorists go into the water in the protected area of Waikiki. As Gareth was testing the water to see if he could take his baby girl in he didn’t realize that the swim through the wall had a drop off from 3 to 6 feet deep. As he stumbled he put his hand down to break his fall and when he pull his hand out of the coarse sand his ring was gone. The lifeguard told him to watch for a detectorist to come down the beach but after an hour none arrived. That’s when Gareth googled “Lost Ring Waikiki” and found the ring finders. When I arrived there was just enough ambient light from the hotels along the beach I didn’t need my headlamp. I went out to the drop off and immediately got a nice tone but the target kept moving around and away from my scoop. I abandoned that thinking it was a pull tab. About ten feet away I got another nice tone and two scoops down there was Gareth’s awesome gold ring glittering in my scoop. Elapsed time 3 minutes. Gareth thanked me many times over and said the vacation was saved. Aloha to Gareth!

Lost Gold Wedding Ring at Waikiki Beach…FOUND!!!

  • from O‘ahu (Hawaii, United States)

This ring find started when I was called by Frank from Rochester, New York. While celebrating his 20th Anniversary Frank was enjoying the warm waters of Waikiki with his wife. After about two hours in the water Frank started heading into the beach when in about waist deep water his Gold Wedding Ring fell off in a wave. He tried looking with some goggles but the turbulent sand covered the ring out of sight. That evening he found “The Ring Finders” and sent me an email. I never got the email or responded so Frank decided to call. We decided to meet in Waikiki in about 45 minutes at the Burger King across from where he lost the ring. Frank showed me the extreme ends of the grid and in I went. It was high tide and the rollers were coming in fast & furious. It was hard to stay on target let alone scoop into solid reef. After the first grid search I went in to give Frank an update. The only target I could retrieve was an 8 ounce fishing weight. I asked Frank to join me in the water and act as a marker so I could stay on grid. While in the water Frank realized I needed to search more towards Diamond Head. On the fourth leg I got a decent tone and one scraping scoop across the reef low and behold there was Frank’s ring. I was actually shocked as several targets were unobtainable in the reef. I was relieved as it was getting late and the surf wasn’t subsiding. I looked over at Frank and said, “Got it!” He was like, “Really?” In the scoop lets start walking ashore and I’ll show you. I didn’t want to take a chance dropping the ring back on the reef. Frank was so thankful and still had a look of disbelief. Frank texted a pic to his wife and was so thankful his 20th ended on a high note. Aloha to Frank!

Vintage Diamond Ring Lost at Winery in Malibu, CA…Found in a most Precarious Place and Returned.

  • from Redondo Beach (California, United States)

I was on my way to metal detect one of the beaches today, so I guess it was appropriate for me to get the call from Cassandra about losing her ring yesterday. She had been at a winery, and out on the back balcony when she inadvertently dropped  her ring. Below was a narrow ledge where she saw the ring fall to, and was certain it was still there.

When I met Cassandra at the winery she took me to the area, which was very steep. The ledge she believed the ring to have fallen onto was about 1 foot wide, and thickly covered in grass and bushes. The ledge was also about 20 feet above a shallow concrete creek bed. I first went down to see how difficult it would be to use my equipment, and decided I could do it. When I got back with my equipment she pointed out the spot she believed the ring had fallen. With one hand holding onto the rocks, I proceeded to scan the area with my 6 inch coil. It wasn’t long before I received a good signal. I pulled out my pin pointer to check, and when I moved some of the shrubs I saw the ring positioned precariously on the very edge of the ledge. I then gingerly reached down and plucked it from danger, and showed it to a very excited Cassandra. I believe her smile tells it all. What fun, what a great day!

4 Tiffany & Co. Silver Rings Lost at Venice Beach, CA…Found and Returned.

  • from Redondo Beach (California, United States)

Chris called this evening to ask my assistance in helping find a lost ring. I told him I would be glad to help, and I was on my way.

When I got to the beach Chris informed me that there were 4 rings lost, all Tiffany & Co. silver. His fiance’ Sarah had taken them off to apply sunscreen and put them on her towel. Forgetting she had done this, when they were ready to leave she picked up her towel and left. It wasn’t until they got to the car she realized her mistake. Chris and Sarah were about to head home to Sacramento, so instead of wasting time trying to search the sand themselves Chris did the thing he does well, and got on the internet for some ring finding research. He found me on The Ring Finder’s web page.

Chris led me to the area, and after talking to him and asking a few questions we both agreed the rings should be near where they were sitting, so I proceeded to begin my search there, and expand out. I think I made about 3 passes of my grid when I got a nice high tone (quarter sound) in my head phones. I dug the first ring in 1 scoop, scanned again and got the second ring. It ended up being one ring per scoop. She was so happy to have them back on her fingers. I just got a text from Chris on their 400 mile drive back home, who said that Sarah has been sleeping most of the way. I know she was able to relax, having her rings, that mean so much to her, rescued from the sea of sand they were lost in. Great day, more great smiles.
