Find of a life time is a common phrase heard in the metal detecting community. It has a different definition than what you will find in this story. Last Monday I got a text concerning a very special lost ring in Natick, MA. A very common story where the parents were playing with the children in the back yard when one action or another dislodged the women’s ring from her finger. The play immediately ceased and the family spent the rest of the daylight looking for the lost ring with no success.
When I arrived at the home the first thing I noticed was the landscaping. The ground in the back yard reminded me of a green and brown loop pile carpeting. In other words there was no real place for a ring to go, so I figured Id be out there in a few minutes flat. Well after 30 minutes of covering the entire back yard with a grid search I came up empty I expanded the search to around corners, under and in any yard toys, and on and in a small shed, but still a big nothing. At that point I made a joke about climbing over into the neighbors yard or checking the gutters. The next words out of my mouth were, “Do you have a ladder?” I am still not sure what that look on Jennifer’s face meant! I got the ladder to check the gutters, but as it turned out they were not going to need a handyman to come by later this fall to clean them out and the roof was pretty much debris free also except for a large platinum ring with 8 crazy diamonds.
Two people playing keep away, an air filled ball, a loose ring, and of course physics will send a ring flying every time. Hope I can attache video and be careful it’s a little loud, but pay attention to the wife and not me. She was very happy!

On October 16th I was outside playing ball with my family. I reached up with both my hands to catch the ball and I felt my wedding ring come off my finger. All of us immediately started looking for it. My husband
marked the spot where i was and we continued to search. After 1/2 hour my husband decided to go buy a metal detector. My kids went inside and I stayed outside walking back and forth through the yard. My husband returned
and he began to search with the metal detector, still no luck. After 3 hours of nonstop searching i had to come inside to cook dinner. I began to feel hopeless. I have had my wedding ring for 10 years and I felt I had lost a piece
of myself. My husband searched online and he came across ring finders. We contacted Guy and he asked if we wanted him to come out that night or the next day. We agreed that he would come out the next day. I anxiously waited for him
to arrive and was hopeful that he’d be able to find it. The morning I met Guy he asked were the action took place I took him to the backyard. He asked where we were playing and where I thought the ring would be. He began his search
walking up and down the yard. He said the ring might have went over the fence and we might need to search the neighbors yard also. I guess anything could have been a possibility because where I thought it was we weren’t having any
luck. He also had asked if I had a ladder so he could check the gutters/roof. I was thinking that there was no way that it could be in the gutters or on the roof with the way that it had came off my finger. I gave him the ladder from
the shed. He climbed up and was looking all the while I was thinking I should get ready to go ask the neighbors if he could search their yard then Guy pulled out his phone I didn’t realize it then but he was recording this moment
because he had found my ring. I would have never in a million years thought that it was up on the roof. I still get emotional thinking about the moment it was back on my finger. It must have hit the ball in mid air and that’s
how it ended up on the roof. I appreciate Guy so much for his patience and thinking outside the box. I am forever grateful.
Hello Guy this is Jennifer Edwards I apologize for the huge delay in this email but here it is.
Waylon called me Thursday around noon to ask if I could help him find his wedding ring. Apparently while throwing some sticks and debris into the woods he felt his ring slide off of his finger and actually caught a glimpse of it as it sailed into the brush! After searching the area he soon realized he needed the help of a metal detector. He rented a cheap detector and searched the area but only found a few cans and bits of metal. And after 13 years of marriage and a wedding anniversary coming up in December, Waylon was anxious to find his ring.
When I asked for an address of where I could meet Waylon, he mentioned the area where he lost his ring was a new subdivision and he decided to drop me a pin of the exact location. Google maps is an amazing feature and an hour later I arrived at the site. It took me a few minutes to find the side walk and wooded area where Waylon had searched for his ring. I set out 2 flags and fired up my DFX. I usually search in Coin and Jewelry mode and have a fairly good idea of what my detector tells me when I go over different kinds of metals. My first pass was in the grass and my second pass was just into the edge of the woods. There were thick clumps of grass and brier bushes with sticks and weeds. I figured if I do not find it in the second pass then it could turn into a long tough search–as the bushes only got thicker and more of a tangled mess! But as I was ending my second pass I got a good signal. So using my trusty Garrett pro pointer, I scraped the dirt to see how deep the item was and as I brushed the dirt aside there was Waylon’s ring pressed into the ground.
As I picked up the ring and cleaned it off I realized that I had not gotten a good description from Waylon as to what exactly his ring looked like. So in a text I asked him to describe his ring. Sure enough it was his ring. I changed my boots and got some water to clean his ring and then sat down to wait for Waylon to arrive.
Fifteen minutes later Waylon drove up and I presented him with his ring!
What an honor and a pleasure it has been to help Waylon and his wife! And I encouraged him to get that ring resized and have an early Happy Anniversary!

Monday, the 10th of October, I got a text message from a gentlemen named Vic asking me if I could help him find his custom made 22K wedding ring. Vic, his wife, and close friends, had been enjoying Columbus day at one of the largest State Parks in Southeastern New Hampshire, when he encountered what would perfectly describe the ideal situation for loosing a ring, it was dusk, he was in the frigid waters of Lake Pawtuckaway, and lastly he was playing catch with a Frisbee.
Straight out about 20 yards from the rocks in the first photo was where the ring ended up being found. Vic was happily reunited with his beautiful ring and he learned a good lesson, but I will have to admit I learned a lesson too, never give up and always remember the basics. I looked for Vic’s ring for two hours before deciding I needed a break. I was cold and kind of light headed from splashing around in the cold lake water, so Vic and I sat down to warm up in the sun and he set out telling me how it’s a custom where he’s from for each partner to have the others ring custom made and how they do not see the ring until it goes on their finger at the wedding. Turns out the designs each one chose was almost identical, which in their opinion was pretty awesome.
I listened to Vic’s story again on how he lost his ring and being it rang so true to how a ring is lost I had to determine one of two things was going on, concerning me not finding the ring yet, my detector was not working correctly or the ring fell on or near a piece of iron and my machine was discriminating out the iron and the ring at the same time. I proceeded to start my hunt over in all metal mode and dig everything that beeped and a long story short I got a hit on a couple of objects side by side, scooped them up and had a bobby pin, a small nail, and a 22K gold ring. Turned out to be a gorgeous day!
I received a call from Maxim who explained to me that he had lost his car key as he was walking to the water to go surfing about 6:30 in the morning. I got the call about 11:00 AM, and he told me he had been searching for the key all morning. I told him I would be there quickly.
When I got to the location Maxim was waiting for me. I found out that he had lost his only key to his car, so there was really no where for him to go until it was found. He showed me the area where he thought it was lost, and I could see where he had searched by the grid lines in the sand made from his hands and feet dragging in the sand. I set to grid the same area, because he was so sure of where it had dropped, and I knew that sand will move things around when someone does a hand search making an item very hard to find. I did a grid, and then a cross grid; nothing! I proceeded to question more, and decided to grid towards the entrance to the beach. I searched about 10 feet when I had a good hit. I scooped once, nothing in the scoop. I looked at the spot to set the scoop in again when I saw the tip of the key sticking up.
I reached down raised the key, and Maxim could not believe it was where I found it. I told him it happens all the time, people don’t always have the perfect recall we would like to have, so we as “Ring Finders” have to ask a lot of discerning questions in order to help probe the memory. Just so happy to see his smile knowing he was going to be able to get back into his groove.

Lost Yellow Diamond Engagement Ring inside Infinite QX80 Found
Received a call from Jennifer last evening in regards to her white gold engagement ring which was dropped inside her SUV passenger side, Jennifer has spent three hours looking for the ring and was frustrated that she could not find the ring I told her that my metal detectors wouldn’t be of any use in a vehicle I would have to visually/feel and touch around for the ring Jennifer agreed! Told her I would be down within the hour.
Arrived at her house saw Jennifer walking around her vehicle with a flashlight and looking very disappoint that she couldn’t find her ring I assured her if it’s their I will find it. Jennifer said the ring has to be under the passenger seat but she had looked everywhere with no luck.
I looked under the seat and the only place the ring could likely be was where the wiring harness came through the carpet, in order to get under the carpet I would have had to remove the seat and disconnect the harness which was a big job! Then I saw the floor heating duct and it was possible to get in that way.
I reach in under the carpet and felt round the wiring harness to my surprise I felt something lodged in between the harness and the duct managed to get my finger in to what felt like a ring and pulled it out, I showed Jennifer and asked is this your ring? She burst out crying with joy and very happy that her ring was back on her finger.

I was just about to go trade the XP Sport for my trusty Dualfield PI when I got a faint sound, scoop and nothing but it got louder, scoop again and there she is. Stoked to be able to help and this group was fun to hunt for.

I got the call this morning a little before 8am as I was about to leave and meet up with a detecting buddy for some old property hunting. Kim had lost her wedding band/engagement ring combo in the dry sand so my morning plans would have to be delayed a bit. Instead, I hot footed it over the the Silver Strand State Beach to search for a supposedly sterling silver wedding set. After getting the boundaries of the search area established, I started my grid. It was next to a block wall with rebar inside, so, getting right up next to it might pose a problem. a couple of minutes later, I get a nice low tone 12-07 on my E-trac….. probably a wad of foil…..not what I was looking for, so, I almost passed it by, but, I figured, what the heck. It was a good strong signal and removing it would keep any masking problem from occurring. I stuck my pin pointer into the sand and located the target. Fished it out with my fingers and to my amazement, it was Kim’s ring! I said to them, this is not sterling silver, it’s reading gold. Kim said, “oh yeah, it’s white gold, not sterling”! Good thing I didn’t ignore it! That’s why we ask what type of metal we’re asked to find. With most high end modern detectors, we can discriminate between metals and ignore some of the ones we’re not looking for, so, knowing exactly what we’re looking for is very important. In a large search area, that can be a real time saver. Everything turned out good and a very happy Kim and her husband John can now get some much needed sleep! Oh, I didn’t mention that they were just married and were on their honeymoon when this happened! In fact, it happened last night and they spent the night sleeping in their rental car at the beach so they could keep an eye on the area! Now that’s people who wanted that ring back! A pleasure to meet you both! Have fun on the rest of your honeymoon, a safe trip home, and thank you for the reward.
Wedding Ring lost in the grass while playing volley ball at a home in Missouri City, Texas (found) by John Volek TRF-Houston
I was contacted by Cecilia regarding her husbands lost wedding ring in the backyard of their residence in Missouri City, Texas. Cecilia reported her husband Rick had been playing volley ball with their kids in the backyard when he discovered his ring was missing. Cecilia said Rick was pretty sure his ring was lost while playing volleyball, but he was unaware it had come off his finger until later in the day.

Laura was at the beach with friends and lost her wedding ring. She had taken off all her jewelry and had placed them in her bag. Through the course of the day she removed items from the bag and the ring must have accidentally come out with them. At one point, the blanket was dragged 30 feet downwind to get a good shaking to remove the accumulated sand. Once she realized that her ring wasn’t in the bag anymore, the search was on. Soft sand and fairly large possible search area = no success. One of her friends went online seeking help and TheRingFinders.com popped up. I got the call and gathered my gear for hopefully a quick search. I’d been out all morning detecting in the 100 degree heat, so, I was hoping for an easy one. After gathering all the info I could, I had them move a bit of their gear so I could start my grid. After a quarter and a few pieces of scrap metal, I got a low tone right at the edge of the supposed search area. After the sand drained out of my scoop, I see a nice diamond ring matching her description. Cheers go up as everyone realized that it had been found along with a couple of heartfelt hugs.
