Jonathan contacted me explaining a few weeks prior he and his wife were surfing at Westport WA. He told me that he stashed all of his gear on the big rocks near the shore line. However when he started walking in the surf he was concerned about his gold heirloom wedding ring. At this moment when he went to check his ring it got loose and fell off his finger. He watched it fall into the ocean water and was devastated. He then spent a lot of focused time and energy searching the sands hoping to find his ring. Even after purchasing a pair of swim goggles and returning the next day at low tide to no avail Jonathan was not able to locate his gold wedding band. After this experience he did an online search on metal detecting for a lost ring. He found TheRingFinders.com website and started calling for help. A few other finders were unable to assist and Jonathan was told to give me a call. I answered the call and the hunt was on! I scheduled the hunt for an early morning tide with a two and a half hour drive with nothing more than a hope and a prayer that the cell service was good enough to support a face time video call. Jonathan stayed in Seattle as I headed out to the beach in the middle of the night. I reminded him to keep his phone on so I could call him once I arrived on the beach.

Fortunately the cell service was good for a FaceTime call. We spent forty-five minutes on video chat in the dark with my flashlight crawling all over the beach in search of that one specific patch of rocks where he stowed his gear. After much time we settled on one specific spot that grabbed his attention from his best memory. I keep Jonathan on the call as I walked out into the surf and this was one of the smartest decisions I made all night that truly paid off immensely.

We were amazed his gold heirloom wedding ring, having been lost at sea in the surf sands for a total of nineteen days, remained in place as if held by the very hand of God until the day of recovery. I was honored to have the oppertunity in recovering Jonathan’s ring. Now his cherished family heirloom wedding ring can live on as an example to all to never give up on hope and faith. A truly inspiring story and reminder to each of us that difficult situations can and do end with success!

This family from California was up visiting other family members at their Lake Sammamish property when Blake’s phone got kicked into the water below. Blake had a lot of data on his phone that had not been backed up so it was important for them to recover his phone to secure the data. He left his iPhone on the side of the dock while he was on the jet ski and when he returned his aunt accidentally bumped his phone with her foot. At this point the iPhone was overboard and down to the lake bottom it went. This family initially reached out to a local SCUBA group on FaceBook. They found a recreational diver that offered to come over and “give in a try”. That attempt didn’t work oudft so well for them and their phone was still in the bottom of the lake at the foot of their private dock in no more that fifteen feet of water by all reasonable accounts. Once they found my contact we got the ball rolling and the SeattleRingHunter was on the way for another Lake Sammamish cell phone recovery! Lost Expensive Carbon Fiber JETSURF Hood at Leschi Seattle WA

Here in Seattle we have had some really good weather and with good weather comes the water sports. Dakota contacted me seeking dive recovery support for an expensive carbon fiber lid he lost at the dock from his latest toy. We had a nice chat on the phone where he explained he had this super exciting carbon fiber surfboard that has a gas engine inside of the hull. However when he was moving the board around on the dock the lid came off, went into the lake and sank to 40 feet. The good news was that this just happened and they knew the drop zone precisely. The lid was brightly painted on one side and has a bright colored decal on the back side. Being rather large in size I had all the confidence that it would be a visual find on the surface of the silty lake bottom. I also learned that in all four corners there were metal latching pins on this part so if the silt got too aggressive I would have all opportunity to locate it with my metal detector as a backup plan.

As with many of these dock recovery missions there is typically a stock pile of trash and assorted items that fall into our water ways. Always a great opportunity for a dive in, trash out session as well.

Dakota was appreciative for the recovery work provided. Before I left the site he was already gearing up to get back out into the water for some more exciting JETSURF fun.

I received a call from a coworker that his friends daughter had recently lost her iPhone in Greenlake Seattle. She had been sitting on the T dock when her iPhone slipped out of her pocket and sank to the bottom of the lake. I learned it was a new iPhone so there was a good chance this phone had some basic water protections built in. We had high hopes that the phone would still be working after the recovery. After exchanging a few txt messages with Grece and a few screenshot it was very clear where the phone was lost. I told her she would not need to be present during the search. I agreed to head out in the next days to recover her phone and contact her with my results after my efforts.

Upon arriving at Greenlake it was moderately busy with walkers enjoying the park. The weather was absolutely amazing with fresh air pleasantly blowing lightly. The swimming areas of the lake had not been reopened due to social distancing policies so the activity on the lake waters was at a minimum with a few paddlers and some random kids swimming. Having the day at the dock I planned on prioritizing Grece’s iPhone recovery and then spending some additional time doing clean up and treasure hunting at this site.  When time allows it’s alway a great opportunity to pack out some garbage from our local waters.

Our Greenlake park is extremely popular serving over one million visitors per year. Knowing that this is a very high traffic park and a hand full our our local underwater treasure hunting buddies visit this site often I was not prepared to find as many goodies under the dock waters as I did!

Dropped Phone in Lake Sammamish WA Recovery

Dennis contacted me wanting to know if I could retrieve his dropped cell phone from Lake Sammamish. After a quick chat we set a schedule to meet the next morning at the site. It is important to stress the importance of taking proper safety measures whenever working within any body of water with active watercraft. Proper safety protections were implemented along with on shore lookouts to ensure a safe operating environment for this sallow dive recovery. The mission’s sole objective was to recover Dennis’s fumbled cell phone from a very specific identified drop zone. This was not a long drawn out random treasure hunt. As soon as his phone was acquired from the silty lake floor the dive was concluded and the site was cleared for its typical use.

His iPhone 8 was actually located at 9′ of water. The phone was not visually located and was only recovered by the aid of an experienced under water metal detection process in very low visibility.  Dennis reported later that day that his phone actually powered up but had very little batter life after being in the lake for the past five days.
