Engagement Ring Lost in House Found in Trash by Metal Detector Man

*** Chloe lost her gold diamond engagement ring in her house. She called me for help.  Usually I, recommend that she not throw any trash away before checking it and check the house for a couple days before I do a house search. She was very upset and when she told me details of the loss, I had to go right away to do the house search in West Hollywood, Los Angeles, CA.

Chloe had taken her two ring wedding set off before taking a shower. She set them both on top of a wrapped present that was on a chest of drawers in the bedroom. She took a shower in the bathroom that is right next to the bedroom. ( 5ft. away) After returning to the bedroom, she went to put her rings on but the gold diamond engagement ring was missing.

Curiosity got my attention, she said it happened yesterday and she had not left the house. I had to take this search on. I drove to her home in West Hollywood, Los Angeles, CA. 

After arriving at Chloe’s home, we went to the room where the ring went missing. I now had a first hand view of where this loss happened. There was absolutely no place near where she set the rings to search. She said she had already checked the trash. 

I was completely puzzled, I thought there might be a crevice or drawer that the engagement ring could have been knocked off ending up inside. I always like to have a place that I can use my endoscope camera for searching. Nothing, like that ! We moved the chest of drawers away from the wall, no place for the ring to hide. 

While I was on my hands and knees on the floor, I decided to double check the small trash bin using my hand held pinpointer detector. ( this is the same trash bin Chloe had checked).. There were only a few tissues and the wrapper for the present she had opened. BOOM!! The ring was inside one of the first pieces of paper tissues. Chloe was beyond overjoyed and a little embarrassed that she had missed finding her ring when she searched it.. After many searches, I believe that a lot of rings end up in the trash and they don’t get found. 

If you loose something in the house, it’s not going to leave the house unless you throw it in the trash or it gets sucked up into the vacuum and hauled off to the local land fill .

Wedding band lost in sand court in Rio de Janeiro

A few days ago I was contacted by a young man who had lost his wedding band, that had belonged to his grandfather, at a volleyball sand court near Barra da Tijuca, here in Rio de Janeiro.

He had lost it a couple days before and was very upset because he had tried to find it with the help of some friends but to no avail.

First thing I asked him was if the bottom of the court had any kind of metal structure. A few hours later he told me someone assured him it did not. Everything settled, I got there and as soon as I started swinging my Tesoro Sand Shark, it beeped everywhere. In other words…. there was a kind of rebar structure under the sand. It was a pain in the neck to search in such condition, however, after about forty minutes I managed to find his wedding band.

By the way, it was still summer and the sand temperature was really hot, about 60°C or 140°F. I was wearing flipflops and when sand got between my feet and the flipflops, it really burned. But the exhilaration for having the lost item back is always rewarding and priceless.

It’s around 9:30 AM when I receive a call from a young man who asked if I could help him find his lost ring. I asked my standard questions and after a few minutes of talking I realized this was a bit of a long-shot, being that he did not know exactly when the ring came off his finger.

There was approximately 3 to 4 locations where he could’ve been that day after realizing the ring was no longer on his finger, one place was the beach and for me that was the only place I could search as the rest were restaurants parking lots. I decided to meet this young man quickly that morning for the fact if it was on the beach someone could find it. We met around 11 AM and talked about the search area.

Such a nice young man and after hearing his story on what the ring meant to him I so wanted to find it, he went on to tell me how much he loved his girlfriend/fiancé I knew this ring meant the world to him. He went on to Readit and posted ”I lost my ring at Stanley Park how can I find it”… Someone replied call Chris Turner from The Ring Finders and he did. The rest is history, it only took a matter of minutes to find his beautiful ring and surprise the young man, I’m very inspired how much he loves his girlfriend/fiancé and how much it meant to him to get his ring back.

Lost Gold Wedding Band at Nai’a Lagoon Ko Olina Resort…FOUND!!!

This ring find began when I got a text from Elaine who was on vacation from Los Angeles, California and staying at the Marriot Beach Resort at Ko Olina. She asked, “How much to find a lost ring at Na’ia Lagoon?” I responded, “Its reward based and that is up to you.” She then said her husband Marlon had lost his white gold basket weave design two days ago in waist deep water. She included some pics of the area. I agreed to hunt the next morning at low tide. When I arrived, I matched up the pics and began the hunt. As I was getting near what I thought would be the last leg I noticed a gentleman approaching me at a fast pace. I assumed it was Marlon but this guy said he lost his ring on the other side of the lagoon and was sure of the location. Not Marlon! I decided to give his ring a quick hunt and then let Marlon know I didn’t find his. The other guy then wasn’t so sure of his location and was going to check with some friends who were with him when he lost it. That hunt will be tomorrow. I called Marlon and told him the bad news but asked if he could come down so I could be sure of the location. When we walked down to the beach Marlon figured a bit more to the South would be more accurate then the pic. Sure enough on the second leg I got a banging “13” on the Nox right at the waters edge. In one scoop there was no doubt the basket weave design was very apparent. I texted Elaine & Marlon a pic and Marlon met me at Longboards for the return. Vacation saved! Aloha to Marlon & Elaine!

How to Find a Ring on the Beach … Huntington Beach, CA. .. Call a Member of TheRingFinders

*** Tasha lost her gold wedding ring at Huntington Beach, CA. She had taken her small son to the beach for the day. When she returned home, she realized her wedding ring was not on her finger. The next day she drove from Pasadena, CA., a distance of more than 40 miles to search the sand with a metal detector she borrowed from a friend.

It was three days after the loss when she contacted me to ask for help to find her ring. We discussed the what had happened and she verbally told me it was near a lifeguard tower at Huntington State Beach. It was already close to 8pm but I decided to start a search because I still had two hours before the beach closed. It wasn’t necessary for her to drive the long distance to show me the location. 

The search that evening was not successful. The next morning, we talked on the phone and she was able to send me photos of where they had been.  I returned to the beach, which is only 4 miles from where I live. The footprints of where I had grid searched were still visible. I started a new grid pattern outside the previous search overlapping some of the other search area. ( it’s always possible to miss a small ring in the dark)

After almost a half hour my detector gave me a perfect solid sound with a ID number that could be a gold ring.  BOOM! Tasha’s wedding ring in my sand scoop. Ironically it was found very close to where I had searched the night before. 

I sent her a photo of the ring and asked her to call me, so we could make arrangements for her to pick up her very special ring. The next day we met at another beach that was less of a drive for her.  Always a special moment when I get to return a ring.

College Ring Lost While Fishing in Wheeler Lake…RECOVERED by Diver Decatur, Alabama!

Just after 12:30pm on Monday (April 4th, 2022), I received a text message from Jonathan stating that he had lost his college ring two days prior while fishing from his boat in Wheeler Lake (part of the Tennessee River) near Decatur, Alabama.  Jonathan said that it was lost in 10-12 feet of water, and he had marked his waypoint on his boat’s sonar graph.  Jonathan asked if I thought his ring was recoverable.  I told him that there was a good chance since he marked his waypoint.  But if the visibility was bad, then it would make it harder, but not impossible and we could definitely give it a shot or two.

I quickly checked the weather and realized that the remainder of the week called for rain or cooler weather and the weekend was much worse (lows in the 30s, highs in the 50s).  That day was the only decent day for the rest of the week.  It was sunny and in the mid-70s.  It was pretty much go now or wait at least a week or two.  We decided to take advantage of our only good day.  We both took off from work for the remainder of the day.  Jonathan went to get his boat ready, and I started gathering up my dive gear.  It took me about 1.5 hours to get everything ready–topping off batteries and making sure I had all essential dive equipment, including my colder weather 7mm Henderson Greenprene wetsuit, hood, gloves, and boots.  I don’t own tanks just yet, so I opted to take my new Blu3 Nomad Diving System (floating surface supplied air system), because a trip to my dive shop would’ve added at least an additional hour.  I’ve already used my Blu3 Nemo on numerous occasions, so I felt comfortable using the bigger Nomad.

It was about 3:45pm by the time I met Jonathan at the boat launch ramp at Ingalls Harbor in Decatur, Alabama.  We chatted for a few minutes about the loss.  Jonathan explained that he was very dehydrated the day he lost his ring.  He was standing on the starboard side of his boat when the college ring he bought back in 2015 to commemorate him earning his master’s degree from the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) slid right off his finger and into the water.  Jonathan felt helpless as he watched his ring sink to the bottom of the lake.  He immediately marked the waypoint on his boat’s sonar graph.  This would later turn out to be our saving grace.  Jonathan initially thought that he would be okay with the loss of his ring, but it really hit him hard on the drive home.  He knew he needed it back!  Trying to figure out how to recover it led him to a Google search and, ultimately, discovery of The Ring Finders Metal Detecting Service website.

Jonathan helped me load up my dive gear onto his speed boat and we were on our way!  It only took about 5 minutes to arrive on location of Jonathan’s waypoint he titled “MY RING OFF STARBOARD” (picture below).  Jonathan dropped his anchor and I started setting up my dive gear.  Shortly after, I was in the water using my Blu3 Nomad Dive System and Minelab Excalibur metal detector.  The water temperature was about 55 degrees, but I felt very comfortable in my 7mm wetsuit, dive hood, and dive gloves.  I decided to use a circular grid system due to the open area location of loss.  I made my descent and attached my grid line.  Visibility was better than I thought, but not the greatest.  I could see about a foot in front of my face and would lose some visibility once the bottom started stirring up.  I started my circular grid rotation.  I checked 2 targets, but could not recover the items.  I assumed that they were too deep and could not be Jonathan’s ring.  The third target had a good ring to it (pun intended lol).  I started feeling with my gloved hand and felt like I had the target in my grasp.  I thought it might be a clam shell, because I had already found a few of those on the first two signals.  But I soon realized that it wasn’t a clam shell.  I started feeling the shape of a ring!  I brought it closer to my face mask and saw that beautiful glimmer of gold and gleam of the emerald stone!  Wow, what an incredible moment!!!  I was almost in shock!  I shook the muck off the ring and studied it for a minute.  I immediately thanked the Lord for what seemed like the miraculous recovery in the middle of a massive lake!

I put the ring over my gloved ring finger.  It felt snug, so I felt comfortable keeping it there until I was topside.  I turned off my detector and made my ascent.  Jonathan took my metal detector and I swam over to the ladder.  I said, “hey Jonathan, BAM!!!” and held out my clenched fist with his ring.  He went nuts with excitement!  My favorite part of every ring recovery!  I took Jonathan’s sentimental UIW college ring off my finger and handed it over to him.  He said that he couldn’t believe it!  He helped me onboard, and we celebrated!  We took a moment to reflect on how this ring was recovered.  Something so small, in such a large lake, found 2 days later by a waypoint grid (which I’ve been told that waypoints can be off by about 20 feet or so).  But this one was spot on!  I was only about 5-7 feet from my downline.  I was also only underwater for 17 minutes according to my Shearwater Peregrine Dive Computer.  I believe in my heart that this ring was found by divine intervention.  God is so good, and He deserves all the glory!  It was such a beautiful day, and the dive recovery went as smoothly as I hoped and prayed for.

I packed up my dive gear while Jonathan got a few casts in.  His ring was lost while practicing for an upcoming bass fishing tournament being held on Saturday (April 9th, 2022).  I wish him all the best in the fishing tournament!

We set out on the water that day to the “X” on Jonathan’s map and we found gold, baby!!!

Lost diamond engagement ring in sand, Lake Buena Vista, Fl….Found with metal detector!

Mike and his young family were spending an awesome time at one of the Disney Resorts and while enjoying one of the sandy beach areas with their two children Mike’s wife felt her diamond ring slip off of her finger! Normally one can find their ring when they know and feel it come off and it lands on a hard surface but when it drops into soft sand, well…that is another story! Mike immediately began to run his fingers through the sand thinking surely he would feel the ring and put his dear wife’s mind at ease, but again in soft, fluffy sand that can be a big problem. Gold rings have an uncanny way of just sinking further down into the sand and the more one rakes or runs their fingers through the soft sand the further the ring disappears! Engagement rings are usually very expensive and a pain to replace and loosing this ring was affecting their vacation time. Mike tried asking the resort management if there was anyone who could help and when that did not lead to the help they needed he went online and found theringfinders.com. He first called another Ring Finder named Steve Thomas who at the time was up in Texas welcoming a new grand baby to their family–so Mr. Steve gave Mike my number. After getting the proper permission I met Mike at the resort and we walked out onto the newly raked sand and Mike indicated the area where the ring was lost. I set out four corner flags and started my tight grid search. I found a few coins and some small aluminum foil pieces and of course each time I would dig and retrieve a target Mike’s hopes and adrenalin would go up! After 15 minutes I got a good solid repeatable gold signal and uncovered the lost diamond engagement ring! What an honor and privilege it was to help Mike and his family and to give them a wonderful reason to now enjoy the rest of their Florida vacation! It never gets old….helping reunite people with their lost treasures!

Lost Gold Wedding Band at Honu Lagoon Ko Olina Resort…FOUND!!!

This Ring Find began when I got a call from Gurkan who lives in Seattle, Washington and was on vacation with his family staying at the Ko Olina Beach Villas near Honu Lagoon. While tossing a ball and wrestling with his son Gurkan’s Gold Wedding Band slipped off in waist deep water and disappeared. Gurkan texted me an estimated location pic and I told him I’d hunt first light the next morning. When I arrived it was still dark but the water was warm enough to start the search. Only a few Lincoln cents and a pull tab then about 30 minutes into the hunt I got a banging “13” on the Nox and in one scoop there was Gurkan’s Gold Band shining in the dawn’s early light. I texted him a pic and he confirmed it was his ring. We met at the beach shower area for the return. Vacation saved! Aloha to Gurkan!

*** Mohamed and his wife had been at Newport Beach, CA.  during the day. When they got home his wife, Denna discovered her white gold diamond wedding ring was not on her finger. Mohamed found my information online while researching metal detectors. 

It was about  8pm in the evening when he called me. After he told me the general location, I knew it was important not to wait till tomorrow to do the search. He said he was 20 minutes away and could meet me on the beach in the dark. I was at the location about 5 minutes before he met me at the towel line. 

He started me in an area he thought was where the had been. Then as he wondered around in the area he called me over to a location that looked better. As he talked to his wife on the phone, 

she told him there was some sort a white ribbon near where they had been sitting. 

I was grid searching the second zone when Mohamed called me over to the third area where he spotted the ribbon. Note he was wandering around in the dark using his celphone flashlight. It didn’t take long to find the ring with my metal detector after we found the correct location. Actually a whole block away from where he started me. This seems to be normal especially at night after the people have left the beach. 

He was absolutely super excited because he did not trust that the metal detector could find such a small item in the massive area of sand. It was also a very beautiful ring and because it was the original wedding ring any replacement would never be the same. We did work together to make this happen. I enjoyed meeting Mohamed and it was my pleasure to help him find such an important part of he and his wife’s marriage.

My son Dave  and his wife just bought a new house and was moving to Martensville, from Warman. He asked if I brought my detector because the previous own had lost his ring in the snow in the back yard.

when we arrived at the new home I grab the detector and one for my 4 yearly grandson and we headed to the back yard to look for the ring. After about 20 minutes of detecting I got a good signal in the snow was the shinny ring.

My son returned the ring to the owner.
