John called me and asked me to meet him at the beach where he and his friends were playing volleyball to search for his wedding band. When I arrived John showed me the court he was playing on and I proceeded to search the court without success.

I started to search the area where he and his friends were hanging out and didn’t have any luck do to other beach goers in the area. I searched the court again and by that time most of the people were leaving the beach.

I went back to the area where they had been sitting and was able to locate the ring. This search took me about two hours but the outcome was good.

John had to leave while I was searching so he had one of his friends head back to the beach to pick up his ring so unfortunately I didn’t get his picture so I stood in for him.

Cady texted me on Father’s Day…wishing me first a Happy Father’s Day…and then asked if I could possibly help her find her lost engagement ring. She explained that the day before she was out walking her dog when all of a sudden the dog bolted, jerking the leash from her hand and in the process the leash pulled her diamond engagement ring right off of her finger. She actually saw her ring bounce off of the sidewalk and into the grass. Her first thought was to grab her ring but as she watched her dog run across the street she figured she needed to catch her dog first, so he would not get hurt or lost and then she could come back and pick up her ring. She tried to make a mental note of where she was when she dropped her ring but everything happened so fast! After catching her little dog she went back down the sidewalk and began looking for her ring…and she could not find it! The sidewalk area began to look all the same and somehow her ring had just plain disappeared. Cady and her husband looked for a long time and finally gave up. Desperate for help she typed “Ringfinder” into google and up popped theringfinders.com and one of my stories about a recent search and recovery!

I met Cady the next day and she walked me through the area and explained what all happened. I set out two flags along the sidewalk and reassured her that I would do my very best to find her ring. She had a phone interview coming up and I let her know that I would look as long as necessary and I would be there when she was finished. Five minutes later I sent her the most wonderful news and she came running out to see for herself!

What an honor and privilege to be involved in reuniting a precious lost item to its rightful owner and see the thrill and relief and joy that comes over them. Hard to keep my own composure at times like this! I thank God for allowing me to bring such happiness to Cady’s life!

Gold Wedding Band Lost at Silver Spring Maryland Party…Found by Ring Finder

Yanatan’s Classic 14 Karat Gold Wedding Band Shining Bright Once Again!

Yanatan’s Friend Nadu Showing Off the Sentimental Piece of Gold!

BRIAN RUDOLPH, LOST ITEM RECOVERY SPECIALIST (LAND, WATER, SAND, SNOW, LEAVES, HOUSES & VEHICLES) WILL FIND YOUR LOST KEEPSAKE! CALL ASAP (301) 466-8644!

I received a text from a woman named Betty who was contacting me on behalf of her friend Yanatan. The gentleman lost his 14 karat yellow gold wedding band at a party one night in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Betty shared with me that there were a bunch of people hanging out on a second floor deck in the back of a friend’s house, drinking and enjoying each other’s company. Yanatan’s ring slipped off of his finger and landed on the deck floor while having fun amongst friends. When he went to pick up the very special keepsake, the ring somehow slipped into a gap between two floor boards and disappeared below.

At first, Yanatan and Betty searched  for the ring with their phone lights at the ground level below the deck. When they couldn’t find what they thought to have been quite easy to recover, the entire house party became an official search party!

With five people looking everywhere for the missing wedding band, everyone’s kind and concerned efforts could not turn the search into a celebration in the end. The yellow classic gold wedding ring was still out there… somewhere.

This is the chapter in the story when I come into the picture. Betty looked online to see if she could find a metal detector rental service in Silver Spring, Maryland. Instead of locating a rental outlet, Betty stumbled upon an article about THE RING FINDERS, an international directory of metal detectorists who specialize in finding lost rings. Immediately intrigued, she called me and shared the story of what happened to her friend’s ring. We agreed that if her friend couldn’t find the band with a metal detector, I would be scheduled to visit the house.

As it turned out, even with the assistance of a detector and an added day of looking, still nothing turned up. So, the following day I arrived at the Silver Spring house. I greeted the owner of the place named Nadu who was the one who threw the party three days earlier. He felt bad that his friend Yanatan had lost his ring somewhere in his backyard under the deck.

First, I was taken behind the house and under the deck that was located on the second floor of the house. This made the search very easy because I was able to do all of my detecting standing straight up. There was no need for crawling under tight spaces.

I returned to the car, retrieved my gear and then immediately started the search. I metal detected all around the ground underneath the deck, hoping I could solve the mystery as to where the wedding band had ended up.

The 14 Karat Gold Wedding Band “Halo” Spotted by Brian’s Metal Detector and Eyes!

Well, as it happened, the entire search only took less than a minute (if even that much time) to find the lost treasure! I finished my quick grid lines and was then searching closer to the side areas below the deck, near some patches of grass and dirt. About the same moment that I heard and viewed a promising signal on my machine, I saw the golden halo that I had hoped to find! It was pushed straight down into the ground with just a little bit of the rim of the band showing! The search was already over just shortly after it had begun!

Apparently, someone at the party that night who was helping to search for the ring under the deck, accidentally stepped on the ring and pushed it far enough into the ground so that it made it much more difficult to be identified. In addition to that, unless one had some experience with a metal detector and set tge settings correctly, it would have been difficult for the ring to be recovered.

I was thrilled to surprise Nadu and his wife Mary who couldn’t believe where I spotted the missing ring! They ended up contacting Betty and Yanatan to let them know that the mystery had been solved and that Yanatan was getting his very special ring back soon enough!

Lost Wedding Ring Found in Park Northville MI

  • from Wixom (Michigan, United States)

It was late in the day when Ron called me to tell me that his wife Chris lost her wedding ring in the park near their Northville home.  I met Ron and Chris the following evening to hear the sad tale.   The very special ring that was her mother’s, had been lost while playing Frisbee in the park.  The whole family had spent many hours looking; but the ring was not found.  Fortunately, they consulted The Ring Finder web site.

When we arrived at the spot the ring was lost I produced my lucky simulated ring with streamer and Chris did her best to throw it as she had tossed the Frisbee when the ring was lost.  Using the landing spot as a starting point, I quickly found a penny that a family member had tossed out and also lost in the grass, while hunting for the ring.  I knew I was close.

This simulated ring does the job again.

Using a standard grid I went back and forth across the park.   I enlarged the search area  until I found the ring.   It was getting dark and I was soaked as it never stopped raining  the entire time I searched.    The ring was hiding at the far edge of the search area in line with the path of our simulated ring.

Hiding in the grass.

Here is a Utube video of the park and the search:

Ron called me earlier in the day, as rain was forecasted and indeed it had been raining.   “Will it be ok if it rains?” he asked me and I told him we would dry the ring off when we found it.  Sure enough, I did dry the ring off before I presented it with the entire family present.

Priceless generational ring is back on her finger.

A very special family treasure.

Christy’s Elegant London Blue Sapphire Diamond Engagement Ring Recovered and Returned by Brian Rudolph!

Happy Smiles Return to the Faces of Christy and Miles after the Beautiful Engagement Ring was Found Hidden in Their Backyard!

BRIAN RUDOLPH, LOST ITEM RECOVERY SPECIALIST (LAND, WATER, SAND, SNOW, LEAVES, HOUSES & VEHICLES) WILL FIND YOUR LOST KEEPSAKE! CALL ASAP (301) 466-8644!

Christy’s platinum diamond London blue sapphire engagement ring had been missing for 4 days when I got the call from her husband Miles asking for help. I wasn’t too far away from the couple’s Kensington, Maryland home as I had just wrapped up another search nearby in Chevy Chase.

When I arrived at the property, the three of us quickly jumped into the story of what led up to the disappearance of Christy’s very special ring. I was so happy that the couple found me on the amazing international metal detectorist directory called THE RING FINDERS!

The couple was pretty certain that the keepsake was lost somewhere in the backyard. Christy and Miles were doing yard work in the rear of their house the day that the precious gem disappeared. Christy was about to use a watering can but she didn’t want to bend the ring while holding the sprinkling pot’s handle. So, she gave her engagement band to her husband by putting it on his pinky finger while she did her planned tasks.

Christy said that she would be done in approximately 10 minutes and then she would reclaim her jewelry. The last time Miles remembered having the ring on his finger was on the couple’s patio when he was first entrusted with his wife’s ring. After 20 minutes, Christy asked for her sentimental keepsake and that’s when Miles realized that the ring was missing off of his finger.

The couple spent 10 hours searching for the piece of platinum over the next 4 days, utilizing a metal detector that they purchased online. The two even tested another ring that was white gold (not platinum), just to make sure that the metal detector was picking up precious metal, and yet the detector couldn’t even register that target signal!

Christy and Miles were on their hands and knees searching all of the places where Miles may have traveled around in the backyard with the ring. They scanned the patio where Miles fixed a piece of stone. They looked in the two garden beds where he watered plants. They searched the shed and behind the structure where Miles went to get a shovel and acquire some dirt from a nearby pile. The couple was pretty certain that Miles never walked on their backyard lawn so they didn’t metal detect the grassy areas adjacent to where the young man walked.

There were even more areas that Christy and Miles searched. They looked in the recycling bag where Miles had thrown away some branches and miscellaneous tree clippings after he had been pruning the trees over their wooden fence in two different areas. One place that he was reaching over the fence was closer to the patio and the other spot was mid way to the back of the property – still working on that same wooden fence line. It was at that second place along the top of the fence where Miles was trimming some more that he noticed that his beloved wife’s ring was no longer on his finger.

In addition to all of that information that I had acquired, I learned that no garbage or additional recycled items were ever taken to the curb and Miles never went into the house during the time that he was entrusted with Christy’s ring. No gloves were used outside and no contractors or landscapers were ever near the house during this mysterious time frame in question. The only other person that was even close to the couple’s backyard was their neighbor, who kindly helped in the search by looking around his chain linked fence on his side of the property line. Still, even with the added efforts, nothing turned up. The two were simply exhausted and perplexed by the whole situation.

After I completed all of my “investigative questioning”, I formed my plan of action. I explained to the couple how I would approach the search and then I immediately got to work.

My initial focus was to metal detect a number of locations away from the wooden fence due to the interference coming from the neighbor’s chained link fence. Then, if nothing turned up, I would search around those more complicated spaces.

First, I swung my 6 inch coil over the patio, looking around small openings and tiny crevices where the ring could have slipped into. I detected the garden beds but there was no sign of the gem there either. Next, I moved my way towards the shed and searched all of the lawn that was part of Mile’s path leading to and from the far rear of the property. When nothing panned out in that section, I metal detected the pile of dirt that Miles had been taking soil from four days earlier. Unfortunately, no platinum was found there either. Before moving on, I detected the rest of the ground behind the shed and still I couldn’t find the ring anywhere.

Even though the couple shared in their account that Miles had not remembered walking on the main area of the backyard lawn during the time that he had Christy’s ring, I wanted to make sure that that section was clear. Sometimes people have no recollection of being in a certain spot and so they don’t investigate it. Then later, come to find out, that’s exactly where the missing item had ended up all along!

I metal detected the entire backyard lawn that was probably 75 feet by 100 feet. I discovered various metallic items during my journey across the grass, but Christy’s ring was not a part of my findings. My mind rested knowing that I was able to confirm that the sapphire and diamond ring was not lost on the grass and I could concentrate my efforts and energy towards the shed, the fences and the recycling bag of sticks, leaves and branches.

I checked the entire shed but the ring did not turn up there. I looked in the recycling bag but there was not much to even rummage through. That area, as well, was clear of the diamond ring. At that point, I only had the wooden fence area to search.

The way that I tackled the fence area was to focus on the easiest spots to search first. Then, if nothing panned out there, I would strategize how to handle the more complicated sections next.

I started over by the area of the wooden fence that was half way across the property. Just as I shared earlier, the adjacent neighbor’s chain linked fence was running parallel with Miles and Christy’s and I believe there was a gap that was a foot or less between the two structures. I got down on the ground and metal detected not only a pile of dirt that was already combed through by the couple, but I carefully removed dirt and leaves that were near the fences. I did this so that I could metal detect far enough away from the metal fence and not have to worry about interfering signals coming off of the chain linked wall. I discovered other pieces of aluminum but Christie’s ring was not in that location.

Once I knew that everything was clear on the couple’s side of the fence, I requested approval to search on the neighbor’s property. Miles immediately got clearance from his neighbor for me to head on over. Miles and I started down the block and around the corner where we entered the backyard in question.

After introducing myself to Mile’s neighbor, he let us back to the fence line where I began my next investigation. I metal detected all of the piles of weeds and overgrowth which the neighbor had carefully bundled together and everything was clear of the ring.

Next, I moved over to the chain-linked fence and manually moved dirt and debris away from the “metal partition” as I did on the other side of the neighbor’s property. I used a handheld metal detector to see if the ring ended up falling in that area on the ground. When detecting near a metal fence, one must push the loose earth, grass and weeds away from that zone in order to create separation from all that metal interference. If not, the precious item that one is looking for could end up being “masked” over by the dominant signal coming from the fence. Still, unfortunately my efforts led to no avail.

When that task proved to gain no results, I moved my way towards the part of the neighbor’s fence where Miles first leaned over his side of the property to start trimming the tree branches above. I knelt down and looked through the chain linked fence to see if Christy’s ring ended up in the very narrow space between the two fences (approximately 13 inches wide at one end and then down to 1 inch at the other – like a slim triangle of space that was about 4 to 6 feet long between the two fences). There were nothing but untouched, old crinkled up leaves resting on the ground. Again, there was no sign of any precious gems settled at the surface of nature’s remnants.

I tried to metal detect that area with my handheld pinpointer but the metal fence would not allow me get any separation. If I wanted to make sure that the ring didn’t fall down into that spot, I would have to return to Miles and Christy’s property and request that some of their fence pickets be removed in order for me to crawl into that very narrow space between the two fences to metal detect over the leaves.

There was nothing more that I could do on the neighbor’s side, and so I turned back to my client’s yard and updated Miles as to what we needed to do next. I told him that unless I had missed finding the ring somewhere on the property that I had already searched, there was a slim chance that perhaps the ring came off of his finger above that small strip of space between the two fences. Therefore, I requested that he pry off enough fence pickets for me to place my small metal detector coil into that area to conduct my search of that section.

The Wooden Fence that Brian Crawled Into to Metal Detect.

Miles was extremely supportive by removing a number of pickets in order for me to seek out any new clues as to where Christy’s beautiful keepsake ended up. I carefully placed my six inch coil into the opening of the wooden fence and then set my machine to low sensitivity in order to avoid hitting any signals coming from the metal fence. After a few slow swings, I did in fact get some separation from the chain linked divider and a curious target signal reached my metal detector. The numbers that registered on my screen were the very target numbers that I had been looking for during the last few hours of my search! I thought to myself, ‘Could this be too good to be true? Could the ring have fallen to this very spot and buried itself under the leaves?’ I have seen and experienced many bizarre twists and turns in my searches and I hoped that this would be yet another fantastic finish! In all honesty, this was the very last place that the ring could have ended up unless I had accidentally missed it somewhere else on the property.

At first, I leaned half of my body into the open space between the fences and attempted to use my handheld pinpointer to scan the ground in the area where I picked up that promising signal. However, I did not have enough leverage to effectively metal detect with my device far enough away from the chain-linked fence so as to avoid picking up that undesired metal.

The only way that I could effectively investigate that curious signal was to fully crawl into that tiny area between the fences. So that’s exactly what I did next. I asked Miles to pull off a few more pickets and he immediately got to work. Then, I carefully wedged my way into the hole and knelt down at the spot where there was approximately 13 inches of room to bend my knees. I then reduced the sensitivity of my pinpointer so that I didn’t pick up the neighbor’s metal fence. Finally, I began scanning the ground in the area where I sought after that one signal.

So Very Narrow to Position Oneself Into, but Rudolph Did What Needed to be Done to Explore the Last Place Left to Search!

Even on low sensitivity, I would end up picking up the metal fence when I was even 4 inches away from it. Therefore, it was extremely important that I slowly moved the handheld detector across all of the territory that was more than 4 inches away from the fence.

After a minute of moving the pinpointer slowly from left to right and down towards me in that tiny space that I was tucked away in, my handheld detector picked up a small object below the leaves. It happened to be located in the very spot where my other machine registered that one particular target when I was standing on the other side of the fence. As I kept the pinpointer positioned at the same place where it was sounding off and vibrating, I moved my fingers through the debris field of leaves and dry dirt. There before my very own eyes I saw a beautiful silver colored object appear from below! Then, a second later I saw the most glorious “halo” and pretty diamonds surrounding a lovely center stone! I found it! I found Christy’s lost engagement ring! I couldn’t believe it!

After all of that searching, at the very last possible location, I recovered her most precious piece of sentimental jewelry! It was there all along, hidden between the two fences, buried under the old crinkled up leaves that had fallen to the earth the previous autumn season! When Miles had been trimming the tree branches above that spot, the ring had fallen off of his pinky finger and landed back there behind the wooden fence and disappeared into the leaves!

Brian Points to Where the Lovely Engagement Ring was Metal Detected and Recovered!

I was so excited to solve the mystery of the disappearing ring! I was even more thrilled to first surprise Miles with the news, and then soon after spring the reveal upon the love of his life! The couple could not have been happier and finally relieved from their 4 days of complete confusion and bewilderment!

This search and recovery story will live on to be one of my favorite fantastic finishes! I was so happy to be a part of returning two shining smiles back onto the faces of both Christy and Miles!

Lost and Found Diamond Wedding Band in Germantown, Maryland Bushes

  • from Washington (District of Columbia, United States)

Kelly’s Beautiful and Elegant 14 Karat White Gold Diamond Wedding Band Finally Reunited With its Enhancer!

Happiness Prevails Once Again as Kelly Proudly Displays Her Most Precious Material Possession on Earth!

BRIAN RUDOLPH, LOST ITEM RECOVERY SPECIALIST (LAND, WATER, SAND, SNOW, LEAVES, HOUSES & VEHICLES) WILL FIND YOUR LOST KEEPSAKE! CALL ASAP (301) 466-8644!

I had the privilege of providing a search and recovery metal detecting service for Kelly and Jim in Germantown, Maryland.

The couple was relaxing and drinking wine on their wrap around porch one evening. Kelly took off her enhancer ring which surrounded the 14 karat white gold wedding band and put it on the table where the wine glasses sat.

One of their sons came out with a stick and wanted to show them something about it. He accidentally knocked the rings off of the table along with at least one of the wine glasses which broke on the floor.

The couple looked for the two rings and they quickly found the enhancer resting across the floor, but not the wedding band. For an entire week, Jim and Kelly searched diligently for the missing ring but ended up having no answers to show for their many hours of searching with a metal detector.

Jim shared that the metal detector they used kept making beeping sounds and they got simply nowhere with it. It was picking up all kinds of metal from the house, including nails and other miscellaneous items, but not what they were looking for.

Jim found me on THE RING FINDERS international metal detectorist directory website and then reached out to me as soon as they realized that they needed a professional metal detectorist to help them. He explained to me that finding the ring was one of their top priorities because they were packing up their things and moving to their new house in Florida in just one week! It was obviously essential for me to be successful with this ring search call-out to their home! I couldn’t wait to solve this mystery!

When I arrived at the family’s home, I was greeted by one of the children outside by my car. All of the kids were just fantastic to be around! They all wanted to learn about metal detecting and see how I would find the missing ring.

After I introduced myself to Jim and Kelly, they showed me where they were sitting on the porch and where they found the enhancer ring. I noticed that the bushes in front of the entire wrap around porch area were extremely dense, nearly 12 feet deep from the edge of the porch all the way to where the lawn began.

The couple shared with me that they looked for hours upon hours, day after day for an entire week, searching endlessly for the missing wedding band. They were just completely exhausted with all of their attempts.

Once I got the whole story as to what happened that caused the one ring to completely disappear, I gave my word to Kelly and Jim that they would get the ring back in time for their move the following week! I certainly hoped that I was going to recover the lost jewel that evening if all possible.

I went to the car and got all of the equipment that I needed to conduct the search. I even brought my endoscope with me in order to look down into the porch floor boards just in case there was enough space for the ring to have slipped down into a large enough crack in the wood. Upon checking all of the gaps between the boards, there was not enough room for the ring to fall down into the porch flooring.

Next, I began metal detecting in the bushes next to the porch and I began pulling up all kinds of kiddy toys and miscellaneous pieces of metal. There were pull tabs and nails along with rolled up pieces of aluminum foil that were once imaginary play things for the children. I thought that was really sentimental and fun to uncover! The parents got a kick out of it! I used a 6-inch coil on the end of my detector to search the hard to get to places and I carefully inspected the areas where there were some electrical lines that were no longer in use. Still I could not find Kelly’s beautiful wedding band.

While I was conducting the search, all of the children played around my working area and interacted with me regarding their curiosities about my methods of metal detecting. They always had something fun to show me and I was quite honored that they seemed to feel comfortable approaching me and including me in their own outdoor endeavors!

Once I cleared a particular area of ground surrounded by a section of bushes, I moved to another part and carefully examined every square inch possible of that quadrant. I used my pinpointer to search in the branches just in case the ring ended up landing “above ground”! The hedges were extremely thick and it was quite possible the ring could have absolutely landed in the middle of some branches and needles.

The thickets were so dense that I thought it to be almost impossible for Kelly’s wedding band to have made it more than a few feet into the bushes based on how thick the whole area was down there. I metal detected from the edge of the porch to about 5 feet into the shrubs. I conducted the search all the way around that entire side of the porch, making certain that I didn’t miss anything. With my headlamp on full blaze, I illuminated all of the dark areas down below and kept a watchful eye for the missing ring even in places where I was not able to metal detect. Still, I came up with nothing.

After about an hour and 45 minutes, I decided to move around to the other side of the bushes and start metal detecting from the lawn in towards the dense forest of shrubs! Looking straight at the porch from the grass, I started at the far right side which would have been on the extreme right side of where the couple was drinking their wine on that dreadful evening when the ring disappeared. I like to start outside the box and end up outside of the same box where most people would consider the area too unrealistic to search when looking for the lost item. Quite often I discover that the ring ends up much farther than where the client thought to search which is why the client never was able to find what he / she was looking for.

I worked diligently, metal detecting the grounds beneath the bushes and within the branches above. I moved from the right side over to the left area, heading towards the front of the house. Again, I found some of the children’s play things and homemade crafts, as well.

I got to a point in the search where I was about 15 feet away from the porch on a diagonal angle through the bushes with my feet just touching the grass. I had my body slightly leaning forward into the shrubs. The particular area of bushes that I was detecting was so far away from where the couple was sitting, (which would have made it probably around 20 feet in total) that no one in their right mind could conceive the thought that the ring had a chance of making it through 15 feet of thick bushes and then settle just inches away from the clearing where the grass began on the other side. Well, to my greatest surprise, that’s exactly what happened! My detector gave me a very intriguing signal, indicating that there was a potential target just underneath one of the bushes next to the clearing of the flower bed. I leaned down to inspect the area where the detector was picking up the signal. Just as I was putting my pinpointer in the region where the metal was located, my eyes locked on to the most beautiful diamond wedding band! It was wedged up against the trunk of one of the bushes in plain sight! I was beyond amazed at how that ring rocketed that far through all of the dense shrubs, almost clearing the entire bed! It seems like the moment that I think I’ve seen it all, there’s something else that blows my mind and this was clearly another example of such a moment!

I was so happy to have found Kelly’s missing wedding band and I was even more excited to surprise the family with it shortly after I solved the mystery of where that beloved ring had ended up! Kelly and Jim could not have been more thrilled and relieved that I had successfully recovered their beloved sentimental piece of gold and gorgeous diamonds! They too had their minds blown away when I showed them the exact spot of where that ring settled to the ground after their son innocently caused the rings to jettison from the porch table!

After I shared my findings with the family, we all celebrated with the most delicious homemade cookies that Kelly had made earlier that day! I was then given the grand tour of their lovely home that they were about to say goodbye to.

Now that I had found one of the couple’s most precious belongings that had gone mysteriously missing for over a week, Jim and Kelly were finally emotionally ready to start packing for their journey down south to Florida!

John Proudly Displays One of His Most Precious Possessions Recovered by Brian Rudolph

BRIAN RUDOLPH, LOST ITEM RECOVERY SPECIALIST (LAND, WATER, SAND, SNOW, LEAVES, HOUSES & VEHICLES) WILL FIND YOUR LOST KEEPSAKE! CALL ASAP (301) 466-8644!

I got a call from a guy named John who said that he lost his ring while lawn mowing a few days earlier. He got off of the seat of the mower to brush off some of the grass cuttings that ended up on top of the mower. As he was flicking the clippings away from the machine, he felt his 14 karat yellow gold wedding band fly off of his finger.

John really didn’t think it was going to be a big deal finding his ring in the grass because he knew that it was in the vicinity of where he was cleaning the mower. He had not moved from that spot because the mower was stationary. So he searched and searched but he couldn’t find the ring anywhere. He then acquired a metal detector and he figured that he would be able to find his wedding band with no problem. That too became another unsuccessful attempt.

This whole ordeal became perplexing to John and so he went online to search the best way to find a missing ring on the lawn. THE RING FINDERS website popped up and within minutes, John located my information and called me up to seek my help.

On the phone, I listened to John’s account and I told him that I would have his ring back on his finger by the time I would leave his estate the following evening. He was quite encouraged but he had some doubts because he said that he tried everything to find this ring and it was as if it disappeared into thin air.

The next evening, I headed to Boonsboro, Maryland in order to help recover John’s lost keepsake. He had a very large estate! I believe it may have been five acres just in the front yard! However, according to John, we would not be metal detecting a large area since he remembered exactly where his lawn mower sat at the time that the ring went flying.

I remember how dark it was that evening because there were no street lights near his property. I put on my high lumens headlamp, greeted John who walked down to my car (which was at the end of a very long driveway) and then we moved our way over to the search site. John showed me where the lawn mower was when he flicked the grass cuttings off of the seat. I then asked him what direction he was moving his arm and hand at the time of the incident. He showed me exactly where he was placed and how his body moved forward in the direction facing the main lawn area. Also, I inquired as to where John was searching with the metal detector, even though he came up empty-handed. I wanted to get an idea of how far across the lawn he actually searched just in case he undershot his targeted area.

After I got the whole story from John and we covered all of the details as to what happened and where everything took place, I returned to my car to get all of my gear and then headed back to the location where I would be metal detecting. It was a good long walk across the perfectly manicured grass. My client returned to his house where he relaxed while I took care of the search.

I began my grid lines starting at the place where John parked his mower at the time of the “ring fling”. I moved across the lawn approximately 25 to 30 ft. When nothing came up on my machine, I started the next grid line, moving back towards where John’s mower was. Still, nothing appeared on my detector screen. I did another grid line across the grass and still there were no tones indicating that there was any lost jewelry out there.

A few times during my short search, I would encounter a few decent signals all to find out that I was picking up small pieces of aluminum which came from some beer cans that had been shredded by the lawn mower. I had gotten quite excited each time I hit an encouraging signal but when I looked down into the grass, there were just pieces of ‘can slaw’!

Finally, I decided to push my search a little bit beyond the footage that I initially gridded. It only took seconds before I hit a fantastic signal! I didn’t get too excited because of what I encountered earlier, but I was optimistic that I had found John’s lost wedding band. I knelt down on the grass and took my pinpointer to zero-in on the target. Just as the beeping sound could be heard from my handheld detector, I saw the most spectacular piece of shiny yellow gold popping through the blades of grass! I did in fact find John’s missing ring! It must have taken me less than three minutes to find his band from start to finish! John had not searched far enough onto the lawn. He was probably off by about 15 to 20 feet because he didn’t think that his ring flew that far across his front yard! This is very common for others as well when they are looking for their lost items!

I was thrilled to reveal my findings with John soon after I walked to his front door (which took longer to get to his front door than the entire time I was metal detecting on his lawn!). He had one big property! John couldn’t believe where I found his wedding band! I explained to him that this happens all the time! People just don’t look far enough because they just don’t think it’s possible for their ring to fly that far from where it came off the person’s finger!

It was a wonderful time celebrating with John out there on his beautiful green grass in the middle of the night! We both left the ‘scene of the crime’ with huge smiles on our faces! He was completely relieved to get his wedding band back! I kept my word to John…he did in fact have that ring back on his finger before re-entering his Boonsboro home that evening!
