Helped find wedding band and engagement ring in Coralville Iowa today!

Contact:

I had a call from Nora saying she lost her wedding ring and engagement ring today. Last night we had a major snowstorm with at least 9 to 10 inches of snow. She came out of her apartment this morning and decided to throw a snowball at her husband. She shook her hands to get the snow off and her rings flew too. We got lucky and found them both thanks to a neighbor who was happily helping to look for them.

In the middle of high season the SeattleRingHunter gets another call out for a dock dropped iPhone in Lake Union. As this was a dock drop midweek with a busy schedule I opted to take some of my special recovery tools to see if we could “fish” the iPhone 11 off the bottom of the lake without having to do a SCUBA recovery. SCUBA recovery is a labor intensive endeavor requiring a lot of gear to be loaded, transported, as a full cold water diver there is a fair bit of gear used during the search including labor efforts for the tare down after the dive, proper post dive maintenance and stowing of my gear back at my hide out.

By picking the low hanging fruit first I can often times be more efficient on my recovery efforts. If a plan fails I gain some valuable knowledge on how to modify my process for the next go around. The reassuring comfort I carry is the fact that I have a fall back plan allowing me to offer a full underwater dive recovery effort as needed.

Come along for another exciting classic water recovery as we go fishing for a dock dropped iPhone 11 in the lake!

Aziz called asking for assistance in recovering his dropped car keys. He was in quite the situation as this was his only set of car keys and his car could not be moved from the down town public parking space until he got his keys back or an expensive replacement from the lock smith. Having experience with Lake Union and knowing first hand how deep many of the docks can be even when close to the shore I knew this mission could easily turn into a SCUBA dive recovery. However having many recovery tools on hand I always try to find the most efficient methods possible.

As a first attempt I meet Aziz with my magnet fishing and fishing camera kit to see if we could recover the keys without having to make a dive. With Aziz having lost the keys the night before and having him in person to point out exactly where the keys went into the water I was confident that we may have a strong possibility of recovery on our first attempt. However that being said recovering anything with a magnet fishing kit can take a lot of patients and skill. Most times it is extremely disappointing especially when using a magnet without any kind of underwater camera system. Working blind with a magnet on a rope is often times a huge wast of time. Even with a camera system and having developed some experience doing this quite a few times its never a guarantee and more than once has turned into a SCUBA dive recovery in the end. The encouraging thing is I have many options at my disposal giving me the highest rate of recovery for items lost in the water. Honestly we don’t get them all back but a very high percentage of items are recovered and it all starts with a phone conversation about your specific situation. To add to this challenge the keys dropped though the dock slats and landed on the bottom of the lake at thirty feet deep.

Come along for an exciting underwater classic water recovery as we get Aziz back on the road of life with a smile on his face.

Mike called asking for assistance in recovering his lost 1969 Mercury 9.8 HP outboard engine. He was on his maiden voyage when it came loose from the transom and fell to the bottom of the Lake Washington. His recreational dive buddies attempted to locate the engine a day after the incident but were unable to locate it due to the overwhelming milfoil plant growth. Even after trying several of my suggestions it became a scheduled recovery many days later. We had an early start and showed up with everything but the kitchen sink. After trying several plans I eventually recovered the lost outboard with good old-fashioned determination using an expanding circle search fighting a massive amount of milfoil slowing the process down to a snails pace. However in the end we were successful and got Mike’s engine recovered from the lake.

Come along for an exciting underwater classic water recovery as we get Mikes outboard recovered back top side. Fortunately he had another friend that was on the ready to rehab the engine directly after the recovery for a full save! All in all a win for the environment and a win for Mike.

Found May 20th, 2023.

Newlywed Bailey was fishing from his grandmother’s dock. He shook off some weeds from his fingers and his wedding ring flew off. When the ring came off, Bailey saw in slow motion how it flew into the water. The family searched near the dock to no avail. Bailey’s mother Susan contacted me and asked for my help. It would be a couple of weeks before I could arrange my schedule for a search. But I knew the ring was not going anywhere.

The Search Area

Getting Ready

My son and I arrived at the lovely lakefront home and assessed how to conduct the search. My son helped me that day by hauling equipment, advising, and acting as my safety diver. At first, we tried searching in the four to five feet deep water using an Equinox 900 and a scoop. After twenty minutes, it became apparent there were an incredible amount of metal targets. When I asked Bailey’s dad why there was so much metal, he explained that many years ago, there may have been an old boat sunk and dismantled near the dock. Although the visibility was very poor in the shallow water, I decided to SCUBA dive. This allowed me to work around branches, rocks, and pinpoint shallow targets faster. Every target I found in the white gold identification range had to be investigated. It was a slow four hours for everyone on the dock, but I finally found the ring!

Bailey Smiles

It was gratifying to hand the ring to Bailey. My son captured the moment when Bailey was handed what he had thought was lost forever.

For my Ringfinder friends, this white gold ring hit at a solid 22 VDI on the Equinox 900.

Lost ring in the sand, Mantoloking NJ, recovered by Edward Trapper, NJ Ring Finder

  • from Lavallette (New Jersey, United States)

Jersey shore ring finder ring finder south jersey It was late in the evening when I received a text from Connie asking if I would be able to assist in finding a beautiful ring they lost on the beach earlier that day. After texting back and fourth we decided to have her call as it was much easier. Mark and Connie were very anxious to recover the ring, so we decided to meet on the beach in about 30 min. due to the amount of beach traffic, and also the location of the ring possibly being pulled into the ocean, as the tide was coming in. We had one picture they had taken, which would assist in lining up the location, and a few holes their daughter had been digging that day. I arrived first and headed out to begin searching. It was very dark that night, so with the one picture Connie had sent I started to line up a spot with the landscape in the background. After doing a quick search of the first spot I noticed the flagpole I had used was not the correct one, then realized many houses had flagpoles. Moving down the beach a bit. I started another search in a spot that looked promising, by then Mark and Connie had arrived, and  the second spot turned up empty. We all got together to examine the picture one more time, and found a spot just a little further which looked very promising. If you have ever been on the beach on a dark night, you will realize that lining up a small location with a picture, while also figuring out the correct angle it was taken from is quite challenging!!! Well, needless to say, after a few short sweeps of the 3rd spot, bingo, I got the signal I was waiting patiently to hear. To Mark and Connie’s amazement, the ring was in my scoop.

Lost Man’s Gold Platinum Ring! Rhatigan Ridge Neighborhood, Edmonton Alberta.

Received a call from Tyler requesting my service to locate his wedding band which he lost while raking leaves on the weekend with his son in his back yard,  he had no idea where he lost it but he knew he had it on in the back yard.

After asking Tyler a few questions I agreed to do a search for his ring! Told Tyler I would be there around 2 pm to begin the search Tyler said he was not able to be there but his wife would be home.

I arrived at his house and his wife Calli meet me at the door she showed me the back yard and said Tyler was raking the leaves and he had piled the leaves into a pile also had bagged a few leaves into a clear plastic bags about four bags of leaves.

I started my search at a pile of leaves to rule that pile out and yes no ring in that pile then Calli brought me one bag and said they had shook the bag and  if the ring was there it would have fallen to the bottom but they could not see the ring.

I Scand the bag and bingo the ring was in the bag! Calli said they had search for about three hours on the weekend for the ring with no luck.

Thank you Tyler and Calli for allowing me to locate your lost Ring.

Lost necklace at the beach, Point Pleasant Beach NJ, recovered by Edward Trapper, NJ Ring Finder

  • from Lavallette (New Jersey, United States)

Amanda sent me a text later in the evening, asking about my services. Amanda and her husband Dave were at the beach, where she had removed her NJ State Trooper medallion necklace and placed it in the beach bag for safe keeping. She was extremely heartbroken, as she wore this every single day for over 20 plus years.  After they returned home it was missing, so they backtracked every step with no luck. They also raked the entire area of the beach where they had set up their chairs and towels for the day. The only possible thing that could have happened was it came out during the day when Dave removed the car keys, and mistakenly fell into the sand. Amanda didn’t want me to come out late at night, but no way would I leave the necklace sit in the sand over night, and possibly disappear with the tide, or risk it being found by an suspecting beach comber. I met Dave at the beach within 30 min. and had Amanda’s  necklace in the scoop just a short while later. Dave was in total disbelief I found it so fast, especially after they had done an extensive search prior to my arrival.

Gold Diamond Engagement Ring and Matching Band Lost, Recovered and Returned outside Wilmington, DE!

  • from Philadelphia (Pennsylvania, United States)

Thanks for the referral from fellow Ring Finder, John Favano. Judy and Tom got in touch with me to help them locate Judy’s lost diamond engagement ring and matching wedding band. This is one of those ring finding missions where you’re thinking you have a slim chance of being successful in finding. Judy and Tom went to a local winery the day before where they met some friends and relaxed in a grassy outdoor space….both the area where they parked and sat were basically grassy fields. Judy knew she left the house with her rings on….and when she got home later…they were both missing off her hand. Unfortunately she had no recollection of taking them off or noticing when they were missing while at the winery. She did say that sometimes while her husband was driving she would take her rings off to moisturize her hands. So i figured the best chance would be checking where they parked…assuming Judy took off the rings, put on her lap in car, forgot to put back on…then got out of car. If I didn’t find in parking area I would proceed to area where they sat in grassy fields…then continue to scan the entire area. I met Tom at the winery and he had a good idea of where they exactly parked …I set my machine to just target gold signals…and began to scan the parking area. Within 2 minutes I received a surface gold signal on my machine…looked down…there it was! The diamond engagement ring! I bent down picked it up…searched with my eyes for the band. No luck. Grabbed my machine and 6 inches from where I found the diamond ring I got another surface gold signal. After pushing the deep grass away….there it was…the band! How happy I am to come through for this very nice couple!
