Ring Finder LBI Julia contacted me about her husband, Trevor, who had lost his necklace while enjoying a beautiful day at the Jersey Shore.

Trevor was out in the water when he ducked under a wave and suddenly felt his necklace flip right over his head. He popped back up in a panic and immediately started searching, but the surf and waves made it impossible to find. That’s when Julia reached out to me.

I asked quite a few questions, and fortunately Trevor had a very good idea of where he was standing when it happened. There was a rope line separating the swimming area from the jetty, and he was confident he had been no farther than the third buoy and within about 10 to 15 feet of it. That narrowed the search area down considerably.

I wasn’t able to get there until later in the day after the swimmers had cleared out and the tide was approaching low. I started searching the north side of the rope and worked the area thoroughly, but I wasn’t getting any promising signals.

As I looked out, I noticed the rope had a significant bow in it from the force of the tide and current. That made me rethink exactly where Trevor would have been standing when the necklace came off. I moved closer to the bowed section of the rope and began searching again.

Almost immediately, I got that sweet signal.

The tone was stronger than I expected, and I had a pretty good feeling I knew why. A few scoops later, I saw the glimmer in my scoop—Trevor’s necklace! And attached to it was his wedding ring, which he had been wearing on the chain. That extra gold explained the beautiful signal I had heard.

Within moments, what had been a stressful day at the beach turned into a celebration. Trevor and Julia were thrilled to have such an important piece of jewelry back in their hands, and I was happy to help make it happen.

Faith messaged me asking if I could come out and help recover her father Mark’s ring, which had somehow disappeared into the sand. After getting a few details, I told them I’d head right over. In the meantime, I asked them to keep the area secure so no one would set up chairs where they had been sitting.

When I arrived on the beach, Mark walked me through exactly what happened. He had taken his ring off and placed it in the top pocket of his shirt, which he had laid on top of the cooler for safekeeping. After a few hours of enjoying the beach and doing a little swimming, he put his shirt back on and started to take a walk. As he was walking, he reached for the pocket and realized the ring was gone.

We searched the immediate area around the chairs first, but had no luck. Then I had Mark retrace the path he believed he had taken toward the lifeguard chair. Still nothing. I searched all the way up to the tide line and even worked a little into the waves, but the ring still didn’t turn up.

We regrouped and went over every detail again, but nothing changed. So I decided to work a little farther down the slope into the water, about knee-deep. Sure enough, just a few steps from his chair and in the same direction he had walked, I got the hit. Mark’s ring was already about 10 inches down in the soft sand.

A little recovery work and a little detective work saved the day on this one.

Lost Wedding Ring Recovered in the Surf – 8 Days Later!

I received a call from Bill regarding his father’s lost wedding ring—a ring he had worn for 50 years. They had spent the previous day surf fishing on the beach, and somewhere between fishing and returning home, the cherished ring had gone missing. His father, Craig, was devastated.

We reviewed the possible scenarios, and Bill sent me GPS coordinates of the exact fishing spot. Using satellite maps and some personal beach photos they had taken, I lined up the background landmarks and locked in the search area. We timed my visit to coincide with low tide to give me the best shot.

Once on-site, I methodically searched the entire area—from where the truck had been parked all the way down to the waterline. The surf was heavy, and I couldn’t safely search as low on the slope as i needed to. After a thorough attempt, I had to let Bill know I came up empty-handed.

But this was no ordinary ring—and I was determined. I made two more trips back to the beach that week, both met with rough surf and no success. Still, I wasn’t giving up.

On my fourth trip, the tides finally gave me a break. The water was lower and calmer, allowing me to search deeper than before. After about an hour of hunting, I hit a solid target roughly three-quarters down the slope, just above the bottom of the tide line. I dug carefully—and there it was: Craig’s gold wedding ring, still waiting to be found after eight days in the ocean.

I sent Bill some pictures—he was stunned. He immediately called his dad, who was in complete disbelief. Craig called me himself, overwhelmed with emotion and gratitude that the ring had been recovered after nearly a week of rough surf and uncertainty.

We arranged to meet early the next morning before I had another appointment. After a few words and a grateful handshake, I handed Craig back the ring that had meant so much to him for over half a century.

How to find water shutoff with a metal detector, Forked River NJ, recovered by Edward Trapper, NJ Ring Finder

Tom asked if possibly I would be available to help locate his city water shutoff in the front yard. Years ago, he had done some landscaping, laying down landscape fabric and stones, thinking he would remember the shutoff location. Many years later, he decided to place a box with a lid over the shutoff for easy access in case of emergencies. Unfortunately he was not able to find it partially because of the roots that had grown over the entire area, making it impossible to dig.

I arrived at his house and carefully searched the area until I found the strongest, most consistent signal matching the steel iron of the shutoff valve. A nearby maple tree had sent large roots sprawling through the area, making it nearly impossible to dig. We had to use a hatchet and an axe to cut through the thick roots. Sure enough, about six inches down, we uncovered the valve.

Now, Tom can clear the space and install a commercial access box, ensuring the shutoff will always be easy to locate and use.

Around noon, the beach was busy, with families scattered under umbrellas and kids playing in the surf. Kim had lost her ring earlier that morning, and despite hours of searching with her friends, it remained missing. The ring had slipped from her lap after she applied sunblock. They’d sifted through the sand with strainers, but no one had any luck.

That’s when she decided to call NJ Ring Finder.

Ashley was enjoying a day at the Jersey Shore with her family when she took off her rings and placed them on a towel to apply sunblock. Like many others in similar situations, she got distracted and forgot about the rings. A while later, she shook off the towel and only then remembered where she had left them. Her family searched for a while but had no luck. Unfortunately, Ashley had to head home, but she asked her family to call me for help with the recovery.

After receiving the call, I went to the beach, where her family had secured the area. Just a few swings of the detector later, her rings were safely in my scoop. I sent Ashley pictures of her recovered rings, and she was amazed.

While I was at work, I received a phone call from Ashley. She explained that she, her husband David, and their kids had been enjoying a beautiful afternoon at the beach when she took off her ring to apply sunblock. It wasn’t until hours later that she realized it was missing, remembering she had left it in the cup holder of the chair. After unsuccessfully searching, they packed up and headed home. A quick Google search led them to find my name, and Ashley promptly gave me a call.

We agreed to meet on the beach, and she briefly described the ring. When I arrived, David met me at the dune walkover. Based on his recollection of where they had been sitting and the pictures he had taken earlier in the day, we determined the search area. It was getting dark, and David had to return to the local amusement park to be with his kids.

I searched the area, widening my grid with each pass but had no luck at first. Along the way, I found some coins and a ring that didn’t seem to match Ashley’s description—I thought she had mentioned an emerald and diamond ring, but the one I found had emerald-cut diamonds. I set it aside and kept searching for another 30 minutes, still turning up nothing.

Back at my truck, I reviewed the information, puzzled as to why I couldn’t find the ring. Looking again at the one I had recovered, I realized it was a gold ring with emerald-cut diamonds. Curious, I called Ashley to ask for a more detailed description. This time, she described the ring as being yellow gold with emerald-cut diamonds all around. My jaw dropped—I had already recovered her ring without realizing it!

I sent her a picture, and she was in shock. It was her ring! Since she was staying just a few blocks away, I drove over to meet her husband David, who was extremely grateful for the recovery. We talked a bit, took some pics, and headed our separate ways.

Around lunchtime, I received a call from Kim, requesting help to find a bracelet lost on the beach. Unfortunately, I missed the call as I was out on the beach as well, enjoying the beautiful day, with family and friends. The Jersey Shore location has limited cell phone signal capabilities unfortunately . I called Kim back as soon as I could. She explained that her son, Liam, had been playing soccer with his nephews and nieces when he noticed his bracelet was missing. The bracelet was irreplaceable, purchased in the Virgin Islands years ago. She asked if I could come down to the beach to search, and I agreed, telling her to have Liam mark off the area with chairs or blankets to keep people from sitting there.

I planned to meet them later in the evening, around dinner time, which worked fine for Kim. When I arrived, Liam met me at the dune walkover. I was initially a bit concerned since items lost while playing sports on the beach can sometimes cover an vast area. Luckily, Liam’s soccer buddies were much younger, keeping the playing area relatively small, about a 50×50 foot section. I asked Liam where he thought the most likely spot the bracelet might have come off, and he pointed to far end of the area.

I started my search on the far end, and nearly completed the whole section when I decided to widen the search by about five feet. Shortly after, I got a solid signal and sure enough, it was  Liam’s bracelet. Liam hadn’t noticed that I found the bracelet, so I walked over to him, to confirm that the location was in fact the right spot. He looked around and said without a doubt, this was right where they were. That’s when I decided to make the reveal, showing him the bracelet in my scoop. He was absolutely thrilled to see it, as this bracelet had some strong sentimental memories.

Lost Necklace Recovered in the Lagoon Just Before Checkout!

I got a call from Matt, who had just wrapped up a relaxing week at the Jersey Shore. As he and his friends were packing up to leave, disaster struck—he dove off the bulkhead earlier that morning and felt his necklace slip right off, dropping straight down into the lagoon between the jet ski dock and the bulkhead.

He found my page and reached out in hopes that I could help, even though they had to check out by noon. I told him I’d rearrange my plans and head over immediately.

When I arrived, Matt showed me exactly where it happened. I got right to work, but the bottom was a mess—old bulkhead parts, a tree stump, and storm debris made swinging my detector tough. After some happy chatting, they headed off with smiles and one last great memory of their vacation on the Jersey Shore.
