Lost Fairhaven Gold Pendant Found in Bellingham

  • from Bellingham (Washington, United States)
Contact:

Got a call this week from a women named Lori who lost a gold pendant. It was a beautiful custom ring and pendant matching set made by a local jeweler in Fairhaven, see article below. About a week ago she realized she had a loose chain hanging on her neck. The pendant was nowhere to be found. She was sure she lost it around her house but was all over the place that day on about a 1/2 acre of land. They have a beautiful garden and pathways, lots of grass etc.

We retraced her steps that morning and discussed all the possibilities. The grass had been freshly mowed the day before her loss and she had already retraced her steps searching the grass by eye. It was a fresh drop, about a week, so it couldn’t be deep although some of the garden beds were soft mounded dirt.

She had also borrowed a radio shack detector from a friend only to add frustration to the mix.

The first thing I did was take a reading off the ring since it was the same kind of gold and a similar design. I decided to start in a small wood chip area and then head into the garden mounds.

Immediately I got a dime signal. She has two preschool aged boys who were very interested in all this so I popped a quick plug and they retrieved the dime. Oh were they excited!

But I had to focus on the job at hand so I headed for the garden beds and in about 20 minutes I had made the find. It was about 2 inches down in one of the soft dirt mounds. Boy did she do the happy dance. She was very excited!

Coenraad Zielstra, see article below, the goldsmith who had made the pieces recently died of cancer and Lori was one of the nurses who had cared for him during his last days. The pendant and ring were hand made about 6 years previously so there was a lot of sentimental value to this lost pendant.

I turned off and set down my equipment and we were all enjoying the glory when her oldest son approached in tears and grabbed her leg.

He was so excited about finding treasures then it was all over, the hunt was complete and he was not a happy camper. So I grabbed my MXT and off we went around the yard to find a few more goodies. Spent another 20 minutes fulfilling this little boys treasure hunting dreams.

I sure love this hobby!

Lost Gold Ring at Third Beach, Stanley Park, Vancouver…Found

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

Well I’m off work for a while so this gives more time to work on The Ring Finders Directory and to get out and search the beaches of Vancouver.

I called a friend and we talked about doing a beach search but he was without a good PI beach detector.

He had a few detectors in mind that he wanted to buy and the Whites Dual Field was one of them, I have a couple of Whites water detectors so I let him try out my Whites Dual Field.

We hit English Bay Beach at around 8 pm, low tide was at 10:45 pm, this gave us time to work it as the tide was going out.

Well overall it was pretty slow and the bottle caps and pull tabs were winning, we’d been searching for a couple of hours and decided to hit another beach and I was leaning towards Kits Beach and my friend said what about Third Beach, Stanley Park?

So Third Beach it was, and off we went, when we got there the tide was out pretty far and we went our own ways in the dark.

I was finding the usual, pull tabs, bottle caps, nails and a little bit of change.

The garbage doesn’t bother much as I know that there’s always a chance of finding something good when your finding that much crap!

It was coming on to 1:30 am and I was getting ready to pull the plug, I saw my friend who was hunting in the distance, I moved up closer to the tide line and got a signal and dug up a nice gold ring!

You never know when or if the gold will find you…

That night I got lucky thanks to my friend who suggested Third Beach! The difference between The Ring Finders Service and just going out on a search for yourself is that when someone contacts me to find their ring, they know the approximant area the ring was lost.

Therefore I start my grid search until I find the ring, and in most cases I find the ring.

When you just go to the beach on your own time searching for lost items (gold rings) its like finding a needle in a haystack!

Unless you live in Hawaii where there are more gold rings lost then there are bottle caps…

Well if anyone reading this blog has lost a gold ring at Third Beach this year please contact me with a full description and I’d be happy to return it to you.

There are initials on the inside of the ring, if this is your ring I’m sure you know what the initials are…

Thanks for reading my blog!

Lost Gold Ring in a Ditch in Chilliwack BC…Found!

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

I received a call from a young man that told me that he lost his late fathers gold ring that was given to him two years ago.

He told me that he was parked by the side of the road and threw an apple out of the car window and his ring that was fitting him a bit lose went flying off his finger with the apple towards a ditch.

It was dark out and he searched as best he could but couldn’t find the ring. He came back in the morning and searched the area but still no ring!

He told me that he rented a metal detector and searched the area for hours but couldn’t find it. He was pretty sure that it went into the ditch that was muddy and full of water.

When I arrived to the area in Chilliwack where he lost the ring my first thoughts were… this was going to be a tough search! Due to the water and branches and mud in the ditch.

I started my search near the side of the road by the long grass near the ditch, I figured that I’d start with the easy part and make my way to the hard part(Muddy Water)

This was a good idea as less then 10 minutes I got a loud signal which turned out to be a flatten out beer can and right beside it was his late fathers gold ring!

It was very windy and I lost most of the interview because of the sound but I can tell you he was a very happy young man!

I love my job!

Lost Gold Diamond Ring, Stanley Park, Vancouver

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

I was just sitting down to dinner when I got a phone call from a man who needed my help.

He tells me that he lost a very special ring that his girlfriend gave him 10 years ago.

He was in a wedding party and some time during the day and a few drinks his ring had slipped off his finger.

The problem with these kind of searches is that it’s a needle in a haystack.

The only places he thought the ring might be was at Stanley Park in Vancouver where they took photos or at the church outside where they had the wedding.

Dano had a good feeling and decided to start at Stanley Park, I met him and his girlfriend there to start the search. When I get a search like this I have them show me the area then I grid search until I find the ring or I feel comfortable that its not there and move to the next location.

10 minutes into the search I get a great signal and I kick the grass and see a gold ring looking back up at me!

I call Dano over to ask him a few questions about the location while I turn on my flip video camera… The rest is on the video below!

I have to say that it was our lucky day as a search like that could take many, many hours. I was just as happy as Dano!!

Lost White Gold Wedding Band…2nd Beach, Stanley Park, Vancouver…Found!

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

I just got home from the United States where I was helping one of our members from The Ring Finders on a big search that I will be writing about soon.

As I was getting close to home I received a call from a young man who had just lost his white gold wedding band. It was lost at 3rd beach at Stanley Park, Vancouver.

After talking to Mike, the young man who lost his ring, we decided to meet at 2 AM at low tide so that he could show me the area where his ring was lost.

I think he was surprised that I wanted to meet him at such a time but the only chance we had was at low tide.

So when I met Mike he showed me the area the ring was lost at, the water was waste deep and he felt that I was in the right area.

He told me that the ring was made from his wife’s great grandmother’s rings and that it could never be replaced.

Mike stayed for 45 minutes then he said he was getting tired and would wait to hear from me in the morning to weather or not I found his ring.

Less then 15 minutes after Mike left for home I got a good signal, I scooped the sand and there in my scoop was his white gold wedding band…

I called him right away as I knew that he’d still be up and he was very happy to get the news!

I love my job!

Lost Platinum Wedding Band 2nd Beach, Stanley Park, Vancouver

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

I received a call late afternoon from a young man who had just lost his Platinum wedding ring. It was lost at 3rd beach at Stanley Park, Vancouver and the tide was coming in fast.

I jumped into my car and drove there and it took me 20 minutes to find parking! When I met Mike he showed me the area that he lost his ring and I started my grid search.

I met the lifeguard who said that I was in the wrong area as the tide had come in and it would be well over my head. I continued searching in hope that the ring was lost closer to shore, no such luck.

Sometimes you can’t find what your looking for and I knew that Mike was sad but I told him that I’d come back for low tide at 3 AM.

When I arrived back at the beach at 2:30 AM the tide was way out, I began my grid search and after one hour I found his platinum wedding band with a dragon on the outside and inscription on the inside.

I e-mailed Mike the good news and a picture of his ring and now its back on his finger.

I love my job!

Kits Beach Vancouver, a young married couple playing Volleyball on a hot and sunny day  and enjoying the long weekend, that was until the young man’s wedding ring came flying off his finger into the sand… they searched the sand for hours but no luck!

Thankfully a friend approached the lifeguards for help and they passed my flyer to them. I received a call for help around dinner time and I was off to the beach.

I met the couple and they told me the area they thought the ring came off at and I started my search. There were few good signal and about 20 minutes into the grid search I had a loud signal and I felt it was going to be the ring…It was!

Lost Gold Opal Ring/Sunset Beach, Vancouver

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

I received the call for help at 2:30 pm and we discussed the search, it was fireworks night and I knew I had to search for her ring ASAP.

She lost her Gold and Opal ring that was given to her by her Grandmother…She lost it when she went to high five her friend early in the morning at Sunset Beach…

With little hope of finding the ring they stumble across a Lifeguard the next day who gives them my number and a second chance.

Fireworks attract hundreds of  thousands of people and I knew I didn’t get out there soon it would be hard to find parking.

I rushed out to the beach and met the young lady who showed me the area. I started my grid search and I was finding lots of junk and after maybe 10 minutes I got a loud signal and out of the sand popped out her beautiful gold and opal ring.

I love my job!

Lost Gold Signet Ring/Sunset Beach, Vancouver/Found

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

Late night search for a gold signet ring lost in the grass by Sunset Beach…

Someone posted a lost & found ad about a lost signet ring and gave such a good description of the area it was lost at that it tempted me to go out at midnight to take a look for it.

I replied to the post but never heard back so I packed my gear and headed out. Without the person to be there its a bit of a challenge but I do like a challenge!

When I arrived to the spot I decide to search from east to west…I’d say lucky choice as within 10 minutes I got a good strong signal and turned on my flashlight and kicked the grass to see gold! It was the signet ring!

When I got back home I emailed the news of finding the ring and also sent a picture of the ring. The next morning we made arrangements to meet.

When we met he was very excited to get his ring back but unfortunately he didn’t want to do a video…It happens

He did tell me that he had the ring for over 20 years and it meant a lot to him to get it back.

I love my job!

Tungsten Carbide ring found in Denver lake

  • from Denver (Colorado, United States)

While placing anchors for an inflatable float platform in a private lake in northern Denver Erin lost his Tungsten Carbide wedding ring. He had repositioned the float and anchors a couple of times before finalizing its location.  He had made a few attempts to recover his ring by using a snorkel mask and free-diving the site.  Three weeks later Erin had heard of my attempts to find one of his neighbors ring and contacted me.

The search area wasn’t too large but due to the fact that the lake was a former sand and gravel pit the depth of the water varied from only about 3 feet deep to chin deep. With one of my underwater detectors in hand I began my grid search of the area. Not knowing how a Tungsten Carbide ring would read on my machine I needed to pull up all metal targets. After retrieving several nails, pieces of can and other miscellaneous debris and placing this debris in my trash pouch, Erin’s ring came up in my scoop. Once again the proper equipment, in this case an underwater metal detector and a proper scoop, along with the knowledge and experience in using this equipment saved the day.

Ring recovered: July 8, 2010
