I was sound asleep when my phone began to ring early in the morning. When I answered, it was Kyle on the other end asking if I could help him find his IPhone he had lost at the beach the night before. Well knowing that this beach is cleaned daily by the City, I asked Kyle if he would be able to meet me there as soon as possible to show me where the loss occurred which he agreed to. So I got dressed, got in my truck, and was on my way.

When I got to the beach, Kyle and I found each other. He then went on to explain that he was with friends jumping to the music that they were playing, when everything came out of his pockets including his phone. The jumping by everyone caused his phone to disappear under the sand, and made it impossible to locate. He showed me the area he believed the loss occurred and I began my search. The sand was infested with multiple types of trash metal which slowed down my search considerably, but I kept my grid tight, and made sure to dig every good signal. I searched all of the area he showed me, but with no phone, but remembered him saying he had been standing in another area also, so I began a search over in the new search zone, and after about 4 passes got an overpowering signal in the headphones, dug, and had Kyle’s phone. He was certainly excited to have it back and I was happy to have been able to help.

Lost Rings In Deptford NJ, Found By Dave Milsted

Miranda was referred to me after posting on Facebook that she lost her rings. She contacted me 2 days ago and our calendars synced up for an early Saturday morning search. Miranda explained that she had placed her engagement ring & wedding band in her back pocket. She forgot that they were there, and started playing with her 3-year-old son in the backyard. 

The yard is a good size. She was in many spots, around the shed, sitting on the deck, and around the fort. The fort was the last stop on our tour, so that is where I began my search. 

Miranda went to move her car as I got started because she was also around her SUV in the driveway. I started to search and 3 swings in, I found both rings. They were buried deep in the grass. Less than 1 minute of searching. They couldn’t be seen without separating the blades of grass. I really thought this was going to be a very long search. I took a few pictures before she returned. 

When she came back like 3 minutes later I asked a few more questions. She was looking around the yard, as I was holding up her rings. It took a minute for her to notice them. The look on her face was priceless! She went from being depressed to being ecstatic. She couldn’t believe I had found them so fast!

Ring lost, found and returned in Newton, MA

My wife and I were just home from a mini getaway. When I received a call from Leighton, another Ring Finder asking me if I could help in a ring search as he was unable to do a search the next day. Definitely I can. Besides, it would be another day away from home with my wife, going places we had never been before.

I called Neil and was told the specifics and that he had also contacted Kent, another Ring Finder and friend of mine. A time for the search was set for the next morning. As a courtesy I called Kent, who also had work commitments on Saturday and would not be able to meet up for the morning search. It was on me with moral support from my wife on this search.

After a walk over the area and explanation that Neil also did some lake weed cutting to clear a launch area for his kayaks. By this time my wife had made friends with Ruby, Neil’s race track rescue Dalmatian. I put on my water gear, did a quick scan over the track between the house and dock area, Nothing, it was then into the water and just a few minutes later I heard a perfect signal, took a shallow scoop and there it was. Neil’s ring was in my scoop. I walked a few steps back to Neil so he could remove the ring from the scoop and put it back on his finger while repeatedly expressing his gratitude. Picture time followed.

I always try to put interest into the “ring shot” and this time was no different. Ruby showed interest in my gear and held still while posing with the ring on her forehead for a perfect photo.

Neil insisted in buying breakfast for my wife and me. We had watched the Phantom Gourmet the day before and had planned to stop at the pick of the show, which was Ronnie Waffles, on our way home. That was a sweet, happy ending to an anguishing day Neil had experienced. A perfect ending to an outstanding week.

Lost Hierloom 22k Gold Bracelet.. Venice Beach Pier, CA. .. Found by Stan the Metal Detector Man

…. Jas is a college student who lost an irreplaceable heirloom 22k bangle type Bacelet that had been passed down from his grandmother to his mother and then to him. He was at Venice Beach, CA. next to the pier. A very populated part of the beach.

The loss occurred two days before he contacted me. Jas and several of his college friends were play spike ball on the beach when decided to put the gold bracelet in his backpack for safekeeping. Sometime during his stay the backpack must have got knocked over or the bracelet was pulled out when he took something out of the backpack.

Discussing the facts of the loss, he only realized the irreplaceable heirloom was not in the backpack when he got back to his residence. I could tell that he was desperate and this bracelet was very important to him. 

It was important to not give Jas false hope. This location is very well maintained by LA county beach crews, also this time of year there are recreational metal detector people that search that area daily. This item was so big it could also be found by someone running their hands through the sand.

Nevertheless the less I agreed to drive and meet him at the location. Just before arriving Jas called telling me he couldn’t meet me at the Venice Pier. On to plan ”B”, I just decided to grid search the whole beach between the pier and the south lifeguard tower, starting from the towel line towards the parking lot. 

It was hard to stay positive because two days had passed. The beach had very little metal trash targets. After about two hours I had a half dozen coins, a couple cigarette lighters and a few bottle caps. Then the surprising banging signal. I thought it was a aluminum beer can. When scooped the target, I heavy gold bracelet banged in the bottom of my sand scoop. I had no idea of the size and how beautiful the item I was looking for. It had to be more than 3 ounces of 22k gold. It will be hard to forget how surprised I was.

I contacted Jas and he scrambled to find someone to drive him the hour drive to meet, so I could return the cherished third generation heirloom. When we met he told me he had always had hopes of passing this bracelet to his daughter someday. Now that is possible!

Lost & Found Gold Rings, Crescent Beach.

It was a busy Sunday, my first search was for 3 1/2 hours and no success walking over two kilometres looking for a lost wedding band for a young man. The next day I saw it posted on craigslist and I contacted him to let him know someone had found it and said that they found it two days before I started the search. I felt very happy that his ring was found and returned, then I drove to Chilliwack to find a ring in the backyard (5 minute search) and then on the way home I stopped off at Crescent Beach were a young lady’s mother contacted me in regards to her daughter losing three very precious rings that were gifts from her great grandmother, grandmother, and her mother.

She went on to tell me the rings were lost two days prior to her calling me, so I knew it could be a bit of a long shot due to how many people search these beaches in the summertime. We met at around 8 PM at the beach and talks about the search area, the young lady told me that they were playing volleyball and throwing a football. She also told me she took off all three rings and gave it to a friend to put in his pocket so she would not lose them. Playing volleyball they did not have a net and we’re just passing it around so no real reason for the rings to jump out of the pocket. Also it was short grass so most likely I would have spotted at least one ring. After 30 minutes on the grass I moved the search to the sandy part of the beach where they were throwing the football. She remembered her friend had fallen to the ground a couple of times trying to catch the pass.

This was my ”hot area” as diving for the ball and landing on the sand would definitely cause rings to fall out of a pocket. After approximately 30 minutes of grid searching the area it wasn’t looking good for success, until I’m close to my last grid search line I popped up one of the rings!!!

I now gnu the chances of finding the other two were extremely high in that approximate area and I was right! Will you see here on my post and my videos are smiles and recoveries, when you don’t see is the many times I go out searching for rings and I’m not successful. Most times it’s because people did not lose the ring where they thought they lost it, they will call me the next day or two sometimes a month or two later and tell me where they found it in their house or in their car. In all my years I’ve only had one search where I missed the ring and the people found it themselves. I’m only human I can make mistakes too.

The connection to these rings were very powerful, they were her a gift from her grand mother, her great grandmother, and her mothers gold rings, handed down to her to continue the story and hopefully one day pass on to her daughter or son. I felt honoured to be able to help find and help continue the stories of these beautiful rings.

Lost Gold & Diamonds Sentimental Earring at Ulua Lagoon…FOUND!!!

This Earring hunt began yesterday when I was rinsing off from a ring hunt in Ulua Lagoon. A young lady named Rosie from Mililani approached me and said a lady told her I was the resort detectorist and would help her find her lost Gold & Diamonds Earring her father had given to her. She explained the day before while swimming and playing along the shoreline with her children at some point her earring went missing. She had swum out to the buoy line in deep water but figured the earring probably came off while playing along the shore. Rosie helped me draw a grid line in the sand and I went hunting. After clearing that grid without finding the earring Rosie thought maybe a bit more to the North might give us some luck. Low and behold on the third pass I got a screaming “8” target on the Nox and in one scoop there was the beautiful sentimental earring in my scoop. Right on the shoreline where Rosie imagined. Needless to say Rosie was very relieved and extremely thankful I was able to find it. Earrings can be tough sometimes but the Nox is excellent in the water! Aloha to Rosie!

Grandmother’s ring recovered in Asbury Park by Dennis Burlingame

Got a call asking if I could help with a recovery in Asbury Park. While enjoying the day at the beach Anna’s grandmother’s ring flew off her hand and disappeared into the sand. She asked her fiancé to look up metal detector on google, thinking they’d buy one and in doing so found Ring Finder instead. I gave her a call and met up with her at the beach. She took me where they were sitting and in a short amount of time she had her grandmother’s ring back on her hand. They asked not to have their pictures posted. All in all a happy Anna and a great ending to the day.

Lost rings, Cape May, NJ FOUND!

Received a call from Christy explaining that both of her rings flew off her fingers while she was brushing sand from her children’s face and disappeared into the sand. Christy and her family had just arrived in town for vacation and proceeded right to the beach once they arrived. Took the short ride over and met up with Christy and her husband. After gathering some details, I had both rings in the scoop in a matter of about 10 minutes. Relieved, Christy and her family can now enjoy the rest of their vacation!!

Beach Sand Almost Claims Another Ring in Seaside Park NJ, Found by Dave Milsted the Metal Detecting Man

Charlotte called me yesterday asking if I could find her ring. She was on the beach playing a tossing game. When she tossed she lost her ring. I had plans today but told her I could be there this morning, bright & early. She agreed.

I got to the beach at 7:30 am. It was empty & I got an excellent free parking spot! She told me she was to the right of the trash cans, so I texted her saying I was there and started to search before she got there. Within 5 minutes I had an awesome shallow tone on the detector. I scooped up the sand and had a big silver ring in my hands. 

I was very surprised that I found it before she arrived. As I was taking pictures of the ring, Charlotte arrived. I asked her what her ring looked like, as I was going to surprise her when she described it to me. She said it was a yellow gold ring with a pearl in the center. Oh, that is not the ring I found, bonus!

She showed me the area she was in when she lost her ring. The ring was her grandmother’s ring, which has a lot of sentimental value attached to it. She said she spent several hours sifting through the sand with family looking for it. She is in the area for a family reunion. She explained to me that just last week she lost another ring on a beach in Virginia, that a family friend found with a metal detector. She didn’t learn a lesson with that loss. 

I started to grid the area she sent me to. Within 5 minutes I had that special gold tone on my detector, scooped and there was her ring. She was so happy & relieved. I asked her if she learned any lessons. She said YES, I’m never wearing rings to the beach again. She had to go back & pack as they are returning home today, to Virginia. 

I stuck around to search a little more and found another silver ring. Not bad, it was a beautiful morning on the beach!!

***  I received a call from Natalie in Long Beach, CA. She had lost her wedding ring in the backyard while pulling weeds. She had put the gold w/ diamonds ring in her back pocket. When she returned to the house the ring was not in her pocket. 

I was able to meet her a few hours later. Natalie showed me the small backyard explaining that she had also had her cellphone in the same pocket as her wedding ring. Evidently the ring came out of her pocket when the she used the cellphone. This is not the first time I’ve heard this same story. It happens quite often because these cellphones have a lip that can drag loose items out of a pocket.

I started by checking the pile of weeds that had been pulled. Then I began the grid search of the 40’x 40’ lawn. It is an older piece of property with a lot of pieces of metal trash in the lawn. I usually search in all metal mode setting with my metal detector. This being a small yard I discriminated out the ferrous metals. 

Halfway through the yard I had two similar signals very close to each other. One was a pull tab and the other was Natalie’s beautiful gold diamond wedding ring. It was another successful ring recovery. Natalie was very happy and relieved that she didn’t have to lose sleep worrying about if she could find her ring.
