I received a call from Saba about her lost wedding ring. She had been at a surf camp earlier in the day, and put her rings into a bag so they would not get lost. When they were ready to leave the bag was lifted, and the rings fell into the sand and disappeared. She and her friends looked and were able to find her engagement ring, but not the wedding band. I let her know that I could come immediately, but she said she might buy a detector also in order to search herself. I did try to discourage that action, because most of the time it just discourages the people I want to help when they try to use equipment they are not used to.

When I got to the beach Saba and her friends met me and showed me where the group had been, and where they had found the other ring. I geared up to do the search, and out came the detector she had purchased. They did try, but to no avail. I searched for about 15 minutes in a tight grid with them working right in front of me the whole way. Right behind them I received a great signal in an area that was searched by their detector just minutes before. I dug, and in my scoop was Saba’s ring. Needless to say she was very happy to have it back!

Ryan was at the beach with his wife, and they lost their house key, which made it impossible to get into the house without calling a locksmith. He called and asked if I could help, and I let him know that I would be right over to do a search for him.

I got to the beach, and Ryan met me and took me to the spot that they had been earlier. He showed me where they had been sitting, and I could see where they had unsuccessfully searched themselves. It took all but about 2 minutes to find the key for him, and have him on his way to be able to enter their house. Ryan was certainly pleased at the quickness of the find.

Berry called me about some lost keys in the sand on the beach. His son had been there the night before and lost his keys. He was unable to find them when he went back to look. I let Berry know that I would meet them there to do a search.

I met Berry and his son Rick at beach at the arranged time. We walked out to the area where Rick thought the keys were lost, and showed me approximately what had happened. I began my search in the area I was shown, and after about 10 minutes was unable to find them. They expanded the search area, and I began to go further from the original area, but again was unable to find the keys, so I began to search down closer to the water. After about 4 passes, and going back in the opposite search direction, I got the signal I was looking for, dug, and had Rick’s keys in my scoop. I was able to give him his very expensive electronic key back which made him a very happy man!

Dan had lost his wedding ring while gardening in his yard, and asked if I would do a search for him. I let him know that I would be happy to do so, and we arranged a time for the search.

I got to his house at the appointed time, and Dan showed me where he thought the ring had come off. It was in a thick bunch of geraniums in a long planter in front of his house. He had trimmed the plants, and believed the ring came off during the process. I searched the planter very carefully, but there was a bunch of metal mesh for the support of the plants that was making a complete search impossible. I searched the grass in front of the planter in case the ring had fallen there. I also searched the clippings to see if he might have thrown it out with them; no ring. Dan asked if I could come back if he were able to remove the metal mesh from the planter, and I said I would.

I got a call from Dan a week later that he had cleaned out the planter. Well when I got there I saw that he had certainly cleaned out the planter. Not only did he remove the mesh, he also cut the geraniums down almost to their roots. I again searched the planter; no ring. I went and searched the clippings; no ring. So I began a search of the grass in front of the planter, got a good signal, reached in with the pin pointer, and there it was. It must have fallen when Dan moved all of the foliage from the planter. Scored on the second try, and he was happy to have his ring again!

I got a call from Marko in the morning. He had lost his ring at the beach, and was hoping I would be able to recover it for him. We discussed the loss, and I found out it had happened about 4 days before the call. I wasn’t very hopeful of a recovery because this is one of those beaches that is cleaned regularly by the county machines, but Marko had not lost hope, and asked if I would do the search anyway. I said that I would, and we agreed on a time to meet.

Marko arrived shortly after I did. I had looked out over the sand, and the site was pretty dismal with the smoothed sand from the machines. Marko had me follow him to the area where he believed he lost his ring, and as we walked things did not look any better. Finally after about a 1/4 mile walk he took me over to an area that had a communications pole right in the middle of it, and all the machine tracks had completely avoided the area. I looked at Marko with a smile, and said it looks like we might have a chance of a recovery. About 2 minutes later Marko had his ring back. What a great recovery!

The Tale of a Found Wedding Ring: A Bell Canyon Recovery Story

  • from Santa Barbara (California, United States)

In the midst of my routine, an email from my website brought forth a poignant plea from Jourdan, a distressed young lady who had misplaced her wedding ring. Perched on the edge of a steep canyon in Bell Canyon, a secluded enclave near Los Angeles, her ring had inexplicably found its way over the balcony railing and into the rugged terrain below. Determined to reunite Jourdan with her cherished possession, we swiftly arranged a rendezvous at her residence.

Navigating the treacherous landscape—a labyrinth of jagged rocks, tangled brush, and unforgiving inclines—proved to be no small feat. With precision and patience, I scoured the terrain during my initial four-hour visit, sifting through an array of metal debris that littered the canyon floor. Despite my exhaustive efforts, the ring remained elusive, prompting a return trip in pursuit of closure.

As daylight dawned on the appointed day, Jourdan and I embarked on a mission to recreate the fateful moment. Using makeshift decoys, we simulated the trajectory of the lost ring, offering vital insights into its potential whereabouts. For hours on end, I meticulously combed the terrain, my metal detector and pinpointer serving as indispensable tools in the quest for recovery.

Just when hope seemed to wane, a faint signal emerged from the depths of a dense thicket—a subtle yet unmistakable indication of the ring’s presence. With bated breath, I maneuvered through the undergrowth, inching closer to the elusive target. And there, nestled amidst the foliage, lay the object of our search: Jourdan’s wedding ring, gleaming softly in the dappled sunlight.

In that moment of triumph, gratitude overflowed as I offered a silent prayer of thanks for divine guidance. With jubilation, I relayed the news to Jourdan, whose joyous response echoed through the canyon. Together, we bestowed blessings upon the recovered ring, a symbol of enduring love and resilience.

Ring lost at Mission Beach Found

  • from La Jolla (California, United States)

Trevor was throwing a football around at Mission Beach with a group of friends when his wedding ring flew off during one of his throws. Nobody saw it land in the dry sand, so, trying to find it was hopeless without the proper equipment and knowledge to use it. Trevor’s friend Matt found my contact information and gave me a call. I gathered my gear and hit the road with my wife so she could circle with the car in case we couldn’t find parking. I contacted Matt when I arrived and soon Trevor and some of his friends met me on the beach. I got the low down on how the ring was lost, the search area, and it’s approximate landing spot. This beach stays pretty clean with all the detectorists these days, so, targets were few and far between. After just a few pieces of foil, a couple of bottle caps and a half dozen passes later, I finally got a solid signal in the range I would expect Trevor’s ring to be in. A night in the dog house averted, and a happy Trevor has his precious back again. Thanks for the reward.

A Heartfelt Reunion: Recovering a Lost Wedding Ring After 14 Years in Santa Clarita

  • from Santa Barbara (California, United States)

Several months ago, Stephanie reached out to me with a plea for help: her father-in-law’s wedding ring had vanished into the depths of their backyard, and she wondered if I could assist in the search. Due to scheduling constraints, it wasn’t until today that I could embark on the quest. Arriving at the residence, I met Sheryl, Stephanie’s mother-in-law, who recounted the tale of the lost ring—a mystery spanning over 14 years.

The circumstances surrounding the ring’s disappearance were shrouded in uncertainty. It was suspected that the ring had slipped off during a routine yard-mowing session, a task made challenging by her husband’s medical condition, which necessitated temporarily shifting the ring’s position on his finger. Despite their efforts to locate it, the ring remained elusive, leaving behind a void that lingered in the hearts of their family.

Undeterred by the odds stacked against us, I commenced the search, methodically combing through the expanse of the yard. Amidst a slew of discarded nickels and aluminum can slaw, the ring remained concealed, evading detection until the very end. As I reached the final stretch of the yard, a faint signal—13-15 on my metal detector—beckoned me to investigate further. Hesitant yet compelled by an inexplicable intuition, I plunged into the earth, bracing myself for what lay beneath.

Eight inches below the surface, buried beneath layers of soil and sod, lay the long-lost ring—a testament to resilience and enduring love. With trembling hands, I emerged from the depths, clutching the precious artifact that had eluded discovery for over a decade. The moment of revelation, as I presented the ring to Sheryl, was nothing short of magical—a culmination of hope, faith, and unwavering determination.

In that fleeting instant, tears mingled with laughter as the weight of 14 years of longing dissolved into sheer joy. It was a reminder of the extraordinary power of perseverance and the miraculous ways in which fate intertwines with human endeavor.
