Help with lost ring

Good Evening,

My husband lost his brand new wedding ring this evening at a beach volleyball court in Lendrum in Edmonton tonight. We have been unable to locate it ourselves this evening and wonder when your next availability is?

Knowing how critical this search was I immediately e-mailed her back asking her to call me.  Within ten minutes her husband Mitchell called to explain how he had lost his ring, so I agreed to meet Mitchell within 30 minutes at the court.

When I arrived at the volleyball court the heavens opened up and it poured. The court quickly started to flood. Mitchell told me he just got married to Samantha six weeks ago which made me even more determined that the ring had to be back on his finger quickly.

I told Mitchell to show me exactly where and how he lost his ring! Mitchell was close to the net so his ring either flew ahead of him or to the back of him.  Of course the court is filling up with water making it seem like a soup bowl.

Within twenty minute I received a wonderful tone from his 14k gold ring buried in the sand.  The look on Mitchell face said it all.

Lost diamond ring in surf, Ormond Beach, Florida….found with metal detector!

Geoff emailed me after searching the web for someone to help find his daughters lost engagement ring in the churning ocean! She had just gotten the ring a few months before and the poor young lady had been crying for the last three days. So many times it happens….folks receive or purchase a nice piece of jewelry and then in a moment….it is gone! In this case they were enjoying the beach, the water and the waves and as they were wading out into the surf all it took was one split second for an unexpected wave to hit them while their backs were turned and BAM!! We all have been hit by these waves and many have lost sunglasses, chains, goggles, hats, ear rings, and in this case…a very beautiful and meaningful diamond engagement ring.

Geoff, the young lady’s father, was also heart broken for his daughters loss and wanted to do all in his power to help find her ring. And as impossible as it may seem, he began to have a glimmer of hope as we emailed back and forth. I asked my usual stream of questions and we decided to meet the next day on the beach two hours before low tide. (I am also very optimistic when someone looses something during high tide because that usually puts the item further up on the beach-instead of way out past the first sandbar where it can be quite rough and much more difficult to conduct a thorough search!).

I met Geoff and his dear wife the next day and we walked out onto the beach where his daughter, four days earlier, had lost her ring. I tried to stress how important it was to try and remember exactly where she was when she lost her ring…and thankfully Geoff answered by pointing to a large hotel and indicated where they had parked their vehicle. Then he went on to show me where they had been in the water and I was very thankful that the area was relatively small. I set out my favorite pink flags, marking an area on the wet sand, to help keep me going in straight lines in and out of the water and then I began to swing my water proof metal detector slowly back and forth. It was a beautiful day and normally these types of searches can take a few hours but within minutes I began to dig signals in the sand. First a coin, then a rusty nail and 20 minutes later up pops a very stunning diamond ring. All I could see at first was a rather large diamond sticking out of the sand and I wondered if I had actually found someone else’s ring. I picked it up and was amazed at how beautiful it was. I motioned for Geoff to come see what I had just found and then I asked them to describe his daughter’s ring. They both quickly blurted out a perfect description and as I opened my hand to reveal the ring, Geoff let out a string of expletives and was visibly stunned in unbelief. He quickly apologized for his language but continued to walk in circles saying how he could not believe I actually found the ring.

Happiness Returns

While playing with her daughter in the water at the lake happiness was very high that day, only to realize her husband’s wedding set had slipped off and feelings got a little low.  We were able to search the designated area and locate the rings which had sunk from being stepped on.  Yes, happiness returns with a great big smile. Lost ring at Jordanelle: Found

This is a wonderful story. Alex was named after Alexander the Great, and since he has always loved ancient Greek history, his wife bought an ancient Greek silver coin and had it melted and alloyed with gold to make his wedding ring. While swimming with his family at Jordanelle reservoir, the ring popped off his finger and disappeared in about 10 feet of water. He tried diving to find it, but it was hopeless. He found me on TheRingFinders.com. I brought my metal detectors and my floating air supply and spent about 45 minutes groping blindly in the icy waters, but I couldn’t find the ring. The reservoir is at over 6000 feet in elevation, and the late spring water was just too cold to search effectively. I waited a few weeks and, without telling Alex, I returned to search more thoroughly. I found the ring buried under a couple of inches of mud! Alex was thrilled to hear from me that I had found his ring for him.

Alex sent me this kind note: Thank you so much Larry! This is a story that I will tell my kids about one day. I so appreciate your help, there’s no way we would’ve found this ring without you.

Cedar Creek Lake -The most beautiful rose gold ring I’ve ever seen.

After a lot of searching by friends without any luck, we were called to help locate this beautiful ring in the lake next to a boat dock. The reason the well-meaning friends weren’t able to find it is b/c someone stepped on it thus sinking it an additional 4-5 inches; thru the mud and the muck, Don was able to dig down and retrieve it.  Allows for a wonderful ending to a fun holiday weekend.

Wedding ring + boat dock = oops!

Jordon’s beautiful wedding ring was accidentally pulled from her husband’s back pocket when he reached for his phone.  Luckily,  their boat had been tied to the dock so the ring hit the edge of the boat and fell into the water.  Her husband immediately jumped in after the ring but could only stay in for a very short period of time b/c of the water temperature…cold!  He contacted us and by Don using his scuba gear was able to dive down and stay until the ring was found.  Great day in Oklahoma!!

After the mayhem … the ring was missing.

Don & I rec’d a call from a very special couple whose story is quite remarkable.  The groom-to-be purchased a beautiful ring one morning, proposed to his sweetheart later that afternoon and in celebrating that evening, misplaced that same ring (those pockets were just not deep enough).  The instructions given to us as we walked onto the property is ‘it’s somewhere out there’ meaning in the yard.   It took a while but with the patience the bride and groom showed and the belief that Don & I had we knew we wouldn’t leave until we found it.  And find it we did.

Bullet casings found in park for Mount Prospect Police Department in Illinois

Received a call form an officer yesterday who had used the Ringfinders in the past to find a ring in Michigan for a relative. He quickly explained that I was not in any trouble. (That’s a relief). He explained that they could use some help in locating some bullet casings for a suspected shooting in a local park. He asked me if this something a ringfinder could do. I said ABSOLUTELY!! He asked me how much it would cost. I said that was up to them. I’m a big believer in helping the Police if they need me.

I met the officer and his partner at the park. They said if I found any casings they would put up some tape to protect the area. I believe they were just following up on some complaint and were unsure if there was any shooting.

I brought extra metal detectors and they brought a detector form the police station. Neither officers knew how to use their machine, so I gave them some tips. They brought a bag of bullet casings. They had casings from a 22 all the way up to a 45, since we didn’t know what we were looking for. So we tested the machines on all of the bullet casings to get a range of what we were looking for.

I was using my XP Deus. I notched out the numbers that were not in the range of the casings. Since it was a surface find, I turned down my audio to 1 so that I could tell by the sound if it was close to the surface. I new from the tests that 9mm would fall in the 60’s. I was hunting in 12 kHz.

Based on the witnesses, the officers estimated where the event happened. I found my first casing in 5 minutes.

Up came the tape! They taped a large area but I continued to hunt in the area of my first find. Total casings found 8. They were scattered along an area within 10 feet of the sidewalk. Apparently there was a gunfight.

Birthday Wish Comes True, Kind of, on Ocean Isle Beach, N.C.

Sam called me on Sunday, July 5th saying he had lost his gold wedding band in the ocean. My first questions were “what time” and “how deep?” His replies were around 4 p.m. and knee deep. Whew, these were good answers because low tide was about 2 hours before he lost it, so I felt like I had a fighting chance. We set it up that I’d meet him on Monday at 1 p.m. and I’d work the outgoing tide.

I called him as I was walking out on the beach and saw him waving. As we met and walked towards where he and his wife, Elizabeth had set up their umbrella for the day, I started asking more questions. Sam assured me that they were in the same spot they were yesterday and that he was straight out from there in knee deep water. He told me that when he lost his ring, he wanted to take one more swim before they left. He continued saying that as he was riding a wave in, another wave hit him and he felt his ring come off. I started a grid search and did 3 or 4 grid lines parallel to the beach to get a starting point. I then headed out in the rough surf in a perpendicular grid. I’m on my 6th grid line when I notice Sam out in deeper water, diving in an attempt to feel for his ring. When I got to him, I asked if he thought he was out that deep, he responded that he really thought he was. From his previous answers, my thoughts were he wasn’t, but I did a complete grid in the area to put his mind at ease. After finishing the area I continued on with my original grid search. After a few more lines, I noticed Elizabeth was standing at the water’s edge. I stopped and asked her what she remembered. She said she remembered Sam was more at an angle when she saw him frantically looking for something in the water, and she knew he had lost his ring. I knew then I needed to expand my search area to the west, just not sure how far. I knew I was in the hour and a half window before low tide, keeping in mind he was knee deep. So, I just kept plugging along and starting to second guess myself. Like, did I miss it, was I not out far enough, and all the other things that go through your mind when you’re looking for someone’s treasure. By now, I was at least 30-40 yards west of Sam’s suspected loss area. Then BAM!!!! I got the 16/17 on the Equinox 800 VDI I was looking for. One scoop and I had the target, I washed it out in the surf and there was Sam’s gold wedding ring, all by itself, sitting in the bottom of the scoop. I made it look like I was still detecting as I walked up to where they were sitting. I told them I needed a break, as I was grabbing my cell phone from my rolled up towel on the beach. I had his ring half way on my finger as I’m recording, waiting for his response. Elizabeth saw it first, but was speechless with her mouth open. It took Sam a couple of second as the video shows, and then all smiles.

Happy Birthday Sam, I’m sure it’s not the gift you wanted for your birthday, but it turned into a pretty good present!
