Grandfathers Sentimental Gold Wedding Band lost and Recovered in Grass- I received a call this morning from a lady who said she was on a walk with her husband in Atlantic Beach when his grandfathers gold wedding band fell flung off his finger into deep grass. She said she searched on her hands and knees for the ring but was unable to find it. I asked her if she could stay in the area where the ring was lost and I would drive right there. The grass area was directly under high power lines so there was a lot of EMI. Gold ring found and returned to happy owners.

I Like a challenge, but an earring lost on sledding hill?
Received a call from a woman in Libertyville saying she lost her earring while her child was sledding, she was not sure in what area she lost it and the area was quite large.
I started out by gridding the hill and searched for over 3 hours with no success. I then asked her to walk back to her car going the same route she took getting to the hill and I would follow right behind her.
Shortly thereafter I hit it. Talk about a needle in a haystack!! Bottom line very happy when I found it and got the biggest hug!
I was working on my truck and my wife was making pumpkin pies from scratch. The last thing I expected was a lost ring call…but that’s exactly what happened.
I got the call shortly before noon. A lady on the other end let me know that she had lost her gold wedding ring on a vacant lot about a one-hour drive away. The lady lives near me in the Outer Banks so we decided to drive down to the site together.
As we drove, the conversation centered around the importance of the ring and how she lost it. Her husband had passed away only a few days earlier. They had been married 51 years. She had been looking at a boat motor that he had owned.
While walking on the lot she got burrs on her sleeves. She never felt the ring fall off but later that day she found it missing. A friend offered to help her find it with a metal detector. They searched for over an hour with no luck.
On the way to the ring site, we stopped for a quick lunch. She asked me if I could bless the food. I asked God to bless our food and help us find the ring. I had no idea how easy He would make it.
When we arrived, I did not pull in the one space drive but rather parked on the precariously sloped side of the road. I wanted to concentrate where they were parked previously.
As I got my Deus II out, the lady went over to the area she thought she may have lost it. The sun came out shining brightly on the ring lying at her feet. She screamed, “I found it!” She was thrilled.
The ride back was filled with tears of gratitude and memories of her husband. Mission accomplished!

***Marie called me after realizing her heirloom gold and diamond ring was missing after doing some gardening. She had actually removed some of the overgrown ivy in a small town house planter. She was sure that the ring must be in the box of ivy leaves, but she could not find this ring that had been past down to her from her mother.
She found my service on line after trying to get an idea of how to search for a gold ring. I was able to meet her an hour after she talked to me. We could have done the search the next day, but I felt she didn’t need to worry about the loss any more time than necessary.
When Marie showed me the small box of ivy leaves, I past my small handheld metal detector over it without getting any metal signal. She looked very disappointed as she was positive the ring had to be there. I asked her a few questions and that’s when she told me she had originally put the ivy into a trash bag before transferring the trimmings in the box. The trash bag had just a small amount of top soil in the bottom. I quickly pasted my handheld pinpointer metal detector under the plastic trash bag and Boom !! It gave a great signal which turned out to be Marie’s missing ring. She was so happy that she didn’t give up and was able to find someone who could help her. She then told me that she had thrown two other containers of leaves in a big trash dumpster for the whole complex of townhouses. After hearing the other possible areas of the loss, I was happy I didn’t have to go into that dumpster.

Received a call from my fellow theRingFinder partner, Rob Ellis, about a ring lost in the water at Lake Anna in Virginia. Rob and I will partner up on dives at times to ensure we have a dive buddy, and just because it’s fun to hang out together.
Rob gave me some of the details… Colin, the customer was staying at rental home along Lake Anna with some of his buddies. At one point Colin was in the water in a Kayak and his friends were tossing a football out to him around 30-40 yards from shore maybe. One attempt to catch the ball was unfortunate as this is when his wedding ring came off his finger and he watched it quickly sink out of site. Colin gave Rob and I relatively good area of where the Kayak was as he’d had a photo taken, this was very fortunate and good thinking.
Rob and I suited up, we’d both brought our dive flags to ensure (hopefully) safety from boaters, anchor lanyards to keep from drifting, lights, detectors, etc…and we’re ready to go. Brought the Excalibur II and Equinox 800, went with the Nox on this trip. Colin was our surface safety watcher.
Visibility was poor at best, typical of Lake Anna, maybe 6-8 inches with massive particulates. At the bottom though visibility was near zero! Rob started to conduct a search grid to the left and I started in the opposite direction on the right. After surfacing once or twice Colin directed me a little more to the right of the current location I was searching, I dove back down. With visibility at zero all finds with the Equinox 800 had to be hand fed/felt then brought directly up to my mask in an attempt to see it…and THEN…BANG..a nice sound..but it was hard to read the screen on the Nox so I grabbed where the hit had come from and came up with something that felt round in my hand. I still wasn’t sure…maybe it was another fishing weight…got it closer and there it was packed in with Lake Anna mud. I rolled my finger over the ’roundness’ of the ring under water to make sure it was what I thought it was….
Colin was ecstatic his ring could have even been found in this massive lake, he could not have been happier to have it returned.
Thank you Rob for allowing me to join you on this hunt! Always fun hanging out with you! You usually make the finds, but this one was mine LOL!!

I received a call from Daniel about his wedding ring he’d lost on his sheep farm in Roundhill, Virginia. Daniel had shot a deer on his property and was processing the deer in the field. It was starting to get a little late and Daniel was trying to get done so he could get back into the house before dark. As he was cleaning out the deer he shook blood from his hands and realized his ring flew off at the same time! He did a little searching but couldn’t locate the ring, thus the call to me the next day.
My recovery quests have taken me from land to water, from cattle farms and to horse ranches… a sheep farm was a first for me. Upon arrival at Daniel’s property I was immediately greeted by his 3 dogs. Daniel gave me the layout of the property and some more details on where he thought the ring may have been lost. As we were heading towards the location he realized one of his dogs was missing, the smallest guy. The dog had decided to jump into my truck and make himself at home on the backseat floor..sorry buddy can’t take you home. You are cute though!
The farm location had a nice scenic view of the mountains going towards the Winchester side of Virginia. He had around 30 Scottish blackface sheep. They seemed harmless enough except for one that kept a keen eye on me the whole time and anytime I got closer to the herd, he came closer to me….I got the message!
The area was about a 1/2 an acre, not too large, but Daniel was worried one of the sheep may have eaten it while grazing…let’s hope not. I started a general search around the blood pile area and then started to widen my search pattern. After a few disappointing pattern sweeps and 45 minutes later I decided to search in the opposite direction… then shortly afterwards was rewarded with a nice big bang on the detector. Ring in hand, I sent Daniel a text with the photo of the ring. His response was priceless…”Ho. Lee. Shit.” Not sure of the context style, maybe because he’s Australian, didn’t know, but he was thrilled the ring was found and back on his finger.
Daniel, thank you for contacting me and having confidence I’d find your ring.
The story below was written by the owner of the found items and sent to me as I made my way home from the recovery – Really unexpected, and a very nice gesture on her part.

Nearly 17 years ago, on our 3rd date, my now husband bought me a diamond necklace. I have worn it almost every day since then … including our wedding 12 years ago. A week before Christmas we came up to Russell for a holiday. On our first swim my husband remarked I had not removed it or a ring before coming down on the beach. He took them off for me and ran up to our bach with them and then we had our swim. Afterwards we went to Kerikeri to visit friends for Christmas and came back to find the lawns had just been mowed by the local contractor.
The next day my husband remarked that I wasn’t wearing my necklace and I asked where he had put it? He thought about it and then made the dreadful realisation that he had put it on the car wheel while we were swimming.
Then we both realised that we had driven off and the mower had been and in all likelihood it was gone forever. He searched the lawn several times during the rest of our holiday. Nothing. Feeling resigned to losing it we came home to the Waipa and thought it would be an insurance claim in the New Year.
Today I saw a post on The Russell Noticeboard about someone having lost earrings and I was interested to read comments. That is where I saw the reference to Northland Jewellery Recoveries. I thought it was worth a try and called Pete McGhee and what followed surpassed my hope or expectations.
He said there was good reason to be hopeful and he set off from an hour away, and within 30 minutes of arriving he texted me the photo of the two items he had found: the pendant and ring… right where we had searched thoroughly.
I can’t recommend him more highly. Thank you so much Pete.

Unfortunately, the very fine gold rope chain was not located. It is likely the mower effectively ‘vaporised’ it. However, the thin chain being so fragile probably saved the key components enabling them to be recovered unscathed.
I received an urgent call around 8:15 pm from Ihsan requesting my service to locate his niece’s ring which she lost while playing in the snow. It was imperative to find this ring because his niece was flying home to Sydney Australia in the morning. After asking Ihsan a few questions I agreed to meet him within ½ hour.
When I arrived at the park and meet Ihsan I could sense he was very upset. He told me he had his whole family out on the hill searching for five hours with no luck. I assured Ihsan if the ring was there I would find it for him providing he put me in the area that the ring was lost in and he did.
His niece was making snow angles and had pulled the ring off her finger and put it in her pocket for safe keeping. After she got up she put her hand in her pocket and was shocked to find the ring was gone.
Ihsan told me the ring belonged to his niece’s great, great Grandmother and that it was very sentimental to the whole family. I began my search and within 15 minutes I found a rose gold ring in the area but that was not the ring! The ring I was looking for was a yellow gold ring with a diamond so we faced timed his niece and showed her the ring. She said that was one of her rings but she never told anyone that she had lost both rings as she was only concerned about her great, great Grandmothers ring.
I knew by my experience the other ring was close by and within a few minutes found the other ring, Ihsan was excited to have both rings back in his hand and I’m positive the whole family were over the moon, And his niece will never forget her stay in snowy Edmonton Alberta.
Bill and Brita were celebrating the day before their 1997 wedding with friends and family that included fun in the farm lake. Cousins were riding horses in the lake and Brita was playing with a friend. She felt her ring come off. They all searched for it, it was even metal detected by a few people. I was challenged 25 years later to recover it. After lots of questions, looking at land marks and comparing them to pictures that day I decided it was time to try because of the dry year and lower water levels and the cold weather was about to move in. I realized I was dealing with 2-3 feet of muck, silt and debris. My conventional metal detector was not going to work. I duct taped my pinpointer to a broom handle and begin to probe. Many trips to the lake probing finally revealed a target 26 inches under muck and 3 inches into the original lake bed. I was so honored to give Bill the wedding ring back which he gave to his wife of 25 years last week for her birthday. She now wears her engagement ring for the first time after being married.
Recovered from the bottom of the Chesapeake Bay by ring finder, Brian Rudolph: Madeleine’s exquisite 14 karat white gold engagement ring with a triple diamond set accompanied by additional accent diamonds mounted on either side of the band. And secondly, a sterling silver ring with multiple stones embedded around the band which temporarily held Madeleine’s “betrothal” jewel in place.
Madeleine and Matt were beyond excited that their nightmare was finally over now that THE RING FINDERS’ member, Brian Rudolph was able to successfully recover the amazing diamond ring from the Chesapeake Bay! The newly engaged young lady of only three days (when the ring was first lost) could not have been more grateful to God and for Brian’s expertise.

Madeleine was proposed to by her college sweetheart Matt up in the Boston, Massachusetts area. He tried to make the proposal really special by taking his girl to a Boston Red Socks game where he had originally planned to pop the question while sitting in the well sought after “Green Monster” seating section in the ball field.
Note: The Green Monster offers a view that very few people ever experience and an electrifying connection with history. The famed left field wall is the perfect spot for socializing, networking and especially for proposals!
Unfortunately, the Socks didn’t do so well on the field that day and Matt decided to keep the special jewel box in his pocket just a little bit longer. He figured that he had already spent 2 years searching for the perfect ring for his beloved, so he wasn’t about to get down on one knee under such sad circumstances at the ball park. Instead, the young man who was deeply in love decided to wait for another opportune time to ask his princess the big question. Eventually, after a night out with friends, Matt made the monumental move and asked Madeleine the golden question in the couple’s kitchen. Happiness filled the air that evening and the young lady was awe struck by the triple diamond spread on the bridge of the engagement ring along with additional diamonds mounted on either side of the band! It was absolutely exquisite!
The timing of the proposal could not have been more perfect as it coincided with a large family trip down to Queen Anne, Maryland, located right on the Chesapeake Bay. I believe there were about 16 people who stayed on the beautiful estate overlooking the gorgeous view of the water. It was a perfect vacation planned for much fun and partying – not only for the relatives and friends of both Matt and Madeleine, but also an appropriate time for everyone to celebrate the newly engaged couple!
Unfortunately, soon after the couple started having their fun out on Maryland’s lovely Chesapeake Bay, something terribly wrong happened…Madeleine lost her irreplaceable diamond engagement ring out in the water, along with another ring that was suppose to keep the engagement ring on Madeline’s finger (the couple did not have enough time to resize the band before their trip to Maryland).
It turned out that while Madeleine, Matt and a bunch of others were playing volleyball in the water, the sterling silver “security” ring slipped off of the newly engaged young lady’s finger, which caused the gorgeous diamond ring that Matt proposed to Madeleine with 3 days earlier to slide off as well and disappear down into the water and silt below. At some point, Madeleine looked at her hand and with great remorse, she saw no jewelry on her finger! She couldn’t believe what had happened! The poor young lady had only wore the band for 3 days prior to it being lost in the Chesapeake Bay! Madeleine was devastated and she felt horrible for what had just happened. Though Matt was very disappointed, he kept a very positive and calm frame of mind during the whole dramatic ordeal.
That afternoon, for several hours, many family members searched for the lost engagement ring but sadly there was no recovery to be had. The next day, more people joined in the hunt, including a couple of very young family members (one of which owned a toy metal detector that was utilized to try to find the ring in the water). That too turned out to be a failed attempt. Later on, the couple was able to rent a metal detector from a shop in the area, however, it wasn’t waterproof and the machine was giving off all kinds of erratic signals that made no sense to the users. Dozens of hours of searching were expended by all of the vacationers and yet with all of their valiant efforts to find the lost ring, nothing turned up in the end.
It was so sad for the family and friends to watch poor Madeleine continue to enter the water, always trying something new to see if she could recover her one-and-only engagement ring from the bay. The young lady would take a strainer out into the bay and with great innocence she tried her best to scoop up pockets of silt with the hope of finding Matt’s very special betrothal gift to her. Unfortunately, there were no happy results.
With all of the many recovery attempts made over the next several days by all sixteen guests, no one could find the lost jewelry. Yet, in the midst of great dispair, a new light of hope would soon appear onto the scene! Madeleine stayed calm and poised during the whole ordeal and she decided to look online to see if she could locate an expert metal detectorist that might be able to help her. It turned out that she did find such a great source of assistance…THE RING FINDERS!
As soon as the desperate newly engaged young lady searched for a ring finder on the detectorist directory who deals with special recoveries in water on the Maryland Eastern Shore, Madeleine found my profile information and immediately contacted me.
I was excited to take the 3 hour trip to Queen Anne, Maryland to help Madeleine and Matt recover the lost jewelry. I vividly remember my client on the phone sounding as if she had a new sense of hope and relief just by what I told her that I could add to the search efforts. I couldn’t wait to get there!
When I arrived in the area, it was evening time and the sky was filled with strikes of lightning. Madeleine and I talked on the phone and we both agreed that it was best to wait until morning when the weather would be safer. I stayed overnight in the local town and prepared to arrive out on the water the next morning.
I met up with the newly engaged couple early in the day. The property where they were staying was simply beautiful! The calm water and long private dock out back made the entire scene absolutely picture perfect! They showed me where Madeleine moved about in the water during that one afternoon when the two rings were lost. I asked many questions just to be certain that I had all of the facts before I formed my plan of action.
As soon as I was updated with all of the details, I knew I had to focus on two main areas. One, I needed to search over by the boat lift area where Madeleine retrieved the ball once or twice. Two, the second section was the largest area of water to metal detect which was a 50 foot by 40 foot square section that was parallel to the wooden pier. It was where Madeleine and the others were predominantly playing when my client noticed that her precious keepsake along with the other ring had vanished from her finger.
I made no promises to the couple that I would recover the rings, but I did share that with God’s help all things are possible. The reason I said this was because I didn’t know how much metal content was down in the water. That would determine whether I was looking for the very small treasure in the midst of very large metal “haystack”.
After checking the conditions of the water (which were absolutely perfect) and praying to God with the couple for much success, I returned to my car to gather up all of my gear to bring down to the water’s edge.
I believe the search lasted about an hour and a half. I metal detected all around the boat lift area and there was nothing but miscellaneous metal to be discovered. I then set up a water grid search pattern and scanned section by section, lane by lane, pulling up out of the water every potential target to be identified. At the bottom of the bay I found various non ferrous objects such as: coins, pull tabs, bottle caps and other random pieces of metal. Then, at some point, as I was half way across a particular grid lane, I picked up a very encouraging signal. I was almost certain that I had found Madeleine’s one-of-a-kind engagement ring. As it turned out…it in fact was the very special piece of jewelry that I had been searching for! I was simply elated for the couple! That special betrothal piece was exquisite in design! Matt did an awesome job searching for his future bride’s perfect ring!
Not far from where I scooped up the engagement ring, I recovered the sterling silver ring as well! I couldn’t have been happier for Madeleine and Matt now that all of the jewelry had been accounted for! It was only a matter of minutes before I experienced the excitement of revealing the wonderful news with my clients! They were simply overjoyed! We celebrated together out on the back porch and also gave thanks to God for favoring me with the search efforts!
Prior to the loss of the diamond ring, Madeleine only had three days to wear and stare at that precious keepsake! But now, the happy fiance was reunited with her princess piece which was properly placed back on Madeleine’s finger where it would be celebrated and enjoyed for a lifetime ahead!
I am very happy to share that that irreplaceable jewel that I was able to recover for the couple would soon be greeted by yet another band that would forever keep it company…yes, the wedding ring!
