Lost Jewelry Found near Morrisville Vermont

I got a call yesterday around lunchtime from a lady who had lost her pendant while mowing her large lawn with a riding mower. She got into a tangle with her apple tree and the chain holding her pendant got damaged without her knowing it. After she had finished and gone indoors she realized her pendant was missing.
This pendant was very meaningful to her because it was given to her by someone who was a special part of her life years ago. He had died unexpectedly at the young age of 40.
She searched hard for it and was about to go buy or rent a metal detector when she discovered my ring finding service. She lived about 40 miles away, so I left immediately. My cousin’s husband, a longtime metal detectorist, was available and joined me for the search. I was hoping to find it right away under the apple tree, but knew it could be anywhere on the property. We searched the entire afternoon with no luck.
This morning I got up early to go back and search again. The forecast was for rain all day, so I packed the rubber boots and rain gear. I always bring 2 detectors in case one is better than the other for the conditions. Knowing it could be a long day, I offered to let her use the second one. She also was very interested in the machines because she used to be a mineral and gemstone hunter.
I searched the back lawn and she searched the front and side lawns. After an hour or 2 I heard a scream and saw her running around the house towards me! She had found it where she had parked the car on the front lawn and had washed it after mowing the grass. She was shaking from the excitement! I was very happy for her. Happy endings are great!

White gold ring recovered from Chatfield State Park reservoir, Colorado

Adam and Tiffany were enjoying a hot summer day with their kids at Chatfield State Park in Denver, Colorado. They typically do not go to the typical beaches that are provided but rather prefer the less crowded non-improved beaches further north. Adam is a large guy and has had problems with his ring falling off in the past so when he heard a “plop” and didn’t feel his ring anymore he knew that he had a problem. He was standing in mid-thigh deep water which is just deep enough that he and Tiffany could just reach the bottom of the lake with their hands with their heads above water so they spent several hours trying to feel for the ring.

Tiffany found my contact information on the Ring Finders and we set up a search. The search location was a short hike from a parking lot through a tall grass field then a wooded edge of the lake and then down the beach 100 yards or so. Tiffany sat on the beach watching as Adam and I headed out into the water. Adam was showing my the approximate location he was in when his ring slid off. Several minutes into the search I noticed Tiffany on the phone, she was talking to her brother and discussing what was going on. Her brother was in the process of telling her that Adam’s ring was lost and would never be found when I pulled up a large silver looking ring in my scoop. I just smiled at Tiffany and then to Adam and gave Adam a head nod to come to me. I let him be the person to take the ring out of my scoop. I received a rather big ole bear hug from Adam.

Paul contacted me back in November 2012 about his wedding ring he lost. He thought that he lost it in his backyard while raking leaves.

Our schedules didn’t line up for many reasons. We both forgot about it.

I was checking/deleting my old emails when I came across the ones from Paul. I saw that I didn’t have an outcome listed for this missing ring. So I emailed Paul to see if it had been found. He said it is funny that you are asking about my ring. My wife & I were just discussing it the other night at dinner. It is still lost.

A few back & forth emails and we set a date & time the I would go over and search, Saturday August 15th.

I arrived and Paul & his son David were in the driveway replacing breaks on a car. Paul showed me the backyard and the area he thought it was lost. He then stated, if it is not here then its in the neighbors yard, because I was throwing items into their yard. I can get you permission to search there too.

I asked Paul about the ring. He said it was a plain wedding band. OK I thought I know what range on my detector that should register.

I started searching & noticed a lot of iron in the ground, not good. I searched the area Paul suggested and found pieces of metal garden dividers, pull tabs and other assorted junk. Not one good item. I decided to continue to search the rest of the yard.

About an hour into the search I finally got a good signal. It was above the range That it should be in. I dug about 2 inches down and found a very large gold ring with 2 turquoise stones in it. Well this isn’t the ring, because this isn’t a plain wedding band.

I searched the rest of the yard and found nothing else. I went to talk to Paul. I asked him, “you said a plain wedding band, correct?”

He said “oh it has 2 turquoise stones in it.”

“Like this one?” I said as I pulled the ring out of my pouch. He stood there with his mouth wide open. He couldn’t believe that I had found it. It was very large, I don’t know how he could have lost it without realizing it.

I went to the hose and cleaned it up a bit. We took some pictures and shared some stories. He said that he designed this ring and his wife’s matching ring. They have been married for 29 years. I apologized for dropping the ball and not finding this ring back in 2012.

I am just amazed by the different expressions on peoples faces when I am able to return things!!

Lost Keys found at Ocean Beach

I was leaving a successful fun day detecting at Coronado and about to head home, when, I noticed a message on my phone. Johnny asked about my service in finding his keys lost in the sand at Ocean Beach. We agreed to meet in a half hour at the location. I arrived a bit early and played around a bit until Johnny got there. When he arrived, he showed me where he had been the day before when the keys were lost. There were a few people in that area but I started on an open section and proceeded toward the occupied zone. 15 minutes later, I was in an area about 10 feet in front of their blanket, and got a nice big, high signal on my E-trac. One scoop later and I had his keys in hand. Good to meet you, thank you for calling The Ring Finders, and thanks for the reward.

Ring lost at Ocean Beach found!

Troy and Sara were enjoying a day at Ocean Beach. Troy decided to take a swim. He did so with his wedding ring on. Not one of his better decisions that weekend, but, as it turns out, not his worst one either! (He drowned his phone the next day!) Troy wasn’t exactly sure where the ring came off and didn’t really know who to call at that point. They decided to post a lost ring ad on Craig’s list and saw my ad there. They called me with the details, but, since they live in the L.A. area and were back home.  they couldn’t meet me at the beach at 2:45 am (low tide)……not that they would have wanted to meet at that hour if they lived here! Troy gave me his description of the area, and knowing that beach pretty well, I felt I could conduct a search without him. Braving the elements, alright, it was  a nice, warm, calm, moonlit morning, I started my grid pattern with my trusty Excalibur 15″ WOT combo. Surf was rather rough but since he lost the ring at high tide, and I’m hunting when the tide is 6 feet lower, it should be in the wet sand. After searching for a couple of hours, and having my grid lines wiped out continuously by rogue waves, I’d come up empty. I returned to my starting point and headed the other direction, but, that took me out of the designated search area. I made 3-4 more passes and was about to call it a night (morning?) when I got a nice signal half way from my glow stick marker and the surf. Bingo! Yahtzee! Uno! Troy’s ring is in the scoop! I emailed Troy (his phone was drowned remember) and told him the good news and that I would contact him when I woke up at noon. They made the trip down to San Diego that night and were reunited with the ring. A pleasure to meet you both and thank you for the reward.

Lost ring found at Fiesta Island

Micah called me about a lost ring on Fiesta Island. It’s not truly an island, but, more of a barren peninsula where they hold various events during the year. Micah and Bella were enjoying the day at the Mission Bay beach with friends, when Bella discovered her gold “cross” ring was missing. They searched their campsite area but were unable to find it. I met Micah at the site and began the search. What a junk pile this place is! Junk targets were EVERYWHERE! This is an area that doesn’t get a beach groomer/sifter to help keep it clean. Took me 1/2 hour to make one 20′ pass. 3/4 of the way back on my second pass, I get another in a series of endless pull tab sounds, and lo and behold, this little thing shows up right next to an old fire pit. Good to meet you Micah, hopefully this makes it back to Bella (hint, hint, as I haven’t received a photo yet!), and thank you for the reward.100_1361

Lost Diamond Ring in Daytona Beach surf….FOUND!

DSCF236720150807_120724Friday morning I received a phone call from Marilyn asking if I would help her find a very special ring.  As I listened to her story I could not help but hear the pain and disappointment in her voice as she explained the details.   Earlier in the week the family was down at the beach, swimming and enjoying the beautiful Daytona Beach sand and surf, when Chante noticed that her anniversary ring was missing from her finger.  They tried searching for the ring but soon realized the futility of such a search and then one of the family members thought to purchase a metal detector.  They tried the detector but were unable to get it to work properly.  They had been taking pictures all day and soon figured out that Chante had her ring on when she went into the water but no longer had the ring when she came out of the water carrying her surf board.   The next step was the web and during her search she came across the ring finders.  She told me that after reading some of the recovery stories under my blog she knew right away that I was the one to call.  (That sure made me feel good!!)   So during our phone conversation I realized that “Time was of the essence” and the sooner I got out there and started searching the better.

On our central Florida east coast so much depends on the tides and how large the waves are on that particular day.  And thankfully it was only one to two foot waves with a rising tide and another 3 hours till high tide.   So off I went anxious and thrilled to be helping hurting hearts with the hope of bringing joy and happiness once again to their lives.  And of course hoping to put those smiles back on their faces!

After a 40 minute drive to the Sand Castle Motel in Daytona Beach, I got my gear together and followed the ladies down onto the sand.  Many times my first thoughts are “Man, look at all that sand and water!  I sure hope they have it marked off well enough for me to be successful!”  And sure enough the ladies were able to show me an area approximately one half the size of a football field and I began the tedious task of grid searching from the wet sand and then out to about 4 feet deep.  Marilyn and Chante were sitting watching me for the next hour as I steadily paced back and forth- stopping every now and then to dig a target.  Bobby pins, pull tabs and a few coins could not stay hidden from my trusty Whits DF!  Then the magic moment came when that perfect , clean signal sounded in my headphones and there it was glistening in the sunlight in the bottom of my scoop.  I immediately turned towards the beach and raised my detector above my head and waved it to the ladies.  Chante was the first to notice and came running towards me stopping momentarily to verify it truly was her ring in the scoop and then proceeded to give me a long, awesome bear hug which we were soon to be joined by Marilyn!  Thru tears of joy the ring was put back where it belonged–on Chante’s finger–and we headed back to the Motel.

The thrill and sheer pleasure of reuniting a ring like this to it’s rightful owner is a truly awesome experience!  Thank you so much dear ladies for your generous reward.  It was my honor to help you.

Eagle Scout returns Girl Scout Leader’s lost wedding band

A daily task somehow went wrong. The rings were taken off and were put on a Cape Cod Bracelet as they have been so many times. We will never know just what went wrong, except that a wedding band missed its place of safety and ended up in the sand. Hours of searching did not bring the ring out of hiding. Enter Rick Browne an Eagle Scout from TheRingFinders.com and his friend Jim.

The two detectorist came close to calling it quits as thoughts of the area that the ring was lost in may have greatly enlarged from a small beach area to the path back to the office and within the office building itself.

Tenacity paid off. After griding the search area Rick made one more pass on the way out. This pass, at a different angle to the beach, his detector gave off a faint signal, and two scoops of sand later the glitter of diamonds was seen. A short walk with Jill’s husband let him ready his camera so a picture could be taken when Jill removed the ring from my scoop that was now holding the ring captive. The pictures tell the rest of the story!

Lost Ring Vancouver, BC…Found!

I got a call from a young man who asked if I could help him find a lost ring that he’d been looking for and couldn’t find. We agreed to meet and take a look, when I got to the location the young man showed me the area, he told me that he had a few drinks with friends to celebrate his birthday and on the way home just goofing around he threw his skateboard in the garden in front of this apartment building and when he threw it his ring got caught and went with the board…It was night and he and his friends with their cell phone lights searched but couldn’t find the ring.  He came back the next day and searched and the day after but no luck. He was going to rent a metal detector and found me on TheRingFinders directory and called. 

I though to myself this should be a quick search & recovery…(Not) After 40+ minutes in a small area and no ring he was giving up and saying we did our best and that he didn’t want to waste my time anymore…He obviously doesn’t know me! I thought for a while and decided to search the less obvious places like behind where he was standing when he threw the skateboard. Bingo! 5 minutes later I got a strong consistent 50 reading on my Garrett AT Gold…I sat down and moved the grass with my pin pointer and saw nothing but after I moved some dirt there it was looking back at me!

Kentwood, Michigan, husband has his wedding ring back

My Ring Finder partner, Dave Boyer and I always check Craigslist for possible ring finds and we came across a man, Peter S. who was camping with his family at a campground about 50 miles south of home. When he went out to the lake with his 2 boys they started jumping up and down and splashing around like young under 10 year old boys will do. They wanted dad to throw them up in the air so he did and off came his wedding ring in the process. His wife April S. marked the area on a map as to approximately where the ring went in. We emailed April and had her meet us to discuss how and when we would go search for the ring. Tuesday morning Dave and I traveled South to the lake and started our search. It took about 30 minutes in about waist deep water to get a good ring sound and there it was a beautiful men’s wedding band made of Black Hills gold.

We made arrangements with April to return the ring not telling her husband it was found. We came to the door and Peter answered I said “I’m Gregg and this is Dave” I opened a display case of rings that I have found in the past with his ring in the middle. I said “We are selling rings door to door from our metal detection collection” at that time Peter, with April standing behind him, he says “Hey there is my ring!” we all laughed and reintroduced ourselves and April fessed up that she wanted to surprise Peter. He could not believe that it was found and was a happy, happy man. After meeting his sons and taking a few pictures we said goodbye and got another entry for our “Book of Smiles”.
