Lost ring while in backyard…Found

I received a text from a gentlemen asking if I could find a ring in their backyard. They weren’t positive it was there but think it flew off while playing with the family in the yard. I went out and searched the yard twice with no luck. The husband at one point told me the dog was trying to jump over the fence and his wife grabbed the dog mid-air as it was going over. We decided togo into the neighbors yard and check. Sure enough as she was wrestling with the dog the ring flew off on the other side of the fence. So glad to get this one back to the owners.

2nd time was the charm! Gold ring lost in the snow – found in Indiana, PA by metal detecting specialist Brian Carpenter

I was contacted by Justin who lost his ring while walking his dog in the cold and snow. Justin lived locally but we were having a tough time getting together. Because it was an apartment complex I wanted to get over there and search as soon as possible to try and make sure I/we were the ones who found it. I got held up and by the time I was able to get to Justin’s place he had returned to work so I talked with his girlfriend who pointed to two general locations where he walks the dog. I searched both places a small patch of grass on the corner and a larger patch on the backside of the complex. I looked for a long time with no luck and decided to give up as it was cold and snowy. I told Justin I did not have any luck but I would come back over since it was so close.

It took a week and a half or so before Justin and I could meet back up. Actually I was on my way to his place when he got called back into work. Luckily I was able to get there before he had to go. Justin took me back and showed me a more specific area to search which was not part of my initial search. Prior to going over I had strapped on my small coil to look for the ring as the areas I had searched before were pretty small. However this time, the area Justin pointed out was a lot bigger. I was kicking myself for not bringing my larger coil but because I was so close and had been there before I did not pack it. The thought went through my mind that I should go back to the house for it but I decided to go for it with my small coil and come back out again with the large one if I needed to. It was about 15 – 20 mins of searching the field I located the ring laying on the top of the grass where the snow had melted.

Justin was at work so I sent him a text and he was very happy. We arranged a time for me to meet up with him after work and return the ring. It was a pleasure to meet and help out another kind and generous client. I was also reminded that it is always best to talk to the person who had the loss when possible (I might have found it my first time out) and to take all my equipment no matter how close.

As a side note – the young lady who I had looked for her ring in Plum, PA sent me a text that the ring had been recovered after all the snow melted. I also had another potential customer in West Mifflin, PA text me that he found his ring. Unfortunately I had not been able to make it out as quickly as we would have liked for the search. It is great that all of these rings have been recovered either by myself or the owners and I thank them for updating me. This mean that all the rings that I have been called about for 2025 have been recovered to date – awesome!

FAMILY HEIRLOOM RING LOST IN THE ALTADENA FIRE FOUND AND RETURNED

I got a call from Jan this past week, she told me she had lost her home in the Altadena fire, and I had helped her friend Mark find jewelry, and coins after he lost his  house, to the same fire. She told that she had lost all of her worldly possessions in the fire, but desperately, wanted to find her mother’s wedding ring. I went to meet her, and followed her to her one room home which she rented inside a house owned by a friend, I moved some debris out of the way, and found her mother’s engagement ring within an hour  Even though the diamond had fallen out , she was so happy to have it back, she was just as excited when I found a key, that belonged to a very old China cabinet that was stored at her daughters house. she was very happy when I was able to find a button from  her late brothers military uniform. I did recover other jewelry as well, Jen told me that she finally had some closer after the terrible fire.

Here is a short review by Abhi and what all transpired with his wife’s lost diamond earring! Abhi writes, “I am beyond thrilled that we met Mike! What a pleasure and blessing it was to work with him. My wife lost one of her treasured diamond earrings a few weeks ago going back and forth between our kids rooms at night as they were not feeling well. There was a lot of tossing and turning! SAFE FILLED WITH DIAMONDS AND GOLD JEWELRY LOST IN THE PALISADES FIRE FOUND AND RETURNED

Carolyn called me last week and told me she lost her house in the Palisades fire, and inquired if I thought her jewelry that could be salvaged from the burnt safe under the rubble. I told her to have faith and that  I would give it my best shot. I met her in Santa Monica, and followed her to the property. There was  a lot of debris especially from  large metal roofing panels. It didn’t take long to locate the safe, I carried it out to a cement walkway, It took  about 15 minutes to break the seal and pry it open, At first Glance the  family thought that everything was melted  and  ruined but I took my time and carefully sifted the contents, and slowly. Her better diamond jewelry started to appear, diamond earings, a diamond tennis bracelet, and other pieces. The most important and sentimental piece of jewelry was her diamond engagement ring, which she was overwhelmed with joy to  get back. I also dug through  the rubble a recovered some family China that was important to her, The day ended on a positive note even after the tragedy.

Recently Mitch was doing some yard work including blowing the yard as well as the large concrete pad his RV was sitting on. Shortly after he returned inside, he realized that his gold chain and an attached gold sailboat charm were no longer around his neck. After a search outside near the RV, the chain was found lodged in a crack between the concrete pad and a concrete step leading away from the pad. Mitch searched the pad and the small yard area but was unable to locate the small gold charm. He was unsure about how the chain came off of his neck but the charm was one that slid onto the chain and apparently that’s how it became separated. Mitch figured that the necklace had come off as he was working under and blowing around the edge of the large RV.

Mitch’s wife Durene found my contact information on a local social media page and Mitch emailed me to find out about my metal detecting services. I was out of town at the time but I told Mitch that we could set up a search as soon as I returned. On the day I returned to town, I already had another search set up for that morning about two hours away and I called Mitch on the way back from that successful search and left him a message that I could search for him that afternoon. I did not receive a return call from Mitch so I decided to stop by his house to see if he and Durene were home. As it turns out when I arrived, Mitch had been pressure washing the RV pad as well as the front sidewalk and driveway and had not seen my call. Mitch took me back behind the fence to the side yard where the RV was stored and I began my ground search for the charm around the RV. Since it appeared that the necklace had been blown just off the concrete pad as Mitch was blowing around and under the RV, he guessed that the charm must have been blown off the pad and further out into the yard. I searched for about 45 minutes with Mitch assisting on the digging but only found a couple of coins (including a 1941 nickel!) and some scrap metal. I had just completed my search around the RV when Mitch, who was behind me standing on the pad, called to me and held up his gold sailboat charm that he had just found in a crack in the concrete pad! He had already searched the pad for the charm but he guessed that when he pressure washed it the charm was pushed up out of the crack. This is the second or third time that the owner I was searching for found his own jewelry! After a happy Durene came out of the RV to hear the good news, she gave me some of her homemade candy.

Lost ring in Salt Lake City: Found

Bill and Hanne were married 60 years ago. Hanne’s feelings were hurt when Bill stopped wearing his wedding ring about 20 years ago, but she never asked why, and he never volunteered the reason. Today I got a call asking me to bring my metal detectors to Hanne’s home to see if I could find an heirloom item that Bill said he may have lost in the yard. I searched for two hours, and I didn’t find that item, but I did find a beautiful two-toned gold ring that seemed to have been in the ground about 20 years. When we showed that ring to Hanne, she recognized it immediately. It was her husband’s wedding ring. She realized that the reason he had stopped wearing it 20 years ago was because he had lost it in their yard, and he had never had the courage to tell her. Bill passed away a few years ago, but I’m sure he would be happy to know that his ring has been found and is now in his wife’s possession.

Engagement Ring Lost in The Sabattus, Maine Snow, Found With A Metal Detector

I received the following text, on Friday, January 31st, 2025

“Hello. My daughter lost her engagement ring in our driveway under snow. Can you help to locate? What is approximate charge?
I live in Sabattus Maine. I have the area near my driveway and lawn about 10×30 area identified. No trees Or obstacles”.

I replied

“Hello, So sorry to hear this. When was the ring lost?
I do not charge for my time or service. I do however have a Transportation Fee. This is to cover my gas, tolls, wear and tear etc..
I will tell you that I am not available today. I will be able to go up there, 1st thing tomorrow morning.
I have 3 appointments today, including a Physical Therapy session, after my recent left knee replacement”.

His reply
“Ring lost Wednesday two days ago. We sifted thru the snow, melted it in house tub but found nothing. I would like your help to check area by car in driveway? Tomorrow is fine”.

I then asked for some more information, his name, address and what the metal was that the ring was made of.
Gary N****** is his name and the ring was 14K White Gold. I told Gary we would be up around 9:00am and I would bring some test rings, to set the detectors up with and to show them how metal detecting works.

Saturday morning, Gary Hill picked me up at 7:45am and we made the approximately 1 hour drive to Sabattus, just a little northeast of Lewiston, Maine and Auburn, Maine. I still have not been cleared to drive, after my recent Total Left Knee Replacement and with Gary driving, it was all good. I am very close to being cleared and hopefully be driving again, soon. Until then, I’ll follow Dr’s orders. It was still snowing as we drove to Sabattus and with the stiff winds, the temperature was only 4 degrees. So glad we have all of our cold weather gear as who knows how long we will need to search.

Once we arrived at the search area, in Sabattus, Gary Hill and I were met by Gary N. and his daughter, Samantha. Gary Hill had already turned his detector on, and searched the driveway, as we walked, up the driveway. I was talking to Samantha and her Father and they were
Explaining that Samantha had been cleaning the snow, off of her car, Wednesday morning, after the overnight snowstorm. Samantha was standing next to her car , shaking the snow, off her hands, when she felt the ring go flying off her finger. She was uncertain, as to which way the ring went flying but was confident the Engagement Ring, was somewhere, on the front lawn, not to far from the vehicle, she was cleaning off.
As Samantha was telling me the circumstances, leading up to the ring being lost, Gary Hill had been searching the area, approximately 6 feet out from the car and as he took a step closer, to the car, Gary had a very nice signal on his VDI screen, reading 12. A definite low conductor and Gary said the tone sure sounded like gold. As we watched on, Gary moved some snow away, with his hands and pinpointer. Then, THERE IT WAS, the engagement ring was clearly visible to all of us. Smiles broke out, happy tears were flowing and all in less than 5 minutes. I never even turned my detector on and the ring was back with Samantha, where it belongs.
Samantha then told us that she recently became engaged, back in October, while on a trip to The Grand Teton National Park, in Wyoming. Samantha’s fiancé had even had the proposal videotaped, under the guise of videotaping some animals. Samantha was totally surprised and unaware of the proposal and it was all caught on camera, to watch over and over again. Samantha also told us that her fiancé, designed, this very special ring.
Gary Hill and I are extremely happy to have been able to help Samantha, in her time of need and to see her smile and happy tears as she put the ring, back on her finger. There is no better feeling than to see the smiles on the faces of our clients. Samantha will now be in The Ring Finders of Maine, “Book of Smiles”, forever. Chris & his wife were enjoying the evening at Oceanside beach in San Diego recently when his Platinum wedding band disappeared into the dry sand. After hand searching till nearly midnight they found my contact info on YELP and left me a text message for HELP.  I responded immediately in the morning and met them shortly there after.

This was an easy search being they knew exactly where in front of the lifeguard tower once the ring slipped off his hand,,It only took a few minutes & A few pieces of trash before I made his wedding ring magically appear out from the dry sand. They were very relieved,, Off to a good morning it was now!
