14k Gold Wedding Band Lost in a Snowy Toronto Backyard

Craig and his Husband Alex were preparing for the upcoming festive Christmas season.

Craig was busy in the backyard trimming some evergreens and trimming this years Christmas tree. An hour went by and after sitting at his computer he realized his 4 month old wedding band was missing.

Craig figured his wedding band must have come off his finger in the backyard prepping the Christmas tree. He googled metal detectors and The Ring Finders directory popped up.

Ring Finder member Paul wasn’t available so I sprung into action.

I started grid searching the backyard and figured that with the weight of Alex’s matching wedding band I had to search the entire back yard due to trajectory.

Thank goodness I expanded the search because the ring was in the very back of the yard hiding in behind a small Buddha statue!

Last night Chelsey was trying to enter the side door of her house holding onto only a single key and because of the fridgit temperatures we are experiancing here in Edmonton droped the key.  She could not find it anywhere. Her husband Craig shoveled the side walk but still could not find the key. Chelsey did a google search for a metal detector to rent and found me.  I was able to quickly find the key for her.

Lost ring in Garden, Found after Two and a Half Years…

Two and a half years ago, Mary was doing some gardening at the retirement accommodation where she lives in Whangarei. Some time after weeding, gardening, and repotting a fern, she noticed her gold wedding ring of some forty years was missing.

Staff members at the time searched through the garden and fern, with no success.
As is often the case, the ring was given up as lost.

Recently on hearing about my recovery service, one of the staff members contacted me to see if there was any chance of finding it.
Mary was apparently sceptical about a recovery given the time that had elapsed though.
Her confidence was boosted when shortly after the enquiry, I successfully recovered a ring lost in a farm paddock that had been missing for an equivalent period of time.

I duly arrived at the accommodation and was met by Mary, who talked me through the loss.
Constantly assessing the different locations I was shown, I shifted them up and down my mental list in order of probability as we went.
After a few further questions, I had a good idea of the likely scenarios that might have led to this lost ring and got kitted up.

A quick reconnaissance sweep of the garden yielded only the usual decomposing nails, bits of brass and plumbing that are the usual background in urban searches.
Molesting the poor fern with the pinpointer was only met with silence from the probe. Cross that one off the list, which meant it wasn’t where it was supposed to be – they rarely are.

I returned to the car to get the ‘big guns’ out, time to get serious.
10 minutes later, in the lawn, a beautiful gold signal sounded in the headphones. I parted the grass and moss and after wiping the surface mud off, there was the shining edge of a ring.

It must have been lost while Mary was gardening then knelt or stepped on, into the soil surface. This would have prevented it from being found by the many searchers and almost certainly saved it from death-by-mower.

I left it there and tapped on the door of the unit.
When Mary came to the door, I simply said, “I’ve got something of yours”.

I let Mary pick it out of the soil where it had fallen two and a half years ago.

Had it not been for a caring staff member who took the initiative to contact me, it would still be lost.

Many rings lay in gardens, lost but not forgotten.  Waiting for an experienced Ringfinder…

I was contacted by a young lady who said she had lost her diamond ring while hanging up Christmas lights the day before. Her and her husband had searched for it but were unable to locate it. I hopped in car and went down to have a look. It was a rather small yard with a bit of a hill and some landscaping, while she was not 100% sure she lost it outside I was feeling rather good about finding it if she did. I had been out on two searches the day before and came up empty so I was hoping for a quick search and recovery. They did not have a lot of lights out so that made me feel even a bit more confident that I only had to check a small area. I quickly got to work and in no time at all I was through the search area and had found nothing. I stopped for a minute to make sure I had checked everywhere there was lights and to survey the area before starting my second sweep. Suddenly when I looked up at some of the lights with some greenery I noticed something small and shiny. There – right in front of me – caught up in the lights and greenery was the ring!! I rang the doorbell and told her that I had found the ring – no metal detector needed! She came out and could not believe where I had found it. It was great to be able to return her ring to her and she was very happy and grateful to have it back. As always, it is great to meet warm and generous people and even better was to have helped make the holidays a little brighter!

Lost Wedding Ring Found in Surf Two Days Later

Two days ago, Scott had been fishing from a remote beach in Doubtless bay. While packing up, he noticed he had lost his white gold wedding ring during the day.

Thinking he had lost the ring while gutting and cleaning the catch in the water, he spent some time looking for it. With light failing and the propensity for rings to sink quickly in mobile sands, he was unable to locate his lost ring.

Fortunately, he had the presence of mind to tie a small orange fishing float to some grass at the edge of the dunes…and contacting an experienced Ringfinder as soon as possible meant that the chances of recovering it were as good as they get.
So, a little after 4am this morning, I pulled out of the driveway and started the 2hr drive north to meet Scott at 6.

Given the remote location, it was likely we would only get one shot at this and I wanted to maximise the lower half of the tide in case it became a protracted search.
Big thanks do have to go to Scott for making the effort to meet me on site at ‘daft o clock’, it is so invaluable having the ring owner present at searches to discuss the circumstances of loss.

Our little convoy bounced up the rough road up onto “Puwheke” – not an insignificant hill on the Karikari peninsula, and a prominant landmark visible from many kilometres in all directions.
Once parked up, Scott pointed far into the distance…distance being the key word! The route we would have to take around the hill and down to the beach looked like one of those that somehow always feels like it’s uphill in both directions with gorse, steep slopes and wet, slippery rank grass growth.

The beach itself was very pleasant though, the sort of sand you see on deserted tropical islands – nice flat hardpacked white quartz sand (The quartz crystals actually ‘squeak’ with the friction if you scuff your foot in the dry sand).

One and a half kilometres from the cars, we arrived at where he had lost his ring. A small dayglo fishing float glowing orange in the grass.
While I got setup, Scott marked out some boundaries and I made a start in the dry fluffy sand. At least, in the middle of nowhere there was no trash or background chatter to mask any signals. A rare luxury with recoveries.

The first search line went straight down the beach and out into the shallows. Unsure how long I’d be searching, I was trying to stay dry at this stage of the exercise, the ocean waters not yet warmed from summer.
I turned and started the return line back to the beach. Three paces – and I got a clean tone, the sound was either that of a deep lead fishing weight, or a relatively shallow gold ring. I knew which it would be! Time to dig.

The white sand easily flowed out of the scoop, leaving Scotts ring nestled in the corner.

The ring safely back on Scott’s finger, we started the long walk back to the cars.

I received a call from Daniel who had lost his iPhone and AirPods at the beach. He and his friends had searched for them for a while before they called. I was available, so I told him I would come immediately.

I got to the beach and found Daniel with his friends. He took me over to the area they believed to loss to have occurred, and I readied for my search. they put me right on top of the phone because it took about 45 seconds to find the phone, and then the AirPods. They couldn’t believe how fast the return was made. I was happy to have helped them, although Daniel was a bit camera shy.

Johnathon called for help in finding his wedding ring. He was at work, and walked across a bridge that went into the building when his ring came off and fell into the tall grass below. It was night, but I knew that given the right location I would be able to help him, so I told him I would come right away.

When I got there Johnathon showed me the area he believed the ring fell into, and it was covered with very tall ornamental grass, so I got my detector with a narrow coil to do the search. It took a while hiking up and down the hillside to search, making sure to grid thoroughly. Fortunately the area was clean of metal trash which made the search easier and quicker. I then came upon one big clump of grass, got a good tone, put my pin pointer in, and found his ring. I was able to reunite Johnathon with his ring within 20 minutes of arriving, which allowed him to get back to his job with a happier outlook on the day.

Ring Lost In Lakewood Ranch, Recovered BY SRARC

Bob was down from Virginia in Lakewood Ranch visiting with his daughter, her husband, and his grandchildren and to help with the hurricane Ian cleanup in their yard. Before going to work he wrapped his two rings in his handkerchief so they would not be lost. Sometime during the work process he pulled the handkerchief from his pocket to blow his nose. His rings went flying away and were lost out in the grass. The family searched in the general area for over an hour but could never find them. Bob returned to Virginia and some time later found the SRARC ring finders and contacted Joe Szemer. Joe contacted Mike Miller and arrangements were made for Mike to do a search in the area where the rings were lost. Mike searched for about an hour before he got the hit and found the two rings side by side under the grass. When Bob heard from his daughter both rings had been found he was all smiles. Always a pleasure for us at SRARC to see the smiles when lost items are returned.

Gold Diamond Wedding Band Returned to Owner After Giving Up Hope.

On 10/10/22 I was out detecting at Ponte Vedra Beach, Fl. when I was approached by a lady who asked me mid I had found a gold and diamond wedding band. Shem told me that she had lost her wedding band of 17 years and was heartbroken. She showed me the area where she thought she had lost the ring. I searched for a few hours with no luck finding it. She thanked me for my time and said that she was positive it could not be found since the ring was very small and several days have passed. I asked her for her contact information and told her not to “lose faith” as I have found many rings long after they were lost. I returned to the area the next day and continued my search for her ring which I was so happy to find. I texted the owner a picture of the ring and she called me back crying with tears of joy. It’s such a great feeling to be able to return something so sentimental.  Later that day after returning her ring she sent me a nice testimonial.

I received a call today from a young lady who was very distraught as she explained to me that last week she lost both of her deceased parents wedding rings which was on a necklace around her neck. She was in her backyard when the chain broke causing both rings to fall to the ground somewhere in her back yard. She and family members searched for a week using metal detectors and probes with no luck.  She works during the day so this backyard search was conducted during the nighttime. After 5 minutes both rings recovered and returned to grateful owner.
