Dauphin Island – Lost diamond ring

  • from Mobile (Alabama, United States)

I got a call from Todd asking if I found rings. Well, yes sir, I do my best – tell me your story.

Todd and his wife were visiting Dauphin Island from Arkansas and this was their second day here. His wife had put her wedding ring on the chair and then accidentally knocked it off. He shared with me that they had been crawling around on hands and knees for a couple of hours looking for it.  They weren’t far away from me so I was there within 15 min.

Todd met me and took me down to the beach where they had set up. Fortunately it was a beach house that wasn’t on the public beach, and it was a fairly narrow strip of sand. The chairs had already been removed, so Todd pointed me to the area they had been sifting the sand with their fingers. It was hot as blue blazes outside with an excessive heat warning that day so I uttered a quick prayer that this would be an easy recovery ! Not to mention I was also recovering from a bout with Covid and my stamina and energy was definitely not back up to normal yet.

I set out with my trusty Minelab Equinox 900, mentally mapped out an area to grid, and started swinging. I warned Todd that pull tabs sound a little like rings and told him don’t get too excited if I scooped a target. Less than a dozen swings of my coil, I got a promising signal. A few gentle shakes of my scoop and there was his wife’s ring. Thankfully one of my easiest recoveries yet and another beach vacation saved !

Lost unique white gold ring with diamond…Found at Baker Beach!!!

The Bay Area Ring Finders Brendon Chapman… Metal Detecting Service/Call ASAP     925-580-2590

I contacted Debra early on Wednesday after reviewing a Craigslist post about a lost white gold ring with a diamond.  She had been on Baker Beach when the ring went missing and after talking with her I could tell that it was troubling her.

I sent her a link to THERINGFINDERS.COM site and agreed to search for the ring the following Saturday.  She agreed and was very thankful for my offer.  Later that evening my good friend Jes Muse, founder of The Bay Area Bleepers (check it out) sent over the post suggesting that I perform the search as she would be out of town.

I woke up at 4:30 Saturday morning, packed my gear, and made the hour drive to the coast.  When I arrived, there were few people on the beach and at one point I shared the beach with no one but three coyotes.  The fog was thick, so much so that it fell like rain and the sand had a thin wet layer on top.  I opened up a photo that Debra was kind enough to mark up of the area that would become the search zone.  The detecting was difficult with seemingly never ending targets hid beneath my grid pattern.  I cleared handfuls of trash from the beach as I searched.  And then, a ring!  Sadly not the ring I was there for, but a happy consolation.

After about two hours of searching, I decided to call Debra and give her an update and to get a better account of where she might have been.  As it turned out, I was working away from where she had been and after a 20 yard course correction and pockets full of trash, I hit an 8-9 VDI (visual display indicator) that sounded very promising on the equinox. In one scoop I had the item, but it had not revealed itself.  I’m happy to announce, WE MADE THE RECOVERY!!!

The exciting part was yet to come.  I took a few photographs of the ring and the beach and sent them on to Debra.  The next thing I did was gave her a call and when she answered I simply asked if she had gotten my photos.  She admitted she had not but went straight to them.  That is when I got my payout!!!  She was so extremely excited that I could feel it through the phone.  It’s a feeling like no other.

After our celebration over the phone, I agreed to drop off the ring on my way home.  She lived along the route I would travel home and I was excited to get to meet her.  I quickly packed the gear and 45 minutes later the ring was back with Mrs. Debra.

It takes a lot of trust for someone to disclose a bunch of details about their missing valuables, especially when they are so sentimental.  Thank you Debra for putting your trust in me to assist you in the recovery of your unique and beautiful ring and for your generosity!  It was a pleasure to meet you and I wish you the very best in your future!

Necklace and Engagement Ring Lost, Beach Haven NJ, LBI, Recovered by Edward Trapper, NJ Ring Finder

  • from Lavallette (New Jersey, United States)

It was another fantastic day in New Jersey so Denise and her family decided to pack up and head to the beach. Denise’s nephew loves the beach, especially flying kites when the wind is just right. Prior to flying the kite, she removed her necklace and engagement ring. Denise slipped the necklace through her ring and secured the clasp, then placed them both in her top pocket for safe keeping. They both had ran all over the soft white sand, almost covering the entire block, well about 2/3 of it anyhow. It was later on when she looked in the pocket and , OH NO, both were missing. Everyone searched the area for quite some time when they decided a metal detector was needed. They headed down to the local store and purchased one, figuring the necklace would soon be located. Well, unfortunately that did not work, so they decided to call in a professional. Once I arrived and got all the details, I covered the entire area where they were flying the kite, figuring that was the most  likely area they would have fallen out of her top pocket. With nothing to show for my effort, we decided the next most traveled area was the top of the tide line, and down a bit to the low tide mark. After a few passes, I asked them to move back a little, and sure enough, very close to the chairs, was the spot my metal detector sniffed out the ring and necklace. Everyone was totally amazed, and the best I can figure, either the necklace never made it into her top pocket, or coincidently it fell out right in the area they had set up the chairs and stuff. Regardless another happy ending !!!!

“I was so impressed in how calm and confident you were while searching for my ring.” Diamond Ring Recovered by Rob Ellis, Annandale VA.

  • from Fairfax (Virginia, United States)

James reunited with his custom-made diamond ring.

James sent me this testimonial:

“Rob is the truth! I stopped by a BBQ restaurant/bar called “O My ChiQ & Bar” in Annandale, Virginia last Friday night to catch up with a few buddies of mine. If you are familiar with this establishment, there is an outdoor backyard area available for the customers to hang out with beer pong tables and cornhole boards. My buddies and I ended up playing a game of cornhole. I was wearing my VS1 diamond flooded Miami Cuban Ring (18 karat gold) that night. I had this ring made with a customized size that fit perfectly and secure around my finger, so I didn’t even think about taking it off before playing as I was confident it wouldn’t be an issue. I was having a great time and there were no issues up until about mid-way through the game when I physically felt my ring slide off my finger at the top of the release of an underhand throw of the beanbag. I immediately stopped the game and searched the area with my friends. Unfortunately, the whole area is on choppy grass and it was quite dark being outside with only a few dim light bulbs hanging at the top. We searched frantically with our cell phone flash lights for about 15 minutes.

We walked right over it!

I felt bad and embarrassed watching my friends searching for my ring as it was supposed to be a time for them to have fun, so I stopped them and continued looking on my own for about another 30 minutes with no luck. Being exhausted and overwhelmed, I felt it was futile spending any more time searching during the night darkness so I decided to go home and come back the next morning when the sun was out. I drove home feeling so defeated.

As you can guess, I didn’t get much sleep that night. As soon as I got home, I spent a few hours researching online for any resources to help me. By the grace of God, I discovered TheRingFinders and stumbled across Rob’s page servicing the Northern Virginia area. Out of urgency, I called his cell and left a message around 1 am (sorry again Rob for waking you and your wife up!). I called back first thing next morning and Rob picked up. I told him the situation and he agreed to meet me at the restaurant an hour before it opened to start searching.

When Rob arrived, I showed him the exact area and trajectory of where I thought the ring might have flown to and then he started his search. Unbelievably, he found the ring only after 1 hour! I cannot explain the feeling of joy, relief, and peace of mind. I was still in shock for about 20 minutes after he found it. What’s even crazier is that Rob found the ring in place I wouldn’t have even checked to see. It landed behind the cornhole board I was playing on, which was the complete opposite side of he backyard where I thought it landed. So, I would have wasted many useless hours with no results if I continued to look at my search area if it wasn’t for Rob.

My situation was very mild compared to other cases you will see on Rob’s page, as my search area was relatively small. Despite this, negative thoughts were running through my mind of giving up and potentially never finding it. If you are reading this, trust me: I understand that dreadful feeling of anxiety and hopelessness. Please don’t give up hope and call Rob! I believe everything happens for a reason, and although this was an unpleasant lesson in my life, I’m glad I went through it because now I am aware of the existence of the TheRingFinders organization. Such an amazing, underappreciated group of human beings. Absolute true heroes.

Thank you Rob so much for your kindness and amazing attitude. I was so impressed in how calm and confident you were while searching for my ring. Thank you for also serving our country as a Marine. I salute you. You are my friend for life.

God bless!

-James

Rob’s Story:

James, thank you so much for that heart-felt testimonial.

I never had one of those calls for a ring search at 1 am, until this one. I couldn’t even get to the phone before James had left a frantic message about his custom made ring lost in an outdoor bar area. I listened to the message and knew I couldn’t help at that hour and tried to get back to sleep.

The next morning, a very apologetic James called and told me how he had lost his ring tossing bags while playing a corn-hole game. I knew we needed to search as soon as possible in this popular restaurant/bar (https://omychiq.com/ ).

I arrived a little before opening and the staff was accommodating, but busy. James and I set-up the corn-hole boards exactly where they were the night before. James showed me how he had thrown a bag underhanded, and where he believed the ring flew off. I set up a quick rope line/grid and searched for about 45 minutes, a good deal of time due to stack of firewood. Being an experienced Ring Finder, I know client’s memories of an event may not be as accurate as they hoped. James and his friends were positive the ring flew off toward the targeted board, however, after finding nothing but trash, I concluded the arc of the underhanded throw might have resulted in a rear left trajectory. Within a few minutes searching there, I found James’ beautiful handmade ring. It was in the grass, close to the base of the stairs where anyone looking down could have seen it! FYI…I now set my phone on “do not disturb” at night:)

For my fellow Ring Finders: Equinox 900 Target ID of this 18K, 13.9 grams ring is 39.

A Challenging Yet Gratifying Ring Recovery in the Tall Grass

  • from Erie (Pennsylvania, United States)

I recently received a message from Ciri, someone in need of help after a distressing loss. While out walking her dog, Ciri’s wife had lost her diamond engagement and wedding band in the thick, tall grass and woods behind their home. This wasn’t a recent event either—the rings had been missing for nearly a month. Despite their best efforts, including multiple searches, the rings remained elusive. Feeling at a loss, they turned to the internet for help and found my page on The Ring Finders.

Understanding how important these rings were, I immediately agreed to help. The challenge was clear—finding such precious items in dense, overgrown terrain after a month would be no easy feat. Armed with my metal detector and determination, I headed to the location.

The search was as difficult as I had imagined. The tall grass and uneven terrain made it hard to navigate, and I had to be meticulous, combing through every inch of the area. It took about an hour of concentrated effort, but then, there it was—a glimmer of metal beneath the grass. The diamond engagement and wedding bands were safely recovered, ready to be returned to their rightful owner.

This return was easily one of the most challenging I’ve encountered, but the satisfaction of reuniting someone with such valuable and sentimental items made it all worthwhile. Seeing the relief and happiness on Ciri’s face reminded me why I love doing this work. Thank you, Ciri, for trusting me to find and return your beautiful rings.

Each search has its own set of challenges, but the reward of seeing the joy it brings makes every effort worth it. If you ever find yourself in a similar situation, don’t hesitate to reach out—I’m here to help bring those precious memories back.

Chatham, MA Wedding Band Lost, Found and Returned by a RingFinder

  • from Cape Cod (Massachusetts, United States)

August 15, 2024

Brendan was enjoying a sunny day at the beach, his 39th year in doing so, when his wedding band slipped from his finger. After failing to find the ring he reported the loss to the gate guard who gave him my card, name and number. A text to me followed. Brendan’s was one of two requests I received within 30 minutes. I answered both with the same: first to respond will have their choice of day for me to help.

Brendan was the second one, Thursday would be the day set for the search. Detecting partner Leighton was off from work both days and we both would be helping search for the lost ring. We met Brendan on the parking lot, exchanged a few words dawned our gear, and headed to the water stopping to meet Brendan’s wife and 3 sons. Then as usual we had Brendan enter the water and stand just where he remembered loosing his ring. We started searching parallel to the beach from where Brendan was standing toward the beach and I to deeper water. About 20 feet from Brendan, Leighton dug his first signal and there was the platinum ring we were in search of.

A very joyful Brendan wanted to pull the ring from the scoop only to be told “wait”. The three of us headed to Chrissy and their 3 curious children. In the presence of everyone, Brendan retrieved the ring and put it back on his finger. Congratulations, pictures and exchange of info followed. For Leighton and myself, we were off to another beach to search for a missing engagement ring.

Osterville, MA Platinum Wedding Band Lost, Found and Returned by RingFinder

August 14, 2024

Any chance you are available for a search? Was one of two requests I received within 30 minutes. I answered both with the same: first to respond will have their choice of day for me to help.

The days and times are: Wednesday 11am-2pm or Thursday noon to 6pm for low tide and the ability to search in the water. Let me know if either works for you… The reply was that “Wednesday works for us! Hannah & Jamin”.

Detecting partner Leighton was off from work and we both would be helping search for the lost ring.

All four of us met up in the parking lot. Leighton and I with our detecting gear, Jamin with fishing gear and Hannah ready to supervise and perhaps take a swim. As usual we started by looking for the pile shells marking the beach were they were a few days ago. Well the tides have spread the pile so we started detecting an area suggested by Jamin. A few minutes later Hannah signals us she had found the pile of shells. OK, we moved the search over to an area 50 or so feet along the beach. After a bit of searching the width of the search area widened and to everyone’s amazement the is found closer to the original area where we started searching. Memory is a wonderful thing and it is good, but a physical marking is better. That is why we suggest dropping a few metal objects where a ring or other object is lost. With a few targets to look for we would know that we were in the correct area.

A few photos for the book of smiles, a bit of story telling as each story has it’s own lesson to be learned and then the ThankYou and now the fishing was going to start as Leighton and I left to look for another lost ring. I don’t know how the fishing endeavor ended, but I do know Jamin with a bit of luck did hook onto two metal detectorists that are always willing to help and that made the day a day to remember.
