Gold ring lost while laying sod finally found

  • from Marco Island (Florida, United States)

Four weeks into a gardening project the loss of her husbands ring while laying sod kept coming up, the drive up the driveway also a constant reminder of the loss.  Coincidentally or by sheer divine appointment Yessenia sent us a text requesting help.  The rest is history, our motto being “it’s only lost until you call.”  After over three hours under the hot humid Florida sun the ring was successfully located about 6 inches down under a sod strip.  That’s where having the best MineLab equipment really pays dividends, having the knowhow and right tool for the job.  Thanks be to God, their story continues, the wedding band back on the finger where it belongs.  ???

Diamond Engagement Ring Lost In Freeport, Maine Grass, Found With A Metal Detector

  • from Old Orchard Beach (Maine, United States)

Late Tuesday, May 26th, I received the following voicemail.

“Hi there, my name is Hillary S***. I found you from Facebook. I lost my diamond wedding ring. Uh this morning. And um, I’ve been searching for it and I’m having no luck. I live in Freeport, Maine and I’m wondering if you are around and could maybe help me find it. I’m hoping for a miracle. Um, I basically put it in my pocket. I was heading out the door and, um, put it in my pocket on my way to drop my kids off at school. So there’s a couple of locations here in FreeportME where I’ve already asked permission if I could bring somebody over to do a metal detector kind of thing. So one place would be just the Freeport Montessori School , which is right in front of the Town of Freeport Library here. Um, and also through the trees, which these 2 places are like within 30 seconds of my house and then my own driveway. So it’s about a 2 minute drive to each of these locations from each other. Um, and in fact, through the trees, they have a metal detector. So this like teenage boy has been over there. trying to help locate it, um, But so far no success. I’ve searched through my car, thinking it fell out of my pocket while I was driving. But anyways, if somebody could give me a call back, uh, my phone number is area code 607-***-***. That’s 607-***-*** and again, my name is Hillary. Um, and I’ll be around all week. So if somebody’s able to come, it would be great to talk about what you charge and how it works and figure it’s better than nothing. All right, thanks so much. Bye- bye.”

I called Hilary as soon as I saw the voicemail. Hilary was very upset and told me that she has been wearing this engagement for 16 years and wanted to do everything possible to locate it. Hilary is also 8 months pregnant and this morning her wedding and engagement rings were not going on her finger because they were so swollen. She had taken them off, the previous evening because the were so tight, on her finger. Hilary has two children that she needed to get them to school and was a little behind. Since she couldn’t get the rings on her finger, she put them in her pocket, intending to put them on in a few minutes, when she returned home or whenever the swelling went down. Hilary also told me that she had put her keys, in the same pocket as her rings, along with her phone. Hilary and the children went out the door and each child was dropped off at their different schools, respectively. The entire trip to both schools, with getting out of the vehicle was only 15 minutes or less. Once Hilary arrived home, she reached into her pocket to try putting her rings on again and only her wedding ring was there. The engagement ring was missing. Panic set in and Hilary immediately went out side and searched her vehicle and gravel driveway. The engagement rig wasn’t found. She then went to the Montessori School school in Freeport , Maine and to the Through the Trees school where one of her children attend. This is a non profit outdoor school starting for preschoolers. The engagemet ring was not found at either location. Hilary told me that the owner of the outdoor school has a metal detector and that both the owner and his 13 year old son had been searching for her ring but have not been able to find it. At both schools, she had gotten out of her vehicle and the area at both were very small, as to where the ring could be. Hilary’s husbund had also been searching their property and vehicle, along with the two schools. I could tell Hilary was just beside herself and wanted to find this so badly. This ring represented 16 years of her and her husband’s life together, with two children and a third on the way. I told Hilary that I was already booked early the next morning but it was for a water shutoff valve, that wasn’t going anywhere and I would search for her ring first, then the valve. We agreed to meet at her house at 7:00am, bright and early. I would also see if GH would be able to help, now that I had two jobs lined up and had no idea how long each would take.
Gary and I arrived propmtly at 7:00am and Hilary showed us the area of her gravel drivway that she had parked in. Even though Hilary and her husband had visually searched the driveway, rings have a way of hiding, in the loose gravel and possibly even hidden underneath the loose gravel. The area was very small and we didn’t find the ring but did come up with a dollar or so, in coins, just under the gravel, with no digging required. As Gary and I were driving up to Freeport, we both agreed that the ring most likely came out of her pocket, when taking her keys or phone out of her pocket. Unfortunately, it didn’t fall out, in her driveway. With the possibility of the ring coming out, of her pocket, in her vehicle, I brought my Borescope, so we could check every crevice around her seat. The small camera at the end of the Borescope can get into places that the human eyes can’t get to. After a search of the vehicle, still no ring. Off to the first school, Through the Trees. The school was literally just 2-3 minutes, from her house. She had dropped her first child off here and had backed into the gravel parking lot, got out, walked across the drivway and a grassy area, to a picnic table, where she left her child, with the other students. Hilary then returned to her car and drove to the Montosorri School, just another few minutes down the road. As the three of us stood in the driveway, Gary and I went over the search areas. The gravel parking lot and the path across the grass, to the picnic table. I didn’t have high hopes of finding the ring here as the owner and his son had already searched. I asked Gary which side he wanted to search and he took the grassy path and picnic tabe as he was closer to those locations. Ok, I will take the gravel parking lot. Within 90 seconds of searching I hear Gary say, “I got it”. Both Hilary and I swung around and looked at Gary and I said to Hilary, “He found your ring”.. Hilary looked shoked and said something along the line of, “Are you sure? I don’t want to look and be disappointed”. We walked over to Gary and he asked Hilary if that was her ring. Gary hadn’t touched the ring and it still was in the grass. Hilary couldn’t see it until gary told her that it was right in front of his detector. When the ring came into focus, beneath the grass, Hilary says “Oh my God, THATS CRAZY, OH MY GOD, THATS AWESOME.” She then is just beaming ear to ear and puts her hand to her face and says “Oh you guys are the best” and let out an relieved laugh. When I asked her how she felt, she said she didn’t know what to say. I did post a very short video of Hilary seeing her ring, after Gary found it. Please check it out. She was still amazed and in disbelief. Hilary then showed the owner of the school, that her ring had been found and another mother that had just showed up and everyone was very excited, laughing and smiling. As Gary and I drove off, we could see Hilary still beaming, showing her ring and admiring it, back on her finger. So how did Hilary’s engagement ring end up there? The most likely explanation is that after dropping her child off at the picnic table, Hilary walked back towards her vehicle and removed the keys out of her pocket, causing the ring to fall out.
Another ring back on the finger, another smiling client and I’ll say it again, “We have the best job in the world. I love my job. If it matters to you, it matters to us.”??❤️?

LOST HEIRLOOM WHITE GOLD WEDDING RING IN NORTH SPOKANE….FOUND!!!

  • from Spokane (Washington, United States)

There are only a few reasons why Jade would take off her ring, which was a gorgeous white gold wedding ring her grandma left her when she passed. However, the reason that made her ring come off was not a reason she had ever considered. See, Jade was at a birthday party for her nephew, and it was in full swing. The pool was cool and refreshing. The drinks were delicious and overflowing. Jade’s family were all having a great time. Amongst all this glee there was a tussle that broke out. It was brother vs. sister; I’m pretty sure sister won. This led into a cousin falling down and Jade and a few others trying to pick up the poor fella. The night seemed to slip away into the darkness of a hazy birthday party. After the fog of a few too many had lifted, Jade’s hand that the ring was on felt a little off. As Jade brought it up into view, the problem became very clear. Grandmas ring was missing. The moments turned into hours, the hours turned into an afternoon, the whole family was in search and recover mode. They took a quick trip to the hardware store, and they had a metal detector in their grip. Swinging the coil around felt awkward. The myriads of signals played havoc on their confidence and ultimately left them feeling hopeless. Hopeless fingers got online and typed in a search term that brought up The Ring Finders website. The same fingers dialed the local Ring Finder.  My ears got to hear the sad story of how Jade lost her ring. Then I drove quickly to Jade’s mom’s house where the ring was hiding. Tracy, Jade’s mom gave me more details about that night before and how the ring probably was lost. I made a few passes over the most likely spot and then moved outward from there. After completing two grid searches on the grass I moved onto the unlikely areas. Behind the pool, in the trash can, in the neighbor’s yard and finally around the patio. As some of Jade’s family was leaving so was my hope in finding Jade’s ring. Talking about how I would search the house with Tracy, I decided to go over how the ring could be lost in the gap of the flower box and the fence. Both the flower box and the fence were giving off strong metal signals. Even though I had already searched with my coil and my pin pointer in this flower box I had not pulled back the grass and looked in the gap. As I shuffled through the weeds, I moved a pool noodle that was wedged in the gap. After not seeing the ring, I set down the noodle and got a very shocking glimpse of Jade’s ring. The eruption of emotion took over the moment. Jade had been inside the house when I said the famous Ring Finders words, ” I Found It”.  Tracy called to Jade and they both embraced in a hug with tears of joy running down their faces. Shock waves for happiness radiated out from that back yard.  The thoughts of a higher power at work crossed Jades mind as she looked up to sky at her late grandma smiling down on her. I know how mysterious Gods works are and that afternoon was no small miracle. Jade’s ring was found and I thank the God for that. Thank you, Jade, and to your family as well for trusting The Ring Finders and believing in the goodness of people.

Lost ring in Boulder, Co found and returned

  • from Lakewood (Colorado, United States)

Carl lost his 14k gold wedding band while doing yard work. He tried looking for it but the grass was so overgrown. His wife told me Carl is more sentimental than her and was upset that he could not find it. Their daughter tried helping find it as well but found us on Ring Finders instead. Carl explained he had gloves on and took them off and on several times. He lost his ring before doing the same thing and said it always found it in his gloves, except for this time. I started on the path of travel found it in about 45 seconds.

Zirconium ring found and returned in Aurora

  • from Lakewood (Colorado, United States)

My first zirconium ring. Derek lost his wedding ring while walking his dog Max, this morning. He walked me through his path explaining his stops along the way. About 20’ from the start of his walk he shook some tree branches that were hanging down to the ground from the heavy snow we got. My spidey senses told me to spend some extra time here. As I was swinging the detector around the tree I saw it before I swung over it. The snow had melted by now but still is difficult to spot. It camouflaged so well with the rock. Zirconium is a low conducting metal, over 90% is used for cladding fuel elements in nuclear reactors due to its low neutron absorption cross-section. ?
Derek and Max were both so happy! I mean look at that smile on Max!

The first GOLD ring I ever found, went VIRAL!

  • from Meridian (Idaho, United States)

One of my favorite memories…

After finding my first ever gold ring while metal detecting, I did a little detective work to track down the original owner. The ring I found was a big 1960 gold class ring from a nearby high school. After a little research, I found that the school keeps photos of each graduating class in the main hallway. After finding the class of 1960 all I had to do was find the person with the same initials on the ring, and as luck would have it, there was only one match. I instantly punched his name into Google on my phone, and to my surprise, he was the first person to pop up. After contacting this person and asking him if he had lost a class ring, we set up a meeting so I could return it to him. He and his wife were thrilled to see the ring again after over fifty years of being lost, and I was glad I could be a part of its return.

After more than 50 years lost, the ring made its way back to the original owner.  It’s moments like these that remind me why I love detecting!
I shared the full story on youtube, and the video has been viewed over 2.4 million times.

  • from Meridian (Idaho, United States)

VIDEO- https://youtu.be/3jubKEZ7rqE

A family lost a ring in the river and asked if I could help find it. Using my new Minelab Vanquish 560, we searched the water and recovered it! This was one of those hunts that reminds you why metal detecting is so addicting. Not just the find, but getting to return something that truly mattered to someone.

A newspaper article… a 15 year old mystery… and a moment of hope restored

A newspaper article… a 15‑year‑old mystery… and a moment of hope restored

Some recoveries begin long before the detector ever touches the ground.

This one started in the spring of 2026, when the local newspaper published an article about my work as a metal detectorist and RingFinder. I had no idea how far that story would travel — or who it would reach.

Just a few days later, I received a message from a man named Caj.

His words carried a mix of hesitation and hope. Fifteen years earlier — not fifteen days, not fifteen months — he had lost both his engagement ring and his wedding ring on a volleyball court. Two symbols of love, commitment, and a chapter of life that had long since passed… yet still mattered deeply.

He asked if I would be willing to come and search for them.

Of course I said yes. When something meaningful disappears, time doesn’t erase its value. I told him exactly that: “It doesn’t matter how long ago it happened. If the rings are still there, we’ll find them.”

My wife joined me once again, camera in hand, and we drove for just under an hour to meet him. When we arrived, Caj showed us the spot where he had taken off the rings and placed them on his bag before leaving the court. And then — in the rush of packing up — he forgot them. Somewhere between the sand and the parking area, they had slipped away.

Fifteen years of wondering. Fifteen years of not knowing.

I started on the volleyball court, sweeping every line, every corner. Nothing. Not a single promising signal. So we moved toward the parking area — the last stretch of ground the rings could have touched.

And then it happened.

A sharp, clean, unmistakable tone rang through the XP Deus.

One of those signals that makes your pulse jump before your hands even move.

I knelt down, brushed aside the gravel and dirt… and there it was.

The engagement ring. After fifteen years in the ground, waiting for someone to listen closely enough to hear its story.

The look on Caj’s face — the shock, the relief, the emotion — said everything.

In that moment, time folded in on itself. Fifteen years vanished. What was lost was found again.

And the search wasn’t over yet….

We had already found the engagement ring — but the mission wasn’t over.

One treasure still lay hidden: the wedding ring.

We kept searching along the same line, and suddenly a promising signal broke the silence. I pushed my shovel into the ground… but froze. The soil was rock‑hard, still locked in winter’s grip behind the building where the sun never reached. I looked at Caj and said quietly, “Well… what now?”

There was only one choice.

We agreed to return later — to free the ring that meant the world to him.

Weeks passed. Life moved on. But the ring waited.

After about three weeks I messaged Caj, asking if we should go back and finish what we started. He replied immediately: Let’s do it.

We met again at the place where the rings had vanished fifteen years earlier. We dug. Signals came and went — good ones, but not the one. I told him we needed to widen the search area, and we expanded it by about two meters.

And then it happened.

A sharp, clean, unmistakable tone rang out — the kind of signal that makes your heart jump because you know. I dropped to my knees, pinpointed the target, and carefully cleared the soil from the hole.

“Yes,” I said. “This is it.”

And then it appeared — rising from the earth after a decade and a half.

Caj looked at it, eyes wide, and confirmed it instantly.

The wedding ring.

Lost for 15 years.

Back in the light at last.

And just like that, our mission was complete.
