Lost Heirloom Engagement Ring Recovered at the Jersey Shore – Just After Sunrise!

I received a call from Sam, who was desperate to find his fiancée Megan’s lost engagement ring. The couple had been spending the holiday weekend at the Jersey Shore with family, enjoying a beautiful beach day.

At some point during the day, Megan removed her engagement ring—a family heirloom—for safekeeping and placed it in a beach bag lying near their towels. Throughout the day, the bag was used frequently, and by the time they returned to the house that evening, the ring was gone.

They rushed back to the beach and searched frantically, but had no luck. That’s when Sam reached out to me for help.

I immediately drove up to the beach and met them at the exact location. The beach was already getting crowded with people gathering for the fireworks show, but they were able to show me where they had been. We searched the area thoroughly. Even some nearby beachgoers moved their setups to give us room—but still no sign of the ring.

I expanded the search all the way to the high tide line and beyond, covering every possible location the bag may have been moved to. After a long, careful search with no success, I told them that if I had the chance, I’d return early the next morning.

On the drive home, I couldn’t shake the feeling that the ring was still out there—just waiting to be found.

At 5:00 AM the next morning, I returned to the beach and began searching again. Within minutes, I heard a clear signal—and there it was: a stunning heirloom engagement ring safely in my scoop.

About an hour later, Megan returned my call in total shock. She and Sam hurried back to the beach to be reunited with the ring they had feared was lost forever.

This was a recovery I’ll never forget—one that shows how important it is not to give up. I’m so glad I was able to help bring it back home where it belongs.

Alexandra sent me a text asking if I could come to Loveladies on LBI and recover her custom ring that she had lost in the lagoon. She explained that the tide was coming in quickly, the water was about chest-deep, and she believed the rings were only about 10 feet off the dock.

Knowing the rising tide could make the recovery much more difficult, I jumped in the truck and headed straight there.

When I arrived, Alexandra showed me the exact area where she thought the rings had slipped off. I entered the water and thoroughly searched the entire area she pointed out but came up empty. I expanded my search 15 to 20 feet in every direction, then worked closer to the dock and even a little farther out, but still nothing.

With the tide continuing to rise, I decided to push out as far as I safely could. The water was now about chin-deep, and I was barely able to keep my footing. Roughly 15 feet farther from the dock than where Alexandra had originally indicated, my detector gave off a beautiful high tone. I knew immediately I had found one of her custom rings.

Because the water was so deep, I had to drag my scoop back into shallower water before I could dig through it. A moment later, there it was—Alexandra’s custom ring safely sitting in the scoop.

Alexandra was incredibly lucky. Had the ring been just a little farther out in deeper water, the recovery would have had to wait until I returned with my scuba gear. Timing was everything, and thankfully we got there just in time.

Nexklace Vanished Into Beach Sand, Spray Beach LBI, recovered by Edward Trapper, NJ Ring Finder

Jersey ShoreRing Finder  Brandy called asking if I would be able to come to the beach and help her and her daughter find a necklace she had lost earlier that day. Since I wouldn’t be able to get there until well after dark, I asked if she knew exactly where it had been lost. She assured me they had marked the entire area with sticks and were confident it had fallen out of a pocket inside her beach bag.
After a long day, I finally arrived at the beach that evening. I had called Brandy with my ETA, and it worked out perfectly that she was able to meet me there. As we walked out to the search area, I was impressed with how well they had marked the location. Even in the dark, it was easy to identify exactly where to begin.
Brandy explained that she had taken her necklace off, placed it inside a pocket of her beach bag, and sometime later it must have slipped out into the sand without anyone noticing.
We marked out a search area of about 20 by 20 feet and I began a slow, methodical grid search. Because it was such a fine necklace, I had my detector’s sensitivity turned up very high so I could hear even the faintest signals. Partway through the search I got a very weak signal and was convinced I had found the necklace. Instead, it turned out to be the metal tip from a makeup brush.
After searching the entire grid without success, I decided to change my approach and perform a cross-grid search from a different direction. As I passed back over the same area where I had found the makeup brush tip, I heard another very faint signal. This time, after carefully scooping the sand, there it was—Brandy’s beautiful necklace.
Brandy and her daughter were absolutely amazed. We had already covered the area once, and they were beginning to lose hope. Fortunately, patience, experience, and searching from a different direction made all the difference.
It’s a great reminder that sometimes the first search isn’t enough. Never give up.
