Lost Wedding Ring Found at a Seafood Plant – One of My Toughest Recoveries Yet!

I recently received a call from Ken, asking if I could help him find his lost wedding ring. He explained that he worked at a seafood processing plant, and the ring could’ve been lost in several different areas on the property. From the start, I could tell this ring meant everything to him, and even though the search sounded incredibly difficult, I knew we had to try.

It was a busy weekend, but since the property was secure and private, Ken was willing to wait until I had an opening. After finishing another recovery nearby, I contacted him, and we met at the location.

As we walked the area, I immediately saw how complicated this would be. The site was full of metal interference—boat trailers, screws, fishing traps, nets, machinery, and roughly 15 bushels of old clamshells from the day the ring was lost. Ken had actually saved all of them, hoping the ring might have ended up in one.

We searched everywhere: where he had parked his truck, walking paths, the processing floor, and around heavy equipment. Still, no sign of the ring. The sun was setting and the bugs were out in full force, so we called it for the night and planned to meet again at sunrise.

The next morning, we got right to work dumping and searching through the remaining bushels of clamshells. We even went through extra containers from floor cleanup the day the ring was lost. Still, nothing.

Not ready to give up, Ken remembered a second parking area he had used that day. As I swept my detector over that spot, I got a faint but promising signal. I moved a few shells—and there it was—his wedding ring. There was a much higher conductor laying right there, so apparently it masked the ring quite a bit.

To show Ken what had happened, I put the ring back in place and swung over it again. As expected, only the louder target registered. But once I moved the ring to a cleaner spot, its tone came through loud and clear.

This search was a true test of patience, precision, and experience—and I’m thrilled we were able to bring the ring home.

It was a picture-perfect summer day at Goose Rocks Beach (GRB) in Kennebunkport Maine. Brandon and his wife, Taylor, were soaking up the sun, enjoying the beautiful weather, and spending quality time with a great group of family and friends. It was the kind of beach day memories are made of—until it was time to pack up. ?️☀️
As the day wrapped up and the group started gathering their gear to leave, Brandon went to take his ring off. In a split second, disaster struck. The ring slipped, caught the air, and went flying off his finger, completely disappearing into the sand right in front of him! ??

The entire group jumped into action. They searched and searched, sifting through the grains, but after a valiant and exhausting effort, they came up empty-handed. Feeling defeated, the group finally had to leave, leaving Brandon and Taylor behind to continue the frustrating search alone.

Before leaving the area, a call was made to the Kennebunkport Police Department to officially report the lost ring and asking if there was anything they could do to help find the ring. That phone call turned out to be the best move they could have made! The responding officers gave Brandon and Taylor some incredible advice: “You need to reach out to The Ring Finders of Maine. They have great success finding rings on the beach.” ?️?️

Once off the phone with the police, Brandon called me up and explained what happened. As I always do, I started asking a few quick questions to build a mental map of the recovery zone: Where exactly on the beach? Was it in the water or the dry sand? What time did it happen? Did you see or feel it come off?
Brandon gave me the whole story. Because the ring was lost high up in the dry sand, I didn’t need to worry about checking the tide charts or racing a rising ocean. I told him Cheryl and I would load up and be there in 25–30 minutes, depending on the summer traffic. ??

When Cheryl and I arrived at GRB, Brandon met us promptly and walked us down to the now mostly empty beach. Taylor was still standing guard at the scene of the mishap, waiting and hoping.
Whenever I work with clients, I like to do a quick demonstration to build confidence. I take my own platinum wedding ring, throw it into the sand, and watch it completely disappear under the surface. Then, I swing my detector’s coil over the spot. I don’t normally wear headphones on these types of searches unless there’s heavy background noise. I want my clients to hear the target tone at the exact same moment I do!
When my detector let out a beautiful, loud, low tone over my hidden ring, Brandon and Taylor’s faces lit up. They heard the exact sound we were hunting for, reassuring them that the equipment works, everything is above board, and they had professional help on site. ?

Brandon showed me exactly where he had been standing when the ring took flight. I could see the area straight out from his position where the group had spent hours searching. I set up to start the grid right where I had just thrown my own test ring. I turned on the machine, took my very first two steps, and swung the coil.

The detector screamed with the exact same loud, low tone and Target ID that my own platinum ring had just produced. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Could I really have just found Brandon’s ring less than two feet from my test spot in less than 10 seconds? ?
I reached for my pinpointer, located the exact target deep in the sand, and pulled out Brandon’s platinum wedding ring. UNREAL!!!! ??

Immediately, Brandon and Taylor broke out into huge relief smiles! Handshakes and big emotional hugs ensued right there on the sand. The heavy weight of a lost heirloom vanished in an instant, replaced by pure joy. ?❤️
But the celebration didn’t stop there. With the ring safely recovered, the happy couple broke some absolutely beautiful news to us: They are expecting their first child this upcoming November! ??
On top of that, they are looking forward to celebrating their second wedding anniversary this September, less than two months away. Now that Brandon has his precious wedding ring back on his finger, this sweet couple is just ecstatic and feels completely whole again. ??

Soccer Field Madness!!!

Success! The Bristol Rec Department reached out to me about assisting them locating 24 corners they put in last year for their soccer fields. They installed screw pins with white whiskers to help with making each year laying out the lines a breeze but a summer of mowing they did not stand up to the test of time.  The 4 smaller fields didn’t take much time at all to locate but the mid-sized field was the troublemaker. A Seven-Hour Ring Recovery Search in an Oklahoma River

I was contacted by a woman who had lost her ring while tubing on a popular river here in Oklahoma. She did exactly what I wish everyone would do after losing an item in the water—she took photos, documented the area, and provided as much information as possible about where the ring may have been lost.

With a good search area established, I set up my water-recovery gear and began working the river.

Several hours into the search, another person approached me and explained that they had also lost a ring in the same area I was already searching. Since I was there and equipped for the job, I added a second lost ring to the recovery mission.

After seven hours in the water, the search produced some surprising results. I successfully recovered the second person’s lost ring, along with five additional unclaimed rings from the same stretch of river.

Unfortunately, the original ring that brought me there was not recovered.

But that search isn’t over.

I plan to return as soon as conditions allow and continue working the area. Her careful documentation gives us a solid search zone, and until I’ve thoroughly covered it, there’s still a chance that ring is waiting to be found.

Sometimes recovery happens in minutes. Sometimes it takes multiple trips and many hours of searching. Either way, the goal remains the same: keep searching and return these lost items back to the people they belong to.  (Notice all the trash removed from the river during the search.)

Gold Wedding Ring Recovered in Chapel Hill

Lorrie, a very nice woman in Chapel Hill, contacted me about finding her late husband’s wedding ring. Since he passed three years ago, she had been wearing the ring on her index finger. Although she had been very diligent about always knowing where the ring was, it had gone missing and she was heartbroken. She had torn apart the inside of the house and was positive it was not there, leading her to the conclusion that it must have come out of her pocket when she pulled out a poop bag for her dog, Henry, in the backyard. We both thought this was a long-shot attempt to get the ring back, but given how dear the ring was to her and the time she had put in searching the inside of the house, I came over to close the loop and search that one last possible spot. The area where Henry does his business is small, so it only took 10 minutes or so to cover it – or at least it took 10 minutes for me to recover the ring. It was laying on the ground (under the grass and not immediately visible) right in the middle of where she thought it was. Any recovery is meaningful to me, but some are a little more heartfelt – like this one. Another happy ending! (After giving her the ring, she begged off on having her picture taken with no makeup – this was the best I could do!)
