Pendant found in Santee

  • from La Jolla (California, United States)

Mick contacted me wanting to find a pendant that his father used to wear before he passed. Mick himself buried the gold nugget pendant on the other side of a retaining wall in the back yard of the family residence for safe keeping. Now, years later, the mother has passed too and the house is to be sold, so, time to dig up the pendant….except Mick can’t quite remember exactly where that is, or, how deep, except that he didn’t think it was more than a foot. After some digging in a 3′ X 15′ area, he decided using a metal detector would be much easier. I met him at the site this morning before it got too blazing hot. A relatively small search area, but, rebar in the retaining wall, irrigation plumbing, various metal junk, and landscape lighting made it a bit more difficult. After using both my 15″ and 6″ coils without success, it was time to scrape off a layer to get to deeper targets. With the sun starting to poke through the overcast, I could feel why shoveling this dirt was plan B. Another pass over the search area finally produced a non-ferrous signal worth investigating. Even though the pendant was initially buried inside a plastic bag, no remnants of said bag came to light, but, the pendant did! A happy Mick can now sell the house without any sadness or lingering doubts about leaving his family heirloom behind. A pleasure to meet you Mick, and thank you for the reward.

Lost – Men’s Gold Wedding Band w/diamonds, PALM COAST, FL – FOUND!!!

  • from New Smyrna Beach (Florida, United States)

Tom had been in his backyard and lost his gold wedding band.  He thought he knew the exact area or at least within 6 or 8 feet.  It is about a 45-minute drive from my home.  Since it was so late in the day, and it was safe in his backyard, we decided that I would drive up the next morning.

On the drive up on Saturday, I talked with God about the ring and what it meant to Tom and his wife.  Tom told me he had the ring for 35 years and didn’t really want to lose it now.  I asked for His help.

I arrived at Tom’s home, and he took me to the back.  The thick Saint Augustine grass was beautiful.  I fired up the Minelab Manticore and got a hit immediately…it was a sprinkler head.

My second target was better.  Digging around with my fingers revealed nothing.  I got out my Minelab Pro-find (which is something like the wands they use in airports) and got a hit.  I saw the gold and diamonds shining nearly six inches below tangled in the roots of the grass!  Beautiful!  Tom and his ring were reunited.

Palm Beach Watsonville ring recovery

  • from Monterey (California, United States)

Watsonvill, Palm Beach.   14k class ring recovered for these folks.   The young man was wearing his father’s hefty 14k class ring.  As he was throwing a football back and forth to another person on the beach, he felt his ring launch .   Via the throwing motion force/velocity.   But couldn’t see exactly where it went, or how far it launched.   The dry sand immediately swallows it.

They went to the local Big Box store and bought a few $89 beginner model detectors, but :   Couldn’t figure out how to use them properly, and weren’t finding their ring.   I got the call, and was on the beach within the hour .   Very familiar with that beach, since I’ve hunted it since 1980.   Within a few minutes, it was my first target.  I think the heavy minerals were affecting their machine’s operations.   And despite having just been lost earlier that day, the ring was surprisingly deep.   D/t the heavy gold density weight of the gold, & the foot traffic foot steps in the area pushing it deeper.

The family heirloom, passed from father to son, is safe in the family’s keepsakes.   Glad I could help.  Thanx for the tip.

KINSTON, NC – LOST ANNIVERSARY RING GOES TO POT AND FOUND THE NEXT DAY

  • from Emerald Isle (North Carolina, United States)

Rhonda’s husband gave me a call stating his wife was doing yard work and working with plants in their backyard when she later noticed her diamond and gold ring was missing.  They tried to retrace her steps and even dumped out some potting soil and searched around the garden hose she used to clean up.   I made plans to travel North and agreed to meet Rhonda’s husband shortly after he arrived home.  I pulled into the driveway at 5:00pm and was given the short story of where to search.  I asked the common questions such as… was she wearing gloves?  Did she throw anything away…  While her husband started to search the garbage, I made a few sweeps in the backyard.  There wasn’t any long grass near the house and a few metal objects I tried to avoid.   The backyard did have many metal targets but, using my pinpointer, I confirmed they were not laying above ground in the grass.  I was told Rhonda changed the soil in a plastic planter on the back porch and I thought to myself, why not give that a scan too.  As I ran the pinpointer up and down the sides of the plant container, I heard a beep and Rhonda’s husband glanced over about the same time I look in his direction.  With his permission,  I removed the plant from the pot and scanned again to receive an even stronger signal.  My hand grabbed some of the soil and when I opened my fingers, Rhonda’s ring was found.  This is just another example of thorough detective work and anything is possible.

White Gold Engagement Ring Lost in the Sand Playing Volley Ball, Found and Returned Myrtle Beach SC

  • from North Myrtle Beach (South Carolina, United States)

I got a call from Tiffany just before 3 pm on Saturday, July 6th, asking about The Ring Finders. She said she had lost her Engagement Ring while playing volleyball. She also stated that her husband was on his way to buy a metal detector. I told her I could be there in 30 minutes and suggested she call her husband and tell him not to buy a detector. I told her that if he didn’t know how to use one, he’d be wasting his money. She agreed on me coming and she’d call her husband. She told me that she was in the Kingston Plantation Rental Complex waiting by the volleyball court. This has a guard at the entrance and sometimes it’s harder to get in there than other times. This time the guard looked at me with a puzzled look when I told him I was looking for a lady’s engagement ring, but he gave me a visitor pass and let me through.

I called Tiffany when I got through the gate, and she was still waiting for me on the court. I made my way around a pickle ball court and down a path to the volleyball court, which couldn’t be seen from the parking lot. I met Tiffany standing by the court and she showed me where she had been standing and the direction she hit the ball. I turned on my Equinox 800 and confirmed I was looking for white gold. When she confirmed the metal, I knew I was looking for a VDI (visual display indication) in the 6 to 8 range. I took 4 steps and got a solid 7. Bingo!!! I used my foot to push a small amount of sand in the scoop, lightly shook the sand out and saw her ring. She was extremely excited when I handed her ring back to her.

Tiffany – Thank you for calling me and trusting me to help find your lost treasure!

Wedding ring recovered at Bradley Beach, NJ

I was out detecting till 3am and got a wake up text from Jessica at 730 asking if I could help locate her wedding band she lost the night before. I was tired but said yes, i had time before they opened the beaches up. Jessica was ment to have her ring back. She was down watching the fireworks the night before and when she got home noticed her ring missing. She really didnt give me much information as to where to look. She just told me somewhere between 3rd and 4th ave mid beach. Told me what her ring looked like. I didnt have much hope with such a large area to look in but figured id give it a try. Got down to the beach and started detecting from the end of the walkway mat they have down towards 4th ave. Looking at the sand there weren’t many foot prints or butt impressions showing people were there so i figured id move down towards the water where there were. Heading back to where i starting on an angle towards the water, i wasnt 15 feet and got a great signal and figured id check it out and after scooping up some sand there was a gold ring in my scoop. It was hers. The first and only thing i dug. I feel like i must of been guided there. I went back to my car to phone her and give her the good news. She couldnt believe it and came down to meet me and get her ring back. A great and happy ending.

Yesterday I got a call from a young lady, who lost her engagement ring and wedding band at Jericho Beach. She took them off to apply suntan lotion on her child. She didn’t realized until she got home that her rings were missing. She put them on the towel and forgot and shook the towel. You can imagine her stress level and how that would feel. And her husband and baby race back to the beach and search for three hours with no luck. The tide was coming in, and soon it would be underwater.

Over the phone I did not realize that they not on the dry sand here on the wet sand, when I got there, they left a mark on the beach I rich search for 20 minutes with no luck fortunately, Mike, her husband came back, and after assessing the area, he believed the rings would be in the water. He left for home and shortly after and waste depot water. I found both the rings they were so beautiful and I was so happy to be able to reunite them with her wedding and engagement ring. Lost ring at swimming hole

  • from Arkansas City (Kansas, United States)

I received a message that Josiah had lost his wedding ring at a swimming hole near Winfield Kansas. Recently married, this ring was given to him by his Father and held sentimental value. After searching for about 15 minutes, I got a nice signal in shoulder deep water. A beautiful gold ring showed up in my scoop and was reunited with its owner. Thrilled to help out Josiah and his wife, an amazing couple.

Detector makes final save before dying!

I was really happy to have been able to help Liz recover a beautiful diamond ring set in white gold.

Her young daughter had earlier asked her why she was so sad – it was only the first day of their vacation on the Big Island – but they’d come to Hawaii for vacation and quickly lost one of her most valued items in the ocean.

The Fairmont Hotel in Mauna Lani gave Liz our number and we were quickly on the way from Kona with detectors in the car.

Meeting Liz, she explained she and her husband had swam around the area with mask and snorkel for hours but no luck.

I turned on my Minelab Equinox 800 – it had been a faithful detector in the past and I was sure I’d find the ring so long as it hadn’t been spotted by a swimmer or another detectorist. Sure enough, within 15 minutes of carefully combing the chest-deep water, I hit a big target and within seconds, the ring was back on Liz’s finger!

We took a few photos with Liz holding her recovered ring and my metal detector and said our goodbyes – it’s always a great feeling to be a successful part of someone’s Hawaii adventure.

I headed back for the water and hit the ‘on’ button on my Equinox. The familiar starting sound, then a strange low gurgle… I tried again. Same sound, then error codes on the screen. This detector is supposed to be waterproof to 10 feet and had only been in the water down two or three… I looked again and water started filling the screen and the detector let out a few chirping sounds, then went quiet.

This machine had recovered so many rings – but this would be the last. It made one final ring recovery before dying on the field.
