Gold Necklace recovered in Huntington Beach

Rich called me and explained that he had his wife’s necklace on his lap when they decided to pack up from the beach and go home. It wasn’t until they got home when he realized the necklace was missing.

I met him at the beach and he showed me the area they were sitting. On my second pass with my metal detector I received a good tone and the rest is history, the gold necklace came up with a gentle nudge from my foot.

Platinum Wedding Band w/Diamonds Lost in the Sand, Found and Returned Wrightsville Beach NC

Shortly before noon on June 15th, Demie called me asking if I could help find her Platinum Wedding Band at Wrightsville Beach. I told her it’d take me about an hour and a half to come up and I’d call the Ring Finder that covers Wrightsville and would call her back. I called John Finnerin and he said he wouldn’t be able to go. I text Demie back, told her I was on my way and gave her my ETA. A little bit later Demie sent me a pin drop with an address, so I knew exactly where to go.  When I was close, I sent her a text saying I was about 15 minutes out. This time of year, tourist and locals swarm the beaches especially with the daily temperatures in the high 80s, and this day was no different. When I was on scene, I text her saying, “I’m here, looking for parking.” After making a couple of laps around the streets, I called her and asked if her husband was with her, she replied he was. I asked if he could come out and drive my car around while I looked for her ring. She quickly agreed and said he is on his way, describing what he was wearing. After Nathan and I switched off I headed out on the beach.

As I walked out, I saw Demie waving to me. We met up where they had been sitting and she showed me where the ring had to be. The area was maybe 2’X2’. She said she had taken her ring off to apply sunscreen and was holding the ring in her teeth. Her husband, Nathan had knocked over a chair and when she turned to see what happened the ring flew out of her mouth. I turned my Nox 800 on, and made a couple passes over the area. With a lady’s platinum ring, I knew I was looking for a VDI (visual display indicator) in the single to low double digit numbers. Sure enough, 2nd swing, and I got a solid 8 VDI. Scraped a couple of layers of sand into the scoop with my foot, shook the sand out of the scoop and bingo! When I went to hand Demie her ring, I dropped it back in the sand and it quickly disappeared. I saw where it landed, found it again and this time handed it back to her. She was all smiles and almost lost a tear but held it. Got a big hug and was on my way out to find Nathan and my car.

I received a text from Mike who stated he had been cleaning his gutters and thought that he lost his wedding ring when tossing the debris in his yard. We talked and I made arrangements to head out and search the area. Upon arrival we talked and he was not sure if it would be in the front or back and also that he had cut the grass and mulched up the debris from the gutters. That concerned me because I thought that the ring could have been launched by the mower however he said that he did not have the side chute open. I felt a little better that it might be in yard. He also said he ran down to the store and bought a cheap metal detector but was unable to find his ring. I told him that was actually pretty common and I was glad he called me. He said the ring was tungsten.

I started my search and about a third of the way through the front yard I got a good hit. I parted the grass and there was his ring – sweet! Then when I pulled it out I realized it was only part of the ring. I asked Mike if that was it and he said yes. I felt bad that it was only half. He was good with knowing what happened and having half the ring back. I checked the remainder of the yard and was unable to locate the other half. He informed me that he wears tungsten because of work and that it was supposed to break under pressure so he understood. I had never heard that before and would not recommend testing that theory. However, he was very glad to have closure and said he would try to grind the edges and have it put on a chain. This was the first time I have only recovered a part of a ring. While I was bummed that it had broke I was glad to have saved a piece of his original ring and that he was planning on modifying it so he could continue to wear it. As always – it was a pleasure to meet another kind and generous client.

I received a text from Patrick who had lost his ring while cutting the grass. He had taken it off and put it in his pocket and thought it had fallen out in the yard. We talked and timing was not good as there were a lot of personal events happening. We talked and I found out that he was leaving for vacation and was going to make arrangements for someone to meet me at his house while he was gone. I thought about it and if I had been going on vacation I would be wondering and would not be able to truly have a relaxing time if my ring was missing, so I made arrangements to get there before he left.

He had marked a spot in the backyard where he thought it might be. I cheated and checked that area real quick and did not find it. Then I started my grid search. It took me between 5 to 10 minutes and I located it. It was not too far away from where he thought he had lost it. Patrick was glad to have it back and I was relieved to have found it. As always it was great to meet another kind and generous client and I hope he was able to enjoy his vacation a little more having his ring back.

Engagement ring in the bay – FOUND!!!

Let me just say that this is the kind of best man you want!  Anthony and his wife Katie have been searching non stop since their best friend’s fiancé lost her ring somewhere at their home on the water in Fairhope. Unfortunately, they didn’t know exactly where it was lost and after a month of searching the water and the yard and even in the house, they were starting to think it was lost forever. Luckily the couple reached out to me and Tom and I headed to Fairhope. Anthony did a great job explaining the events of the day and I decided to start in the water and Tom hit the yard. Anthony said he timed us and it was only 39 minutes before I came up smiling with a beautiful ring in my hand. It’s not everyday that you can find a ring that has disappeared into the bay for over a month only weeks before the wedding. Yesterday morning, Allison reached out to me in a panic about her lost ring from the previous night in Ocean City, NJ. Her beautiful gold Tiffany ring had slipped from her fingers and disappeared into the sandy beach as she was pulling out some clothing from her bag. Determined to help her, we met on the beach and I immediately began scanning the area with my metal detector. And then, just like that, a signal! With one swift scoop, I unearthed her precious ring. The look of relief and joy on Allison’s face was priceless. Another successful recovery mission in the books!

As usual I questioned her about exactly what had happened, as well as any information she might know about the water depth, clarity, current, etc. She explained that she had opened the state room door, stepped out onto the finger dock, and was brushing some crumbs off one of the boat cushions, when both rings flew right off her finger, into the dark water below. Jennifer was adamant this was exactly what happened, and confirmed both rings must be pretty much straight down, or possibly under the other boat, or under the finger pier. The water was a workable depth of around 5′ or so, depending on what end of the finger pier I was. Knowing how deep and dark the water was, I had to gather many items to ensure I had what was needed, to make this a successful recovery. Once on location at low tide, the water did average 5′, so that was a good thing. What wasn’t so good was how black and muddy the bottom was, as you can see the nasty black mud in the one picture. after clearing MANY targets, which is common in marina locations, I got a promising signal, that turned out to be Jennifer’s wedding ring. She was quite surprised I was able to find it with all the trash on the bottom. One would figure the other ring would be right near by, but after another 45 minutes, I had no luck. I really didn’t want to throw in the towel, but I was leaving for vacation early the following morning, and had to call it a day. Jennifer was extremely grateful, as I promised her I would return the first chance I had after I got home.

Lost White Gold Ring Found in Grosse Pointe Shores Michigan

Grandpa’s Diamonds….

As Mike and his wife were settling into their new home, he was anxious to begin some projects. He started various tasks outside and was multi-tasking making a good dent in the to do list. He worked slow and steady with lots of breaks to think of the next big thing to tackle. Towards evening he noticed his ring was missing. A terrible feeling came over him as it just wasn’t a plain wedding band, but one that contained 3 diamonds from his wife’s late grandfather. These diamonds were added to his ring as a surprise for Mike and presented at their wedding ceremony. Trying to solve the issue and find the ring before his wife found out he came across a toy type metal detector that was propped up in the closet of a nearby pawn shop. More frustration followed when that detector’s signal sounded like the car alarm going off, drawing the wife’s attention.  Now with both knowing of the loss they decided to reach out for professional help. Grid searching parts of the front yard with my MXT metal detector gave no results so out back I went. Slowly closing in on available ground the detector signaled good metal. Reaching into the grass revealed his ring! The diamonds were exquisite, with tons of fire and sparkle. I texted Mike to come out back and he was totally shocked that the ring was found! Feeling that divine intervention helped find the ring, he looked to the sky with a smile a mile wide and said thank you grandfather, I know your smiling now…. like your granddaughter will be when she gets home!

… A few days ago I got a call from Matthew. He was at Seal Beach, Calif.  He had lost his Gold and Diamond ring in the dry sand. My first question was to verify that could wait at the general location for half hour. I didn’t waste time discussing other details. It was more important to get on the road.

I was able to drive to Seal Beach, meeting Matthew and Lilly on the beach. This was very important to make this a quick recovery.

Shortly after turning on my metal detector, I got the nice sound of gold in my metal detector headphones. Digging in the dry sand with my Xtreme Titaium scoop revealed Matthew’s awesome white gold ring.

I know this beach well and I’m sure the beach cleaning machine would have scooped this ring up the next morning with all the other trash. The towel line always gets sifted in this part of the beach.
