Lost Platinum Wedding Ring… FOUND near Pell City, Alabama!

On a beautiful Sunday morning (April 7th, 2024), I was sitting on my outdoor patio rocking chair, enjoying a cup of iced coffee, watching birds eating at my feeder and two Bluebirds tending to their birdhouse.  A few minutes into my cup, I received a call from Emily stating she had lost her wedding ring.  She had been in a car accident a few days prior near Pell City, Alabama.  Thankfully, everyone in the accident was okay.

After the accident, Emily was standing near the wood line close to a gravel pull off point near the road.  She had a flat tire and was upset about the whole situation.  She lit up a cigarette and angrily threw the cigarette pack towards the woods.  She felt her custom-made platinum wedding ring with multiple diamonds and her son’s birthstone fly off her finger.  She had recently lost some weight, so the ring was loose fitting, but she hadn’t gotten it resized yet.  Emily and her family looked for hours, raking the pine straw and even buying a metal detector, but unfortunately, didn’t find the ring.  This was the ring Emily always dreamed about, constantly sharing photos with her mom, planning it for years.  Emily was absolutely devastated that the ring was now gone.  The sentimental value was beyond words.

Emily’s mom went on Google looking for ideas on how to find a lost ring.  She came across The Ring Finders website.  They (along with many others) were unaware that this metal detecting service even existed.  Emily’s call to me had given her some renewed hope.  I had an errand to run after lunch, but I told Emily I would be on the road as soon as I finished.  Pell City was about a 2-hour drive from where I live at in Huntsville, AL.

I met Emily and her boyfriend of 17 years at a nearby Love’s Travel Stop in Pell City around 4:30pm.  I followed them for about 10 minutes to the spot of the throw.  Emily’s mom and father stopped by shortly after we did to watch the recovery.

I had Emily show me where she was standing and demonstrate exactly how she threw the cigarette pack.  It was a sideways toss with her left hand.  I had her throw one of my test rings and it went straight out near where the cigarette pack had landed.  I put on my detecting belt, grabbed my Minelab Equinox 900, and started my search.  I spent about 40 minutes checking the main radius of where the ring should’ve landed.  I expanded out further, but came up empty handed other than the usual trash metal.

I asked Emily again about the angle of her throw.  Her boyfriend had seen her throw the cigarette pack, and mentioned she had a downswing at the end.  I know that rings can land at a person’s feet or even go behind them, so I expanded the search in that direction.  The search area was now on the gravel road of the pull off point.  I was still detecting and visually inspecting the gravel area.  I was making my way towards the left side, when my eye caught a glimpse of a large and gorgeous platinum ring laying amongst the gravel.  I quickly spun around facing Emily and her mom; with a huge smile on my face, and said, “we got it!!!”  They almost couldn’t believe it, lol.  Emily and her mom both ran over and gave me the biggest hugs, thank you’s, and praised the Lord.  The excitement, celebration, and relief were again, beyond words.  Truly, one of the greatest feelings.

The ring was slightly bent and had some scuff marks on the band, so it had been driven over.  But fortunately, all the stones were still there.  There was one diamond that was loose, so I gave Emily a baggie to keep it in until it could be repaired.  Everyone couldn’t believe how far this ring actually flew and the odd direction it went.  The last picture I included shows a dot where Emily was standing when she threw the pack and an “X” where the ring landed.

We chatted for a few minutes, took some pictures, and I was back on the road to go grab a bite to eat and then head home to Huntsville.

This ring is my 50th item recovered since I joined The Ring Finders on August 25th, 2018.  It’s been such a blessing helping others and it really provides me so much purpose in life.  I give all glory to God and my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  And a big thank you to my husband, Lindell, for allowing me to go on all of these fun and exciting adventures, lol.  I look forward to going on many, many more.

I received a call from someone who told me he “Thinks” he lost his 18K gold wedding band on the beach a few days prior. He was not sure where he lost his ring but was on the beach for several hours playing frisbee and when he got home noticed his wedding ring missing. He said he knew it was a long shot but wanted to try anything he could. I asked him to send me a diagram on a map of where he thought he was at the beach. Also needed to know the time frame so I could track the tides on the day he lost it, and a picture of his ring. The next day I went to the area and searched for his ring. 18K gold wedding recovered about 6-8″ deep.

Engagement Ring Lost In Beaufort, NC Ditch Found By Crystal Coast Ring Finders

Leina called to report her ring was somewhere along a dirt road but she knew the general area.  Her concern was there were heavy rains the day she called and was thinking it would be more difficult to locate her treasured ring.

I met Leina the next morning and she had said she bought a metal detector and tried to locate it herself but was finding way too many pieces of trash and numerous unknown signals.  She had given me a search area and I was also pulling out various metal items.  We continued along a wet ditch which had a tall metal fence on the opposite side.  The fence was causing my machine to sound off when I swung too close.  Leina was upset and I tried to calm her down with conversation.  We seemed to have a lot in common when it came to living through our years.  While I continued to search the roadside and ditch beyond her marked area, I was pulling more trash and then I finally hit the right spot.  Leina didn’t even noticed I had found her ring in the weeds and water.  I stood there to take a break and listen to what she was talking about (her upcoming wedding).  She was so stressed.  I held out may hand with her ring and said “Maybe this will help”.  She melted with tears and joy

Ring lost at Mission Beach found

Nicholas put his wedding ring in an ice chest for safe keeping while on the beach. The problem was, he forgot it was there and dumped the icy contents of the chest by the pedestrian entrance trash cans when leaving the beach. He didn’t even realize it was missing until he made it home 2 hours away. He was about to write it off as lost, but, figured it was a worth a shot to try and recover it even though it was a long shot in his mind since it had been a couple of days already. He found me on the Ring Finders directory and made contact. With just a map and a couple of circled spots to search, I headed to the beach on a cold, rainy, windy day. The first area was a bust, but, after moving some trash cans out of the way, the second area produced his ring. Today, Nicholas and his wife made another trip here and happily picked up his ring. A pleasure to meet you both and thank you for the reward.

Online Plea For Ring Lost On Surf City, NC Beach Results In Successful Return

Nevaeh made a post in late January about a very sentimental ring she lost the previous May on the beach.  She informed me that after a swim and as she was on the beach house steps, she felt the ring slip off.

Nevaeh’s fiancé gave her the ring for their first Christmas together and around the time she got her first tattoo of the sun.  Her fiancé had the Tiffany & Co. (her favorite jewelry brand) ring engraved with a picture of the sun.  This added to the sentimental value of the ring for her.

I contacted Nevaeh about the post and she agreed to allow me to search the area.  I parked at her friend’s beach house and was able to locate her ring about 4 inches down in the sand.  She & I was surprised it was still there and not more deeply buried by sand.  Being buried in the sand for 8 months made the silver ring a bit tarnished but Nevaeh informed me she would have it cleaned as soon as possible.

Ring lost at Mission Beach found

Alison and her family were visiting  other family here in San Diego. They had dinner at a local restaurant near the beach and walked to the boardwalk afterward. Here’s her story….

This is Alison, you helped me a couple weeks ago and here’s the story behind the ring:
My husband, myself and our two young daughters were in San Diego visiting my husbands’ uncle and grandmother. Our 5 year old daughter’s middle name is her great-grandmother’s first name; during this visit her great-grandmother (who we call Neemah) gave her a very special ring. This ring was HER baby ring, gifted to her 87 years ago. She has since worn it on her pinkie finger. This ring is a teeny tiny, thin gold band with a flush set diamond.
My daughter was so excited to wear it, we checked to make sure it would stay securely in her finger and we ventured out for some fresh seafood and sunset at the beach. As we were taking photos, my daughter exclaimed “Oh no! My very special ring. It’s gone!” She had been playing in the sand along the boardwalk and trickling it over the concrete wall. We’re from Colorado, so sand everywhere (no sandbox needed) is an exciting concept for little kids!
We frantically started looking everywhere. Keeping in mind, this is a tiny ring and we are rapidly losing sunlight. I am beyond myself, I could not believe I thought it would be a good idea to let my daughter wear such a sentimental piece of jewelry because it seemed to be securely on her finger. We searched for over an hour, frantically sifting sand inch by inch on the boardwalk side of the wall. So many kind people stopped to help, holding up cell phone flashlights. We then determined it must have fallen as my daughter was trickling sand over the wall. The ring was somewhere ON THE BEACH. We were all devastated. One passerby said her boss reached out to Mark when they lost a ring in the beach. She was even so kind as to pull up The Ring Finders website and Mark’s profile. By this point, it was 8pm. I was desperate but in no way expected Mark to answer his phone AND come immediately to our location.
Within 20 minutes of searching, Mark had successfully located Neemah’s baby ring! Even more impressive is the fact that the boardwalk at this particular beach is concrete – meaning it’s full of rebar. Finding a tiny ring, in the sand, at night, when equipment is picking up signals from rebar is a true testament to Mark’s skill and expertise. He was kind, courteous, prompt and most importantly, helped us recover an invaluable family heirloom. We cannot thank Mark enough!
Yes, it was right up against the steel reinforced sea wall and was found with my pin pointer after using the full size detector failed to find it due to all the interference.

Versace Watch Lost at Sunset Beach, Tarpon Springs, Fl…Found!!!

My wife and I were in Texas for our grandson’s second birthday when I noticed that someone named Heather had posted on social media that her son Jacob had lost his Versace watch at Sunset Beach in Tarpon Springs while playing volleyball with his family. At about the same time, another person had posted that her husband had lost his wedding ring at the same beach but they subsequently found it in the container that held their children’s sand toys.

I reached out to Heather and told her that I would be happy to search for the watch when I returned if it had not already been found. A few days later, I returned to Florida and Heather told me that the watch which was not only expensive but had a great deal of sentimental value had not been found. Jacob had taken off the watch and put it in his pocket while playing volleyball and the family had searched the volleyball court by hand as well as thoroughly searched the house and the car over the next several days. By that time, I was concerned that either the watch had been picked up by someone and not turned into park personnel or discovered by another metal detectorist. I set up a search at Sunset Beach with Heather the following morning. When I arrived, there was already another metal detectorist working another part of the beach and I asked him if he had searched the volleyball court yet and he said that he had not. Even though Heather had not arrived yet I began grid searching the sand court. I finished one side without hitting any targets, ducked under the net and began searching the other side. At a place where it looked like it might be a serving area on the court I received my first target signal on the search so I reached down with my gloved hand to dig away some of the sand and out popped a Versace watch! Heather had not yet told anyone what kind of watch was lost and I didn’t have a picture of it but of course I assumed that I had found what I was looking for! I was very surprised that the beautiful watch was still there because that beach area is heavily detected. I called Heather with the good news and at the same time texted her a few photos. We met later for the return and obviously Heather and Jacob were thrilled to have his watch back on his wrist!

FOUND! Ring of former Empress of the Imperial Court of San Francisco!

I was scrolling through my notifications on Facebook recently when I noticed one of my friends tagged me in someone else’s post. I clicked to see what it was and actually two of my friends had recommended me to help find a lost “item” in a park. I inquired further and found that the lost item belonged to former Empress of the Imperial Court of San Francisco, celebrity drag queen and legend of the LGBTQAI+ community of San Francisco, Ms. Donna Sachet!
Anyone who has had “celebrity” clients can tell you there is an extra sense of anxiety that comes with finding items for them. And this case was no different.

I met Donna and her dog, Peanut, at the location and together we walked over to where she was seated on a picnic blanket tossing a ball for Peanut the day prior. She shared with me a photo of the large gold ring and told me she was presented with this ring when she won the Empress contest years prior. It was important to her. I understood the importance, it marked an accomplishment. An accomplishment that recognized her work in the community. Over the decades, Donna Sachet has performed as a singer and has raised and donated thousands upon thousands of dollars for various organizations in San Francisco, not the least of which was an organization that I worked for for over 3 years in the early 00’s – The AIDS Emergency Fund.

I had been working for events that raised funds for HIV/AIDS and/or Breast Cancer organizations for many years already by the time I moved across the country from NY to San Francisco. It was through my work in NY  that I was able to secure a job in SF before I even arrived from NY. That job then lead to the AIDS and Breast Cancer Emergency Fund where I stayed for over 3 years before G.W. Bush cut government funding through the Ryan White CARE Act forcing the Emergency Fund to restructure. Unfortunately for me, that restructure did not include a position for me.

As a woman I always found it difficult to be recognized or seen when in a crowd of cute gay men working or meeting some of the folks who helped us raise money, so I didn’t expect Donna to remember or recognize me from those days. But our long list of mutual friends made sure we connected to help her find her ring.

I was running my new Legend and the ground at the park was  extraordinarily trashy. It took a while for me to adjust to the Legend since I’d only been out with it twice before and this was it’s first ring hunt. After close to an hour, Donna left, with tears in her eyes, thinking she would never again see her Empress ring.

Fortunately, I don’t give up easily. I put my hat on backwards, changed from my sunglasses to no glasses (a risky decision usually), put my headphones on (which had been off so Donna could hear the signals too) and within 20 or so minutes I located the ring.

I suspect it’ll be a while before Donna forgets me now!
