I received a call from a gentleman named Andy who requested my help in recovering his lost 14 karat white gold Cartier wedding band. Andy was walking his dog along an industrial street sidewalk that was covered with snow and ice. As he was taking his glove off to carefully “bag up” his canine’s “Number Two”, the gentleman saw his wedding ring fly off of his finger. He figured it had to be somewhere around that area, but after searching for some time for the cherished keepsake in the snow and dirt, all of Andy’s efforts led to no avail.

Sadly, the poor fellow had to return to his home up the street to share the bad news with his wife Cindy that his most special symbol of love from their wedding day was seemingly lost and gone forever. With the encouragement of his compassionate spouse, the two of them returned to that particular sidewalk. Later that evening, once again, both of their diligent efforts did not show forth the results that they were hoping for.

It wasn’t until Cindy decided to take this search effort to the next level that hope would finally make its way through the darkness. She went online and searched for answers to their problem and that’s when she came across the elite international directory of metal detecting specialists called THE RING FINDERS. Then, Cindy checked on the site to see who the closest detectorist was to them in the Baltimore, Maryland area and my name popped up. Excitedly, the very resourceful wife shared her findings with Andy and within minutes he sent me a text requesting a call from me. I could not have been more happy to serve the couple’s need and within a very short time of gathering up all of the details regarding the loss of the ring, we scheduled a time for me to come out the following day.

I will never forget that particular Monday that I drove out to East Baltimore to assist Andy in helping him recover his lost Cartier wedding band.  Because there were two other searches that took place prior to me driving north of the Washington DC area, it wasn’t until early afternoon that I was able to make my way to Andy’s neighborhood. My morning started in Alexandria, Virginia with a successful recovery of a lost ring in the snow. Then, I drove to Washington DC for my second ring search outside in the wintry environment, as well (I wasn’t so fortunate to find the missing gold and diamond Aggie A&M class ring in DC until after leaving Andy’s search to return to DC for Round Two).

I was really hoping that Andy’s ring was still out there somewhere because though there was still snow and ice on the sidewalk where he lost his ring, there were plenty of people that would be walking by throughout the day and it was quite possible that someone could eyeball Andy’s precious “circle of love”. If some melting would occur as time went by, my client recognized the potential of this unfortunate outcome, but he was also very optimistic that if he had a chance of recovering this extremely expensive and very sentimental possession, I appeared to be the right guy for the job!

Once I arrived in Andy’s neighborhood, my client led me down a few side-streets, which then took me to the bottom of the hill where railroad tracks and some other industrial buildings could be seen. I parked my car along the street just around the corner from where I would be metal detecting and Andy and I walked together to the search site.

The entire orientation time took no more than a couple of minutes as my client showed me the place on the sidewalk where he believed he lost the ring. There was a tall chain link fence that was to the right of the sidewalk and the asphalt sidewalk was still covered with snow and ice. I explained to Andy that our biggest challenge could end up being the interference coming from the fence. However, I also shared with him that I use certain methods to get around the enormous metallic “masking” that takes place when metal detecting around metal fences like that one. Because Andy wasn’t completely sure of the exact spot where he was picking up his dog’s mess, I told him that I would cover a large section of that sidewalk just to be certain that we didn’t miss any bit of real estate where the band could be hiding. If it still didn’t turn up, I would then go to the management company that owned the fence and the real estate within its perimeter in order to get access to metal detect the other side of the chain-link fence. In all honesty, I was hoping it would not come down to that. After my client showed me everything that I needed to see, I returned back to my vehicle to pull out the exact equipment necessary to conduct this type of search.

Once back at the sidewalk, I chose to use one of my detectors that has a small 6 inch coil at the bottom of it in order to scan areas where there is a high content of metal that could potentially interrupt my detecting. If the ring was still on the sidewalk, there was no way of knowing (with the snow and ice covering it) whether or not it came to rest near or literally just below the fence line. With using a smaller disc to move about in that search zone, it allows for the detectorist to create separation between the dominant metal (which was the fence) and the smaller piece of metal (Andy’s ring) that I was looking for.

Within the next few minutes following my initial set up of my machine, I did pick up a couple of targets that had some potential of being the handsome wedding band that I was searching for. Unfortunately, they turned out to be just false alarms. Then, just moments later, as I continued to swing the 6 inch coil just above the snow-covered sidewalk in a particular area that I had not analyzed at that point, I hit the perfect target signal which registered the exact numbers that I was predicting would appear if I found Andy’s ring. My client stood just a few feet away as he watched me kneel down onto the cold and wet surface to investigate this very promising target. I pulled out my handheld detector called a pinpointer and began moving it around the place where my detector picked up the signal. The distance between the object that I was checking out and the edge of the fence was approximately two and a half feet away from one another. Had I been much closer to the chain-link monster using a regular sized coil, it would have been detrimental to my search due to the overwhelming presence of metal that the 11 inch disc would have to compete with.

It took only a couple of seconds or two for my handheld machine to lock in on the exact spot where this piece of metal was hiding under the snow. Carefully, I used my fingers to move some of the excess ice out of the way to reveal the true identity of this metallic object. To my greatest surprise and delight, it turned out to be Andy’s most handsome 14 karat white gold Cartier wedding band! The interlocking artistry for this extremely heavy ring was most impressive! Because my client was just a few feet away observing this most magnificent recovery operation, I didn’t even attempt to surprise him! Rather, I excitedly picked up the hunk of 14 karat white gold and jubilantly announced the successful recovery of Andy’s lost wedding band! I immediately brought it over to him and the look on his “masked” face truly defined complete shock and awe! He couldn’t believe how fast I recovered the ring and I was just as happy that I was able to find it as quickly as I did! It was such a fantastic moment that the two of us got to have, celebrating the return of this most sentimental keepsake in Andy’s life! What a tremendous thrill! The whole experience was just as fun for me as it was for my very warmhearted client!

After Andy and I took some pictures together commemorating that awesome find in the snow, the two of us reflected on how fortunate Andy was to have that ring end up where it did. Had it been just a bit closer to the fence, even the smaller coil would have had a difficult time separating between the large amount of metal coming from the fence and from the very special piece of white gold that my client wanted back so badly.

As we said our goodbyes, Andy could not stop expressing his gratitude and his many sighs of relief knowing that this irreplaceable treasure was back in his possession once again! My client and I enjoyed our time together so much that we agreed that once the pandemic subsided, we would try to get together again. However, next time it would be a celebration of our new friendship that was uniquely birthed from Andy’s initial cry for help! What a special time that was on that winter day near the railroad tracks in East Baltimore, Maryland!

Finding a Lost Ring In the Snow in Calgary….After it melts

Blaine called me on Christmas Eve’s eve. She had lost her ring while brushing the snow off her car in a heavy snowfall.  The next morning we met but alas the parking lot had been plowed. The good news, they piled the snow in one location. The bad news, they piled the snow in one location. After an initial check, I realized I would have to try again once the snow went down somewhat. Ninety days later, I checked a third time. This time the snow had melted enough that there was a chance. Sure enough, it was just on the surface. Watch the video for the results.

December 2021 Miss Cee Cee contacted me asking for assistance in finding her promise ring lost in her  snowy back yard. She explained that she had stepped outside to take a few photos of the beautiful snow with her newly received ring. Without gloves her hand quickly got cold. Next thing she remembers she was shaking snow from her hands when she felt her new promise ring sliding off her finger into the snow. She tried to melt some of the snow with hot water but even after this she was still was unable to find her ring. 

When I arrived it was still very cold with snow covering the yard. I got straight to work with my detector and after a bit of searching located her promise ring. It was another ring saved from a snow covered yard. Miss Cee Cee was very happy to have her ring back on her finger. She told us she learned not to play in the snow with any rings on.

20k Gold Sapphire Ring Recovered King Edward Park Neighborhood, Edmonton Alberta.

Maddy called last Monday January 3, 2022 requesting my service to locate her ring that she had just lost in the back yard. I agreed to go out and do a search on Wednesday afternoon. I arrived at Maddy’s house and she explained what happened that day. She was walking down the stairs from her deck and slipped into the snow. When she got up and shook her hand she felt her ring fly off her finger.
Maddy told me the ring was given to her by her mother and was very sentimental to her.
I spent 2.5 hours in the extreme cold weather. It was -37 Celsius and my equipment started acting up in the cold! I decided to call it a day. I told Matty that Sunday would be a good day to continue the search since it was going to be -15. A balmy day compared to the past week.
I arrived at 1pm and within 5 minutes I found her ring in the snow bank! I have no idea how come I missed it on my first search. I believe it had to be the bitter cold weather affecting my equipment.

Platinum engagement ring taken back from the woods in Ellsworth, Mi with a metal detector.

I received a text from Ali she had lost her engagement ring in the woods when throwing leaves down a hill. Ali was going to be out of town for a couple days, she wanted me to communicate with her fiance Nick. I got a picture of the location she was throwing the leaves down the hill. The area was about 50 feet wide and the hill is very steep at about a 45 degree angle. They had rented a metal detector and tried for 10 hours to find the ring but had no luck.

Nick had to work Saturday but let me get started before he got home from work. I wanted to get started early just to have more day light to work the steep hill.

I started the search and realized I needed a rope to stop me from going down the hill. I brought my anchor from my boat the wedged it between two trees. Wrapped the roped around my free arm then started a grid pattern as best I could. I searched about two hour with no luck. I started another grid search at a 90 degree angle to the previous search. A good grid search was impossible due to all the small trees and brush. After searching the new grid pattern for an hour, I got the signal I was looking for and saw a small portion of the ring sticking out of the leaves. I moved the leaves away and found the ring.

I thank Nick and Ali for trusting me to find her lost ring and the generous reward.

Stolen Wedding Ring in Rathdrum Idaho, FOUND!!

Life steals away lots of things, memories, happiness, and loved ones. However when an item is stolen from your possession by another human it leaves a sting that never fully goes away. Likewise when the item is stolen by a family member you are left with a hurting heart and the feeling of a hopeless loss. For Ric and Ronda the latter came true while the snow began to fall in Idaho. The full story of the how the ring went missing was validated by a lie detection test and a trip to the pawn shop. Both tests proved that the ring that was stolen, was pawned, bought back and then thrown into Ric and Ronda’s front yard. A metal detector was rented and use but the ring still remained lost. Ric was using google to find a better metal detector but found instead The Ring Finders directory. I called Ric as fast as my fingers could dial the number he left in his email. We discussed “the story” behind the stolen ring, then made a plan for me to come over the next day. I arrived to the snowy front yard of Ric and Ronda’s and began to ask my standard questions of what kind of ring was it and what kind of gold was it made of. Ric’s reply was let me go get a picture of it. Ric came back out of the house with the insurance pictures of a stunning yellow and white gold marquise diamond wedding ring. I knew if the ring was there I was going to hear a loud signal under the two inches of snow. I could see the path where the person with a metal detector was looking but knew my 18 years of detecting was going to find it even if a coil had already passed over the ring. So back and forth I weaved talking and keeping the mood light. I had just asked a question to Ric while kicking away the snow that was over a 53 vdi signal, I remember that I had said “her ring” in the question. However I can’t recall the question because when I looked back down at the snow I saw the top half of a large gold ring. I said “hey Ric Her Ring” and I kept repeating her ring until he came over to look. Meanwhile Ronda was quickly exiting the front screen door exclaiming did he find it? With the pure excitement of the whole ordeal Ric’s wide eyes could not see the ring laying in the grass and snow. My hand met his and pointed out the location of his Wife’s wedding ring. Tears, screams of joy, clutched hands shaking with relief, my big smile , all erupted and all happened in less time then it took for the ring to fly out of a car window and land at the edge of Ric and Ronda’s snowy front yard. The story of life has many twists and turns, some leading to a hurting heart but leading to the joy only a Ring Finders Recovery can bring. Ric told me he had set the stones in Ronda’s ring 20 some years ago. I could see the happy moment when he gave her that ring for the first time, return to his smiling face. Blessed are those to hold on till the end knowing that at the end true peace will be delivered.

Lost Diamond wedding ring found in Traverse City, Michigan at Bryant park with a metal detector

I received a very nice polite call from Swapana asking if she could hire me to find her Platinum Wedding ring. I said sure and told her I could be at her location in about 1/2 hour.

I got to the location and her husband Brent met me in the parking lot. We went over the details while walking to the area they were set up at on the beach. They are in Traverse City for a family vacation and were enjoying the day at the beach. The kids were digging holes and having fun in the water. Swapana noticed her ring was missing. They spent time sifting through the sand with there fingers and had other people on the beach helping. They had no luck finding the ring. One of the neighbors on the beach recommended doing a google search on someone with a metal detector to come find the ring.

I got the search area was 8 feet wide by 8 feet long. She also walked to the car a couple times. I asked Swapana to move the metal chairs back a couple feet so they don’t mess with the detector. She replied they already did. So that told me to search a little closer toward the water. I started searching for about 30 seconds and got a good signal and the red dot on the Ctx3030. The numbers were right on the pull tab range. I knew by the tone it was her ring and not a pull tab. I bent down and stuck my fingers in the sand and pulled the ring out. Swapana was just finishing moving the two chairs and was turning to look back toward me and I handed her the ring. She stood there for about 10 second and could not talk in disbelief. Then I heard oh Shoot(not the word she used) he found it already. Her two boys walked up and were disappointed they did not get to see it. I told them if I found the ring to fast, I will close my eyes and they can throw it and I’ll find it again. The two boys though that was a great idea. Swapana was having no part of that and was hesitant to give me the ring back to do my close up picture.  I was happy to save the vacation for Swapana and her family.

Newlywed’s Lost Wedding Band Found in North Smithfield, RI

During a snow storm in December 2019, Lee lost his rose gold wedding band while playing with his Labrador retriever.  He was anxious to find his ring, so he purchased a metal detector.  After unsuccessfully searching for his ring, Lee decided to turn to someone who was experienced in the use of a metal detector.  It took about two hours for me to find the wedding band as Lee was not exactly sure where it was lost.  Lee and his wife of less than two months were very happy to have the ring returned to them.

Lost 18 kt gold ring from Italy found in Traverse City, Mi at the Grand Traverse Commons with a metal detector

I received a call on Wednesday night about 6:00 pm from Allison about her husband Domenicks lost wedding band. The ring is 18 kt Gold that Domenicks Grandmother bought in Italy. They made a day trip to Traverse City, Mi to visit the Grand Traverse Commons. The Grand Traverse Commons are the old Traverse City State Hospital that opened in November of 1885. Due to modern medicine the Hospital closed in 1989. The ability to treat mental patients with pills was the demise of the hospital. Now renovated and occupied with a mix of residential, retail, restaurants, an event venue, Cordia, a senior residential community, and an ever increasing number of businesses and entrepreneurs.

So, back to the ring find. I went Wednesday night from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm and did not find the ring. On the picture below, I searched the green shaded area. Allison had told me the only thing she did was go from the car to the tree to pick up leaves. The ring was in an upper pocket of her shirt because Domineck was throwing a ball further out in the field. She though the ring fell out of her pocket when she bent over to pick up the leaves. She was not sure of exactly where the ring was lost, because they were at other places in town also. She did not realize the ring was missing till almost back home. A 3 hour drive from Traverse City. I could not go back till Sunday, they had a outside wedding in the area Saturday. Sunday morning I put the 17 inch coil on the Ctx3030 and was going to grid search a very large area. Her statement about Domenick throwing ball out in the field stuck with me. So, after about 50 foil signals, I was checking another and moved my coil to the side and saw the ring. I was in disbelief and just stared at it for about 10 seconds. For people who do not detect foil sounds just like a gold ring. The ring was in the field about 40 feet past the tree on the opposite side of the parking lot. I texted Allison right away with the good news. She said I made her summer. On Monday morning, I shipped the ring overnight back to them.

Ring Found In The Snow At Stowe Mountain Ski Area, Stowe, Vermont

I got a call from a lady who lost her wedding ring while skiing at Stowe Mountain Ski area yesterday. She was extremely upset. Her ring’s triple bands represented her dog, her spouse and herself all as one. The employees at the ski area saw how upset she was and tried all evening to find it for her. I told her I could go look right away. She was actually calling from back home in Boston. I asked her if I found it, would she like me to mail it to her? She said “I will jump in my car and drive right back there!”

She gave me very good descriptions of the areas where she thought she may have lost it. The people at the ski area were extremely helpful and friendly, and gave me permission to search. So after about a half hour search, and hundreds of junk metal signals, I got a good signal under the chair lift. Digging down a few inches in the snow, there it was, sparkling bright and in perfect condition. I was sooooo happy for her! She thought she would never see it again. I immediately sent her a picture message. The people around Guest Services cheered.

After she got my message, she called me, hardly able to talk through the tears. She wanted to drive right up from Boston. I met her part way there, gave it to her and got my hugs!
