Engagement Ring Lost in Sand .. Newport Beach, CA. .. Found

I had a ring search earlier in the day at a park. When I got home to rest up I got a call from the same people telling me that they found the 2 platinum and diamond rings in their sofa. Five minutes later I got a call from Jessica who was at Newport Beach which is 4 miles away from my location. Jessica sounded very distressed that her rose gold engagement ring was lost in the sand. She had placed it in her beach bag for safe keeping. When she went to take towel out of the bag the ring went into the super soft fine sand.
Traffic and parking was a bit of a problem but I was able to meet her within a half hour. I asked them to stay in the area they lost the ring. They had the whole area staked out with towels and other beach items. I asked her what type of metal it was and if it was small or large. It took a few minutes to find it. I was surprised that it was such a broken signal. Rose Gold is an alloy and it was very petite which made it harder to detect. I know that this part of the beach will be sifted first thing every morning by the dreaded beach cleaning machines. If she waited a day to call me the ring would have been lost forever.
The smile on Jessica’s face and her two girl friend made it another beautiful day.imageimage

Wedding Ring Lost in Sand .. Belmont Shores, CA. .. Found

Eric called about 1pm asking to rent a metal detector. I explained to him about the cost of renting and how far away the nearest detector shop is located.
He told me that he was sure where the titanium ring was located. He was in Belmont Shores Penensula at the beach. After talking to him about how I could help him find his ring and show him how the metal detector works. I actually thought I would let him use my detector while I stood by. When I arrived he told me that he had been arguing with his wife of three months , Josselyn. In the heat of the moment he tossed his wedding band over the 4 ft. block wall into the sand on the other side. He said, as he was doing it he thought it would be easy to find. After three hours of searching the sand he went to his smart phone locating TheRingFinders.com .
When I got to the location he showed me an area of approximately 50×50 ft. where he thought it to be. Then he said they had to be somewhere by 3 pm. It was going to be a little more difficult than I expected. This was not a situation where we could do a detector demonstration. I decided not to waste time. So I set up close to the wall in the center, planning to do a spiral grid. I started swinging and within 3 ft. got a good signal 3 inches deep. I called Eric over to let him hear the signal before retrieving the metal under my search coil. When I dug into the sand with my scoop there was Eric’s ring.
Both Eric and Josselyn were elated and thankful. It was a pleasure to help them.

I received the following email from Mark this morning regarding his lost Wedding Ring.

 

Hi John,

My tungsten-carbide wedding band slipped off this morning in some short grass. I know the 5×5′ area it’s in, but after 10 minutes of searching I had to give up. I would like to know if you could come try your skills at finding it.

The location is at the corner of Chimney Rock and South Braeswood. If you can help, let me know your availability and we can work out a schedule.

Mark and I met in Houston this afternoon and searched for his missing ring. The search  area was a grass field adjacent to a roadway where he exits the running track. The recovery took less than 10 minutes. Marks ability to put us in the right spot was the main factor in the fast recovery. Nice work Mark.

Engagement ring found buried in the sand by two professional Ringfinders.

Encinitas ca, Monday 5/16/15  I received a  text From John Hughes  My Good friend from TheRingfinders and said he needed help on a search and the large diamond ring had a very small and thin platinum band with very little metal also the couple rented metal detector two days ago when the wind blew there seat and umbrella fell many feet over with the Ring in the cup holder.

I’m thinking to myself.. (Wow)..I just helped and returned with John Hughes a Diamond ring this morning  to a happy couple and Sentimental story to tell that day..Then I texted John (on my way 15 min E.T.A) see you there. When I arrived I had noticed the husband with a rented metal detector Griding and swinging like a pro.However 3 different  detector machines had scanned the small beach and short area where it was lost so walking down the long steep trail path I was observing and losing a little hope but Knew I had My Garrett infinium L.S. Pulse induction machine wich is very sensitive to deep and small gold in the most roughest & mineralized conditions.

 

I began cross griding a 30’x30′ area for 15 minutes when John turns his machine off said keep going that away and he walked over to Scott With his soon to be Wife Mrs. Ozuna.

15 seconds later I get a faint high/low  ring sound in the gold range,scooped..and OMG no way! I instantly was laughing in Joy Looking at the 3 of them hysterically like I won the lottery and Made a miracle actually happen.They ran over and after hugs,Tears and relief we could all hear the local and friendly crowd above beacons beach cheering as the sun was setting.The Most amazing day for us ALL.Thank you You all out there Who got to share this wonderful Moment on the news channel.

11:30p.m A lost diamond ring was posted on Craigslist by a women who lost it earlier the same day.I emailed her right away and directed her to visit TheRingFinders web page ASAP

First thing in the morning she called to meet her there.

When I pulled into the parking lot I saw 2 people with metal detectors searching the area she posted online.I could also tell they had very little to No experience by there machines and there swing.So I politely asked if they had found a ring?

They said No and one of there buddies was there at midnight searching…Keep in mind they never actually contacted the person who lost the ring.So the newbies continued searching when Robin the owner walked up and we talked for a few minutes to narrow the search down to exactly where she lost it. That’s when John Hughes my Ringfinder team mate arrived just in time.Meanwhile..The other detectorist were tired,unsuccessful and on there way leaving.The owner had shown me a picture she took when she lost it with houses in the background and I asked her, show it to john..John Yells..we are 100ft off..Curtis go grid over there!! 5 min later I get a ring sound on my PI machine,kick the sand,And looked at robin with the biggest smile,dropped my metal detector laughing:) she said Oh my God picked up her ring and gave me a hug.We were both Excited and in relief I had found it!

Lost Dog Collar in Laural Canyon Dog Park, Los Angeles, CA…Found

I received a call from Audrey about a lost dog collar, lost at a dog park. The collar was from her friend Sandra’s former dog who had been her close companion for many years, but had passed away. She now had a beautiful German Shepherd pup that the collar went on when Audrey took him and her own dog to the dog park. Pups being what they are were playing and exploring when as Audrey explained it to me “The pup went into the weeds and trees with his clothes on, and came out naked” (the collar was missing).

We agreed to meet on Wednesday morning to conduct a thorough search of the area. I looked at the hillside, and it full of tall weeds and a lot of dead tree snags; a perfect place for the collar to be lost. Audrey told me that there was a tag with a Swiss cross and the dog’s name, that was attached to the collar which was very important as well. I put on a 6 inch coil in order to get into all of the small spaces between weeds and snags. I searched for about two hours until I finally found the collar, but the tag was not with it. I searched around the area for the tag hoping it fell off in the same area, but was unable to come up with it. The park is very large, and Audrey thought there might have been another spot where the tag might have come off, so I searched that area as well, but was unable to find the tag. Fortunately I was able to find the collar. I was able to provide some closure to the loss with the collar find.

Update 4-4-15:

Sandra found the missing dog tag close to home, so she has been reunited with both the tag and the collar.

Confirmation Medallion Lost at Torrance Beach, CA…Found.

On my way out to a ring search in Newport Beach last Sunday night, I received a call from Maya who told me about a St. Michael medallion she lost at the beach, and asked if I would try to find it for her. I let her know that I was on my way to help someone else at the time, but told her that after I was finished, I would go to the beach she lost the medallion at, and do a search. She did give me very specific directions, and I felt comfortable going because I know the area well. There was a sense of desperation in her voice, so I knew it was important to her that this item be found. I also knew that this beach is cleaned very well on a daily basis by the county, so there was no time like the present to do the search.

I successfully finished the search for the ring and headed to the other beach in Torrance which was about 30 miles away. When I got there it was about 11:30 PM, and I got my gear and began my search. I searched for about half an hour, searching out the box she had laid out for me over the phone, and found the medallion. I sent her a text immediately giving her the good news, and received one back about 4:30 AM from a very thankful young lady. We arranged to meet at the location of the loss today, and her father came along as well. I was glad he did when I asked about the significance of the medallion. He explained that this medallion was given to him when he was 12 years old at his Confirmation, and he had kept it since then. This piece of jewelry is over 40 years in the family. He then gave it to his daughter at her Confirmation. It was at this point that I realized the huge importance of returning this to the family. The story of this St. Michael medallion needed to continue, and it has; I am so happy to be part in it. Great smiles on father and daughter.
