Received a text from this ladies husband saying his wife had lost a very sentimental earring in their yard while spreading mulch and asked if I could help.

After getting the location details, I headed out. I arrived, got the story and began my search. I used her other earring as my example in the program I was using but it wasn’t picking it up very well. After about 50 mins I switched coils and settings and used her other earring as my example again. After a few more mins I found it right where I had started! My first settings and coil wasn’t picking it up very well. Sometimes you have to take a step back, adjust and try again.

She had come out crying at one point so I knew I had to find this earring for her! I could tell it meant so much to her and I wasn’t going to give up until it was found! I told her “All hope isn’t lost, I will give it my all and do my best to get it back to you.”

They both were inside when I found it. So I still had the other earring and some nails. I knocked on the door and she answered and I said “I wanted to give you the other earring and these nails!” But I had both earrings in the mix and the surprise on her face was priceless!!!! She was so emotional, thankful and she went and played the same prank on her husband!

This is why I do this. I love these happy endings that makes my day!!!

Diamond earring lost and found – Daphne, AL

Last night, just as I was heading to bed, my phone dinged with a message.

“Sorry for the late text,” it read. “Lost 1.5 carat diamond earring in a flower bed. Call tomorrow… or Monday… or now.”

Well… of course I called now.

David explained that his wife Jennifer had lost her earring while working in the flower bed earlier that day. They believed it was somewhere in the pine straw around her hydrangeas. It was insured, he said… but it was a sentimental gift that meant a great deal to her.

Earrings are my least favorite type of jewelry to recover – they are sooooo tiny. But there was no way I was saying no. We made plans for me to head to the next county over the next day and give it a shot.

Fortunately, they had the matching earring. That gave me a huge advantage. I ran it under my Minelab Equinox 900 to check the VDI and tone.

Park 1? Nothing.

Park 2? Bouncy low tone.

Beach 1 and 2? Nada. 😬

Gold mode? A nice solid signal.  Now we’re talking.

The search area was small but tricky—pine straw, landscaping debris, and plenty of potential junk targets hiding underneath. Jennifer stood nearby, clearly anxious, asking what she could do to help.

My answer?

“Pray.”

(Which, honestly, I do with every swing when I’m working a recovery.)

Almost immediately, I got a promising signal—perfectly matching the test earring. My excitement didn’t last long… after chasing it with my pinpointer for what seemed like forever, I pulled out a teeny, tiny scrap of tinfoil.

Next target? A small nail.

Then more foil.

A screw.

Even a Christmas light connector.

I started weighing my options—carefully remove the pine straw or move to another area she had worked. Just then, I caught another shallow 2 VDI tone right along the edge of the flower bed where it met the monkey grass.

I knelt down, reached in with my pinpointer, and gently pushed the grass aside…

…and there it was.

A flash of sparkle.

That unmistakable wink of a diamond looking right back at me. 🙌

I’m not sure who was more surprised—me or Jennifer—but I can tell you this: there were happy tears from both of us.

That feeling never gets old.

The best reward isn’t the find itself—it’s the look on someone’s face when you place a lost, sentimental piece of jewelry back into their hand.

Snow Swallows A Ring In Calgary

While walking the dog after our first significant snowfall of the year, he slipped and his ring disappeared. Three hours of unsuccessful searching resulted in nothing. Then he found me. The biggest concern was the large water drainage grate right where it happened. It could have gone down.

Disney Earring Lost at Watch Hill Beach, Westerly RI… Found!

Surf lessons turned ugly when an 8-year-old lost her Disney earring. Jeff was teaching his daughter how to surf on a sunny evening at Watch Hill Beach just outside the Ocean House. Unknown to Jeff, the daughter’s friend must have placed an earring on the top of the surfboard near a large piece of driftwood. By the time Jeff grabbed the board, it was already too late. The child’s earring was lost in the sand. Losing a Disney earring can quickly suck the fun out of any activity. I know this because this is the second time I have found a lost Mickey Mouse earring from “The Happiest Place On Earth,” and the owners are always heartbroken when the loss happens.

Jeff approached me the lost earring story as I was finishing up an engagement ring search. Luckily Jeff had the other earring, so I was able to run a test and identify the metal detector tone of the lost earring. Once I was familiar with the sound, I started to search. The pressure was on as the 8-year-old children watched my every move. Searching around a large piece of driftwood where the surfers hang out, I held the lost Disney earring within the first couple of minutes of searching. The group of onlookers was in shock. They felt the likelihood of finding such a small lost item in the sand was low, which made the surprise so special.

“An 8-year-old placed an earring on my surfboard without telling me, and I moved my surfboard. Fortunately, Keith was in the area and volunteered his services to help the child that lost the earring. The greatest joy when it was found was by me since I am the one that dragged my daughter’s friend to the beach, and I felt responsible for the lost earring. We had given up when Keith came by and tracked it down in about 5 minutes. A happy ending to a stressful surf session” – Jeff

Lost diamond earring, Port Orange, Fl…..Found and Returned!

Last Friday Amanda called me from San Antonio, Texas with a very special request. She explained that her mother Liz, who lives in Port Orange, Florida had just lost a very expensive diamond earring! Two days earlier Mrs Liz had an invitation to eat lunch at a friends house and before heading out the door she decided to wear her beautiful earrings that were a gift to her from her husband Tom, 14 years ago. They had a wonderful time visiting their friend and after a delicious meal Mr. Tom and Mrs. Liz headed for home. Immediately after arriving home Mrs. Liz went to her bedroom to remove her special diamond earrings and to her dismay one of them was missing. And the search began! They looked everywhere and could not find it. And she decided to call her daughter Amanda in San Antonio for some advice. Amanda went right to work searching for some help for her distraught mother and after typing “Metal Detector Rental Orlando” into her phone she found theringfinders and one of my search and recovery stories. The call was made and the next day I met Amanda’s parents. Mr. Tom and Mrs. Liz said they had the other earring in a small plastic bag so I could get a reading with my metal detector, but unfortunately the bag got misplaced or thrown out that morning and we had a frantic 30 minute search—emptying garbage bags and crawling all over the house. Thankfully Mr. Tom finally found it in the thrown out newspaper bin!! Before heading to the neighbors house I searched the car, the garage and basically the whole house with my flashlight and then we headed to the friends house.
At the friends home Mrs.Liz showed me where she walked, partly on the thick St. Augustine grass and half way on the cement driveway. I was barely able to get a reading with my metal detector on the diamond earring because of the small amount of gold and the thick grass prevented me from getting the coil down to where it could detect the lost one—if it was in the grass. I ended up going over the whole area using my Garrett Pro Pointer and still no earring. I then made my way into the house basically crawling on my hands and knees with my flashlight searching every possible nook and cranny. Mrs. Liz showed me where she sat at the dining table and underneath the table was a beautiful white shag carpet. So I moved the chairs and with my flashlight I scanned the carpet hoping for the sparkle of the lost diamond earring. Nothing! I then thought to run my hand over the carpet and after a few sweeps I felt something pop up and sure enough it was Mrs. Liz’s precious earring! Mrs. Liz kept saying “I can’t believe you actually found it”

Lost Earring Queen Elizabeth Park Edmonton, Alberta (Found)

I received a call from Annette yesterday requesting my service to help her locate an earring that had been lost Wednesday in the park. We agreed to meet this morning.

When I met up with Annette  she said the earrings were very special to her as they were hand made in South Africa and had sentimental value to her.  Annette showed me the area where she had been walking , and that was now covered in fallen autumn leaves  just like her lost earring.

After about a 1  1/2hour search her earring was found and Annette was very happy to have her missing earring back in her possession.

Lost One Gold Diamond Earring! St. Albert, Alberta. Found

I received a call from Stan on Monday morning asking if I could help him find his wife’s earring that she had lost while planting lilacs in her back yard.  I met with Stan and his wife Brenda, and Brenda explained to me what she was doing that day and that it was only after cleaning up that she realized she had a missing earring. I started at the last hole Wendy dug checking around the lilac bush and there I found the small gold back to the earring. I pulled out the lilac tree and checked the hole for the earring but it was nowhere to be found.  

I thought the earring had to be close by but that was not the case.  I spent the next couple of hours scanning both Brenda’s back and front yard with no luck.  After asking many questions trying to jog Brenda’s memory she thought that she may have lost it in the shower and it had possibly gone down the drain.  I told Brenda I would return the following day with my camera so I could check her shower drain. I returned the next day and decided to take another shot at the back yard using a different metal detector White’s(V3I). As I knew the earring had to be close by! Within 20 minutes of scanning the front yard I found her earring next to a cedar bush that I had scanned the previous day. Brenda was very happy when I informed her that her earring had been found.
