Lost wedding band found in Philadelphia by Dave Milsted

I’m home from vacation unpacking & cleaning my metal detectors, and I get a phone call from Kate. She says that her husband was in the backyard watering the flowers when he lost his wedding ring.

I ask the usual questions when was it lost? Today Is there any metal fencing around? No Has anyone else looked? No. She said it was lost a few hours ago, they believe that it is in the neighbors yard, but its un-kept. They live in Philly. The thought about renting a detector and while searching for detectors my site came up. I looked up the address and said that I could be there in 45 minutes. She said make sure you come prepared, there are a lot of mosquitoes.

After searching for a parking spot for about 20 minutes I found one about a block away. I took 1 detector with me and walked to their house. I met Brett at the door. He showed me out back and where he was. He said he was watering the plants when a mosquito buzzed by his ear. He swatted at the bug an his ring flew off. He didn’t hear it land so it had to be in the neighbors yard. His yard is covered by a wooded deck.

The neighbors yard was a mess. It hasn’t been taken care of in years. The only way in was to climb over a 5 foot cement wall. Brett said that the neighbor game him permission to search, but he had to figure out how to get in & out.

The bugs were worse than I imagined. I had to go back to my truck and get a send detector with a smaller coil because of all of the trash. I also put on a long sleeve shirt and a hat that not only covers my head but mu neck too.

With the assistance of a step stool I was able to get into the yard, not sure how I was going to get out because it was much higher on this side. There were so many metal items in this yard my hopes were very low.

I decided to look around 1st. There was no grass, but plenty of weeds and 3-4 foot saplings. Weeds with sticker balls and the like. I searched for about 15 minutes just by looking. Moving the plants & saplings. I was just about to gram a detector when I saw the ring.

It was a beautiful tri-colored gold ring. White gold, yellow gold & rose gold. Brett said when he was looking for rings for the wedding he just couldn’t find one he liked. He told his dad the the only ring here really likes is the one his father wore. His dad without hesitation gave him his ring. So there was a huge sentimental attachment.

I found a milk crate to give me a little height to try to climb out of the yard. It was just enough for me to pull myself up and get over the wall.

We went into the house & took some pictures. I’m not sure if I would have found it with a detector, even with a 3 inch coil to get through the trash. I guess I am getting pretty good at this treasure hunting thing!!

Lost Ring in Water Canal La Marque, Texas (Recovered)

I was contacted by Paul last week regarding a very special ring that he had lost in the canal behind his home in La Marque, Texas. Paul said while working on some underwater fishing lights in the canal behind his house the ring had slipped of his finger and disappeared into the dark waters. Paul told me the ring had belonged to his father, and it was one of his most prized possessions.

Paul provided me great detailed information on the site, sending photographs and finding the answers to all relevant questions regarding the search and site.

Paul and his wife were extraordinary, and I consider them to be good friends and look forward to seeing them again in the future.

I was contacted by Kiptyn today regarding his wife’s lost wedding rings in their neighbors backyard. Kiptyn said while participating in some outdoor activities yesterday his wife had lost her rings. Kiptyn said his neighbors lawn service was at their house preparing to mow the lawn. Kiptyn asked how quickly I could get to his location to search for the lost rings.

My schedule was open, so I immediately headed to his residence. Upon arrival, Kiptyn introduced me to his neighbors and the search commenced.

The area in question was searched extensively but yielded no results. This was another example of needing to extend the search area, and in doing so,  Kiptyn’s smile tells the rest.

Another Wedding Ring Found in Lake Michigan!

While camping with his wife and in-laws at P.J. Hoffmaster State Park on Lake Michigan, Josh B. lost his wedding ring in the surf while tossing a football about 30 yards from shore.   Since I love metal detecting in the big lake, I get alerts from the local weather service when there are hazardous conditions on the lake shore and I had just received one of those alerts before Josh contacted me.  There were 6-9 foot waves and dangerous rip currents for the next two days and I knew it would impossible to search before Friday morning.  Josh wondered if it was even realistic to be able to find it after those conditions.  I told him of a similar situation that had occurred at Grand Haven State park last year and that I was successful in locating a wedding ring after that storm.  If he knew where the ring had fallen off there was a good chance I’d be able to find it.  Josh took a couple hours off work Friday morning and we made the trip out to the beach getting there shortly after sun rise.  Since there is no public parking in the campground, we parked about a half mile south of the campground at the public beach and made the hike north to the State Park beach.  During the hike north, Josh asked what my success rate was at finding rings in Lake Michigan, I said 100% so far (I hoped it stayed that way!).  The waves were still a good three feet and tossed me around a little but was I able to locate Josh’s ring in about 20 minutes.

Lost Engagement Ring at Bolsa Chica State Beach, CA….Found.

I received a call from Veronica last night about her engagement ring that was lost while she put on sunscreen at the beach earlier in the day. I had a previous commitment, and told her that as soon as I was done I would be right over, although I knew it would be after the closing of the state beach which was 10:00 PM. I did press upon her that it is important to search for lost items right away for various reasons, and this was the reason I was willing to come at that late hour; I wanted to make sure she got her ring back. From everything she related to me, I felt very confident I would be able to find her ring.

I met Veronica and her sons at the North end of the beach outside the fence because it had closed for the night. From what she said about the location, we had about a 3 mile walk to get there. When we got to the location, she showed me where she had marked the area she and her friends had searched. She had even purchased two metal detectors earlier to find the ring on her own. What I have found is that people who have little experience with detectors, and are using inexpensive models tend to suffer a great deal of frustration, because they don’t know what they are trying to listen for, and the inexpensive models tend to pick up everything the same way. Her fiance finally told her that she should look for an experienced person to help her, so she went to the internet and found me on TheRingFinders.com directory.

I began my search, and found a good share of bottle caps and coins (one of her boys even put down a dime to test me, which I did find, and we all had a laugh) in the area she originally showed me, and of course I looked further out of the box, but did not find the ring. We then discussed the location again, and decided to move to the other side of where I began the search and grid the new area. It wasn’t too long before a state park police officer came up and wanted to know what we were doing, and to let us know the beach was closed. When I explained to him the circumstances he decided to let us continue, It was now about 11:30 PM. The officer had just began to leave when I found the ring, at which time when I showed it to Veronica, she began to jump and scream for joy. Her screams brought the officer back, and we showed him the newly found ring, which I am sure made him feel good as well knowing that he could have dismissed us, and made us leave, but it was just that few minutes later that made it happen. You can see the joy Veronica was feeling last night in the attached photo, which made that 3 mile walk back seem very short indeed.

Wedding Band Found in Sand .. Huntington Beach, CA.

Ben and his family were vacationing in Huntington Beach, CA. They’re from Las Vegas, NV. where it is hot this time of year. His wife and his two young daughters went out to the beach while Ben was surfing. Ben had forgot to remove his wedding band before venturing out into the water. He took it off his finger to slip it inside the sleeve of his wetsuit.
Returning to the beach blanket with his family, he removed his wetsuit. It wasn’t until some time had passed that he remembered his ring. Now he was sure if it was lost in the sand or the ocean.
They spent two hours sifting through the sand with their fingers. He then found me on TheRingFinders.com .. He said he google searched ” lost ring ” if I remember right. I was 8 miles away so it was easy to meet him and the family within a half hours’ time.
I told Ben to keep an eye on the location as there could be a chance that another detectorist could come across his ring before I got there. All worked out well because the White Gold wedding band was right there in the dry sand. It had not been lost in the ocean which can be found but the process can be more of a challenge.
Everyone was happy, especially Ben’s wife. I like to joke around claiming, I save marriages. I know it does calm things down. It was a great day with an awesome sunset.

Lost Wedding Ring Recovery Minnesota

Matt gave me a call and informed me of the following ” I lost my wedding ring last weekend in about 8 feet of water as I was reattaching our water trampoline to its concrete block anchors”. I had a busy schedule and luckily the ring was lost in a private dock area, I was able to meet Matt the next weekend and search the area. It was a quick dive, truly about 2 minutes. Matt had removed the chains from the blocks and marked the area with a buoy tied to a rope. This helped out as the ring was found right next to the blocks,  if the chains had still been attached; it would have masked the tones from my metal detector. Thanks for preparing the site Matt!!!  Glad I could help out  –

Lady’s 14K White Gold Wedding/Engagement Rings Lost in the Sand – Recovered in North Myrtle Beach, SC

Got a call at about 11:15 am from David saying his wife, Rose, had lost her Wedding/Engagement Rings in the sand and wanted to know if I could help find them. Told him I’d be there in 15-20 minutes.

David met me in the parking lot and on the way out to the beach explained that he and his wife suspected their little daughter may have picked the rings up out of the cup holder in the beach chair. Once we got on the beach I met Rose and the little culprit, who looked so innocent.

I made a line in the dry sand with my scoop that measured roughly 10X15 feet and had David and Rose clear the beach umbrella, beach chairs and other items from inside the search area. On the third pass I had the ring. I turned around to Rose and asked her what the ring looked like but she already knew I had found it because of the rattle in the scoop as I shook out the sand. I held the scoop up and let her pull it out. Another successful recovery with big smiles all the way around.

Total search and recovery time was under 2 minutes.

David and Rose, thank you very much for the reward.

HS Class Ring Lost, Found and Returned from Pass A Grille beach

During a recent detecting trip Mike Miller found a class ring. He started a search to find the owner (Tracie) and was able to find her and return her ring to her.

Her story is that Tracie and her fiance (David) were at her favorite beach for the afternoon. David was wearing her High School class ring and she warned him that if he lost it he was a “dead man”. He went into the water and was pulling himself along the bottom in waist deep water where sure enough the ring came off. Tracie was not a happy beach person after that, but they looked for the ring and finally gave up.

A couple months later she got an email telling her that Mike had found her ring and would like to return it to her. Overjoyed she contacted him and they met at a local Gulfport restaurant. She said not only did Mike return her ring he saved her fiancé’s life. The picture and smiles say the rest.

Grand River, Diamondale, MI yields lost ring

Rick Magyar a fellow Ring Finder called me the other day and asked for help finding a lost ring in the Grand River. What had happened is Cory V. had received a 14k gold wedding band from his grandfather who had passed away a week before. This ring was going to be used in Cory’s upcoming wedding. Cory and some friends where in the Grand River enjoying themselves on a hot summer day when just before getting out of the water he felt the ring slide off his finger. The river was about 2 to 3 feet deep with weeds and about 6 inches of mud. Rick had been out on a hunt previously and was  unable to locate the ring so he called on my help. When we arrived at the river we met Pam who’s house they were at when the ring was lost. We went down to the river and proceeded to search. While I went out about 4 feet from shore Rick was looking closer to shore than where he looked before. Rick got a hit and Dave B. verified the hit with his AT Pro, because of the muck Dave let Rick use his underwater pointer and after Rick grabbed a handful of muck the pointer continued beeping as he pulled it up to search. There it was mixed in with a handful of black mud gleaming slightly in the sunlight.

We took the ring up to Pam and she called Cory who lives out of town it turned out to be a happy day for all involved. We asked that Cory send us a close up picture holding his ring for our Book of Smiles. So watch for an update to this story in the next couple of weeks.
