I got a call yesterday evening from Ashley who had lost her wedding ring at East Beach in Santa Barbara. As what usually happens, she had given her mom her rings so she could go for a swim and not have to worry about losing them. Unfortunately her sweet mom forgot she had them and got up and during the course of her afternoon lost both the rings. Thankfully she was able to find the larger engagement ring but the wedding band remained elusive.

Yellow Gold Bracelet Lost in the Surf, Found and Returned North Myrtle Beach SC

On August 22, 2026, and just after 11 a.m., I received the following text on my business suite. “Hi! I’m ISO someone with a metal detector. My precious gold bracelet my late mom got me was lost at the beach near the Ocean Garden Villas. If anyone is in the area happens to be out there with one and you see my bracelet, please contact me. I am desperate.” I replied with a text saying, “Call me, with my phone number.” A quick check of the tide tables showed low tide was at 9:30 a.m. So, if she had just lost it then it’d be underwater by the time I got there. When she called, I asked her what time she lost it and how deep she was. When she responded that it was lost at 5 a.m. and maybe knee deep, I had hope. I told her I’d be there in about 20 minutes and was on my way.

When I arrived, I met Madison on the beach, and she showed me the area. I thought that after about 6 hours, her bracelet should be in the wet sand and easily reachable. I started an east/west grid search from the high tide line working out to about knee deep. As I’m working the area, another guy came walking by with a detector. I didn’t approach him, but I did watch him in case he started digging a target. He walked on by and headed down the beach. So, I continued with my grid. About my 6th line, I hit a solid target and dug it. As I’m pulling out my third scoop of sand, I saw her bracelet fall out of the scoop and back into the water filled hole. I reached down in the hole, felt the bracelet and pulled it out. I got lucky because the guy with the detector had to of walked close enough to get a signal from it. Anyway, Madison and her friend were lying on the beach getting a little sun. I walked up to where they were and held the bracelet up for Madison to see. She flew off the towel and met me on the fly. She hugged my neck and her tears were flowing down her cheeks. I love making happy returns.

Ring Finders Find iPhones Too! Serendipitous Return From The Waters of Waquoit Bay, Falmouth, Massachusetts

When I was searching for Rose’s wedding ring on a Washburn Island beach three days ago, one of the stray targets I recovered was an iPhone.  Hoping that I could wake it up enough to get some clues as to the owner, I rinsed it in fresh water when I returned home, dried it, and tried to turn it on, but it seemed to be dead.

My next step was to stow it in a sealed plastic bag with dessicant for 2 days and then try charging it.  This did bring it to life long enough to show a screen shot of a pair of cute children and a date & time: Sunday, August 9, 8:40.  I snapped a picture of the screen and posted it in ‘Fabulous Falmouth’ on Facebook.  Results were almost instantaneous!  A message from Angela identified the phone as belonging to her husband Chad, and several other comments provided confirmation.

This morning I dropped the phone off at Angela and Chad’s home.  They explained that they were shuttling items back and forth between their boat and the beach, and Chad’s phone, which had been sitting on a cooler, at some point took the plunge, not to be noticed until later.  Hopefully the phone will recover from its aquatic excursion, or at least its data will be recoverable.  And, I got to meet a very nice family!

P.S.  Learned later today that they actually got the phone working.  Amazing!

I received a call from Dylan asking if I was available to help locate a very sentimental gold ear ring lost during a car accident along the Florida Turnpike near the Ocala Florida area. Dylan’s girlfriend had been given these special ear rings years ago and was desperate to find the missing ear ring. During the accident the air bags went off and the trauma somehow caused her to lose one of them. My first attempt was to search the entire area where the car came to a stop in the grassy center median. And as you know these areas are just covered with all sorts of metal objects…so it took a few hours to check every signal that was shallow and that rang up in the general gold numbers. My search came up unsuccessful so I determined I really needed to search the vehicle next but it had been towed to a local insurance auto auction lot and was not available for me to search without the proper permission. So I assured Dylan that I would conduct a search of the vehicle when I had opportunity and when the paper work was complete. Fast forward 50 days…I received another lost ring search only minutes away from where Dylan’s car was being held and I made plans to stop by and do a thorough search of the wrecked car. And it was a good thing because the car was in the process of being sent to auction only days later. A quick search of the cars interior and the lost gold ear ring was found…way under the drivers seat. Dylan and his girl friend were just thrilled to hear the good news and drove a couple of hours to retrieve her precious lost gold ear ring that held such sentimental value! And what a thrill it was to hand it over to her and see the joy and relief on her face. God truly is good in allowing me to be a blessing and encouragement to this dear young couple.

I received a call from Kim & Daniela. They explained that they had spent the day at Pearl beach in Cape May Point. At some point during their visit, Danielas gold wedding ring went missing. She wasn’t sure when it was lost during their visit, but she was confident that it was at the beach as she was sure it was on her finger when they arrived earlier in the day and noticed it was gone just after leaving the beach. Daniela was concerned that it may be in the water as she had spent some time swimming as well. I met Kim & Daniela on the beach and we identified the areas they had been while visiting. I began grid searching the area where they had been sitting on the beach first. I made a few passes over the area and found Danielas ring a few inches beneath the dry sand. Tears of joy & relief were flowing! Daniela truly thought it was “gone forever” Another happy ending, another successful recovery!

I received a call from Sigmund. Sigmund explained that he was enjoying the day on the beach with his wife and friends here in Avalon, New Jersey. Shortly after leaving, he realized that his wedding ring was no longer on his hand. The group returned to the beach and began searching where they had been sitting only to end up empty handed. After a brief discussion I rode up and met the couple on 30th street beach. After meeting, we began walking down and Sigmund informed me that his 12th wedding anniversary was on this upcoming Monday, so the couple was a little “extra” eager to find the ring. Once we arrived on the beach, I began checking the area the group identified. After two passes I had Sigmund’s MASSIVE gold ring in my scoop. Another happy ending, another happy couple!

I Should Have…Wedding Band Lost, Found and Returned; on Cape Cod, Hyannis, MA

An early morning text led me to a rushed and very educational return. First for the rush: I had arrangements to play chauffeur for my daughter’s morning meetings. That was the easy part, one phone call and the time change was made. Next was parking and getting into the town park before 9AM. No street parking, I tried a private condo and could not obtain permission. So I went back to the locked gate to the park and what luck, a worker had just unlocked the gate and I was in. But could I get out let alone without a ticket. The employee said I was on my own and good luck. I parked and put signs on the car asking not to be ticketed or towed. I thought it was to be a fast search, find and return.

Shayan and Lauren met me explained what happened and I started my search where Shayan had put his shoes back on after about 40 minutes on the beach. A quick search of the beginning of the path and the path to the beach I found nothing. Next a line from the path to the area were the two sat for a half an hour or so before heading back to the parking lot. It was a narrow search, but I thought the sitting area would be the area the ring was lost at.

At the sitting area I gridded east and west then north and south, and then enlarged the area both along the beach and the distance from the high tide line. Still nothing. It was time to widen the width of the walk area from the beach to the beginning of the path from beach to parking lot. Still nothing. Another detectorist showed up to enjoy his hobby in the water but he did join in on the dry sand search and yet another fruitless effort.

Back to the path from the beach to the parking lot, still nothing. I was about ready to end the search and get on with my other commitments after one last swing over the area were Shayan thought he lost the ring nope, not a signal. I had given up but my last swing was over the paved parking lot that did not have a half an inch of sand on it, most of which Shayan may have spread out when he was searching with a kitchen ladled the previous night while looking for the ring. Well I should have checked that area more thoroughly when I first arrived, but I listened to my instinct and headed to where the most time was spent. Shayan was correct he had lost the ring while putting on his shoes, and I had not covered all the area. I just could not believe the ring was there but when I looked down I could see the ring of sand just barely covering the ring. Search was over and I felt bad about not finding it previously. Here is where the saying “If you miss it by an inch or a mile, you still missed it. At the end it made no difference and the lost item was found and returned. Shayan and Lauren left after a long embrace and with smiles on their face. As for me…no ticket and a Thank You form the gate attendants as I left.

Lost Three Silver Rings at Four Seasons Beach Ko Olina Resort…FOUND!!!

This ring find began last night when I got a call from Jaelyn who informed me that one of their guests at Four Seasons had lost three silver rings on the beach in the dry sand area of the beach chairs.  I told Jaelyn to give the guest my contact number and I would coordinate a recovery for them.  The guest, Stella, reached out to me the next morning and I agreed to come over just before noon to search.  My fear was someone probably would spot them earlier in the morning.  When I arrived I met Stella and she explained to me that she had the three rings in her short pockets and Grandma had shaken the sand off them not knowing the rings were there.  They tried searching and none could be found.  Stella thought they would be behind the chairs but the area was sterile of targets.  When I came around to the front of the chairs I got a multi target high tone hit.  First scoop pulled up the back right ring.  As I looked down the back left ring got exposed by the scoop push.  Now one more and sure enough nice high tone and one last scoop got the third ring.  Vacation saved and Stella was obviously relieved to have all three rings back on her fingers.  Aloha to Stella and her Family!

Metal Detecting Recovery of a Sapphire Engagement Ring at Black Beach, Falmouth Massachusetts

Overcast today, misty, occasional light rain, a bit windy.  Not a good beach day, but as it turned out it was a good day to find a lost ring.

Colin called me about 4 PM.  His wife had been searching online, trying to find a way to recover a ring that was lost two days ago, and she came across my name as a local Ring Finder.  Colin explained that their vacation was coming to an end and that they were leaving in 2 days.  Would it be possible for me to search for the ring before they left?  The ring was lost in dry sand, so there was no need for me to worry about the time of loss and related tide levels.  I told Colin I could be there right away to do a search.

I learned the story of the ring when I arrived 15 minutes later.  The ring was a very nice sapphire engagement ring that had belonged to Colin’s mother and it had been passed on to Colin’s wife Mel.  Mel had taken the ring off and put it in her pocket for safe keeping at the beach, but when their baby decided to let go a flood mommy’s shorts, the shorts and pocketed ring came off for storage in a beach bag.  Much later, back at the house, there was no ring to be found.  A frantic search of clothing, beach bag, etc. turned up nothing.

So, it appeared that the ring probably was still at the beach, somewhere in the area where they’d been active over a period of several hours.  I queried Colin about the most likely location within that area, and he and some friends cleared out beach chairs and umbrellas that were set up there while I began my search.  It took only a few swaths through the prime area together with recovery of a few promising but false targets (beer bottle caps) before a nice sweet signal proved to be the ring.  I left the ring in my scoop after shaking out the sand and walked over to Colin.  His expression of disbelief and mile-wide smile when he looked inside the scoop were the kind of reward I treasure most of all whenever I make a recovery.

Colin, his friends, and I subsequently had a great discussion about metal detecting finds and returns.  This little adventure really brightened up a gloomy day for everyone involved!

Lost White Gold and Diamond Engagement Ring at Ulua Lagoon Ko Olina Resort—FOUND!!!

This ring find began when I got a call from Dean who said his daughter Talia,  lost her White Gold Engagement Ring in Lagoon 4 in about waist deep water and they couldn’t find it.  He also told me she was getting married on Saturday!  I’d just gotten home from work but realized I had to find this ring.  I told Dean I’d pack up my gear and head right over.  Google Maps said 41 minutes and he said they would wait for me there. When I arrived Dean took me down to the shoreline and explained where the ring had fallen off Talia’s finger.  I started a few feet to the right and entered the water.  As I got to waist deep water I got a nice center dot #13 on the Manticore’s VDI and in one scoop there was Talia’s gorgeous ring sparkling in the scoop.  I yelled toward Dean on the shore, “I found it!”  Talia came down to the shoreline and I handed her the stunning ring.  She was so thankful and told me how distraught she was when it was lost.  The Wedding is now back on track.  Aloha to Talia and have a wonderful Wedding!
