As I was leaving the cache search yesterday, I received a call from Patti’s husband asking if I could help find his wife’s ring that she had had for more than 30 years. She had been doing yardwork, and when she was done, she was in the house washing her hands and noticed her ring was gone. They went back out looking for the ring brushing the leaves around looking, but were not able to find it. I told him that I was only about 15 minutes away, and had all my equipment ready to search, so he sent me the address, and I was on my way over.

When I got to the house Patti met me, and explained what she believed might have happened. She then showed me the yard which was completely covered in small golden brown leaves making it very difficult to spot a yellow gold ring even if were sitting right on the surface. There was a pile of leaves that were destined for the trash that I checked first not finding the ring. I then went with Patti to the yard, and began a search, got one signal that turned out to be too deep. I continued, and received a strong double beep signal, looked down, and could see a faint outline of gold peeking through the leaves. I reached down and showed Patti. She and her husband were so very happy, she wanted to give me a hug, which of course I never refuse.:-) That really topped the day, 40 silver 1 oz. coins, and a beautiful ruby and diamond ring, and some really happy people. Awesome!

Patti sent the following testimonial:

After working all afternoon in our yard, cleaning out leaves from the planting beds, I was horrified to look at my hands and realize that my wedding ring was no longer on my finger. What can you say about a ring that’s been there for 34 yrs and daily reminds you of all those shared years? I was stunned. We looked for it unsuccessfully and then we found Steve’s website. He arrived at our house in about 15 minutes and found my ring in less than 10. Wow. I couldn’t stop smiling for 24 hours. The whole drama transpired within an hour … from lost to found. I don’t know which chapter was more astonishing … losing the ring or Steve’s quick recovery. I hugged him (asked permission first!) – he was so gracious, knew exactly what he was doing, and in a short period of time left 2 VERY grateful people. He’s the real deal – a ring finder and a gentleman!

Silver Coin Cache Buried and Lost in Glendale, CA Backyard…Found and Returned

Don contacted me last week to see if I would help him find some coins, and some other items his daughter had buried in a backyard a couple of years ago. She remembered burying 3 tubes of 1 oz. silver coins, and had a good idea where they might be, we worked out a time to meet according to our schedules.

I arrived at the property, and met Don and his daughter Katie, and they showed me where to look. I began looking for the other items first, but was unable to find them even thought the ground had been dug out pretty deep, so Katie showed me the area she believed the silver coins had been buried. I searched the area, and then received a great signal, dug, and out popped a plastic tube wrapped in plastic. It was heavy, so I knew I had found one of the coin caches. It turned out to be a tube of 20 1 oz. silver coins. I gave it to Don and Katie, and they were very excited that I was able to find it. I continued searching that area, but was unable to find the other two tubes of coins, and it was getting late, so we called it a day. I told them I would like to come back to complete the search.

I was able to get over to the property yesterday and do some more searching. Don had remembered another area he thought the coins might have been buried which was not near the previous area, so I began a search there. There was an old galvanized pipe that was on top of the ground which was hindering my search of the spot, but I was getting an alternative signal right near the pipe, so I dug there. It wasn’t too deep, and I plucked out 2 tubes of 20 1 oz. silver coins which I was able to give to Don and Katie; again two very excited people.

After two successful searches, 60 1 oz. silver coins in total, I let Don know that I would return for the search of the other items again because I really believe they are there to be found. So this is an unfinished blog I hope, and will later be able to post some more great news.

Smart watch lost in Tawa, Wellington, New Zealand

  • from Wellington (New Zealand)

Branden had been cutting down trees and doing a bit of landscaping when he noticed his smart watch was missing.

When I arrived he showed me a large hole he had filled with compostable material and dirt and rocks.  Unfortunately it was up against a concrete wall that had metal reinforcing and so we had to dig it out by hand to avoid hitting the watch with any sharp tools.

It was amazing how hot the combustible material had got in just three days.  I scanned everything with a handheld pinpointer but when we got to the bottom of the hole there was no sign of the watch.

Next there was a raised garden that he had filled with pebbles.  I took a reading off an identical watch that belonged to his wife and used my CTX3030.

Still no target and it was looking grim but I carried on around the edge of the ground where I saw some old pebbles had been dumped.  Right next to a tree stump I got a dirty signal that was similar to the other watch.  Scraping away a layer of pebbles the plastic strap emerged and the watch was recovered.

When I checked the hole there was a 4” nail right underneath where the watch had been.

Branden was very grateful to get his watch back.

Lost Gold & Diamonds Wedding Band at Aulani Ko Olina Resort Lagoon…FOUND!!!

  • from O‘ahu (Hawaii, United States)

This ring find began when I got a call from Tanya who was on vacation with her family from Fresno, California. While her husband John was playing catch with a football in the lagoon at some point his Gold & Diamonds Wedding Band came off. He wasn’t positive it was in the lagoon as he only recognized it missing when they got back to their lounge chairs…but that would be the most logical place. The tide was high and it was late evening so we decided to meet at the lagoon the next morning at low tide. John & Tanya met me and John showed me the area he was sure he was in when they were playing with the football. I told John to go have a breakfast and be sure his phone was on in case i got good news. On the second leg of the grid BOOM on the Equinox. After two scoops there was a gold & diamonds ring in the scoop. But wait, that’s not his ring it doesn’t have the distinctive curve that was in the picture he sent me the night before. On with the grid search. Then when I was exactly in the middle of the grid box and at about the deepest walking depth I got another BOOM on the Nox. One scoop this time and there was John’s amazing ring in my scoop. I called them with the good news and we met on the beach again for the return. Hugs and grateful thanks from the entire Family. Warm way to start the 2020 New Year. Aloha to John & Tanya!

Ring Lost In Bradenton, Recovered By SRARC

Carl was washing the dog in his driveway in Bradenton. As he scrubbed, his hand flew up and his ring went flying out into the yard. This was his step fathers wedding ring given to him by Carl’s mother. It had been handed down to Carl after his mother had passed. Carl was very close to his step father who came into the family with a very interesting past. The family was living in Germany during Hitler’s rise and Carl’s step father and one brother were able to escape to the USA but lost all other family members in Auschwitz. He joined the US armed forces and ended up in the 101 Airborne Division. He fought at the Battle of the Bulge and also the capture of Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest. Carl held this ring with great respect and was heartbroken over it’s loss. Carl goggled the internet and found SRARC ring finders and was shortly connected with Howard Mett’s. Howard called for a hunt and Mike Miller responded. Mike met Carl at the site and Carl described where he thought the ring had landed. After going over the area several times with no luck we were loosing hope. Mike started checking the flower beds that were close to the area but nothing popped out. They started ripping the shrubs out so more of the ground could be covered and as the last of the bushes came Mike got a good hit. Carl was overjoyed as Mike help the ring up. Needless to say, Carl was grinning from ear to ear. SRARC is proud to return something so important to Carl but also to help keep the memory alive of one of our brave military veterans.

Ring Lost On Siesta Key, Recovered By SRARC

Harma stepped out of her back door on Siesta Key to call her dog back inside. As dogs sometime do, it refused to come in so she went out to wave it in. She waved her hand toward the door and off flew a very precious ring into the night. Harma and her husband both searched the yard but had no luck at all. She remembered that her friend and neighbor Leslie had recently lost a ring and it was recovered by a local group called the SRARC ring finders. She contacted Howard Metts and Mike Miller responded to the callout. Mike searched for about an hour and was loosing hope but decided to change coils and research the area. In short order he got a promising hit and sure enough out came the ring. This was not just any ring, it was her grandfathers wedding band which had been passed down to her and she was just heart broken that she had lost it. If you look closely you will see the wedding date of in Holland of 14/8/15. SRARC is ever so happy to have returned this precious heirloom to Harma.

Ring Lost In Bradenton, Recovered By SRARC

Diane is down for a few months to her winter home in Bradenton from Rochester, New York. She was digging a new flower bed in her back yard and when she finished she discovered an important ring was missing from her finger. The ring had been her mothers who had passed when Diane was only four year old. She had been wearing it her whole life and was just devastated when it went missing. She called her sister who came over and helped her look but they just could not find it. Later that evening while searching for a place to rent a metal detector she found the SRARC ring finders. She contacted Joe Szemer and he lined up Mike Miller to go hunt the 2’ by 5’ patch where the ring was thought to have been lost. Mike arrived the next morning and the ring was quickly found and returned. It is always a great feeling to return a precious item like this and share the joy and appreciation with the person who is so grateful to have it back again. Congratulations Diane!!!!!!!!!
