Truro, MA Lost Car Key, Found, and Returned

August 30, 2023: Luke Berube was overloaded with work and called me to help him out by taking on a search/recovery of a lost car key. As RingFinders do, I answered the call setup a time for a search. Also as usual my detecting partner, Leighton Harrington, was contacted to go on the search as two detectors can make for a faster and more complete search for a lost object. His company also makes for a more enjoyable ride to and from the detecting site. The weather forecast for rain and wind did not deter our effort.

It seams Cal had a great time on the beach and his enthusiasm did not stop until he reached his car at the end of the day. He was lucky enough to have a spare key but his mother was adamant about finding the key that was lost somewhere between the beach and car, more than likely in the sandy path going over the dune.

Several family and friends searched for the key even using a rake over the entire path. The key was not found. What was found was a link to TheRingFinders.com and a call was made. Now two days after the loss, the detecting search was on. The path was nice clean, soft sand, a pleasure to walk on and dig in. After two trash targets I had a large signal and it was deep according to my detector’s ID screen. After four scoops, I was about to give up but instead I took another slow sweep and then a pinpoint reading. With that information I placed my scoop and stood on it to get to a depth of 8 inches. Lifting the scoop in a sweeping arc, I saw a little blue flash. It was the quick disconnect and attached to it was the missing key.

It was difficult to comprehend how the key got so deep in the sand. Best theory is that the foot traffic, raking action, along with blowing sand over the past two days caused the key to be so deep in the sand.

It was a pleasure meeting Cal’s father and relating a few stories. Cal was at the terminal waiting on the arrival of his girl friend. As we ended up with thanks and good-byes a drizzle started to fall and then the rain came. Perfect timing to a perfect return.

Lost Ring in Chestnut Hill – Philadelphia…Found!

I reached out to Rick after losing my ring at a 4th of July party, back in my hometown of Philadelphia.  He was scheduled to come out the next day, yet the weather did not cooperate.  Since I no longer live in the Philly area, I unfortunately had to wait until Labor for a redo.  Rick came out to the spot on the property where I knew I lost my ring, and in 30 seconds the ring was found.  Thank you again for communicating with me and for locating my ring – very happy!

Lost ring throwing football, Orange Beach – FOUND!

The other day I got a late message from Randi asking for help over in Orange Beach. Her husband Brayden was throwing a ball out in the Gulf and when the ball hit his left hand he watched as his wedding band dropped into the Gulf. They enlisted the help of some friends to look for an hour but didn’t have any success. When I spoke to Randi on the phone I told her that was my specialty and I’d be glad to help. That afternoon I drove over to Orange Beach and realized that it was at Romar House. They are wonderful people there and sure enough when I went inside they remembered me helping some other guests and immediately gave me a temporary parking pass. When I came back out I met Brayden and he quickly filled me in and explained that he had only been married since October. I told him that we had to find his ring and it was so new it was still shiny. 😃 When we got to the beach, Randi and several of their friends were lined up in their chairs ready to watch “the show”. I waded out with Brayden and one of his buddies waved us a bit more East. I took about 4 more steps to the East and then based on the tide charts, I took three more steps to the South and yelled over to Brayden not to move so I had a reference point. I literally went about 5 feet and heard a great tone. I got it on the first scoop and yelled over to Brayden, “It’s that easy” with a big smile. I didn’t realize that Randi was videoing but it definitely shows the excitement better than I can explain it. Thanks Brayden and Randi for trusting me. Now you have an awesome story for the rest of your long and happy marriage.

Lost White Gold and Diamonds Engagement & Wedding Bands at Ulua Lagoon Ko Olina Resort…FOUND!!!

This ring find began when I got a call from Daveta who was very stressed out that she just lost her White Gold & Diamonds Wedding & Engagement Rings in Ulua Lagoon at Ko Olina Resort.  Daveta and her family were visiting from New York City and enjoying some time at the resort.  While coming ashore a wave slammed into Daveta, knocked her down and both her rings came off in shallow water along the shoreline.  Several beachgoers tried to assist with the find but it was hopeless in the soft sand.  Daveta told one of the Aloha Security Mobile Patrols and they told her, “We got a guy named Joe that can help you and we’ll get you his number.”  I told Daveta traffic was backed up but as soon as it eased up a bit I’d head over and do a hunt before the sun went down.  The normal 40 minute drive took over an hour and a half but I still had plenty of daylight left.  I took the pictures Daveta sent me and lined up the grid markers.  I started on the North Side and worked South.  On the third leg of the grid I got an awesome tone with two targets and I knew I was on the spot.  In one scoop, both of Daveta’s gorgeous rings were glistening in the scoop.  I went to my car and texted Daveta the good news.  As you can see in the pic Daveta came over to my home for the return.  Vacation saved!  Aloha to Daveta and her wonderful family!

Lost Tungsten Wedding Band at Aulani Lagoon Ko Olina Resort…FOUND!!!

This ring hunt began when I got a text from Deana stating her husband Roland lost his Dark Tungsten Wedding Band in Aulani Lagoon and it was engraved with a date.  They were visiting and on vacation from Arizona.  Roland had just entered the water and as he was standing in neck deep water his ring fell off and disappeared.  They tried searching but it was fruitless in the stirred up lagoon with very little visibility.  Since it happened at a high tide I told Deana I would come during the morning low tide in hopes I wouldn’t have to use scuba.  When I arrived the next morning Roland & Deana met me on the beach with their two daughters.  Roland helped me draw some grid lines in the sand and I started the search.  I went out to the deepest part as the tide was coming in and I wanted to get the most depth.  No joy there!  I started the perpendicular to shore search and after about 40 minutes completing the grid with no luck I asked Roland if I should expand the grid which direction should I go?  He said try left.  On the second leg of the expanded grid I got a nice loud tone on the Nox and in one scoop there was the dark tungsten ring in the scoop.  I yelled to the beach chairs, ‘I found it!”  Roland & Deana came running down to the water and were both overfilled with joy that the recovery was successful.  Deana told me it was her birthday and that was the greatest gift ever.  Aloha to Roland & Deana who can now relax and enjoy the rest of their vacation.

Lost Wedding Band Recovered & Returned at White Lake NC

On Saturday 8/26/2023 I was out swimming and diving with my metal detector at the lake when I met a nice family who saw me metal detecting in the water. They explained that a couple weeks earlier that their son had lost a ring on the other side of the lake in the water behind a private rental they had been staying at. I offered my help in recovering the ring and that I was a member of the ring finders group online and that we always love helping people. I also explained my front plate had my number and theringfinders information on my truck in the parking lot.  We parted ways and I continued metal detecting some and when I was heading back to the truck I met her again and showed her to my truck. She took a photo of my info on my plate and we spoke a few minutes more.

The next day I received a call from her son who explained everything and sent me photos of where he was in the water. I agreed to do the search and I called the property Manager to obtain permission to be there. Permission was granted and I went down the very next morning 8/28/2023 to look for the ring. I was in the water about two hours when I found his ring. I sent him photos to confirm I found it and called him. The next day on Tuesday 8/29/2023 we met and the ring was returned. I was happy I could help and he was extremely happy about getting it back.  It’s always a pleasure helping people.

*** Deana and the ladies in her family had a beach outing at Newport Beach. Some time during their stay, her gold necklace with a gold pendant broke. Sometime before she could put the necklace in a safe place, Deana dropped the necklace in the sand. She must have been distracted and didn’t realize the chain was missing for an hour or more.

The chain with the pendant attached had to be in the area the ladies were sitting. It was probably a 40ft. square area. Their attempts to find it were futile. One of the women called me, asking for help. They were running late and had to return home soon. I assured them we could find the lost piece of jewelry in a short time if they stayed at the area of the loss. 

I arrived shortly after the call and began the grid search. Success didn’t come as quick as some beach recoveries but the necklace with the pendant showed up at the edge of the search zone. Everybody was amazed that such a small item eluded them and how efficient the metal detector was. They had been packing up as I searched, so we got them on the road in less than 20 minutes

Lost and found gold wedding band at Oak Lake in Ontario

My travels today took me to beautiful Oak lake near Havelock Ontario. Received a text from Sabrina and Carm about having lost a gold wedding band at the end of a dock, in the water. As Carm was standing in the water at the end of the dock, he removed his gold wedding band to secure it onto his chain because it was loose on his finger. Unfortunately, as he did so, the ring fell in the water. After an hour’s search, while using my hooka system and underwater metal detector, the ring was found. Another great happy ending for the newlyweds and a beautiful day to be in the water.

Lost Rings in the Gulf, Orange Beach- FOUND!!!

I owe Matt and Elise an apology for taking so long to post their story but I wanted to make sure that I did them in the right order because Elise’s rings ended up being the 99th and 100th official return since I started doing this. I love thinking back on all of the people I have been able to help. Matt and Elise are the perfect ones for lucky #100 because not only do they have a great story but they are wonderful people!  They have been married for 15 years and were down in Orange Beach with some friends and their family for some well deserved vacation. Elise had gone out in the Gulf with her youngest son William to throw the football when all of a sudden both of Elise’s rings came flying off with the ball. This was the first day of their vacation and it had taken an immediate turn for the worse. Elise noted where she was and came up to the beach and she and Matt immediately began looking online for someone who could help. Luckily, Matt called me and I was eager to help. I made the hour drive and brought my wife Jeannie. She has been my lucky charm and I thought it only right that she be there for the potential 100th return. When we got there Matt and Elise pointed out where they were and I quickly realized that the knee deep water was out where the sand bar drops back off into the Gulf. Nevertheless, I set a bearing on a distant condo and began my grid search. Meanwhile Jeannie talked to Matt and Elise and tried to calm their fears. She learned that they had a true love story. Matt is a farmer and back years ago he saved his money and went and bought these rings for Elise and got down on one knee. Now it had been so long that Matt didn’t even remember what the rings were made out of. I think that is a perfect example of the kind of irreplaceable things I get to find. It doesn’t matter what they are made out of or the monetary value. It’s the memories and the sentiment that make them absolutely invaluable. Meanwhile, back in the Gulf, I had my machine turned wide open so I could hear everything and I was on a mission. An hour later though, I only had one dime to show for it and everyone was getting worried. A man waded out to talk to me and explained that he was going to try and find it with his feet. I tried to be nice and explain that he was kind of hurting the situation and not helping but he was not to be deterred so I went around him. After expanding the area a bit I had Elise go over again where she thought it might be. I told her that there was no way it had rolled up the bar but if she had flung it far enough it might be a little shallower. The man had finally left after a fruitless search so I started there and proceeded to work shallower. Finally, out of nowhere, I hear the screaming sound of gold in my ears. In a millisecond, I knew that not only were these the rings, but they were together, right on top and they were almost certainly gold. I very gently scooped down deep to make sure I didn’t scratch one and pulled out both rings in one scoop, together like they were meant to be. Y’all, I can’t even explain the excitement and the disbelief and happiness that proceeded to radiate from that beach when I walked out. I hope the next 100 are every bit as meaningful!  By the way, the rings are 18k and diamonds, just as awesome as the people they belong to. Men’s Wedding Ring Lost & Found, Bristol Beach, Falmouth, MA

Laura found The Ring Finders online and called me for assistance.  Her husband Paul had given her his wedding ring to hold when he went for a swim (a wise decision), but unfortunately the ring somehow slipped into the dry sand in the area where they were enjoying the beach.  They tried searching for the ring by hand but turned up nothing.  That’s not surprising since a ring can quickly and easily disappear when it hits the sand.  I told Laura that it should not be a problem to locate the ring with a detector and that I’d be there within a half hour.  When I arrived, Laura flagged me down and told me that they’d just found the ring!  Paul had scored an unusual success with continued hand sifting.  I think that Paul should be an honorary Ring Finder — and he doesn’t even need a detector!  Though it turned out that my services were not needed, we had a nice conversation and I was very happy to see that the ring was found and back on Paul’s finger where it belonged.  Laura and Paul, congratulations on a successful ‘return’ and I hope you enjoy the rest of the summer!
