Justin and I looked for his lost ring in the Spokane river today and he found so I’m going to let him tell the story.

Justin wrote: so i have to plug this guyI lost my wedding band floating the Spokane river yesterday. I find Luke as I’m searching Google for options at 7am this morning. I call him right away because of course I can’t wait to find my ring. Luke answers my call at the butt crack of dawn on a Sunday morning and says he’ll meet me at the mishap location at 9am. I take him to the vicinity (in the middle of the river) of where I lost it. About an hour and a half into the search we found it!!! Luke is a super good guy and fair about pricing. He understands the more important sentimental aspect of the lost item. If you ever lose a piece of jewelry, or some other precious metal item, Luke is absolutely the guy you want to call! Thanks Luke!!

Lost Ring Orange Beach – FOUND! 2 Day Search!

Well, this was a tough one but it turned out great!  Crystal and her family were staying in Orange Beach, AL while they watched her daughter’s team compete in the World Series of Softball. Two days ago they were enjoying a much needed break cooling off in the Gulf of Mexico right before the sun went down. Crystal was standing in waist deep water trying to catch one of the bouncing water balls when tragedy struck. As the ball hit her left hand, both she and her husband saw her engagement ring fly off her hand and into the water. They looked and looked and raked their hands through the sand with goggles and masks and all of the volunteers they could get but they were unlucky and couldn’t find it. A very distraught Crystal did get a bit of luck later however when she found me on TheRingFinders and sent me an email. So yesterday after getting what I consider to be very thorough starting point directions, I began my search in the Gulf. I spent hours and ended up gridding out a really large area and I dug everything from fishing lures to a cell phone deep in the sand. I just couldn’t find it. I was bummed out and beat up from all the digging and I made the call to a very sad Crystal. Well I will say that the occasional one I can’t recover absolutely haunts me and I lay there when I got home last night thinking about anything that I could have done differently. After checking the tide graphs again, I decided that I would try even deeper and use a different mode on my machine. My wife gave me the okay this morning and even offered to come along. I started out neck deep and after only 2 passes I heard a strong signal. I switched the machine over so that I could hear what it was made out of and instantly heard that awesome gold tone. After a couple of gentle scoops, I had Crystal’s ring headed back to where it belongs. She was so sad yesterday, it was fun to hear her beside herself with happiness today. I’m very happy for you Crystal, thank you for giving me the chance to find your ring for you.

And so it happened …

A beautiful, relaxing summer afternoon at the beach turned into the loss of my Cartier trinity ring. I had ignored those two life lessons, gotten distracted and now I was in a frantic search for my precious wedding band that had disappeared in the sand. We retraced my steps, sifted through piles of sand, all to no avail.

Early the next morning, while combing the beach again, I met a fisherman who told me about Dave, “the metal detecting man.” He said he had great results. I contacted him and explained my tale of woe. Dave, who lives at least an hour from Long Beach Island, promised he would do his best, but it would take some time.

On a rainy Saturday morning, about 10 days after my misfortune, I got a call from Dave. He had recovered my ring. My precious ring is back on my finger again.

We need more Daves in this world. He took the time to help a stranger in need – a life lesson in itself. Dave exemplified how to live. And I’m not the only lucky one who has been helped. Dave has been doing this for many years and has a treasure chest full of heartwarming stories to share. In a time when headlines are dominated by self-interest, here is a story of selflessness. People like Dave should be highlighted and celebrated. Thank you, Dave, the metal detecting man.

Ring Lost in the Sand for 2 Weeks, Found and Returned North Myrtle Beach SC

Friday, July 27, I was out doing a little metal detecting, trying to find a lost ring in waist deep water at low tide, from a month ago. I started talking with Connor, who is a North Myrtle Beach Lifeguard and was overseeing a section of the Cherry Grove beach. During our conversation, he mentioned that his girlfriend, Sanibel, had lost her silver ring in the dry sand about 2 weeks ago. I had him show me the area and told him I’d see if I could find it.

I walked maybe 100 yards to the area and was planning on doing a grid search. On my first line, third target, I had Sanibel’s ring in the scoop. I slipped her ring on my little finger, walked back to Connor, and he asked, “Did you find it?” I held out my hand so he could see it on my finger. He was overjoyed and couldn’t believe it was found. He plans on surprising her with the ring.

Connor and Sanibel, so glad I could help out and get the ring back where it belongs.

Man’s 3ct Gold Wedding Band Lost in the Surf, Found and Returned Litchfield, SC

Damond called me at 10:30 p.m. telling me he lost his ring and wanted to know if I could help. He went on to say he was on his knees in the surf, and was playing with his 4 year old son when he felt his ring slip off his finger at about 7 p.m. He also said that he tried to grab it but it quickly sank out of sight, and he’d been out there searching for it. I got the location and told him I was on my way, and would be there in 45-50 minutes.

This was a gated resort so I had to wait until Damond showed up at the gate to get me in. I followed him down to the beach and got the details on the ring and the area he lost it in, which was a good 50 ft. by 50 ft. I first started a north/south grid line but with an outgoing tide I changed to an east/west and started in the middle of his suspected area.  One thing I’ve found pretty true to form is that most people go to the right when they enter the beach area, and this case was no different. I made about 5 or 6 passes and got a booming signal. One scoop and I had the target out of the hole. I spread the sand out with my foot, turned on my head lamp and saw the ring shining in the light. I was expecting a gold wedding band and when I picked up the ring it was “oh my God!!!” Damond was sitting on the beach access stairs when I called him down to the low tide line. I asked him to describe his ring, and then held it up and asked, “Does it look like this?” He couldn’t contain his excitement, and started doing the happy dance. I got a big bear hug. Awesome feeling!! After it was back on his finger, he told me that his wife had gotten it for him for father’s day and it had a lot of sentimental value, and I could see why. He also told me I saved the family vacation.

Electronic Car Key and House Keys Lost at Playa Del Rey Beach…Found and Returned.

I received a desperate call from David. He had gone to the beach for the day, and when he decided to go in the water, he buried his keys in the sand so no one could find them. The problem was that when he was ready to leave, he moved his towel, and then forgot where the keys had been buried. He called his father who found me on the Ring Finders site, and told his son to give me a call. I told him I would come right away.

When I arrived David and I found each other, and he took me to the spot where he had been during the day. He showed me where he had been, and I could see where he had been digging in the sand, so that is where I began my search. The keys were not in that area, so I began to expand the search. I was finding a few metal items such as bottle caps and foil, but not the key. I continued working back away from his original spot, and then all of a sudden a real nice signal in the headphones. I scooped, and there were his keys, about 15 feet from where he thought they were. I was glad to have been able to help him out.

Lost Dental Post Found In Detroit Michigan

The Tooth Fairy’s Outta Luck Today!

My most unusual request has to be this so far. The pictured gentleman was on his phone and when he sneezed his tooth came out. After talking with him he mentioned how much it would cost to have it replaced and was worried that someone may find it. I said even the tooth fairy couldn’t make the exchange on that and I for sure will give the tooth back should I find it cos’ it’s not something I ever wanted in my collection! That got him laughing and more at ease. I knew I would be looking for a mid range number cos’ of the metal composition and it was very small. Also the shape of it resembled an earring post. When I got on site it was full of gravel and after about 10 min of searching the detector signaled a solid +38 and after removing a large stone there the tooth was! He was super thrilled and couldn’t believe it could be found and now he can avoid the replacement.
So no matter what someone asks you to help them find, do your best to be the reason you made someone’s smile better!

The BIGGEST Diamond Ring I have ever found and the Hardest Hunt. 3 days in Tall grass

Received a call at about 7:00PM to look for a 18K diamond ring that was lost throwing a small stick. They knew exactly where in their back yard!! (In the grass) They were so emotional about it, and it sounded like a easy hunt, I went out immediately. I arrived before nightfall. A couple of things that I had not been told about. Grass was 3 to 4 feet tall, near a retention pond, and it included cattails!! Needless to say I did not find it.

I returned the next morning with a scythe (Yes I know how to use it! I’m OLD and cut grass with one along the highway for the county when I was a kid) a rake, and both my CTX and XPDeus detectors and all my coils. I cut some of the grass and started to search. After several hours of hard labor, I asked them to rent a industrial weedwacker. I cut more grass all the way to the retention pond and searched. 7 hours later…Nothing!

Returned the next day with Ron Shore another Ringfinder. I knew the ring was there and was very frustrated, but stubborn. We hunted for about 4 hours. Nothing. Both becoming frustrated. This seemed like an easy hunt. So I decided to start from scratch. I ran a gridline starting at the waters edge and worked my way back to where she had been standing. I checked out EVERY signal with my handheld pinpointer. Not 5 feet from where she was standing I found the ring. I marked the spot and told the woman that we decided to quit hunting since Ron and I were exhausted. I told her I had marked a spot that I had received a signal but I was too tired to look and would she check it out.. BINGO!!!!

Here is what was interesting and a lesson I learned. Ron was using the the AT Gold with a nell coil and I was using my CTX with my 17 Inch coil for coverage. Since I knew it was a very Large 18K ring ( Bigger than a mens College ring) I assumed the signal would BLAST us. NO way. The signal I got didn’t lock on and jumped around from 34 to 38 no solid red. Ron had the same issue. He said he would never have dug that signal. Perhaps the unique shape of the ring with different layers created the issue.

The lesson is to start at about 5 feet BEHIND the point of standing and grid Forward. Rings that are lost while throwing sticks generally are about 10 feet from the starting point. Rings are generally NOT where they think.

Use the proper tool for a given task was always the recommendation my father gave to me.

Joe would have had a better two weeks had his father-in-law had an extra clam rake for him to use. Not having a clam rake Joe used the next best item available, his hands to dig for clams. Little did he know that clams love gold rings. The clam that got away on that Sunday made away with Joe’s wedding band. Swimming masks and snorkels were not the proper “tools” to find a lost ring in the low viability of the bay.

A few days later was the start of a very confusing (for me) understanding of the lost ring’s family. Well that was my problem and did not have an affect on my search. What turned from a 30’ radius round a buoy to into a much larger area. So large I did not find the ring on my first 3 hour search. I then waited for better tide and sun combination. I hate getting sun burned. The second search I took a second detectorist. We covered the area were the ring “was” lost and increased the search area beyond the original 30’ circle and area to get from the beach to the buoy. Increasing the radius by about 20 feet did the trick. The ring was in my scoop. Oh the clam that I believe to be the culprit who took the ring in the first place had told me to go in the direction I did as I increased the search area. He and several of his friends who had been taunting be to break the law and take them home to be made into clam chowdah were put back into the bay’s bottom, left for Joe to put his new clam rake to a good use on.

The day after finding the ring all my confusion was put straight, five names, four people now I got it. I met with Joe, his wife, mother- and father-in-law. All were present at my house where the ring was returned, photos were taken, and a few good tales passed. A fun family, I am sure the ring will now have a long and happy life even with an invisible scare where it was made to loose a bit and tighten up on Joe’s finger. I thank all that made this return a wonderful memory.

Lost Gold Engagement Ring Recovered in Catonsville, Maryland!

I received a call from Richard yesterday about a ring his fiance lost in back of their apartment complex the day before. He said they were certain it was there somewhere, but they were unsuccessful locating it despite visually looking for it for hours. He was also concerned about it being washed away due to the very heavy rains the area seen the night it was lost.

Luckily we were able to meet up that late afternoon between rain showers. Richard directed me to the area he felt was the best location to start and I immediately got to work. After about 5-10 minutes, Richard let me know he’ d be right back an went around to the front of his apartment. During that time I found this under some fairly thick vegetation…..

Upon Richard’s return a few minutes later, I presented him with the ring!

Shortly thereafter, the rains started back up again. Luckily, the ring is back where it belongs and all is well!
