Gold and Diamond Wedding Band Lost in Snow, Found and Returned in Paoli, PA

Vijay found me via The Ring Finders Directory. He texted me looking for help in locating his lost gold and diamond wedding band. We spoke on the phone and he told me he was on an early morning walk around his neighborhood in Paoli, PA admiring the snow that was really coming down hard. He went to take a picture with his phone and while reaching for the phone he felt his ring fall off his finger straight down into the 8 or more inches of snow at his feet. At the time he didn’t have gloves on so he went home to get gloves so he could dig around and find the ring but by the time he got back…uh oh…the plow came through. I live about 15-20 minutes from Paoli so I was there within 30 minutes. First thing Vijay said to me was that next week is his 1 year wedding anniversary…and he made it clear the ring must be found! We met at the area where he dropped the ring, it was a parking lot of a school, and he showed me exactly where the ring was dropped. It was clear that the ring was definitely swept away by the plow and most likely was in one of the 3-4 foot mounds of snow near where the drop occurred. I had 2 detectors with me…One with a small coil and one with a larger coil. I started searching first with the larger coil but it was tough going and I couldn’t sweep the mound very effectively. I switched to the smaller coil and after each pass without a signal I took my shovel and dug the mound down by a foot or so. The detector depth is only a foot so I was assuming the ring was probably deeper toward bottom of the mound. After 20 minutes and on my 3rd pass I finally got a really good signal(a 22 on my Equinox 800). I called Vijay over and told him I’m liking this signal…we looked together as I dug down in snow. We were both elated to see his bright yellow gold band appear! I tell this to people all the time…being a Ringfinder is a lot “funner” when you are able to come through for the person! I’m so happy that Vijay can celebrate his 1 year anniversary next week with his beautiful band on his finger.

Tiffany posted a desperate plea on the Winslow Talk Facebook page, asking if someone could help find her husband’s wedding ring. He lost it in the snow yesterday while shoveling. There were two people who referred me to help: Brian, a friend of mine, and Nicole, who has used my service in the past (a one-minute successful search Click here to read that story)
I made arrangements to look for the wedding band after work. It is a thin yellow gold wedding band. They have only been married for 3 months. After Korey lost the ring, he stopped shoveling. So there are about 8 inches of snow on the ground. She did mention that he heard something hit the house when he threw some snow off of the shovel.
That was a great piece of information. I only had to search for about 5 minutes before I uncovered the bright and shiny yellow gold ring. It was within 3 inches of the foundation for the house. Tiffany was shocked that it was found, let alone so fast.

iPhone 11 Lost in the Snow. Recovered 3 Days Later

It was late Tuesday night when she left for home. Somewhere between the East Village Condo and the car parked out front a cell phone fell out of her coat. How did she know?  The “Find My Phone” app was signalling it was there. She had gone out looking for it but the heavy snow fall warning came true the next day and covered everything. In the hours between losing it and searching for it 10 cm of snow fell.  Move forward to Friday.  It was time to get a new phone but she was still getting a signal from her phone. In a last chance effort she found and called me. We talked for quite a while. In the end I made her a deal. Since I only lived 8 minutes away and since the phone was still active I would give it a try. If I did not find it, we would leave it as a good effort. No cost whatsoever.  I thoroughly enjoy the hunt and the possibility of succeeding so it isn’t done begrudgingly in any way.  I arrived and met her there. We looked at the app and it still indicated that the phone was somewhere near the front entrance.  The condo complex was 15 stories high and had a snow clearing service. There were mounds of snow all around the entrance where they had cleared the snow. I checked each pile. No luck. What I figured would be a short hunt because of the app, turned out to be longer than expected.  It seems that tall buildings and such make the location more of a suggestion as, even in the time we were there, the phone signal was moving about.  Eventually she thanked me and offered to etransfer me something. I told her “no”  as there is no need to add more on to the pain of losing her iPhone 11.  45 minutes into the hunt she was ready to call it quits. I asked her one more time, which door she left and where her car was parked. She recreated it to the best of her recall but it was fuzzy.  If she took a direct path to the street, she would cross somewhere between the first parked car and the edge of the driveway. I said, “If we don’t find it here, I am going to call it quits.”  I took my detector to it and I quickly got another signal. I used my foot and swept the snow away. There, face down, was her white iPhone. I looked up and she had this look of disbelief. “I can’t believe that you do this for people”.  Her smile sunk. “Its been out here for 3 days. Its probably wrecked”.  She bent down and picked it up. I was going to tell her to take it home and let it warm up slowly. Instead she pushed the home button. It started and lit up. She couldn’t believe it.

We found it, literally, in the last place I looked.  She left with a big smile and a promise she would tell everyone she knows about it. That made me smile.

Thrown Ring Went a Little Farther than Expected.

On a cold, snowy, wintry night, I was contacted about a ring lost in the back yard.  After chatting for a while it sounded like an easy find. The sound she said it made meant it was either on the deck or just on the other side of the railing.  I arrived and started searching. The deck was most likely but all I got was the same deck screw tone over and over. I moved to the other side of the deck rails. Deep snow and lots of it. Still no ring. I expanded the search area to cover the full yard. Still no ring. Under the deck with a pin pointer. Nope.  I had her test throw a key chain ring. She threw it into the dark. Neither of us saw it go.  A little later I found it on the other side of the deck rails.  I  was confused. The ring should have been there. I cleared a spot with no signals on the brick sidewalk and shovelled the deck snow onto it checking each pile each time. Still no luck (but she had clear deck).  I repeated that with all the snow near the deck rails just in case they were masking the signal.  Still no signal. I must have said it a dozen times.  “This doesn’t make sense. It should be here.”  Expand again. The side walk beside the garage ran along the fence. There was a 12 inch high and 3 inch thick strip of snow along the bottom of the fence. I ran my detector along it and got “the” signal I was looking for. I brushed the snow away and revealed a rim.  I called her over and revealed the rest. What appeared was an engagement ring with a rather large diamond on it.  The wave of relief and tears she shed were real.  What happened in the moment led to regret but eventually relief.  What I figured would be a short hunt lasted close to 2 1/2 hours.  We didn’t quit and thankfully so.

 

Thank you Evan for promptly coming to my rescue! Thank you for braving the cold for almost 3 hours to find my ring, and for being so patient. I have never experienced that many emotions simultaneously when you finally found it, but nothing else seemed to matter except the joy I felt at that moment.

Lost Hearing Aid at Gull Lake Saskatchewan In The Snow

I received a call from Hamid on Friday He lost his Hearing aid on trap line North of Gull Lake Saskatchewan. He had tried his Metal Detector’s and they wouldn’t find his other hearing aid. At a loss and looking at replacements that could cost up to $3000. He did some research finding the ring finders website and my number.

We decided that Sunday morning I would meet with him and go out on the the trapline. Before we left he had me check to see if the detectors I brought with me could find the hearing aid the Garrett AT Gold locate it ringing a solid 2, the Minelab X Terra 70 had weak signal.

I started the search from the location on the trail where he notice it missing. At this spot he had a tree branch brush the side of his head, and is the first time he noticed it missing. I started searching in wide grid pattern working from the left side of the trail to the right thought the tress and brush, moving in the direction he came from. There was a couple signals along the trail but they were a high VDI reading and about 6 inches in the ground I was looking for a shallow target. After sometime I got a solid signal of 2 about two feet next to the trail a inch deep in the snow aways down the trail.

Hamid couldn’t believe it when I bent down telling him it was his hearing aid and moving the snow away revealed the hearing aid. Its a great feeling being able to give back a lost item that some has lost being the smile on their faces!

Christmas in January! Dione contacted me on the night before Christmas Eve day with a story of a lost wedding ring. On the day before, she was driving on the entrance road to a strip shopping center while running some errands  when another car turned in front of her almost hitting her. After a brief confrontation with the other driver, Dione headed to her bank and then drove home. After arriving home, Dione realized that her wedding ring was missing so she and her husband Timm immediately retraced her steps including searching on the shopping center entrance road which had a grassy median. Dione had become convinced that her loosely fitting ring had flown off when she was having an animated discussion with the other driver. She  told me that she had also thoroughly searched her home to no avail. Despite their best efforts, Dione and Timm had failed to find the wedding ring.
I met Timm the next morning at the shopping center search location and became somewhat discouraged to see that there was very little grass on the roadside or in the median for the ring to hide and that this was a high traffic area. I searched for over an hour anyway under Timm’s direction and we quickly determined that either the ring was not lost here or was picked up by someone. I started talking to Timm about reaching out to the Sheriff’s Department as well as searching at home again when Timm said that it was possible that the ring could have fallen off Dione’s finger in their yard. I told Timm that I could search his yard as well so we traveled 15 minutes to the home. I was unable to recover the ring after a 30 minute search.
Before I left, I told Timm and Dione to continue their search in the home but try to enjoy their Christmas because they had several grandchildren visiting and we would reconnect after the holiday.
Later that evening I received a text from Timm with great news. Granddaughter Mila knew where the ring was because she had taken it from her grandmother’s makeup room. The best Christmas gift ever!

Lost ring at South Mission Beach found

Hailey was out on the beach one evening playing a game. When she was done, she realized the ring given to her by her boyfriend at Christmas was not on her finger anymore. Soft sand and a 30 X 40 foot area and there was no way she was going to find it without help. I got the call the next morning, grabbed my gear, and headed to meet her. On a public beach, you need to get on these things right away so someone else doesn’t find it first and not know who to return it to. On arrival, I noticed that some heavy equipment had gone through the area…..not a good sign. I looked down the beach and could see that equipment at work moving sand around. A skip loader and a rake machine. Okay, that’s better than a sifter, but, still the ring could have been scooped and dumped somewhere else, or, the rake could have drug the ring out of the search area. Not all of the search area had been disturbed, so, we were hopeful. After about 15-20 minutes of gridding, I got the sound I was “looking” for, and one scoop later, I had her ring. It was just a fraction outside the raked section of sand. Whew! I’m glad I could help you Hailey, and thank you for the reward.

Gold wedding band lost, recovered and returned in Manayunk, Philadelphia, PA!

I’m still laughing about it….Hopefully Taylor and Scott are too!

Taylor found me via the Ring Finders Directory after her husband, Scott, lost his large gold wedding band. They live in a row home in the Manayunk area of Philadelphia, PA. Apparently, Scott was horsing around with their dogs on the front porch when he felt(and heard) his ring slip off his finger and bounce into the front yard. Unfortunately, the sloping front yard is quite unruly with the presence of 2-foot deep ground Ivy vine. They had been searching for hours in the dark the night before and then again the next morning before they finally asked me to come with my detector. I showed up around lunchtime the next day(1/18/21). When I walked up to their front door I noticed the search area was going to be quite a challenge….it was quite overgrown and sweeping my detector was not going to be possible. Not to be deterred I made me way into the deep brush with the intent to poke in and out of the brush with my small search coil. I worked my way up through weeds to the top of the slope closest to porch and noticed that they had been hard at work cutting away and removing the first 2 feet of deep weeds. Scott and Taylor were on the porch looking down on me and talking me through the actions that lead to the loss.

Now keep in mind…I’ve been there 60 seconds and haven’t even turned on my detector…I look down in the middle of the small area that they had cleared that morning…and hey….that looks like a ring???? I bend down and ha!….it is a ring. A large, white gold wedding band. I pick it up and hold it out to Scott…who is clearly shocked? dumbfounded? amazed? embarrassed?

We laughed and laughed. Who knows how they could’ve missed it…I just told them how happy I was to be able to find for them. And then I told them it was their loss that they didn’t get to witness my mad detector skills!

Lost Diamond Ring Recovered in Fredericksburg After Rare Snow Event – Returned to Owner!

Mid-afternoon on Sunday I received a frantic call from Shawn that his wife had lost the Diamond Engagement Ring of her wedding set while throwing snowballs at him. Earlier that day Shawn and Jessica learned that it could possibly snow in Fredericksburg, Texas that afternoon. Predicted accumulation was only about 1” (it only snows here about once every six years). Nevertheless, they drove from San Antonio to Fredericksburg because growing up in Florida Jessica had never seen snow before. The snow event happened and before you know it Jessica was rolling snowballs and having a grand time throwing them at Shawn. Uh oh, Jessica looked down and her Diamond Engagement Ring was missing from her finger! She knew she had it when the snow started because she had a picture of it from the restaurant they had eaten at.

So, Shawn looks on the web for metal detectors and finds me under TheRingFinders.com and my Kerrville-Fredericksburg Rings Finders Facebook page. He contacts me and explains the situation. He was positive of the ¼ acre location area in the city park that the ring was lost in. I asked him to call the police department for permission for me to metal detect in the park. They agreed but only to look for the ring and no holes were to dug (historical area). I agreed to brave the 25 mile drive from Kerrville in winter conditions and the 32 degree temperature to try to locate Jessica’s ring. When I arrived at the park the snow had stopped falling and most had already melted into the ground. They showed me the area that they thought the ring should be in. I started to detect with my Garrett AT Pro and found there were a lot of targets to be checked. I detected the entire area for about 1 hour and did not find her ring. The cold had gotten to me and it would be dark soon so I called off the search. I told Jessica and Shawn that I would come back when it was warmer in a couple of days to search for it again.

On Wednesday, the temperature reached the 60’s in the afternoon. My wife, Kathy, and I drove over to Fredericksburg and I again started detecting the area in the park that Jessica had lost her ring in. After about 30 minutes of swinging the detector I got a tone that rang true. Looking down in the grass I could see the glint of a diamond ring. Holy cow, Jessica’s ring!                                                              

I called my wife over and we recovered it from the grass. I text Jessica the pictures of it. She was elated to say the least! We made arrangements to meet on Friday to return the ring to her. The smile on Jessica face when she had the ring back on her finger says it all!

Shawn and Jessica did everything right when they noticed her diamond ring was missing. They did a quick scan and realized they would need a metal detector to find it. More importantly, they realized they need an experienced operator of the metal detector. They searched on the web and found a member of TheRingFinders.com that serviced the area. This is how Jessica was able to put her Diamond Ring back on her finger where it belongs!
