Lost Heirloom Ring Found! -Wales, WI

  • from Menomonee Falls (Wisconsin, United States)

It was so much more than his father’s wedding ring. Greg Bell, resident of Wales, Wisconsin, had just received it from his mother a few days after his father died. She wanted him to have it. In addition, the ring had a single diamond that once graced his grandmother’s wedding ring. Now, barely a week after his father’s death, the precious heirloom was gone. Greg’s grief was compounded by the loss.

I received a phone call from Greg asking for assistance. With over four decades of metal-detecting experience, I’ve learned the value of forensics, of establishing an accurate timeline—a precise chronology of activities beginning with when the ring is known for certain to be on a client’s hand and ending the moment its disappearance became evident. My job is to focus on areas of highest probability, to work from the known to the unknown. So, with the help of his wife, Greg set about to review his timeline.

After spending time refining the timeline and following my suggestions for further searching, Greg contacted me again. Narrowing down the possible areas of loss, he established that there was a high probability he lost the ring while cutting his one-acre lawn. But an acre of grass can be formidable when searching for a postage-stamp-sized ring. It would be like searching for the proverbial needle in a haystack. Where to start? An engineer by trade, Greg had done his homework. The law of probabilities pointed to three areas where a small hand mower was used to trim more difficult sections near the house. These locations would be our starting point.

I quickly eliminated two of the sections using an XP Deus, wireless detector. Then, just as I was finishing up the third, a solid chirp in my headset invited closer examination. The numeric signal mirrored conductivity values consistent with gold. At first glance nothing was visible in the thick grass but when I parted the green blades a flash of gold betrayed the ring’s hiding place! And Greg’s smile tells the rest of the story!

Murphy’s Law, who is this Murphy? I’m in the ferry lineup to go see my grandson very early in the morning on Saturday when I get a phone call from a young lady who needs my help finding her lost rings that she lost at the beach the day before. Unfortunately, there is no way of turning back to help her so I told her that as soon as I get back Sunday evening I would go straight to the beach to search for her rings.

I know three days is a long time for people not to find the rings as there’s a lot of new detectorist’s out there now, that being said, it is a game of inches and I know the approximate area of the rings, so my chances are most likely better.

The young lady, Yoshi, told me that she couldn’t meet up that evening because she had to work, she sent me pictures and told me the exact location where she was sitting. I was totally fine with that as I know the beach pretty well.

When I arrived at the park I could not use their paid parking as it was closed, because of COVID-19. I drove further down the road and did find a spot and had to walk about 15 minutes to the beach. I figured it was a good thing because less people would’ve hunted that beach because of the inconvenience of parking.

I got to the beach just before dark went to the location she had sent pictures of and started my grade within minutes I found her two beautiful rings that were just inches in the sand, and lost for three days. I was so excited they were still there and more excited to send Yoshi a picture of her rings. We set up a time to meet the next morning.

Man’s Wedding Band Lost & Found on Private Dennis, Massachusetts Beach.

  • from Cape Cod (Massachusetts, United States)

With sun screen lotion applied and ready for a great game of Spikeball Thomas was ready to enjoy his vacation get away. Not only was he ready so was his ring. His ring had been waiting for two years for a short bit of freedom to frolic on a sandy beach for a day. A quick spike at a ball and then it took its chance.

Several hours of looking and hand sifting of the sand did not reveal the ring’s hiding place. A call to a Ring Finder … and I was on my way. Within 20 minutes I was talking to Thomas face to face. A short walk to the beach and Thomas was pointing out where the blanket was, where Spikeball was played, and the area where he had swam.

Low tide was now, so I started the search at the water’s edge and progressed up the beach’s slope. At the top of the slope was the area where Spike Ball was played and Thomas’s wedding band had made its escape. The dry sand was to be my second area to search. The entire beach had been cleaned with a beach rake and I could see not only my tracks of the tight search pattern I was holding but also Thomas’s footprints. As I passed my coil over Thomas’s footprint I head the signal that was unmistakably from a desirable target. Two scoops, a spread of the sand pile, and there was a “clunk clunk” from my scoop. I knew I had the item I was searching for, Thomas’ ring. To my surprise 5/12/18 was inscribed in side…my birthday May 12th.

I walked back to Thomas’s cottage and rinsed off my gear, and took a few notes after giving Thomas his ring. I had forgotten to pick up my camera and cell phone that were charging and my unfinished fresh cup of coffee when I left home. Thomas came to my aid and took the pictures needed for this story and offered a cup of coffee. Happy vacation days can now continue with smiles and a new vacation story to tell.

Ring lost at Mission Beach found

  • from La Jolla (California, United States)

Pete and his wife were escaping the heat inland and decided to go to south Mission Beach. Pete took his wedding ring off before going out in the surf, and gave it to his wife to hold. It was a bit big for her fingers, but, that’s where she held it. By the time Pete came back, his wife wasn’t feeling too good, and in their haste to pack up and leave, the ring came off and into the dry sand. After Pete did a Google search to get help, he came across one of my posts and texted me.  Being a Saturday afternoon, parking was going to be impossible, so, I had an early dinner and hoped the crowds would lighten up a bit so I could actually get to the beach.

I texted Pete back when I got to the beach and found he was already there waiting. He showed me the search area, and I started at what he thought was ground zero, and spiraled out from there. Naturally, since he had been there earlier in the day, the tide was at a different level, people had come and gone, so, figuring out exactly where they had been camped wasn’t a sure thing. After quite a bit of the supposed search area was covered, I was beginning to wonder if someone had already found it. I was finding a few other targets with similar target I.D.’s so I was still hopeful that it was still there somewhere. At the end of one of my passes, I was dodging around where some people were sitting and hit an area a bit out of the initial search area. It was an area where I was going to expand into next. I could see that people had been there recently by the disturbed sand. Sure enough, I got a nice solid 15 on my Equinox and found Pete’s ring. A happy Pete can now go home and make his wife feel a bit better. Nice to meet you Pete and thank you for the reward.

Apple Watch recovery in Glen Ross Ontario, while Scuva diving.

Received a call about a person having lost their Apple Watch while diving off an old train bridge into a local canal/waterway near Glen Ross, Ontario. With the help of Diving partner, we were able to return the watch to the owner. Very lucky as conditions were very difficult with tons of weeds and silt. Yet another happy customer.

Got a phone call to go look for a couple rings that a lady had lost a couple days ago while swimming at a camp ground near Bancroft. After 4 1/2 hours of swinging the coil, and drinking tons of water to beat off the heat, I found them both about 3 feet appart in knee deep water. One happy lady and now, they can relax and enjoy the rest of their family vacation 🙂. Big thanks goes to Steve Zazulyk for putting me onto this call. You know anyone who has lost jewelry, on land or in water (down to 100 feet, Scuba), send me a PM. I cover anywhere between Kingston, Bancroft and Cobourg (including Prince Edward County). Santa Monica, California .. Lost White Gold Wedding Ring in the Sand .. Found and Returned to Owner

  • from Newport Beach (California, United States)

Stan the Metal Detector Man is available to help you now .. call ASAP ..  949-500-2136

****Samantha and her husband took advantage of Santa Monica beaches being open after several months of being closed. They live close enough to walk to the beach. Sometime during their stay he lost his white gold wedding band.

After a frustrating search without finding the ring they returned home. Samantha did not give up.. She contacted me after finding my contact information on the internet. Hearing her story, I was convinced we had a very good chance to find the ring. Dry sand, lost four hours ago, and they knew the ring was missing before leaving the beach, perfect conditions to find a ring with a metal detector.

****Samantha’s husband had given up and thought she was wasting her time. She walked back to the beach to meet me as most the people were finishing their stay at the beach.

I set up my detector as she was beginning to show me the general area they had been sitting that morning. There was a lady and her family sitting on part of the location we were to search. As I started my grid the lady on the beach blanket asked Samantha, “ What are you looking for?” Samantha told her and to her surprise the lady held up the white gold wedding band. Saying she had found it earlier while randomly running her fingers through the sand.

Samantha was a very grateful lady. We discussed how lucky we were to come back to the scene of the loss before everyone left the beach. I’m sure if we put off searching for the ring ASAP. The person that found the ring would have been on the road  with no way possible to find the owner of the ring.

I like being the person that finds the lost item but the important thing is that the ring was found. This has happened several times before. It’s part of being a Ring Finder.

Delicate Gold Necklace found on Lake Champlain beach, Vermont

  • from Barre (Vermont, United States)
Contact:

7/11/20
Got a call this afternoon from a distressed woman on a beach on Lake Champlain. Two days ago she had lost a very special necklace. I told her I would get there just as fast as I could pack up my things.

When I arrived she explained that she was in Vermont on a temporary work assignment and had to leave in a few days. Her boyfriend, who was still in college in Texas, had given it to her and she knew if she left Vermont without it she would be broken hearted about it (I think wedding bells are in the future!).
She had taken the necklace off to go for a swim, and set it on her towel on the sand. When she came back from the swim, the bugs decided to attack her (Vermont bugs are fierce this time of year!!). She jumped up, grabbed her towel and hurried down the beach a little ways to get away from them. In the haste she had forgotten about the necklace. When she realized it was gone she went back and couldn’t find it. After searching for it for a couple days she thought she would buy a metal detector. But then she learned about The Ring Finders and gave me a call. I’m glad she didn’t buy one, because it would’ve cost her $800 or more to get one that would pick up the the signal from such a light chain and tiny diamond pendant.
I got started and dug about 50 tiny pieces of foil and scrap metal. I got a faint signal with crazy numbers and dug it anyway. About 2 or 3 inches down was a beautiful gold chain! What a relief, there it was, and noone had walked off with it! She collapsed to the ground and held it tight. One very happy lady!!

Lost Diamond Cross Pendant found Fort Worth

  • from Fort Worth (Texas, United States)

Received an email from Cyndi on July 8, 2020 that she lost her diamond pendant while fighting off a wasp attack while exiting a backyard gate at her sons home. I contacted her and discussed what had happened. She was quite upset from the loss and also got stung seven times. I scheduled to be out the following day. We searched her sons and neighbors yard for about 45 minutes. The pendant was found in the neighbors yard about 15 feet behind the gate.
She was not present but her son and mom were really surprised. I called Cyndi and she was elated, and very happy. I’m glad your ok Cyndi and despite what happened I’m glad this made your day!  Thank  you for the reward!!

Lost Lady’s Class Ring – Kill Devil Hills – Outer Banks, NC – Found

  • from Ponce Inlet (Florida, United States)

On Friday the 10th I got a call from a young lady who had lost her 2020 class ring in the sand.  She was nearby in Kill Devils Hills so I told her that I could be there in about 15 minutes.

When I arrived, I met her at the beach access and she said that her parents were waiting on the beach.  When I arrived mom and dad said that they had just recently purchased the ring for their daughter.  It was brand new!

The dad had circled an area about 12 feet in diameter…so I began.  On second swipe I got a good hit on my Minelab Equinox 800.  I said, “It can’t be that easy, can it?”  I reached down and picked up and handful of sand that contained the ring.

Mom was thrilled and dad shook may hand (even though we aren’t supposed to do that anymore). They were both thrilled as was the young lady.
