Late last night I got a text from Steve who was camping at ThorneHill Broome Beach just north of Malibu. He and his wife had been stargazing on the sand when he went to get up and as he did his platinum ring fell off and buried itself in the dry sand. It was late, it was dark and searching was futile so Steve did the next best thing and searched the internet and found Dave The RingFinder. I messaged him back that I would be there bright and early the next morning and get his ring back to him so he could enjoy the rest of his camping stay.

I met Steve at 6:45am at the picnic table area where the loss occurred. The problem of finding his ring became apparent almost immediately in that picnic tables at beaches in Southern California are loaded with every bit of metal trash there is. Pull-tabs, rusty bottle caps, chunks of aluminum foil and items burned from fires long ago where all throughout the sand where the ring was lost. This was going to be hunt where I needed to eliminate as much trash as possible so I could actually hear his ring. Scoop after scoop of metal junk came out and finally I had the ability to listen for his ring and within a minute or two I got the sound I was looking for and Steve’s ring was in my scoop and going back to him! Another ring saved in Malibu by Dave The RingFinder.

SURF CITY,NC- WEDDING BAND LOST WHILE FLOATING in the OCEAN RETURNED

  • from Emerald Isle (North Carolina, United States)

Devin and his wife were vacationing from West Virginia when Devin, relaxing and floating in the ocean, felt his wedding ring slip off his finger. While I was out of state, my friend Justin took on the challenge of finding it. After a tough day, a few waves to the head, and even getting bumped by a 20-year-old on a boogie board, he managed to recover Devin’s ring from the Atlantic. Not every recovery is easy, and searching in the water is especially challenging.

Lost Ring Guard FOUND!

  • from Peoria (Arizona, United States)

A lady called me and said she was playing fetch with her dog and when she threw her arm out her ring and ring guard came off. She found her ring pretty much at her feet but could not find the ring guard. I found it approximately 60 ft away and diagonally from the area that her arm motion indicated , so we both figured that the dog must have found it carried it over there and dropped it haha! Persistence pays  off!I had a call from a lady who was pretending to play fetch with her dog and when she threw her arm out her ring and ring guard both came off. She found her ring near her feet but the ring guard was nowhere to be found. Until I found it about 60 ft away in a place that shouldn't have been haha. We figured the dog must have carried it over there and dropped it. Persistence pays off!

Lady’s White Gold USC Gamecocks Class Ring Takes Flight at High Tide, Found and Returned North Myrtle Beach SC

  • from North Myrtle Beach (South Carolina, United States)

On Saturday, August 8, 2026, I saw FB notifications on a post about a USC class ring being lost. Just before 6:30 p.m. I received a text message saying, “Hi Jim! Someone recommended you to me on face book. I lost my college ring in the ocean on 6th Ave. south in North Myrtle Beach today. Its silver and has a 13 on side and says Go Cocks on the inside. Is there any way you can help find it? It was high tide when it came off.” I responded saying call me with my phone number.” Within seconds my phone rang, and Cassy was on the other end. I got additional details and told her I’d be there in 15 minutes.

When I arrived, Cassy and her mother, Debbie was sitting in their golf cart waiting. As we walked out on the beach, Cassy said her and her mother had been throwing a ball, and her ring flew off. We walked out to the area, and Debbie showed me where she was standing and Cassy showed me where she had been. This happened right at high tide and they were ankle deep. I turned on the Equinox 800, started where Cassy and been standing and walked across the top of the slope. Since the ring was white gold, I was expecting a number on the machine’s VDI (visual display indicator) between 1-5. I got to about where Debbie had been standing and got a solid 2 on the VDI. Bingo!!! Dug a small scoop of sand, gently shook it out and had Cassy’s ring in the bottom of the scoop. I took it out and held it up for both of them to see it and Cassy gave out a little scream. Total time was maybe 2 minutes. Cassy was so excited and couldn’t believe how fast it was. Her lost treasure is now back exactly where it belongs.

Cassy, thank you for allowing me to help find and return your special USC ring.

Jim

Wedding Band Recovered at Grand Haven City Beach

  • from Grand Haven (Michigan, United States)

I received a text message from Amani at 5:15am this morning.  She and her husband, Mark, were visiting from Chicago and Amani lost her wedding band on the beach last night and couldn’t sleep.  Fortunately, she knew where it had slipped off.  Directly behind the Noto’s Restaurant she had marked the location with a large pile of sand.  By the time I arrived, Grand Haven State Park beach and the adjacent City beach were PACKED with people for a volleyball tournament.  I love beach searches as opposed water searches as the targets are much easier to find.  In less than 5 minutes Amani had her ring back and she was hugging and thanking me profusely.

BIG GOLD Chain Lost and Found In Va Beach VA

  • from Virginia Beach (Virginia, United States)

I got a call about a BIG gold chain lost in the ocean! I immediately went down to meet the owner. He was not sure when it came off so the search area was 1 block log and foot deep to waist deep water. I searched with no luck. I returned 3 more times on low tide and on the last trip I got a signal right at the water line! Bam! We got it and gave the owner a facetime call to let him know!

Lost and Found Water Recovery in Norfolk VA

  • from Virginia Beach (Virginia, United States)

It was a muddy rescue! A very unique recovery late yesterday evening. Got a call about a wallet and keys being dropped off of a pier. I checked the depth and it was only 3 feet but when I jumped in the water I went up to my knees in soft muck! I used a rope to hold on to while leaning to search. Pulled out an old crab pot and lots of mud looking for it. The pier had metal all around the bottom making detecting hard to do. After I gave up on detecting I started reaching down around the metal on the bottom around the pier. I first pulled up a cell phone and some other junk but then I pulled up the wallet and did not know I had found the right thing until I heard the owner screaming!

Gold Necklace Recovered Metal Detecting Scuba Minnesota

  • from Twin Cities Metro (Minnesota, United States)

Nadia was out swimming at a local beach with friends. One of her friends suggested she take off her gold necklace before she loses it. She agreed and took it off when it suddenly slipped out of her hand and disappeared into 4 feet of water. Her and her friends dove down for over an hour and couldn’t find it. This necklace was very sentimental to her. It was given to her by her Father just a couple weeks prior. It had initially belonged to Nadia’s Grandmother who had recently passed away. She had a tough time telling her Dad, though he just suggested doing a search for someone who might be able to help. Nadia searched the internet and found theringfinders.com and gave me a call the next day. We set up a day/time to meet and started the search. As I walked out into the water, Nadia told me where to stop and start my scuba search. The very first swing I got a nice hit on my Excalibur metal detector. There it was, a glistening gold necklace. I thought to myself, this is the quickest recovery of my life. I walked up to the shallows and handed it to her, she said, that’s not it. What? I couldn’t believe it, what are the chances? So, I went back in and after pulling out 30 to 40 other targets, I finally recovered Nadia’s necklace.

Glad I could help out Nadia!!

Darrin.
