Triple Ring Set Recovered!

I forgot to post this last September, but it’s an aweseome recovery story!  I was called out by a married couple who needed some help searching a sand bar for her lost ring set.  It consisted of three beautiful 14k rings from their engagement, wedding, and anniversary with many sparkly diamonds, and it was her pride and joy, in addition to their four wonderful children.  She was throwing a football in the water with some friends and noticed it gone.  She never  thought it would be recovered until they googled Ringfinders.  She, her husband, and  I searched for the better part of a day with no luck.   Then, I went out on my own for a full day, again with no  luck.  I ventured out a third time with my two friends,  Jeff and Brian, thinking three experienced detectorists would have better results.  I found the signal right about where she had searched with me the first time, and quickly texted a pic to her husband.  He drove to pick it up and bought the three of us some hot hamburgers and cold beer.    It was great to see his smile!  He didn’t tell his wife it had been found, but just laid it on the kitchen counter and snapped her picture when she saw it.   Nice of him to share it!   The Ringfinders make a lot of couples very happy to recover their treasured memories.  It’s more than just finding rings.

Soccer goalie’s wedding band recovered

Last week I received a call from a woman whose husband lost his ring on a soccer field in a park on the far west side of town.  I trundled out early in the morning to avoid the kids, and searched one goal for about 30 minutes, then switched to the other end.   In about 10 minutes, I found it just outside the chalk marks.  It must have slipped off of his finger just when he leapt out to block.     I snapped a photo of it, but forgot to ask his wife to pose when she drove by to recover it for her groom.  Oh well!   Will remember next time.

14K Man’s Wedding Band Lost in Myrtle Beach, Found and Returned

I got a call from Hunter about 3pm about his lost wedding band which turned out to be in Matt Fry’s area. I told him that one of us would call him back shortly. I called Matt and gave him the information and he told me he had some things going on and to go ahead and take it, so I did. I called Hunter back and we agreed to meet at 7pm.

Hunter and I met in his front yard and he told me the story. Their family heirloom wedding rings, which had quite a story attached to them, belonged to his wife Michelle’s aunt who passed them on to Hunter and Michelle as a wedding present. Michelle and Hunter got married on July 6th of this year and Hunter’s ring was too small for his ring finger so he wore it on his pinky finger. At some point during the celebration of their wedding and partaking of adult beverages the ring fell off his finger and has been lost since. Hunter had contacted another metal detectorist, not associated with The Ring Finders, a week after the loss who was unable to find the ring. He told me I was the last resort because their lease was up at the end of the month and they were moving. As I got started in my search Hunter handed me Michelle’s ring which was smaller but an exact duplicate that I tested with my AT Pro and got a solid 53 on the meter. A 53 on this machine is exactly where a nickel would ring up as. About 45 minutes later and after finding a buried nickel I got a second solid nickel reading and dug down through the grass and dirt to about 2-3 inches and this time it was Hunter’s ring. I cleaned it off and walked up to Hunter who was sitting on the porch. I showed him the ring and he flew out of the chair and gave me the biggest bear hug I’ve ever had. I took the ring back to get some pictures while he ran inside to tell Michelle. She came outside in utter shock and more hugs. How can it possibly get any better than this other than Michelle told me she had just found out she’s pregnant with twins. Wow!!

Hunter offered me a very generous reward but I agreed to take a portion if they’d use the rest to buy their new twins something from me. They agreed. Very happy ending all the way around!!!

Lost Ring Perdido Key – FOUND

This worked out great!  Jason called me and told me that he had lost the wedding band that had been on his finger for 14 years in chest deep water in the Gulf of Mexico.  I felt horrible telling him that I wasn’t able to get in the water for a week because of Doctor’s orders.  I gave him the number of another ringfinder and wished him well.  I called back to check on him a few days later and found out that because of the depth they weren’t able to recover it.  I decided to call my doctor and I got cleared and gave Jason the good news.  I ended up finding it in only 37 mins and mailed Jason back his ring in Illinois.  As you can see, it is back on his finger where it belongs.  Jason was a little shy so he didn’t send a smile picture but check out his testimonial if you really want to see how happy he is.  Congrats Jason!

Lost Gold Jewelry Cache Found In Detroit Michigan

The Diamond Ring Effect!

While most astronomy people in America today were looking for the ring pictured on the left, this nice lady was looking for a ring of another kind. She got in touch with me and mentioned that when her mom was ill had mentioned burying some family jewelry out behind the house awhile ago and wanted her to know about it. When I got on site I had noticed many empty holes where she had searched to no avail. I turned on my Sidewinder metal detector in all metal mode and as I gridded the suspected area I was anticipating that sweet threshold increase that means treasure in most cases. With a 90 degree temperature in the Detroit area today and the typical humidity, I got chills thinking that it won’t be too much longer until I got the target signal. The sidewinder finally signaled that metal was below and digging about a foot down my shovel hit metal! We both exclaimed there it is! at the same time as I pulled up a metal can. Handing it to her and watching her pry it opened couldn’t be fast enough! Contained inside and pictured was a beautiful 14k white gold ring, a 14k yellow gold cross with chain and a 14k white gold bracelet!

Then I said…now that’s the diamond ring effect I’m talkin’ bout!

Newly wed loses wedding band in Lake Michigan

We were water detecting at Hess Lake in Newaygo, Michigan this morning after going back to my car and checking my emails and text I received a text from Tom Towsend, a TRF, who was unable to make it to Montague, MI to help find the ring so he ask me for my help, I received an email from Al Holden at Prostock Detectors stating he referred my name to Eric R., I then received a voice mail from Eric and immediately called him and got the information and was immediately on our way with my TRF partner, Dave Boyer. Fortunately we were less than 50 miles from Eric and was there in less than an hour. Before I left for Newaygo this morning I checked Lake Michigan to see how the surf is doing, up or down. It was fairly smooth.

We arrived at Eric’s cabin and met him and his Dad, Neil, and 2 of his children (black Labs). Right off the bat I knew we were in good company because Neil was also a fellow Air Force vet. We got our gear and walked down to the lake talking to some neighbors who wished us well and then got a location as to where the ring was lost. The wind was kicking up and the water was getting choppier than it was this morning.

Eric and his wife Emily were playing catch with one of his dogs and when Eric made a catch in about chest deep water he felt the ring pop off and immediately went into recovery mode. He put on his wet suit armed himself with a mask and snorkel, a quarter and 3 screws. Yes, he wanted to drop the coin and screws into the water to see how fast the sand covers them. The ring was gone immediately and so was the quarter and screws.

Dave entered the water about waist deep and immediately got a signal. He found the quarter. A few minutes later a screw was recovered. We started to grid an area and went into neck deep water and made our way into shallower water. After about 20 minutes to a half an hour I got a good signal and about 6″ down I found Eric’s platinum wedding band. Looking at Dave I said I found it and then Eric saw Dave do a fist pump and knew we had found something. I walked out of the water towards Eric and handed him his ring. This is the point that every TRF’r waits for, the smiles, tears, thank you’s and “I can believe it”.

The camera came out and pictures were taken and the neighbors cheered. Dave an I are very happy for Eric and Emily and are glad we could put a happy end to their honeymoon.

Lost Ring Lake Erie

This was the hardest Ring find I have done since starting. When I was called by this lovely couple who were frantic about the ring they had lost I thought it would be a sure find. The man had been in Lake Erie swimming a few days earlier and lost  is platinum wedding ring in 3 feet of water. He wasn’t far from the beach and thought he knew exactly where it was. Should be easy right? However when I got there the winds had come up and there was 5 ft waves with zero visibility in the water. I had driven over an hour and a half to get there and when I saw the conditions my stomach sank. I knew this was going to be a hard one but  I have found some pretty difficult rings in the past and knew I needed to at least give it a try. When I went into the water there was also a lot of trash like tin foil which sounds terrible on a metal detector and can drown out the sound of gold. There was lots of pull tabs, pop tops (which by the way sound like gold on a detector) and Nails in the water making it even more difficult to find the ring. However I’ve been in bad conditions before and with the experience of finding over 300 rings I knew I might have a chance so I took my time and persevered.  The Zero visibility water and high waves were throwing me around quite vigorously for the better part of 20 minutes. However amongst all the odds I finally got a signal that I was sure sounded good. The bottom was solid stones  and gravel so I had to reach down a few times and pick up handfuls of the sharp stones until I finally got the target in my hand. When I came up from the water I saw the edge of a beautiful platinum ring amongst all the gravel in my hand. I held it up high and as the couple watched in disbelief I pulled out his lost wedding ring from the cup of my hand. They were amazed & ecstatic😀

Lost class ring, Sanford, Fl……Found and Returned!

Mr. Dave was born in 1928, grew up in Salem Oregon and graduated from High School in 1946. At 89 years of age, he has seen allot of life and he and his dear wife of 66 years are still very much alive and in love! Early in their marriage they felt God calling them to be missionaries and in 1957 they went to Papua New Guinea and served for 44 years. Now they are residents at our NTM Homes retirement center here in Sanford, Fl. and I and 40 other staff members have the honor and privilege to help care for them in their old age. Earlier this year their sons came down to help them move from a duplex apartment to one of our Adult Living Facility rooms. Going through closets and household stuff is not always easy and in the process Mr. Dave’s ring was no where to be seen.
A few weeks later I was searching for a misplaced part to a new shower unit and thought maybe someone had mistakenly thrown it into the construction debris dumpster. So I proceeded to go thru the garbage, starting at one end of the 25 foot container. After a while I noticed that there were bags of household garbage mixed in with the construction debris. So, one by one I threw the household garbage bags out onto the ground and noticed that one of the bags had a tear in it. I never did find the shower part I was originally looking for so I jumped out of the container and proceeded to load up the bags into my trailer. There were 7 large bags all together, the heavy duty Hefty type and I was thankful they did not rip open and spill all over the place. As I loaded the last bag I noticed it had ripped open and I was surprised to see that only a few items of garbage had fallen out. Was I ever shocked to see that a beautiful gold ring had also fallen out and was laying in the mulch! I could not imagine how it got there and where it had come from. So I looked in the garbage bag and found a piece of discarded mail and determined that the lost ring had to belong to Mr. Dave. So I devised a little plan to surprise Mr. Dave and in the end he was very, very happy to have his lost class ring back once again.

Lost Silver Ring Found in Downtown Detroit Michigan

Bees, Fire Ants and Picker Plants……

Were a bit much for this nice wife and husband who called me asking for help in finding her silver ring that slipped off while doing some landscaping today. He listened to a podcast about the ringfinders and decided to give it a go!
The ring is a gift from her mother-in-law who custom made it back in college, that’s why it is unique and un-replaceable. It means a lot to both of them.
I got on site and checked with the MXT in amongst the landscaping beds in both front and back yard where she remembered being. I also checked the 2 bags of yard debris. We took a break and had some water to cool off a bit and recap the situation. I went back out front and swept the area again where hubby was holding back some foliage and got a sweet silver signal that revealed this beautiful specimen! I’m not saying I’m immune to the conditions on this hunt but the bites and scratches were well worth it!

Lost Gold Hawaiian Style Wedding Band at Ala Moana Beach Park…FOUND!!!

This ring find began when I got a text from Nichole who lives in Hawaii Kai on Oahu. While she was enjoying a day at Ala Moana Beach park with her husband Keli’i and their two young sons; Keli’i asked her to hold his ring while he went in the water. She was going to secure it in her purse but got distracted and put the ring on her thumb while playing with their youngest son. At some point the ring came off and she wasn’t positive whether it was in the sand or the water. I started my grid search in the dry sand working towards the water line. A few coins, an aluminum toe ring and two pull tabs later I was at the waters edge. I told Nichole to take me to the extreme left edge of the grid and I would work towards the right. Nichole acted as my shore marker and Keli’i stood at my last dry sand mark. I worked out to waist deep water and back to the shoreline. A few more coins kept me encouraged that no other detectorist had been in the area for awhile…we had a chance. Then as Nichole and Keli’i were about to meet on the shoreline I got a great tone in between them. One scoop down and there was Keli’i’s ring. No doubt with the engraved Hawaiian style. I could tell Nichole was holding back tears. That’s OK joyous tears they would be. Aloha to Nichole & Keli’i!
