On June 3rd I get a phone call from Joe who is out of town on vacation letting me know that there is a Mr. Muto who is searching the beach in Ko’olina for his Wife’s wedding ring. I gather the information from Joe and give Mr. Muto a call in which i reassure Mr. Muto that i will be heading out and to mark off the area in which he thinks it might be. I arrive at Ko’olina and meet up with Mr Muto which i start looking for the ring. I come across coins, rubbish,  until i hear a loud gold tone. I dig the site and inside the Xtreme scoop is a beautiful Tiffany and Co. Diamond ring. I look towards Mr. Muto and ask him what the ring looks like and He say “Tiffany” and right away I let him know of the great news… I FOUND IT! I returned it to Mr. Muto and we both leave the beach with this overwhelming joy that washed over us with relief and satisfaction.

The next day I receive a call from Mr. Mutos wife letting me know that there is another ring lost. I let her know that i will give her a call later that night and need to check. I call the Muto’s that evening and let them know I have a Cartier diamond wedding band.  They ended up driving to my house and we were able to reunite the last of the lost rings! What started out as a single ring find ended up being a double and both were recovered and returned to the rightful owner. Mahalo Joe Another Happy ending! Aloha is ALIVE!

Lost White Gold & Diamonds Wedding Band at Kaimana Beach Waikiki…FOUND!!!

This ring find began when I got a call from Tim who was spending the day at Kaimana Beach with his lovely wife Bonnie. While coming back from a swim his White Gold & Diamonds Wedding Band fell off his finger at the shoreline. The surf was up a bit and his ring disappeared from view. A gentleman on the beach noticed his situation and googled lost ring Waikiki and that is how they tracked me from the ring finders. I loaded my car and was conveniently parked in less then 15 minutes from the call. Tim showed me the spot and in I went. First target sounded good but it was a nickel. Then some other detectorist with a Tesoro Sand Shark walked right over to where I was and started causing a lot of interference. I said to him, “Hey Bud how about a little detecting etiquette!” He gave me a n, “Oh OKAY” then moved on. The nerve! I started a walk towards shore and Bam! That was it. One scoop down and Tim’s ring was in the scoop. I walked the scoop over to Tim so he could retrieve his ring and applause erupted up on the beach when they all saw his elation. Lost Platinum Diamond Wedding Rings in Sand at Laguna Beach, CA. .. Found

I received a email early Saturday morning from Catalina saying she had lost her wedding rings in the sand at Laguna Beach the day before. I immediately sent her a reply asking for her to call me as soon as possible. This is a small beach we have to get there first thing this morning.

I wasn’t sure when she would read my email reply, so I sent her another email telling her I was going to drive to the beach while waiting for her call. If she could meet me there it would help.

Just as I drove into the parking lot, I could see a lady on the sand looking down kicking her feet through the sand. It was Catalina and she ran over to meet me. I almost knew what she was going to tell me. Catalina said that she taken off her rings to apply sunscreen on her daughter. She didn’t discover that her rings were missing till later that night. 

We had the whole beach to ourselves and the search area was only about 25 x 25 ft. It didn’t take long to find the two very nice Platinum Diamond Rings. Catalina was standing next to me when I scooped up the rings and they made a loud clanking noise as they hit the bottom of the stainless steel scoop.

I said to her we got them and the look on her face was indescribable. A look of relief and joy at the same time.

I don’t want to seem like I’m exaggerating about getting to that beach so fast. It is a small busy beach and with summer just starting there are more people with metal detectors on the beach. Most of them would return a ring if they could find the owner. The problem is that it is not easy to find the person that lost the ring. Craigslist or lost and found posters in the area are not very successful.

Catalina was very happy and grateful to have her rings back. It was a pleasure to help her.

Rose Gold Wedding Band Lost at Hermosa Beach, CA…Found and Happily Returned.

Richard called this evening. He had lost his wedding ring while at the beach with his family. He had taken the ring off and wrapped it in his shirt so it would not get lost while going in and around the water. The problem occurred when he went to get his shirt, forgetting the ring was inside. He unraveled his shirt while walking from where they had been sitting, and then realized the ring was missing. He searched but was unable to find the ring. I told him I would be happy to come and help.

When I got to the beach, Richard met me and took me to the area. He explained again what had happened, and in what direction he had been walking, so I had a good idea how I would grid the area. I worked all the area where he had been, and then began to move out. About 10 feet from where they had been sitting I got a good signal in the headphones, and scooped. As I shook out the sand, I could see the gleam of gold in the bottom; I knew I had found the ring. Richard was very happy. I was glad to have restored his joy, and know he will sleep well tonight!

Lost Engagement Ring in the Sand at Long Beach, CA. .. Found Next Day

Courtney had lost her engagement ring while taking a trip to Long Beach, CA.with her son. It was a 90 mile trip from where they live and was a great day at the beach until she got home realizing that her white gold engagement ring was missing. She had taken it off at the beach tying it to thin string handle of her beach bag for safekeeping. 

After double checking inside of her beach bag and frantically checking her car, she believed that it may have fallen in the sand while removing things during the day. 

Determined to find the ring, the next day Courtney found a place to rent a metal detector and made the drive of more than two hours to search for her ring. After more than half a day with the rental detector and being totally frustrated, Courtney did an internet search where she found TheRingFinders.com getting my contact information.

I was able to meet her on the beach within a half hour. She had read a few of my blog stories and said she wanted see me work my magic. I told her, if the ring was there I could find it. It could have been lost in several places, she had eliminated the car and her beach bag. Now we could try the sandy beach which is the best possibility for a ring to hide if it were dropped at the beach.

I set up my metal detector and did a few practice swings away from the search area. After three 20 ft grid lines “BOOM” … Courtney’s very special engagement ring in my sand scoop. Then giving it to her the great smile followed by tears of joy. What a special moment that never gets old for me to witness. Another successful ring recovery that could have had gone either way. There were so many places the ring could have been lost.

Lost Gold Hawaiian Heirloom Bracelet at Aulani Disney Resort…FOUND!!!

This Bracelet find begn this morning at 5:45 AM while eating my breakfast when the phone rang. I thought for sure it was going to be one of the recent prank calls that have been plaguing the island. But on the other end was Elizabeth from Makakilo on Oahu who was calling on her granddaughter Lexcy’s behalf. The previous day while doing back flips off a paddleboard in the lagoon the heirloom gold Hawaiian bracelet Elizabeth had given to her came off in 4 feet of water and disappeared. The high surf on the west side was making the water in the lagoon so turbulent and murky you couldn’t see the bottom even in shallow water. After a few futile attempts snorkeling to find the bracelet they contacted a relative that works at the resort and she put them in contact with Aloha Security who gave them my number for recovery. My fear was that at low tide the water would clear up enough for someone to spot the bracelet and then not return it. I decided to go that afternoon. Lexcy sent me a description and a few pictures of the location. 10 feet on either side of the rope line and 30 feet out. When I arrived the tide was high and the water was rolling way up onto the beach and I was getting pushed about pretty well. I did the entire area with only finding a single cent. I stood on the shore and watched the water roll in and noticed it was pushing hard to the right. I decided to try woking 30 feet to the right then through the original grid. When I got out to neck deep water I got a gnarly sound in the Excal and it really sounded strange. There were a few sweeps of the coil that were solid then the gnarly sound would return. I started scooping in the sightless water. Missed the target. Missed again and again and again. This was getting frustrating. Finally after about the 20th try I put my foot in front and pushed the target into my scoop. Up it came and as the scoop broke the surface of the water there was a gorgeous Gold Hawaiian Bracelet inside. Whoa! No wonder, the bracelet was nearly the circumference of my scoop. I immediately went ashore cleaned up then called Elizabeth. I asked her if the word “KUULEI” mean’t anything to her? You found it? That was her name in Hawaiian. I could hear her sobbing and it was joyful. We decided to meet at a nearby McDonald’s parking lot where I was able to give the bracelet back to Lexcy. There were a few hugs all around and many praises of thanks. These are the moments we enjoy the most about this wonderful hobby. Aloha to Lexcy & Grandma Elizabeth!

Wedding Ring Lost in Grass in Santa Monica, CA…Found and Happily Returned.

Monday afternoon Antwon called explaining how he had lost his wedding ring after having removed it from his finger for a couple of minutes. Apparently it is a bit tight, so for a little relief he figured he would remove it and then put it back on when his finger felt better. The problem was that after he removed the ring it dropped into a patch of very tall and thick grass. I let him know I was on my way.

When I got there Antwon informed me that he had been there for 3 hours looking for the ring. He showed me the area, and I knew this would be a quick search. I turned on the detector, took a few swings, got the signal, put the pin pointer in, and had the ring in hand. Antwon looked more relieved than happy, but I could see the joy restored. Then I asked how long he had been married, and he said 3 days, so I understood. Glad to have been able to make his day. I know he slept well that night!

I had just gotten home from recovering an engagement ring, when a call came in from Jason who had lost his wedding ring at the beach. I needed to eat, because I hadn’t eaten all day, so I asked if he could wait, and he agreed to. I let him know I would be on my way as soon as I completed my meal and would let him know.

When I got to the beach Jason and his wife met me, and they took me directly to the area they had been. Wisely Jason had used landmarks to identify where they had been, which helped put me in a good place to help them faster. He had been worried that the incoming tide would have washed his ring into the sea, but from what he told me, I assured him, that even though the water would come up to where they had been sitting, I didn’t think it would wash the ring away. I began my pass, and took about 3-4 swings when I got the signal in the headphones. One scoop, and his ring was in my hand, held out to him. They were surprised it was so quick, but the fact that Jason had used landmarks to get back to the spot helped me to help him. To make the recovery more special, Jason and his wife were going to celebrate their first wedding anniversary in a couple of weeks; how cool is that? What a great day, and what great smiles.

Engagement Ring Lost for 3 Weeks in Simi Valley, CA…Found and Joyously Returned.

Leah contacted me last Saturday explaining how she had lost her 2 rings (An engagement ring, and wedding band) 3 weeks ago in a school soccer field, and was wondering if I could help. It wasn’t sounding too hopeful, but I felt she needed closure, so I agreed to meet her for the search. With that much time having gone by, there were so many possibilities for the rings not to be there, but sometimes you never know. She was pretty certain that the field is where the loss occurred after reviewing pictures from the event she was at there.

We met at the school, fortunately now out of session to perform the search. Leah took me to the field, and there weren’t too many areas where the ring could have hidden, but the places she had been had some nice tall grass, and weed patches. I began my search, and then Leah showed me another area she had been that looked more promising, so I changed my search area. Leah and her friend were doing a visual search of their own while I worked. There was a lot of metal in the ground, most of it too deep to find, but causing me to stop and check very often. Finally in one of the larger weed patches, after getting a solid signal, I put in the pin pointer to locate the origin of the signal, and spotted her engagement ring, a large diamond solitaire. I then lifted it and held it out for her to see. She then came running over, looked at the ring, and said “My ring, this my ring” with a tone of disbelief, I am sure thinking it would never be found. I then focused my search on her wedding band, going over all the areas she had been, and expanded out from there, but was unable to find it. It could have fallen in an area that was exposed to others to see, and might have been picked up; 3 weeks is a long time. It was great to have found Leah’s engagement ring. She got it for her 10th wedding anniversary last year, and was heartbroken to have lost it. I was so glad to bring her smile back.

A Seagull’s Misadventure: Recovering a Lost Wedding Ring at Ventura Pier

Early morning brought an urgent text from Jason, seeking aid in the search for his lost wedding ring near the north side of the Ventura Pier. With summer break granting me the freedom to assist, I swiftly arranged to meet him at the swings within half an hour.

Upon arrival, Jason recounted the unfortunate tale of his ring’s disappearance. During a seaside outing with his young son, he had removed his ring to apply sunscreen, placing it on his son’s shirt. In a twist of fate, a squadron of seagulls, hungry for a snack, swooped down and snatched the shirt—with the ring still attached—before soaring off into the sky.
