Snowy Family Outing in Running Springs Ends With Lost Wedding Ring

On March 28th, 2019, I received an email from Luigi stating that approximately one month earlier he took his family to Running Springs, CA to play in the fresh snow. They had pulled off the highway into a turnout which had a slope behind it. Everyone began sliding down the hill. As Luigi was sliding down, he put his bare hands into the snow to slow down. He later realized he had lost his wedding ring. They looked for it but to no avail, so they left. After reviewing video at home he knew approximately where he had lost it.

Luigi purchased an inexpensive metal detector and went back up to search again but the snow had turned to hardpack and was too difficult to dig in. So he left and considered it lost for good. Weeks later he was talking to his brother-in-law in Florida who suggested checking The Ringfinders website which led him to me.

So the next day he and I drove up to Running Springs to the turnout where they played and he showed me the slope. The snow luckily had melted, leaving a lot of trash exposed on the ground.  Based on where the slope was I decided to move my truck closer before getting my detector out. Luigi, unbeknown to me, had climbed down the slope. He suddenly re-appeared with a smile from ear to ear saying he had found his ring. I couldn’t help but get that same smile as I  “high 5’d” him. So I was happy to drive him home and call it a day, since he was the ring finder. But Luigi made it quite clear to me on the ride home that it was because of me that he found it. He stated he would never have gone back up there if it were not for the confidence I displayed. He knew I would have found it, but decided to look first. So a great day for both of us!

Right place, right time!

I had just finished my time detecting at Newport Beach, and was heading back to the car and still swinging in the dry sand, when two young ladies approached me and asked if my detector could find Silver? I said it sure can, and then Kiley proceeded to tell me that she had lost her Silver ring that her Grandmother had given her, earlier in the day and if I could help her find it.

I asked her to show me the area, and she seemed to know about where it was, but I said that there were no towel marks or indication that they had been sitting there and she said she lost it earlier in the day. I figured it was probably still there, as I had not seen anyone else detecting the dry sand, and there were so many people there earlier, I doubt anyone had found it yet. I said I am a member of TheRingFinders.com and do this stuff a lot, and her and her friend had no idea a web site for this existed.

I asked her to walk a rectangle where she thought it would be and I started gridding it…. After about 5 minutes, I found a ring! I took it over to her and her friends and she said that was not it, and they had found that one earlier when they were searching with their hands! Why did they throw it back? She said it was OK and didn’t want me to spend too much time, it was probably just lost, and I said I would keep searching. They seemed ready to leave, so I told her if she gave me her number, I would text her if I found it and she did.

I went back to the area and finished the rectangle, with no luck, so I started going around the outside of the rectangle, expanding it to see if maybe it was just outside that area. After two enlarging passes around the outside, bingo, I found a silver ring with waves on it. I called Kiley and asked her what the ring looked like (she had never told me) and she said it had waves on it. I said “I have your ring in my hand!” She was thrilled and said “I am right behind you, we haven’t left yet!” and she came over to claim her ring.

Since I found nothing else tonight at the beach, I was glad to have returned her ring to her, and went home happy too.

Laura was at Huntington State Beach with her family all day Sunday. She believed that her Rose Gold Diamond engagement ring fell in the sand when she removed her sweater from her beach bag. Late Wednesday night she found TheRingFinders website while researching metal detectors on line.

It was almost midnight when she sent me an email. She was asking if I could help her. It was 9 am Thursday morning when I read and replied to her email, asking her to call me ASAP. Emails are nice but it was another couple hours till we were able to set up a meeting on the beach. 

We were lucky that it wasn’t Huntington City Beach which has very efficient beach sifting equipment. Also this time of year there is always a chance that recreational detectorist may have found it, not knowing who to return it to.

As we walked towards the fire pits where the ring was lost. I tried not to tell Laura about the negative possibilities that could hamper our search. Laura showed me the first of two places it could be. Setting up my detector, I took a couple practice swings. Beginning my grid I got nice solid signal that didn’t quite sound like gold. After scooping the target, I could see the rose gold engagement ring in the scoop. Rose gold is a composite of metals that gives a little different ID reading than other precious metals. 

Laura lit up like a light when she saw it in the scoop. She gave me a big smile for the photo as you can see. We walked back to our cars and she was full of joy all the way there. She had four miserable days worrying that her ring was gone forever. Now the ring was back where it belongs. It was definitely a pleasure to help her, it never gets old doing this. Lost Rings at Night! – Pensacola Beach – FOUND!

Well, I’m not sure if this counts as 2 rings or more but I am sure that Kelly and Bill are absolutely thrilled that I was able to put them back on her hands where they belong. Kelly and Bill have been married for 25 years and have been down vacationing from Michigan. Kelly folded her rings into her swimsuit early in the day for safekeeping and forgot they were there when she got up later to meet her sister. You can imagine her shock when she realized they were gone that evening. Kelly went ahead and called me even though it was nighttime and I’m glad she didn’t wait. Bill had gone out with a sand flea rake for fishing and combed the area already to no avail. I told him later that he had actually just made the rings go deeper and deeper every time he disturbed the sand because of the density of gold. Luckily for Kelly and Bill, I have a wonderful wife and even though we were at dinner 30 minutes away, she offered to ride with me and we immediately went home and grabbed my gear. I met Bill in the parking lot and he walked me down to the area he thought they had lost them. I could see all of the rake marks and I told Bill I would start my search there and then fan out if needed. I absolutely love night searches on the beach. It’s nice and cool and you can hear the waves over the hum of the machine in my headphones. You can enjoy the stars without bumping into sunbathers and it’s just a great time to enjoy what I do. I also knew that I had a very anxious couple waiting on the outcome so I was very glad that as I made my first pass I heard a faint gold sound. I was a little surprised at how deep it was even though I knew Bill had thoroughly raked the area. When my first gentle scoop to five inches came back empty I thought to myself that they were very lucky they called me and I had the machine that I was using. The second scoop was the charm and I reached down and dug the first ring out of the scoop to make sure I didn’t scratch it. When I saw that I had them both in the scoop, I smiled and handed them to Bill. With a shaky hand, he asked me to hold the light and he took a picture and sent it to Kelly in the room so she could stop worrying immediately. We walked back up and told my wife that I was already done in less than 10 minutes and Bill asked us both to come up and meet Kelly. When we walked in the door I was quickly reminded why I do this. Bill and Kelly both got choked up remembering how much those rings had been a part of over the last 25 years. I was glad that my wife got to witness that and I hope Bill and Kelly have many, many more happy years together. 👍😃

Lost Gold Honeymoon Ring in Aulani Lagoon Ko Olina…FOUND!!!

This ring hunt began on November 11, 2018 when I got a text from Paul from Moreno Valley California. While on vacation and enjoying the day boogie boarding in Aulani Lagoon Paul’s Gold Ring slipped off and disappeared in about 8 feet of water. Paul told me his wife bought the ring for him while on their Hawaii honeymoon 20 years ago. I figured this would be an easy scuba hunt. I searched at least three times on scuba in the area Paul thought it was lost but I didn’t find his Gold ring. Then this past Saturday while scuba detecting for another ring in the Aulani lagoon I found what I thought was Paul’s ring. It had been nearly 5 months so I texted a picture to Paul to confirm. Bingo! It was the ring indeed. I mailed the ring on April Fool’s Day and as you can see in the pic above the ring is back on Paul’s finger in California today. So glad to make this return. Lost Platinum Wedding Band at Kawela Bay…FOUND!!!

This ring find began when I got a text from Mark who was vacationing on Oahu from Calgary Canada. While enjoying the day at Kawela Bay he was hitting a volley ball to his daughter on the beach when during one of the returns he felt his Platinum Wedding Band fly off. He wasn’t exactly sure but was fairly certain it went into the shallow water along the beach. Not greater than 3 feet deep. Since it was late we decided to meet at the Bay at first light. When I arrived Mark was already there so we went straight to the beach. I started in the wet sand and worked my way into the water. The wet sand was sterile and I didn’t find a single target. But as I entered the water at the low tide mark the Equinox started going crazy with tones. Every piece of metal trash was waiting for me. Knowing a decent size Platinum Ring had been 16/17 on the Nox I decided to ignore the other targets. Occasionally and more often then I preferred I had to dig some trash and that was taking some time. After about 45 minutes I could see Mark was getting nervous I hadn’t found the ring. The hunt area was only 20 feet into the water but I decided to start a little deeper. After about 15 minutes I got a banging tone 16/17 on the Nox. I scooped once and there in the scoop was Mark’s ring but I wasn’t sure it was his as he didn’t describe the grooves to me. I said I think I found it and Mark confirmed with enthusiasm that it was indeed his ring. Vacation back on track. Aloha to Mark!

Three Diamond Rings Lost at Will Rogers State Beach, CA…Found and Happily Returned.

Last Sunday I got a call from a young lady who had taken her 3 rings (2 18K, and 1 platinum) off at the beach, and placed them on her towel. When she and her friends went to leave they picked up everything and walked off, forgetting the rings were on the towel. They went back and searched desperately for her rings after realizing what had happened, but could not find them. They called me about 6:00 PM to see if I could do a search for them. I said I would be happy to, and told them when I could be there, but they decided to search some more, before having me come out. Well they did not call me out for the search until about 8:30 PM, and I left right away.

I got to the area about 9:30 PM, but was unable to get parking because the streets shut down at 10:00 PM, so I had to park about 1 mile North and walk back. I got to the area shown by the directions they had given me, and started my search; it was just me and the beach at that time of night. By 11:00 I had her rings in my hand, and was able to text her of a successful hunt. We got together yesterday for the ring return, and she was very happy to have her rings back, one of which had been her mother’s. A great hunt!

Diamond Engagement Ring Lost in Van Nuys Park…Found and Joyfully Returned.

A week ago Monday I received a call from Megha; she had lost her engagement ring while celebrating the Holi Festival of Colors at a park the day before. She had been covered in colored powder from the festivities, and while trying to brush off some of the powder she with one flick of the wrist felt her ring fly off of her finger into the grass. She and friends and family searched all over for the ring, but were not able to find it. I told her that I could be there the next morning, but she did not have transportation to the park, so we had to wait until this last Friday to do the search. I was concerned that the ring would not be there when we did the search, but I promised to do the search for her none the less.

When I arrived to the park 4 days later, Megha’s Husband met me and took me out to the area of the loss. As we were walking out across the grass, about the equivalent of 4 football fields, I could see and feel that the thatch was about 4 inches thick, and was mowed long to keep the lawn healthy, so I knew how the ring disappeared so quickly. Megha was looking in the area she believed the loss occurred. We discussed how it happened, and I got ready for the search looking at a very wide expanse of grass, and thinking it might be a long search. I began, and made 3 short passes, when I got a good strong repeatable signal. I put the pin pointer in and there it was Megha’s beautiful engagement ring; she had remembered the exact spot! Needless to say she and her husband were very grateful. It was a wonderful day!

Lost Silver & Diamonds Wedding Band at Ko Olina Lagoon 4…FOUND!!!

This ring find began when a young lady approached me in the water detecting and asked if I could find her girlfriend Christina’s Wedding Ring in the sand on the beach where they were enjoying the sunny day. I said sure and followed her over to the area. She introduced me to Christina whose husband is currently deployed overseas on the USS Preble Guided Missile Destroyer. While sitting on a blanket Christina lifted a towel in which her ring was in over her head and the ring flew out into the sand and disappeared. We cleared out the area of towels and beach stuff and I started my search. In 10 seconds I got a steady 5/6 on the Equinox just over the blankets edge. One small scoop and there was Christina’s wedding ring in the scoop. Total elation and relief was her reaction especially on how quick I found the ring. Lets just say I’m a decent operator with an awesome Equinox! Aloha to Christina.

Lost Wedding Ring in Sicklerville NJ Found by Dave Milsted

I received an email overnight asking for help in finding a lost wedding band. I asked the usual questions, when, how, where, type of ring, what is the ring made of?

Nicole’s husband was doing yard work earlier in the week and noticed when he was done that his ring was missing. They believe it might be in a huge pile of leaves. The property is about a half an acre. They have searched with no luck. I agreed to do a search Saturday afternoon.

I arrived at the house and there were 2 people in a car in front of the house, obviously searching for something. It was Nicole’s parents looking for the ring. No luck. I met Nicole and asked her to show me the possible locations that the ring might be.

She showed me a large pile of leaves. It was large. I asked to see the back yard. We walked through the gate and stopped as she explained where her husband was working. As she was explaining I looked down to see how thick the grass was, and there was the ring.

No metal detector was used and I found it in less than 1 minute. Nicole couldn’t believe it. She said everyone has looked and couldn’t found it. Her parents were amazed. It took longer for me to put my equipment into my truck than it did to find the ring.
