Wreck Beach UBC… Nude Beach Gold

Wreck Beach Gold

Wreck Beach Gold Ring

I received a call from a young lady who told me that she lost her husbands 22k gold wedding band just before night fall yesterday. She told me they were at Wreck Beach(Nude Beach)and she was holding it for her husband so he wouldn’t lose it while he went swimming.

While she was soaking up the sun she felt something bite her on the back so she swung her arms back and that’s when the ring came off. She didn’t see the ring come off but she knew that’s when it happened.

I met up with the young couple who are going to university, UBC. We met at the top and walked down 490+ steps to the bottom to get to the beach. I thought it was going to be a quick search as they were sure they could put me in the exact area the ring came off, I started my search and after one hour I could tell they were very concerned that I wouldn’t find the ring.

I kept expanding the grid knowing that the ring could have launched off her finger and traveled far from the spot. I had the young lady re-enact what happen with my ring. The first time my ring went flying back about 6 yards, the second time it went back only a few feet.

I knew that the ring would be behind where they were sitting so I grid searched hard in that area. Closing in on 1 1/2 of searching I knew I had to think deep and go for the faint signals. Her husband told me that he raked the area with this big beach rake, but couldn’t find it, he spent 2 hours searching.

Because it was taking me so long I figured it must have got buried deep when he was raking the area…Most of the time I’m waiting for the loud and proud signal because it was a resent loss but this made me go after the deep ones and my second faint signal was his beautiful 22k gold wedding band! 8+ inches down.

He was little shocked at first as I guess they were thinking the worst because it was taking me so long. I love the challenge and some times it takes a while but its worth the smile!

The Flying Ring Part 2…

The Flying Ring… Part 1/North Vancouver

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

I had a call for a lost ring the other day and when I talked to the young man he told me that he gave his ring to his step son and he lost it in this field.
We met at the field and he showed me the area that he figured it might be lost in, I told him it might take a while so if he wanted to go home I’d call him when I found the ring. I started my search and after an 1 1/2 I had no ring. I felt I did a good grid search and I called to ask if he could come down with his son so he could show me the area he was playing in.

About ten minutes later his wife shows up with their son and I was thinking great now I can get a better idea of the area. His wife told me straight out that it had nothing to do with her son, she told me her husband threw it away…

No judgment as this happens a lot and he isn’t the first and won’t be the last to get mad and throw a ring! This however changed everything as the ring could have gone a long way…

I spent another hour or more and didn’t find the ring but I will be back to finish up the search. The chances of finding the ring will be better if I can get the young man to come to the field and throw a test ring so I can gage the distance it traveled.

I’ll keep you posted with part 2 of the flying ring soon!

Thanks for reading my stories.

Ring Testimonial…

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

I lost my wedding band over a month ago now and I was quite disappointed to say the least. I’ve never taken my ring off except for a few hours to do odd chores around the house for the last 10 years. After losing the ring, it felt like I lost a part of me. So I started scouring “lost and found” ads in the paper and craigslist hoping to find my ring. And this is how I found Chris Turner, on Craigslist, offering his service to find lost jewelry for people. So I contacted Chris, told him where, when and how I lost it. He said he’ll try to look for it but there won’t be any guarantee. I resigned to the fact that he won’t find it since it’s been lost in the lake for at least 3 weeks after calling him. But lo and behold, one beautiful Saturday morning he gives me a call to let me know he found it!!!! They say miracles don’t happen but it did, Chris happened. I want to take this opportunity to say thanks to you again buddy. Big Thanks!!!

Regards,

Jason

Metal Detecting Lake Gold in Golden Ears Park

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

Last week I received an email from Jason and he told me the story about his lost ring in Alouette lake in Maple Ridge. I was excited to search for the ring until he told me it was lost for over a month.

I knew this would be a difficult search due to the time the ring was lost and because lots of people search lakes. I was going to meet up on Saturday so Jason could show me the exact location but he had to work that day.

I had a few searches on Sunday so I told him that I’d go on Saturday and take a look. We discussed the search area and Jason gave me a good idea of the area it could be lost in, so off I went.

I got there early morning and I was surprised to see how big the lake was! I started my grid search and I was closing in on 4 hours and no ring.

I expanded my search to deeper water and just a few minutes past the 4 hour mark I received a good signal and in my sand scoop was a white gold ring! Was it his? He told me that the ring had his name and his wife’s name and the date they got married. I looked in the inside of the band and I saw writing and the name ”Jason”

I was so excited that I found the ring! In this big lake finding a small ring is like finding a needle in a haystack.

I called Jason and he was delighted! We met the next day and he got his ring back…It was great meeting you and your family Jason!

Lost… Diamond Engagement Ring & Wedding Band/White Rock

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

Today I had a search for a lady who lost both of her wedding rings at White Rock Beach. After talking with Ali on the phone I knew the chances of finding her rings were slim due to the fact that it was likely lost on the short grass where she and her family were sitting, making the rings easy to spot.
She had taken them off to put suntan lotion on her kids and put them on the towel she was sitting on, after a while it was time to go and she got up and her son picked up the towel and they left for home.

After around a half hour she realized what had happen and raced back to where they had been sitting to look for her rings…No luck, they were no where to be found. Franticly searching for her rings strangers stopped and helped her look but no one found them.

When I arrived the next day and met Ali and her sister they showed me the spot, I searched the grass and then the small bush area but no luck.

I brought a towel and a couple of rings of no value but ones I would use to do a test with and placed the rings on the towel and asked Ali to pick up the towel like her son would have done. This showed us that the rings didn’t travel far at all and ended up on the grass close to the towel. This would have been very easy for someone to spot.

I believe there are good people in this world still and the person who found the rings is looking for the owner… If you found the rings here is Ali’s contact number… 604-870-8825

I hope your rings find you Ali.

Metal Detecting for a lost gold wedding band on Crescent Beach/South Surrey

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

I received a call while I was at work, this young man told me the story about how his wife’s wedding band fell off her finger and into the ocean where they were standing. He said that they searched for 3 hours in knee deep water but had no luck in finding the ring.

The night before I was out searching for a young man’s wedding band at 12 AM and I was a little tired as I just switched to nights for work that day.

I listened to his story and I needed to check the tide chart on my Iphone to see when the next low tide was so I told him I’d call him back.

The next low tide was at 7:59 AM…I would be working to 4:30 AM that morning so I had to decide if I could make it out there…I figured I could drive out there after work and get a few hours of sleep then meet him and find his wife’s wedding band and get a few more hours sleep to wait out the morning rush hour, then go home and get a few more hours of sleep then go to work.

I called him back and we were to meet at 7AM that morning for the search. I drove out to the Crescent Beach area and slept in my car for a bit then at 7AM I met Mohumad.

Mohumad explained what happened that day and that he was sure of the area the ring was lost in, which helps a lot when your searching for something so small. He drove and I followed him to the beach, when we got there the tide was out and Mohumad showed me where he thought the ring would be.

He walked to the top of the beach where there was a big patch of seaweed and walked out towards the water and stopped and said this is the area here!

I started my search and within 20 seconds or so I found the ring! It helps so much when a person doesn’t panic and makes a mental note of the area the ring was lost in because it gives me a great chance to find the ring the next day. I had a similar search at a beach years back and it took me close to 3 hours to locate the lost ring. This was because the person didn’t make a note of the area but just pointed and said out there some where…Thanks Mohumad, it was great meeting you and I’m glad your wife has her ring back!

I love my job!
